I used to really like this top ten since I agreed with about everything he said here, but now it’s extremely outdated. Not only does NB sound really obnoxious, he ranked them based on how unfun they are instead of actual difficulty. NONE of the purple coin challenges that aren’t timed are hard, they just take a while!
I'll never forget the feeling when I realized that since I had to repeat the whole game with Luigi in order to complete it, I had to do Luigi's purple coins again...
That one isn't too difficult after a solid bit of practice. Even "easier" with Luigi due to his better jumping abilities. Still no fun tho ^^
The Luigi purple coins are nothing compared to the Luigi cosmic comets.
I just finished the whole game as Mario, and then realized I have to complete the game again as Luigi to unlock the bonus level. I considered not doing it, because I was not sure if it was worth it.

Luigi’s Purple Coins is stupid easy, why do people keep saying it’s hard? Just keep moving, long jump and spin when necessary, and leave a path back to the start.
There's a good reason why I haven't beaten a load of levels on Galaxy.

Freddy Williams seriously I beat that when I was 7 Super Mario Galaxy was the first game I 100%
The secret is to maximize the effect of long jumps. Not only does it increase your speed but you can make jumps that you wouldn't be able to with a normal jump. This makes parkour sections a bit easier, as you can skip some jumps.
I've beaten it. And trust me, It was years until I did. But I did have help.
It's funny coming back to this again and seeing Nathaniel's old personality in his old videos. Nathaniel has truly grown as a person over the years, and he really seems like a completely different person in these old videos.

Honestly, once you learn the cheap way of beating him (run around him in a radius barely larger than his body) you literally can't fail, he can't hit you with anything if you do that.

After getting all 120 stars and watching this video. It made me realize how easy this game is compared to others in the series. Luigi's purple coins is the only level I game overed on and when ai came back for it later on after I had gotten better with movement/long jumps/etc it took me only 3 tries. The boneyard purple coins is way easier by comparison since you only have to do 1 thing (tap the blue stars). Once you realize you need to route your path to ending in the middle it is super free.
That moment when you realize that you were supposed to throw the bombs on the golf coin spots after beating the game several times by "winging it"

I personally found #10 and #8 very relaxing just walking around looking for purple coins
That’s only on the first attempt when you’re discovering everything, if you die even once in those easier coin levels, it becomes a slog.

As a child. I hated the trash compactor stars. But then I learned that the coin buttons are where your supposed to throw the bombs so now I can beat them in my sleep

Cool tip: On the dreadnought purple coin level, if you're on a stationary platform and miss your ride (ex. the thwomp area), just stay there because another moving platform will come in around 10 seconds

Ghost Ship Daredevil Run took me around 15 tries,

That one is easy I beat it first/second try
Actually for #6, if you go on the non-moving platforms and wait long enough another platform will come for you if you wait long enough. Like for the thwomp section, you can actually take your time and it won't be long before another moving platform comes.
Proof: I happened to stumble upon this as I replayed that star with Luigi.
For Number 4, I once entered the same camera problem you did, I just long jumped to a platform on the left, messed around with FPV and got the camera back

First, I did the Meteor star in about 3 minutes first try.
Second, "spread wider than Sasha Grey" young Nathaniel was way riskier!
Only ones that I would swap out would be the Beach Bowl purple coins and Deep Dark purple coins and replace them with Bubble Blast Galaxy and Rolling Gizmo Galaxy. And Nathaniel actually pointed out in his rank of the galaxies across both games that Bubble Blast is infuriating if you mess up in the star chip section (and personally for me, the Bullet Bill section at the end is ridiculous and causes quite the panic). And Rolling Gizmo...if you're not used to motion controls, best of luck to you.

Crazy to watch this again after so long. You’ve changed a lot (mostly for the better I suppose haha). I always remembered that you chose that one for number one. Somehow, I beat it on my first try ever (with one or two seconds on the clock of course). Currently playing through galaxy again after getting 100%, so I’ll have to see if I can get lucky on the boneyard purple coins again.
I bloody hate purple coin levels. I have to say Super Mario Galaxy stars can be REALLY hard. Your list really nails the top 10.

I bought this game the very day my first daughter was born in 2007. Crazy me actually took my small T.V that I had to the hospital to play this game. Im happy to say that after on and off play all these years, I finally got my 120th star today!! The last star was Dreadnoghts Garbage Dump. Not the hardest star for me, but it was up there because of the time you had. Wow!! I will always have that memory of buying this amazing game tied with the birth of my beautiful daughter.

When I once played the Bonepen Purple Coins, I had only one second left and got the star, but it glitched, so I had to do it again after many tries.
And since I was a small 9 or 10 year old kid, I raged so much.
Coming back to the first video I found of Nathaniel's, and it's so nostalgic when in middle school I was procrastinating one night (haha). I still can't get over the glitch part. That always kills me!
In my opinion, the hardest one, altought you don't die, is "Dreadnought's Garbage Dump" from the garden.

+Jess M I personally don't find daredevil Bouldergeist to be that hard. That being said I did have to try 4 times to beat it, but I didn't find it nearly as hard as everyone claims. That's just my opinion though :)

Nathaniel Bandy I agree with almost all the stars you have in this list, just in a different order. Although I would take out the beach bowl one and out the purple coins of gusty garden, because I cannot beat that one, while I did beat beach bowl
Luigi purple coins was designed purposely to have enough time to gather all of the coins, and still have enough sinkable platforms leff to grab the star. You can even clear the stage by following the Luigi outline, also designed that way on purpose as well.

I watched this video before I played smg, so when I got to the purple coins in the bonepen for the first time, I was worried. I beat it first time with 5 seconds. I thought I must have just lucked out, so I did it again. I beat it with 15 seconds left xD

The dreadnought purple coin star is by far the most difficult for me.
Ironically I preferred way more having a time limit but have all purple coins in a small section of the level rather than having them scattered across ALL the stage with no time limit. My #1 has to be the Freezeflame Galaxy purple coins because on top of that it's the one where I died the most times. My favorite in the game is the pixel Luigi one lol which is infamous among the community, I never had any issue with it there are 150 coins so just long jump everywhere and think about leaving a few platform at the beginning to return to the star and that's it. At most it took 1 or 2 retries for me.

Through the Meteor Storm was kinda hard for me, after i figured out i could have just jumped to the shroom, then build up a little speed and just like that, i was able to get the star.

I was going to say the exact same thing! Well maybe I forgot the trial galaxys... BUT I WAS DEFINITELY GOING TO SAY DAREDEVIL BOULDERGUIST! That star is sooooo sooooooo soooooooooooo hard! I have played it like 50 times and I still havent beaten it! Given im only 11 but still!

Most of the non-timed Purple Coin Stars I found fairly easy and actually enjoyable. I liked Beachcombing for Purple Coins because it actually didn't take that long for me and I love the atmosphere of Beach Bowl Galaxy. Purple Coins on the Summit and The Honeyhive's Purple Coins took me longer. Dreadnaught in particular took a lot of practice but I didn't totally hate it. Except for Purple Coins in the Woods, I found the timed Purple Coin Stars to be moderately challenging (Purple Coins on the Puzzle Cube) to insane (Luigi's Purple Coins - which I am working on beating right now). I was scared to try Purple Coins in the Bone Pen, but surprisingly it only took me a few tries. Your advice to find good paths to take and always collecting coins was very helpful for me.
