Yeah, that's obvious, but there is a difference between turning a profit and milking loyal customers. You can argue that the line is blurry, but locking a specific battery to a phone so you have to go to their stores is solidly in the latter.
@@aaron7520 Apparently you consider this an argument? "Especially from morons like you." Why would you say that if.. We "shouldn't be arguing" yet, you literally started the argument. Just goes to show your hypocrisy.
My brother turned into a brainwashed zombie when he began working at an iStore. Only after he left (after 'inappropriately' advising a customer about a cheap repair) did he realise he'd effectively been part of a cult.
I wouldn't be surprised, since apple tried to keep people from charging their phones when using third party cables. I'm not sure if they still do that, but when I had an iphone 6, the third party cable that I bought did not even work. My phone gave me an error message saying that my cable was not apple certified. This is why I have an android phone.
Here is a thought I has whilst watching this video: I have the iPhone 7+ due to the cost of new phones. I have ALWAYS bought the newest iphone on launch day up to this point. 3 days ago I changed the battery on my 7+ because it's easy and cheap. If I was doing to send it to apple it would cost a fortune. So...... When it comes to getting a new iPhone (if I can bring myself to spend over £1000) then my next issue is why can I not repair it myself? It's my phone? Then the next issue is, if I decide I don't want to use apple products anymore, because of the price of the products and then the fact we have to pay apple a huge amount to repair even basic things, I will lose all of my purchases for this platform and over the years I have spent hundreds and maybe even thousands on Apple apps etc, then there's the other stuff like Macbook, my ipads, my apple watch. I would lose it all. But with each and every price rise and report like this then my head is telling me to switch to android. You can buy a decent android phone for a couple of hundred pounds, and if it breaks a year or two later just get another, I can't justify spending over £1000 on a phone. I was pushing my limit by spending just under £900 on this 7+. Thanks to apple for making it easier to decide my next phone.
The problem with Apple is they have made their software so good that if you live in their ecosystem, you are pretty much set. Android can do the same no doubt, but with much more tinkering and hassles, here's a challenge for you, try backup everything app-data-user and all from an old android phone in the past few years to a new one without bootloader unlock, flashing, rooting, all that jazz to begin with. For those that just want their phone to just work out of the box, Apple is one of the few if not the only solution. Android can win anyday in this mobile war, but it needs to get its act together on the software experience, I am an Android user, I am still waiting.
Yeah you'll like Samsung's OneUI if you're coming from iPhone, the launcher is a bit unorganized by default but it is extremely customizable, I have my phone running macOS icons, if apple can do anything right it's icon design.
@SirSean anything affordable with a headphone jack, user replaceable battery, and removable extra storage. The reason I have the 6 was that I was already familiar with iPhones at my work, and it was a $40 upgrade from a Samsung Juke (and I loved my Juke). Now, the internal battery is going and I think Verizon is going to stop supporting 3G completely by years end. I'm thinking either Samsung or Motorola.
Right to repair is doing everything it can to bolster it's own business model. They do not do this free. Not everyone should be tinkering with devices. And Apple is clearly just covering themselves again non gen batteries so when/if battery explodes they cannot be sued.
@William Mills But Apple is still not locking the battery and merely stating that the battery is non genuine. This is more to cover themselves in the event that the battery fails and they try to sue Apple which seems to be common practice in the US.
@J Hemphill Pressured to upgrade by who? That is not what the article is about. They are stating Apple is locking the battery which is 100% incorrect in order to service their own agenda. Let not forget there are not too many phone OEM's that makes phones easy to repair. Just check the Note 10 for instance. But everyone loves to pick on Apple.
HDose that’s what they want you to do tho. They just launched a program where you can pay a subscription to upgrade to the newest one every year. They just want to charge a premium 👎🏼

@@digita1sk3tchr No I do something similar, I buy my phone and pay a monthly fee on Verizon. There may actually be case law against this. There was a lawsuit regarding those companies (one in particular) who were gathering used up printer cartridges and refilling them for resale. I forget the specifics but I think HP was the company and they sued this company, effectively stating that even after the cartridge is purchased, they still own the cartridge and they do now allow them to be refilled. The cartridge company lost the lawsuit so maybe affected iPhone owners could also claim that once they purchase the phone, how they wish to repair it should not be infringed upon by Apple?

I’m not saying this is a legitimate reason but one reason why the battery health monitoring is disabled is because the charge cycle and all of the other diagnostic data can be reset and the battery would appear as “new”. I replaced my 6S battery from a 3rd party repair shop and it turns out the battery they used was old but on settings it still showed “100% health”. Took it to another repair shop because it kept on dying too fast/randomly and the guy ran a charge discharge test and confirmed that it was “reset” to make it look new and was not giving enough power (or voltage? Idk but that was the reason why it kept dying randomly) Instead of disabling battery health info completely, maybe they could just show a disclaimer that it might not be accurate or something.

I did a test a current draw test on IOS 14 on my iphone 6s with 3rd party battery. When the battery is fully charged, it still constantly drawing 0.7A to 0.8A current. This constantly heats up the battery, casuing it to degrade real fast. Yeah, that's obvious, but there is a difference between turning a profit and milking loyal customers. You can argue that the line is blurry, but locking a specific battery to a phone so you have to go to their stores is solidly in the latter.

I wouldn't be surprised, since apple tried to keep people from charging their phones when using third party cables. I'm not sure if they still do that, but when I had an iphone 6, the third party cable that I bought did not even work. My phone gave me an error message saying that my cable was not apple certified.
I mean if it makes it any easier apple music is on android aswell
Your brain worked 👍 .. You are not a zombie anymore
Welp, That's it then. When my 6 finally dies, I'm moving to Android.
raydeen2k Buy a Motorolla G7! It’s a good phone!

Right To Repair is doing all it can to fight "self-regulating" from companies like Apple.

@@digita1sk3tchr No I do something similar, I buy my phone and pay a monthly fee on Verizon. Once I pay half off, I can either continue to pay the phone off or give them the phone to upgrade to a new one but then I have to start paying monthly for that. I usually pay it off so I can trade it in for store credit or sell it myself to get more money.

Idk but that was the reason why it kept dying randomly)
Instead of disabling battery health info completely, maybe they could just show a disclaimer that it might not be accurate or something.
