Then observe that final silence as he lights his cigarette in a somber melancholy. He knows he's going to die. He doesn't wan to, he's desperate not to, but he's already used up every manipulative tool in his arsenal, and this time it's not going to work. At 4:42 he says to himself "what a _mufukkin day..._ trying to force a resentful smile, but his voice is cracking because he's trying not to cry. At the end, all he's got left is a cigarette. @@Angry.General1461 I mean of course but it wouldn't really be as great of a scene if Alonzo just layed on the ground for a while yelling and moaning instead of the brief agony before getting back into dialogue. Plus, they had just been fighting on the rooftops before Alonzo ultimately crashed the car from jake jumping on the hood. Let's say it was real life. He had a lot of adrenaline going and was fearful of not returning the money on time. With a lot of adrenaline going, people can sometimes briefly endure immense amount of pain compared to without the adrenaline. Bullets don't always penetrate very deep either. Could've stopped in the muscle tissue. He winces again at the end of this scene when he leans up against the car after his rant and one last time in the car when he pulls up to the intersection before getting pinned in by the Russians. Was pretty realistic for the most part.

      In an earlier scene, it shows how members of that community were sick and tired of being bullied by Alonzo. Fed up with a corrupt cop abusing his power. Once they saw that he was powerless, they knew they could finally stand up to him.
      At the beginning of the confrontation, Bone only lays down the pistol and doesn't choose sides; stays neutral in this confrontation between 2 cops. Near the end of the confrontation when Jake snatches Alonzo's badge and it is clear that Jake is a clean cop that wants to do good and protect the community is when Bone and Terry Crews turn against Alonzo. It's hard for black people to trust cops. What if Jake had been just another dirty cop having a dispute with Alonzo?

    3:48 - When Alonzo says "you'll never see the light of day" and before even finishing that sentence transitions into "who the fuck you think you're fucking with?" is absolute masterclass acting. Think about any bad argument you've had with someone and you brain is thinking ahead of your words. Good chance that was improvised. Excellent

      Exactly bro. I thought I was the only one that looked into things like that. It's the small details that add into the realism of what they're trying to portray. When people tell me about best acting scenes, they usually bring up something that a character said that sounds like it was read straight from a script by the way they deliver it. That transition with no pause made it sound like he's really yelling at somebody outside of my house 😂

    Removing the badge was the most powerful scene. "You don't deserve this." I wonder how many men/women use the badge to their advantage? How many use the badge to take from the desperate for their personal gain and then go home to tell their children that they are role model citizens and anyone that disobeys must be dealt with bullets to the head. Training Day does an epic representation of the culture that is unchecked with the men/women of American Law Enforcement.

      so damn true most cops hide behind there badge because they can. the law and government has their back. and it scary that cops can get away with just about anything and if they do get caught they get off easy. some people become cops for the wrong reasons have you notice that cop are suppose to make you feel comfortable but ironically they make you feel uncomfortable. and I wonder if Alonzo did in fact corrupt Jake because he gives Alonzo street justice. and in the alternate ending he walks in his home with the money.

    • @Suave2459
      @Suave2459 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Most cops don't talk advantage of the law from what you just said, all of the bad ones that you hear about is what makes the good ones look bad. So no not every cop is corrupt. I come from a cop family and I know many other cops to the point where I don't know their names but I get mad when people say all cops are bad or most cops are bad but you are wrong, every job in the world has corrupt people in them. The fbi has corrupt people, politics has corrupt people, the police have corrupt people, but so does an Applebee's so does a Walmart so does a hospital, but of course everyone focuses on just cops which I can understand because they are meant to keep people safe which they do, but very few cops take advantage of the law.

    This is why Denzel is GOAT IMHO. His being black...let's be honest, he can't play the roles that DDL or DiCaprio or Hanks plays. He's been nominated six times, won two Oscars and could've won two more easily (Malcolm X, The Hurricane). Imagine if he was white and could've been Lincoln. Or Harvey Milk. Or Truman Capote. Or The Pianist. It goes on and on. People try to say he plays the same guy...that's bullshit. Because he's the strongest black lead since Poitier, people project what they FEEL on to him. Alonzo Harris isn't EZ Rawlins isn't Trip from Glory isn't Steven Biko isn't Creasy isn't Mel Tolson. No one has done more with their work than Denzel has. I truly believe that. Training Day in anyone else's hands would've been some BET movie right now.

    • @djstandingelk7386
      @djstandingelk7386 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love denzel as much as anybody, I love DiCaprio as well. I think denzel is much better than dicaprio. If scorsese ever needed a black dude for a character, denzel would grab an Oscar & Scorsese would get best picture & director. But it just isn't that way. Denzel doesn't do too many great characters. His range is pretty lame. He's the same guy in every movie. Hate to say it but it's the truth. He's that bad ass, sarcastic, confident & funny dude in every movie.

      Yeah I watched all of Denzel's good movies. Even a few of his bad ones. He put up a top 10 performance ever in Malcolm X & the rest he kinda just shows up and does the same thing. Same voice & mannerisms (great actors switch it up). Don't call me stupid because I disagree. I probably know more about the history of film than you two combined. American Gangster could've been an all time great movie if Denzel played Frank Lucas but no.... He played Denzel Washington. Just because the character is different doesn't mean Denzel plays him different. Not to single him out tho, many actors can only do one style. Wahlberg, Damon, Pitt, even the great, great, GREAT Jack Nicholson is almost always Jack Nicholson.

    Denzel Washington is such a good actor that when Jake tells him "That's my evidence, you wanna go to jail or so you wanna go home?" You can see how he actually tears up from emotion as he knows that he taught Jake his own doom. Love this movie lol

    Such an iconic scene, and legend of a film. An extremely underrated film that covers such an iconic storyline, with a legendary cast like Denzel Washington, characters, and track too it. Watched it on my birthday today on the 19th of April, and was extremely worth it. I don't want to spoil too much, but its worth every penny, and very intense, action packed, and interesting for those who are interested in watching.

    That scene right there is what earned Denzel awards. He felt that and if I was a producer, I would have paid him millions to act like that. Denzel, that is my favorite scene from ANY movie. You are the BEST. Don't forget that no matter how tough life gets.

    My favorite part of this whole movie was when Jake entered the Jungle all bloodied up with a single pistol and wasn't afraid of anyone.

    • @JDela10
      @JDela10 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      blockmasterscott -- Oh I wouldn't say he wasn't afraid. In certain he would have been because he doesn't know that they despise alonso. He is courageous. Courage is feeling fear but doing what you need to do anyway.
      I love the part where they stop him and he said "I'm here for Alonso" and without speaking a word they just back off like "OK, go get him!"

    This scene is badass in a way, but it's also sad. Especially at the end around 4:38 when he looks up at his girl and son knowing it's most likely the last time he will see them. Truly this movie was so amazing they had to put " What a Day!" in the script. What's badass about this is that Alonzo is he's ranting his ass off at someone holding him at gun point and a crowd with 97% being gang members.Also I realize that there is a good chance that Alonzo's team kills Jake, afterwards.

      Taylor Giavasis If they weren't, how come they didn't kill Jake even when the had the chance? All that money that belonged to Alonzo, they didn't go for it.

      They didn't have the chance because the rollers were on their way. They didn't have time to plan how to take Jake out and create yet another story to explain how it happened. The house scene showed me that they were loyal to Alonzo. If they were really sick of him like you stated, then they could had easily overrun him and take his cut.
