    Brilliant. Not only the light cone but that texture trick. Side note, sick shirt.

    Deceptively simple. Always nice when someone do the hard work and makes it look easy :)
    Thank you !

    I really liked the idea of modeling everything in a scene including objects like liquids, lights & smoke.

    Excellent video Aaron, thanks. I was looking for this for the headlights of a car in an evening scene.

    Very helpful. I've found lighting models with existing gradient elements like that and didn't know what it was for.

    This is great, Aaron! I'm a lighting designer so this application is very helpful!

    try cranking down shadow settings to a night time and play with dark/light settings and you'll see light texture will start to glow.

    Best part of the video seeing how irate Aaron gets with dumb comments. Thanks for the content!

    Cool idea! Is it possible for the light cones not to have a shady, shadowy side? That's the only thing that makes the beams look a bit unnatural IMO.

    • @DarkMoonDroid
      @DarkMoonDroid 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This isn't about making it look natural. It's about getting an idea about how the lighting will work in the setting. If you turn on Shadows, it will turn _every object_ into a shade-caster. The only way to make it look natural is to use a renderer and something like lumion.

    Add a radial gradient to stage surface.

  • @markthomas207

    This is something I would like to use and create, unfortunately I can't get beyond the "Follow me" and draw the cone. I get an error message that says:The path you have chosen does not begin or end on the extrusion cross section. Another question, once I get to it is, where can I find the linear gradient you download as the fill texture?

    ice one Aaron, Can these be coloured?

    • @AaronMakingStuff
      @AaronMakingStuff 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! Though you can either impost colored gradients or change the color of the imported texture using the color window!

    Where do I find the gradient element?

  • @orbsphere-

    Would liked to have seen how an object inserted partially into the light cone would have been affected. I make the cone and assign a color of some transparency value to it. There are a couple examples in my model collection. No gradient image required.

    Hi! A great video.4.02 in the video. One important thing I think you need to mention is that the image should be imported as Texture. (Options). My default settings were set to 'image'. And I fiddled around a bit before I found out why the image was not inserted correctly into the square. 😁🤔. 5.13. When I delete the ring parts there are holes (wedges) in the cone ?? 😒

    how did he do the paintbrush on the cone... pls help elaborate to me. TIA

    • @SketchUp
      @SketchUp  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aaron says at 4:44 he uses the Paint Bucket tool, then using the modifyer key on the keyboard (option/ctrl) he sampled the gradient material...then pasted in on the cone surface.

    I am afraid of dl'ing textures/materials onto my hard drive from the wild wild web. Do you have anything on how to know what sites are reliable?

    • @DarkMoonDroid

      I just joined SketchUp Texture Club and was curious about becoming a Member, but I don't have Euros, so ... I can't?
      Anyhoo...
      Hoping someone can help me here.
      I'm looking for ... a "linear gradient"?
      Just did a search for that and got nuthin'...
      Just did a Google Search and also got nuthin'! - also tried "transparent gradient".
      All this is useless if I don't have that texture.
