- After many requests, suggestions, and comments in regards to obtaining a Black Knight Halberd, I decided to do just that. Not only do I obtain a Black Knight Halberd and meet the minimum level requirements in ten minutes, I take it two steps further by meeting the level requirements to one-hand this weapon, and upgrade it to +5 in close to twenty five minutes. See below for a timeline of my progress.
00:01 - Character creation.
00:15 - Undead Asylum.
02:50 - Firelink Shrine.
03:25 - Passing through New Londo Ruins.
03:37 - Into the Valley of Drakes.
04:25 - Dodging Drake.
05:07 - Lighting a Bonfire.
05:20 - Black Knight encounter.
06:42 - Black Knight backstabbed off the cliff.
06:50 - Obtained Black Knight Halberd, and Grass Crest Shield.
07:26 - Back through the Valley of Drakes.
07:37 - Dodging Drake #2.
08:30 - Heading into Blighttown.
09:46 - Obtaining some soul shards.
10:38 - Consuming soul shards and levelling up.
10:58 - Minimum level requirements met for the Black Knight Halberd.
11:02 - Reversed hollowing.
11:45 - Skirmish with Mildred.
13:09 - Summoning Mildred for the Quelaag boss fight.
13:54 - Playing "follow the leader".
15:05 - Dealing the final blow to Quelaag.
15:25 - Ringing the second (first) bell.
15:56 - Through the Demon Ruins.
17:07 - Obtaining the Gold-Hemmed armour set.
18:01 - Ceaseless Discharge gets punched to death.
18:34 - Level requirements to one-hand the Black Knight Halberd met.
18:41 - Heading for the Great Hollow.
19:18 - Entering the Great Hollow.
19:39 - Locating five Crystal Lizards.
20:27 - Titanite Slab drop from a Crystal Lizard.
21:09 - Ten Twinkling Titanite.
21:14 - Returning to Blighttown.
21:25 - The journey back to Darkroot.
23:20 - Passing through the Valley of Drakes. Again.
24:05 - Drake Dodging #3.
24:46 - Talking about death triggers for Anastacia, and passing the Darkroot Basin bonfire.
26:25 - Reinforcing the Black Knight Halberd to +5.
26:43 - Attack Rating of 478.
27:05 - Damage test for the Black Knight Halberd +5.
27:36 - In-game time after completing this short challenge run.

There are people who can beat Dark Souls in less than two hours.
Then there's people like me who spent their first five hours trying to kill the Taurus Demon
Keep in mind, there's a lot of overlap between those two groups. I took about an hour to defeat Taurus Demon. Now, an hour means reaching Anor Londo.

@@wizardwor511 if you don't want to cheese him with the plunging attack then you can fight him up the tower for a wider area.

just started playing Dark Souls a few days ago and I've been totally obsessed. This was a fantastic guide!
Hey, just a little tip; if you summon a phantom but then immediately go through the boss fog, you can avoid the health boost to the boss. So you can have Mildred with you and still have the boss at the normal health amount.
This guy has a very Dark Souls-ish voice for this kind of videos, it reminds me of the voice acting in the game. And this is just awesome, it makes the game look easy.
A Great Scythe +15 can overtake a Black Knight Halberd +5 quite easily, and it doesn't take much longer to do. 14 Strength, and 40 Dexterity (minumum of SL32 for any starting class) will put the Great Scythe on an attack rating of 474, adding Charcoal Pine Resin will bring the attack rating up to 554, and Gold Pine Resin will bring the attack rating to 624, add the bleed damage to that, and you have a halberd type weapon that outclasses a Black Knight Halberd +5.

I did the op in 10. I love the weap and have masterd the run. Your freakin amazing at dark souls and your videos help alot. Keep making videos. Im subing for sure
The stupid thng about this is is that its going to be the hardest part of the game for you. So you're making yourself OP, so the rest of the game will be easy for you because if you're good enough to do this the game wont be too hard anyway

The fastest way to get to him is out the door where Havel is located. Just wait until Havel comes up the stairs close to you then jump and roll and make for the door. Havel WILL follow you outside but will turn around as soon as he reaches whatever the range limit they have for him. Just don't stand near the door. if you keep to the left you will quickly get to the place with the Black Knight. The weapon is just crazy against anything classified as a demon.

