  • April 4 2023, 11:41 am - 12-week-old eaglet Connick from the Captiva Island eagle cam nest in Florida has been losing flight feathers - this is the third one that we've seen lost from the left wing, and at least one was lost from the right wing. Not easy to see, but the feather that was shaken loose is in the red circle in the cover photo. It looks as if the eaglet was only doing the normal flapping all nestlings do when it's close to time for them to fledge, or take their first flight. We don't know why this is happening, but are posting this video to document it as it's very unusual. There are three cameras on the nest - link to this one is • Captiva Side Eagle Cam... and you can find additional information and links if you scroll down. Thanks to Window to Wildlife for providing the video (© 2023 Window To Wildlife), and there's more information on their site - www.windowtowildlife.org/capt... ~JudyB

Allergies perhaps to a certain type of fish. I forgot which one Cnick wasn't crazy about 🤔 and could possibly had affected this?

Is there a condition that eaglets can have where they lose feathers
