First off, the mac n cheese looks insane! This will be made here in my home for sure! Of course, I'll be using some local Ballast Point. Great job on the burger! The Onion Burger won me over for the same reason it did you. I probably saw the same show that you did and fell in love with the burger's history. I've aways wanted to make a brick trowel spatula like the owner of Sid's Diner uses. I just watched my the Onion Burger video I did... Yikes! Time to upgrade! Bravo Rus!
Thanks Greg! I appreciate it! Yep we must have both watched the same Travel Channel episode. It was on like a week ago, and I knew then, I had to make these. To me these basic burgers have such good flavor and texture. I ate two of them lol! Yeah, that guy Sid took a brick trowel and cut it down, and put a new edge on it. Perfect for doing these burgers. I'll have to go over and check your video out. I have probably seen it before, but would like to see it again.
Man that beer on it's own sounds YUMBO! But then everything together is simply AMAZING Rus! THOSE BURGERS.....WOW!!! I was salivating!! Man this looks good!
It's really good beer Larry and worked well in the Mac N Cheese as well. I love burgers like this too! I ate two of them back to back lol! Thanks for watching Larry, I appreciate it!
"too much is not TOO much, if you know what I'm saying..." That's the same way I cook Rus! Great video. I escaped California a week ago and back on the east coast in Florida. Time to get all this tasty Southern cookin' that I've missed..
Aah-ee, that's what I'm talking about. That looks fantastic. I know what I am making at the family picnic in a few weeks. Great video as usual Russ. Nobody gets my taste buds going like your videos. Much appreciated sir.
I saw that same episode on the travel channel. I live n Oklahoma and didn't know this was all in my back yard. It's always fun watching you, thanks for your cookin.
Rus I have been looking forward to this since I saw your Facebook post. That was nice Cheese sauce. I appreciate the mustard going in there and would think that would give it some nice depth. At first I was wondering if you would get good caramelization with those onions going on raw and you did. Those looked fantastic! Killer Cook Rus!
Thanks Jason and I appreciate you checking out the video brother! Oh yeah, those onions turned out really good. I guess there is a high enough sugar content in a Spanish onion to help with the caramelization. I appreciate it Jason!!
Rus, I love how your béchamel-type sauce thickened so beautifully!!! I want to dive right in your creamy rich cheese sauce head first! But I'll wait until you add in the bratwurst and shredded cheese! Your burgers with those strings of onions had my eyes popping and my tongue dangling! What juicy luscious burgers! Fabulous cooking my friend! Your knocked my socks off!
Hi John! No store bought instant mac & cheese can ever compare to building one from scratch. So much difference and you can do them so many different ways. This was a meal in it's self. Oh my these burgers are just down right tasty! I engulfed two of them before I even realized what happened lol! Thanks for the great comment my friend! I sure appreciate it!
looking good... that beer cheese and mustard sauce would also be good for dipping fresh homemade pretzels... those are my favorite type of hamburgers with onions pickles, I like mine with ketchup and mustard!
Thanks, I appreciate you watching! I make another beer cheese that is really good with a pretzel wrapped brat. I may have to do a video of that. Good eats! A basic burger with onions and mustard and a few pickles has always been my favorite. Sometimes less is better for sure!
I realize commenting on a 2-yr old video, is silly, but boy do I have to tell you what a hit this was, at dinner. It's finally starting to feel like Spring, up here, in Canada. So, this mother's day, we fired up the bbq. I was searching for a tasty side-dish, and stumbled upon your channel...and ultimately, this video. We used a spicy chorizo sausage in place of the bratwurst, but otherwise followed the recipe, save for that delicious sounding Pecan beer. We chose an Irish stout, instead. It came out so good. I'm definitely going to try your jalepeno bacon mac'n'cheese, too. Love your content. Clear and straightforward, with great editing. Cheers from your Northern Friend! PS- In German, the word for cheese is Käse. It's pronounced "Cah-zah", like Plaza. 👍🏻
Thank you Alla! I just watched your video in California! That had to really be a bad experience being broke down 2 hours from your destination, but very happy it all worked out! :)
Outstanding Mac n Cheese Rus....and that burger took it over the top! And you are right, sometimes the simpler the better. What are those German cheeses similar to taste wise?
Will definitely try both recipes. They look delicious! Only one thing I would change for the mac-n-cheese (besides the beer, i'm in the ATL GA area and there are TONS of craft beers to choose from). I would go with a large elbow macaroni, the kind with the ridges on it to grab more sauce.
Oren suggested that I watch this, and I’m glad they did. Beautiful burgers, marvelous Mac & Cheese. I wonder where that Southern Mississippi pecan beer was when I was attending college in Hattiesburg? Thanks for this Russ.
Smoky Ribs BBQ & Southern Cuisine I know very well where you are located. I grew up 1 mile east and 6 miles south of MS but on the Louisiana side of the Pearl River, 20 miles east of Poplarville. I went to college at USM. I did a burger Collaboration with a FSU fan because of today’s bowl game. Oren, a commenter suggested I watch this video.
