  • We're doing a refresher on how to work with reference imagery in your SketchUp models. Side note: this is not a video on Photo Match, this is more about having a photo that you want to reference in your model. There are a couple of different ways to do this so follow along and learn some tips and tricks.

    Hi Aaron. Can I just say how much I value your tutorials. I am learning so much from them.

    Hi Aaron, I'm a big fan of you and nearly watched all of your tutorials and learned a lot. I love the way you teach, talk, make mistakes and joke. In this video I think you missed a tip. I had trouble importing the pictures with high resolution, then one day I figured out how to do it in another video. Preferences - OpenGL - Use maximum texture size. Maybe it is only for windows version. Anyway, thanks for all of your videos, love from Turkey!

    Awesome, I use both methods 99% of the time; importing hand sketches to model into architecture and interior spaces. Great job explaining both in under 10 minutes. Stay awesome!!!

    This has been a huge help especially for site photos to reference. Thanks very much!!

    Both of these reference image methodologies are very handy tricks of the SketchUp trade, especially the scaled image used for tracing. As a Mac user however, I also find using macOS's Mission Control virtual desktops to be very handy if you don't have a multiple monitor setup. I run SketchUp in one desktop, and can bring up reference PDFs or JPGs in (multiple) adjacent desktops. By default, Mac uses the Control-Left and Control-Right arrow key shortcuts to quickly switch desktops to the left and right. I also use multiple desktops to run both SketchUp and Layout together with the same quick Ctonrol-Arrow key swapping trick.

    Thanks for this video! I’m just trying to learn to model from schematics etc. One little thing, there is a perfectly good scale at the bottom of the chart that would be great for setting the proper scale of the project.

    I have a series of photos of a car on a checkerboard floor. The photos go all the way around the car. I don't have drawings and I want to model the car. Can I use perspective matching to model the car?

    Nice tip regarding the watermark. What I one day hope to see is how to handle imported dwg files with coordinates far from origin. No-one seems to ever mention this obvious problem in SketchUp.

    Since sketchup lost the contract with google earth I have not had much luck geolocating and establishing accurate contours. Is there a work-around that will work with google earth 3D? Tx, Rich

    • @AaronMakingStuff
      @AaronMakingStuff 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still geo locate in SketchUp Pro. Google shut down our ability to use their map data, but we use other providers.

    • @rmontena4583
      @rmontena4583 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AaronMakingStuff none of your other providers cover my rural property; resolution is no-where near as good as google earth even in cities sorry to say. I am only wanting to do a site plan for my little house (not in private practice) but this is one big mistake made in negotiations. Tx for your reply.

    • @AaronMakingStuff
      @AaronMakingStuff 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rmontena4583 Alas, no one out there has near the resolution and coverage of Google... unfortunately, they closed the doors and no longer allow third parties to use their data!

    This has an advantage over Photo Match, you can eventually delete the reference image. If you delete the Photo Match image, you lose the image tracing at same time!!