I had a lucky run in the Hollow and managed to get 3 slabs off those crystal lizards, I was so stoked. Such good RNG! Great video, I do something similar on BKH runs.

I once got the steel armor, black knight halberd and the Pig helm in the same run. Invading /invaded in undead burg was a real treat after that.

At a rough estimate, it takes me about 45 minutes to upgrade a Great Scythe to +15 from starting a new game, and twenty minutes extra isn't a great deal when you've got a very useful weapon like that for PvE, and PvP. It takes a little longer than getting the Gravelord Sword, or a Black Knight weapon sure enough, but that's fine with me.
Can't say I agree on a Black Knight Halberd being easier to use than a Great Scythe, the others, maybe. It comes down to experience with each weapon I suppose.
Great vid. I did this last exact run last night and it took me about an hour. Queelag took about 4 tries.

Yes, I have a Dragon Bone Fist, which I'll most likely use at least a little in PvE. I have a couple of other weapons which would probably be better suited for it though.
I have a Strength build in progress that focuses strongly on fist weapons for PvP, and I've also considered using an Enchanted +5 Caestus and Claw on my Intelligence based build.

After several false starts (i.e. Restartitis) in this game, I'm gonna give BKH a try. I never used this weapon in my playthroughs.

I am in complete awe right now, i feel like a total noob watching this guy do the early "Suicidal Runs." I've never really played before today because i gave up on this game very early on due to difficulty (in actuality; me sucking ass XP ). But watching Ayriak do these types of videos just blows me away. Sub'd and Liked instantly on this jaw dropping vid!

As a speedrunner, I see so many little time saves that could make this a LOT faster. Quelaag is way faster without Mildred, as the BKH can stunlock her with its downward attack. It MIGHT be faster to kill Ceaseless normally, but I would have to test that, as you're doing a lot more damage in the actual BKH route than you would be here. And, as you mentioned, the Blightdown drop would shave at least a minute off. Still a pretty fast way to become game-breaking.

as i tried 2 get the black knight helbard a few yrs ago i unfortunately kicked the black knight down the cliffs after the fatal backstab and i didn't obtained his weapon.it tooked me a few more attempts but i finally got it.
Elemental weapons split their damage into two categories, which means that each of those attack ratings has to go through each of the enemy's respective defenses. Thus, less damage dealt overall than an equivalent, normally upgraded weapon. Plus normal weapons can be enchanted/buffed, which makes a big difference. The tradeoff is that elemental weapons can be easily upgraded and have no stat requirements beyond base for maximum effectiveness.

I'd rather take a Great Scythe. It's lighter, easier to upgrade, does about the same damage as a BKH, and requires less stats to equip. But hey, that's just me.
I preffer the BK because it makes more damage with less stats, and is a lot easier to upgrade. Before the Gargoyles you can have it +5 and with full damage relatively easily.
But well, the Great Scythe is another great weapon too ^^
I'm doing a walkthrough and I quit on the pve aspect of the scythe. It's tough to aim with the r1 and it takes too long to hit.

You didn't have to run all the way back to Andre, the guy down the steps can upgrade your black knight weapons with twinkling, saving you 2-3 minutes.
Why did you go for Andre? What about the blacksmith in New Londo? It's way quicker than Andre cause u can still reinforce at him

Its more of a Guandao than a Halberd. Mistranslated or intentional for Western audiences? A Guandao is the weapon used by the legendary Warrior, and Chinese deity, Guan Yu!

Diamond Dog The correct "English" word for it would be "glaive". I'm guessing its an error caused by the fact that all bladed pole weapons (that aren't spears) are just "naginata" in Japanese so translating correctly into the myriad of different European names would require a fairly decent knowledge of medieval weaponry that the average translator probably doesn't have.

I've beaten Dark souls 1 and three God of war games. Is there a connection to my ability to beat them? Lots of quick timing and big monster/god killing.
Something you didn't mention, it's not 100% guaranteed to work, but you can get 500-1,500 souls from the 3 mobs in the tunnel between Valley of the Drakes and Blighttown by making them jump off the edge when you reach the first ladder in Blighttown.
is there a way to ensure the drop of BKH? like with 10 humanites or smthing?
Tried this out. Just didn't max out the BKH. I have it at +3 right now thanks to some nice drops for the crystal lizards. Nice video dude.