Ah ok, I know exactly where you are from. Great fishing over that way! Just watched your Cheese Burger In Paradise video! Good eats right there! Jimmy Buffet was actually born in my home town of Pascagoula, but moved and was raised for the most part in Mobile, AL
Smoky Ribs BBQ & Southern Cuisine I know I’m a recovering Parrot Head. When MeatHead suggested we do smash burgers for Collab I knew I had to do it buffet style. I don’t live Bogalusa any more. I live on the Sabine River on the Tx border now days.
I'm with ya Rus, simple is better just about every time! Nice looking chow you made there brother! I bet those burgers and that Mac & Cheese were killer!!! Did you like that Kase cheese better than Gruyere?
Troy, some of the best tasting food are usually the one's with the least amount of ingredients. Burger was excellent as well as the Mac N Cheese, and they paired up real nicely too. The German style cheeses have a totally different flavor than Gruyere and taste really good, but I still like Gruyere better. Especially when making a beer cheese or in this case a cheese sauce or mornay. Cheers Troy, I appreciate you stopping by and watching the video brother!
wow everything looked fantastic! I love the idea of the beer mac and the onion burgers. Please tell me where you got that spray to rig for the beer bottle
It's just a 22" Weber Kettle grill, with a Mojoe Griddle that is made for the Weber. Great combo for when you need a griddle outdoors. Thanks, I appreciate you watching! :)
Great video Rus. I gotta try this mac n cheese. Been watching the waist but a little mac and cheese never hurts anyone, especially with brats n beer in it. Epic meal.
Mac & Cheese is my weakness..... I could eat this 24/7 bro,,, I never tried beer to cook it yet. I bet that smelled awesome while simmering....I need this Mac & Cheese with a Reuben Sandwich ..That's some sweet looking burgers.... Nothing like fresh grilled burgers.... I like the onion twist....I really love your cooking. Hope I can taste it someday. Maybe we can have a cooking get together in a hall and everyone make recipes.... I feel so hungry seeing this meal!!! 5Stars as usual for Rus J.!!!!!
This mac n cheese would pair perfectly with a Reuben. I can almost taste that combo now! Thanks for the great comments Sapo, I sure appreciate it and glad you like my videos. I haven't heard anything about JB doing a Spring Fling this year have you?
It's almost 1 pm here in Ukraine and I'm hating this video! I have to order most of my spices, including French's mustard, off of Ebay so it will take at least a month before I can make these.
That is one fantastic looking meal Russ. Love the Beer Mac and Cheese and will be trying that burger soon. BTW, is that you I see on the DIY Channel in a Yard Crashers commercial, looks like you're shopping at Lowe's? If not, you have a twin out there!
Rus that burger and beer and Bratwurst Mac n cheese is amazing. I think simple burgers are the best to be honest, now that Mac n cheese really would taste phenomenal. Awesome video
Thanks Angie! I totally agree about simple burgers being the best. They are just so darn tasty, and not competing in flavor with all the other stuff people pile on burgers even though, I'm guilty of that too lol!
Nice. Be a little bit sense we saw a video must be work busy? Is there a amount of meat to use on each burger or whatever looks good?. Bet that would be good with jalapeños instead of pickles maybe
Thanks. Yeah, I didn't post a video last week. I used around 5 ounces of ground beef in each burger and a big hand full of very thinly sliced Spanish onions (no certain amount). You can put what ever you like on it for sure. The pickles is what the original has, so I was trying to stay as authentic as I could or until I put cheese on the others lol ;)
Thanks, I appreciate it! I'm assuming you are referring to the griddle? That is a Mojoe Griddle that is designed to fit on top of a 22" Weber kettle grill or propane burner. I was using a burner on this cook
Hey russ i been wanting to make some eggplant parm. Got an idea wanted to see what you thought. Rosting the eggplant, making a mozz. And parmegiano-reggiano cheese sauce. Homemade maranara, layer with decent amount of sauce, eggplant, cheese sauce, eggplant, sauce and top with shredded mozz. And parmegiano-reggiano..
it would be cool if you separated the sides into there own section. I made this mac today they didnt have the same cheese so i used smoked cheddar and white fawn cheddar with dunkel beer. I gotta hand it to ya this was a hit! Best mac ive ever had 1st go!
I actually did a sides series awhile back, but I thank you for the feedback on the Mac. Sounds like a good combo of cheese and beer! Glad it worked out great for ya :D
Haha who is that guy in the reflection at 13:10? He looks real interested in what you are doing :D Mac & Cheese looks great, will definitely make this recipe. I can't get my hands on that kind of beer though, any idea what would make a suitable replacement, is it like a normal lager type beer?
He better be interested, he is the camera man lol! Thanks, I appreciate it and hope you do give it a try. Any dark brown ale will work, or you could go with a German beer. Really just about any beer of your choice would work, but it will change the flavor profile.
I know what i'm cooking tomorrow. Thanks!! Just found your channel and i'm excited, i like to cook a lot of the same things i'm just really inexperienced. I just follow my nose =D

