  • It was clutch, it was really fucking clutch and close but it’s finally done. After about 10 hours of total attempts across 3 days and probably within the hundreds of attempts I was able to get this win just barely. When I got the last hit I was in hyperdrive with the adrenaline rush. The amount of relief but also pride I felt doing this on NG+7 was unmatched. I was stunlocked after this fight cause I couldn’t believe I actually clutched it out haha. This is easily the longest I have spent on any fromsoft boss and it is easily the hardest boss they’ve ever made. I have a LOT to talk about here with this fight and how I feel about it so I’m going to try and summarize it as best as I can
    Overall I am very, very conflicted on this fight. To start with some positives I think the OST is fantastic, the best in the game, his attacks are cool and I do appreciate how in phase 2 they kept attacks from phase 1 so you don’t have to learn an entirely new moveset. I feel like it’s a fight I have the potential to enjoy more if I practiced it but I also think this fight is fundamentally flawed at its core. And the reason? Because there is a specific and “intended” way this fight has to be played. Shields and parrying aside, if you are going for just dodge rolls there is absolutely no flexibility or creative freedom to this fight at all. All you have to do is take a look at every single hitless run that’s been done on the boss to see this. The fight is played out more or less the exact same way every single time. You hug the right leg and you dodge every single attack in the exact same way, with the same positioning. There is a specific way that every attack needs to be dodged and if it’s not dodged in that way you are punished for it. Pretty much every single other boss in Elden Ring has a lot of flexibility with how the fight can be played in terms of dodges, jumps and positioning. Malenia can be fought in many different ways, heck, her waterfowl dance as unfair as it may be has about 4 different ways you can dodge it, that’s more than the entirety of this Radahn fight. This fight makes you play one way or the high way, bullshit attacks aside (which I’ll be getting too) this, imo is the real big flaw of this fight
    Next I want to talk about Radahn’s moves themselves. Let’s start with the most infamous one; the cross slash attack. This attack is objectively bad, plain and simple. In fact it’s so bad that the entire fight for those trying to no hit revolves around playing in a certain way just to avoid getting hit by it. The move is technically dodgable but it is frame perfect. This attack is made even worse in phase 2 because it combos into the pillars of light. Another move that has a similar issue is Radahn’s combo starter, a really fast sword swing. This, like the first hit of the cross slash is nearly unreactable. I could not for the life of my react to this attack in time 90% of the time, it’s just too fast. The attack practically hits you before the animation even finishes. And you can’t even preemptively roll this because he has a slower slash attack that very conveniently is just slow enough to catch you if you do. This attack is the bane of my existence and the latter half of my runs were ending mostly just because of this one attack. I honestly don’t know if I’ll ever be able to consistently read this. I’ve spent 11 hours on this fight and still can’t.
    These two attacks are the attacks I’ve had the most issues with but another is the meteor clone attack. First off, this move is extremely unintuitive to dodge, second, I’m genuinely not even sure if it’s possible to roll the AoE’s clearly in medium roll? I don’t know what I was doing wrong but I never once a single time was able to clear it fully. The vertical clone attack was always very tricky to dodge consistently too.
    While I’ve said a lot of things against this fight I still think that maybe, with some more practice I could enjoy it more. I think this is a fight that honestly really has to grow on you and you also just have to accept that it needs to be played one way and one way only. I also think light roll is a lot better for this fight but I went for medium roll here because I wanted to keep my armor. But damn even after 10 hours you can see I still am not anywhere near mastering this fight, I knew the fight well enough to beat it a single time but honestly, that was good enough for me

    Enduring 7 mins with this Boss on the first playthrough is beyond impressive. You were awesome, my friend. Hats off for this victory, would've cried if Radahn killed you at the very end. GG on finishing Shadow of the Erdtree!🎉

      @@suchar7175 Thank you so much for your kind and motivating words, it’s honestly always very much appreciated 😄even if it was clutch af I’m honestly still pretty happy with the way I played this fight and going at it for this long. I think the clutch really added to the adrenaline hype I felt after I beat it haha. I’m so glad he gave me that opening in the end, one that I knew I had enough time to punish for a win!
      I’m a little sad that it’s over just because it seems like (as of now) this is the last of ER we’ll be getting, but it was an amazing journey 10/10. I do still have to fight Bayle tho 😆that will be next

    Good analysis. I beat him on base game, and also NG+1 and NG+2. I found the increase in damage output and health made him and Gaius extremy hard to beat on NG with my favorite builds, precisely because of the merciless roll catching attacks of them both, and trouble reading the boars attacks for Gaius. I did shield poke first time, then adula moonblade second time, and then dual katana. But yeah... it's heartbreaking to say, cause I love souls games, but I did not enjoy those two bosses

      Always appreciate it when people take the time to read the long descriptions I wrote so thank you! Both bosses are very punishing and really don’t leave much room for error as they have some nasty combos that do a lot of damage. I’m conflicted on both of these bosses and I feel like Radahn especially teeters way too closely on crossing the line of “difficult but fair”. I’m fine with this being the only boss of his kind but if he is going to be the new standard of bosses going forward I’m not sure how I’m gonna feel about it

    I enjoy his fight a lot, it just frustrates me that just one or two of his attacks is nearly enough to kill me, or in some cases does kill me. I can't fight him the way I want to because I got to add the dragoncrest great shield just to survive. I resorted to the lightning in a bottle build to take care of him my first time around, but now I'm resigned to poking him to death with the antspur.

      @@BrokenFist I’m in the middle about the fight myself but I can see why people would like it. I don’t absolutely LOVE the boss but I also definitely don’t hate it either. I think what gets me is that if they tweaked just a few things this boss would be so much better. And yes that’s the main flaw for me, no player freedom in his to fight this boss, he’s extremely punishing with very specific ways to fight him if you want to win and honestly even just remotely enjoy the fight

    I'm curious, just how high could you get your resistances? Either Radahn's damage doesn't scale much in higher NG cycles or you somehow got absurd resistances going on. I was getting hit for relatively similar damage at 66% physical/40% holy damage reduction on NG+1.
    That HP bar do be thick though to survive for 7min straight.

    • @Creative_Flame9170
      @Creative_Flame9170  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@markopusic8258 I had a +20 blessings here so that definitely helped. I also had pretty heavy armor, dragoncrest greatshield and the golden braid which was also good. The opaline hardtear was in my physick though it was pretty much expired halfway through phase 2 anyways. I can’t remember exactly what my natural damage resistances were before any buffs but I believe with the armor and talismans equip it was in the low 70’s? (for physical at least) I think I was around level 365 here or so. I think with hard tear and black flame protection I could get it in the 80’s physically.
      As for the scaling I think you may be right in that his damage may not scale *too* much higher in NG cycles. I’ve seen people on lower NG’s fight him and take similar damage as you said. However I don’t know if those people had max blessings or not which would make a difference. The HP bar difference is definitely the most noticeable though lol

    well done mate, you had barely any hp left, personally i think the radahn fight is easy as long as you dont die, in my runs I had more than enough flasks but unironically i had 356 hp left when I beat him and no flasks left, as long as you dont die and dont overuse the crimsons i think its easy, but what makes it hard is not dying, you can go from max health to death in seconds if you mess up a second due to panicking and the holy beams/rays stun