The thing is that you get to anor londo (as quick as possible) then you get the dragon tooth (before you have to farm some upgrades) and finally you upgrade it up to +15 and you use a buff which will give you amazing damage

So is there any reason this might be better than the gravelord sword? the GLS comes with better base damage and ends with better base damage... has way lower STR to wield... is it just b/c farming demon titanite isnt possible until late game?

How would you be able to give someone a Titanite Slab? I find it impossible to play with any one specific person on the same server. Was that fixed or something?
I don't use any modes other than DSfix and I play with friend pretty much all the time.

So the drop is random? What if he doesn't drop it, does he reset?
The single hardest thing in all this is timing the attacks on Quelaag. You need to avoid the AoE attack as it is an instant kill on a low level player. An overhead swing whilst Quelaag breathes lava, then retreating and then repeating works best.
Of course game knowledge helps immensely.
I would love to see you do a speed run for dark souls just to see how fast you could do it
In my tests Anastasia died when I collected the parish and blighttown fire keeper souls. The one in New Londo seemed to have no effect on it.

Just something that I noticed. I killed the black Knight 15 times in a row with the first hit (he fell off) and I didn't get the halberd.
The next time I killed him just stabbing in the back and I did get the halberd. Maybe you get more chance to get the item if you take an amount of life from him before making him fall from the edge. Or killing him without making him fall.

It's sleeping. The two items clutched between its claw and head cause it to awaken from its slumber when you loot them. Its the Astora's Straight Sword and Dragoncrest shield.
You didn't include the several hours of farming for BKH...
Alexandre Andrade The way you kill him doesn't matter. It's around 20-30% drop chance regardless.
Several hours? I've run through and gotten 3 black knight swords on 1 play through when I didn't even want them.
Con Cahill You got really lucky, then. There are lots of people (mainly speedrunners) who have experience with not getting the drop 20+ times in a row. :P Which sort of removes the point of breaking the game quickly.
with the 4 humanity the drop becomes pretty likely, it worked for me my first try
Gewath I wasn't really lucky they were just super unlucky plus every game has the monster hunter want metre no matter the drop rate the more you want something the less you will get it.

No idea the lizards in the Great Hollow have a chance of dropping a slab. Yoiks! Is that affect by item discovery?

Many years after this game and this video, and many others on TH-cam, and having myself played about 100+ hours of Dark Souls in the last few months, I'm totally unsurprised that this tactic is basically a recommendation to "run down to hell and back"

If you came from the blight town, you can lure them to follow you and climb down the leader before they get close to you, those giants will try to follow you and end up doing a suicide jump.
You can also use a bow to provoke them and lure 1 of them out to separate them from the rest and kill them 1 by 1.
The halberd didnt drop is there anything I can do to prevent this
I would recommend getting the Black Knight Greataxe instead. You can get it roughly the same time getting it, you can use a summon to kill the Black Knight. Plus you can kill one of the easiest bosses in the game while down there and get a nice helmet early on.
I went for the BKH immeadiately after starting the game for the first time and I spent 2 hours getting pushed off the ledge by the black knight's stab

I got the Black Knight Halberd early in the game. As the Knight swung at me he hit me and we both fell off together in a crazy whirlwind of pain but he dropped the Black Knight Halberd. And yes I was using it all through my first Real Playthough. Black KNight Sword is cool too.

With regards to what Ayriak says at the end of the video, Anastacia died for me after: 1) Collecting the undead parish fk soul 2) Ringing the undead parish bell 3) Setting Lautrec free, exhausting his dialogue options in his cell and at the firelink shrine (paid for no advice) 4) Collecting the blighttown fk soul
Went back to Firelink, she was dead, had not rung Queelag's bell, had not collected new Londo fk soul.. Just sayin, bro
What seems to be the case is, Sometimes lautrec automatically kills her after gargoyles no matter what or if you kill quelaag first before gargoyles she dies anyway
Did you record the voice after or during the playthrough? If you did it during man, holy sweet jesus thats skill. If you didn't, holy sweet jesus thats skill.

Just a question, does the Black Knight not drop his halberd in an unpatched version of the game? Because he doesn't seem to be dropping anything at all.
Is it possible for any other BK weaponry? I was thinking about the BK Greatsword...
Black Knight Greatsword doesn't do as much as the Halberd and is slower, plus it requires higher stats I believe, and it has better scaling.