Great Video, Rus! You have awesome TH-cam-Channel. Best greetings from Germany. Maybe you should try the Mac & Cheese with german dark beer like Köstritzer.
Why doesn't this video have way more views? This is absolutely amazing. I tried it out like you showed me and it is divine!

Aah-ee, that's what I'm talking about. That looks fantastic. I know what I am making at the family picnic in a few weeks. Great video as usual Russ. Nobody gets my taste buds going like your videos. Much appreciated sir.
Thanks! Hope you enjoy it and I sure appreciate you coming by and watching! I appreciate the comment, thank you!
this looks incredible.....WOW!!!!
Thank you!
I saw that same episode on the travel channel. I live n Oklahoma and didn't know this was all in my back yard. It's always fun watching you, thanks for your cookin.
I was intrigued by that episode! Would love to tour Route 66 one of these days and check some of those place out. Thanks for watching my videos!
You are correct, it's not a bechamel, it's a beerchamel sauce!
Every recipe i've done of yours has been a success. Ill be doing this one this weekend for sure.
Glad to hear you have been trying some of my recipes. Hope you enjoy this as well
Rus I have been looking forward to this since I saw your Facebook post. That was nice Cheese sauce. I appreciate the mustard going in there and would think that would give it some nice depth. At first I was wondering if you would get good caramelization with those onions going on raw and you did. Those looked fantastic! Killer Cook Rus!

Rus you are the man. I love every one of your videos. You are a very very good southern chef! Cheers bud!
I've been smoking for about a year now. Loving the ideas and recipes from Alberta, Canada.

That's a simple and good looking burger. the Mac and cheese looks awesome
Thanks Lyle! Good eats brother!

So true, and also the simple burgers like this can be the most satisfying. Thanks Jimmy, I appreciate you checking the video out!
looking good... that beer cheese and mustard sauce would also be good for dipping fresh homemade pretzels... those are my favorite type of hamburgers with onions pickles, I like mine with ketchup and mustard!
Thanks, I appreciate you watching! I make another beer cheese that is really good with a pretzel wrapped brat. I may have to do a video of that. Good eats! A basic burger with onions and mustard and a few pickles has always been my favorite. Sometimes less is better for sure!
Now that looks wonderful. Reminds me of the White Castle burgers. Loved them, so I know these are great too.
I love these little burgers! One of my faves for sure!

Thanks Ray, I appreciate it!
Outstanding Mac n Cheese Rus....and that burger took it over the top! And you are right, sometimes the simpler the better. What are those German cheeses similar to taste wise?
I would drive from San Diego to Missouri for no reason other than to eat at this man's table.
Thanks, and let me know how it goes. Sure you can use any kind of pasta you like.
How's it going Russ? I love your bbqing! That mac and cheese looks great not to mention the burger! Keep em coming!

What kind of grill are you using in this video? I love the circular griddle part? Awesome recipe by the way? Scrumptious ❤️💯
It's just a 22" Weber Kettle grill, with a Mojoe Griddle that is made for the Weber. Great combo for when you need a griddle outdoors. Thanks, I appreciate you watching! :)
Smoky Ribs BBQ & Southern Cuisine thankyou very much for the response and quick reply! Awesome 💯

David Camp me too 😂😂😂😂😂
Making both this weekend!
Thanks!
Your welcome and thanks for watching!
You got some lucky family members☺. What was that round griddle you used on the burgers? I like the looks of that.
The griddle is a MoJoe Griddle. www.mojoegriddle.com/
Another awesome video Rus! thank you. Cheers!
Thank you, I appreciate it! Cheers!
Löwensenf is a fairly popular brand of mustard in Germany. They're from Düsseldorf. I always liked they're semi-spicy (Mittelscharf) version.
I wish I could buy this stuff locally because I'm always running out, but I have another subscriber from Germany that is sending me some :)
Can’t believe I’m seeing this now; this is why I subscribed to the channel 👍
That is one fantastic looking meal Russ. Love the Beer Mac and Cheese and will be trying that burger soon. BTW, is that you I see on the DIY Channel in a Yard Crashers commercial, looks like you're shopping at Lowe's? If not, you have a twin out there!
Thanks Cliff! No that's not me in the commercial lol! I must have a twin :D
Rus that burger and beer and Bratwurst Mac n cheese is amazing. I think simple burgers are the best to be honest, now that Mac n cheese really would taste phenomenal. Awesome video

gonna try for sure.
As an Oklahoman, I approve!
Thanks, I appreciate you checking the video out!
Thank you for the recipe Rus, i love your channel!
Your welcome and glad your enjoying the channel! Thank you!
Great as always, Rus! You rock!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Russ, really awesome cook, what kind of grill/accessory is that?
Thanks, I appreciate it! I'm assuming you are referring to the griddle? That is a Mojoe Griddle that is designed to fit on top of a 22" Weber kettle grill or propane burner. I was using a burner on this cook
Good video
Hey russ i been wanting to make some eggplant parm. Got an idea wanted to see what you thought. Rosting the eggplant, making a mozz. And parmegiano-reggiano cheese sauce. Homemade maranara, layer with decent amount of sauce, eggplant, cheese sauce, eggplant, sauce and top with shredded mozz. And parmegiano-reggiano..
Sounds great! I'm not a big fan of egg plant, but I'm pretty sure I would scarf that down ;)
Now that's a meal Rus!
Thanks Chef John! We sure enjoyed it :)
Rus I love how you say Bratwurst I am definitely trying this! Greetings from Austria (south of Germany)
Hello Austria! Thanks so much for watching! I sure appreciate it!
What is that cooktop you have for the Burger's? Is that on you're kettle grill?
It's called a Mojoe Griddle and yes, made for a 22.5 Weber kettle
Smoky Ribs BBQ & Southern Cuisine thanks I need to get one.
The owner's name is Cam, tell him Smoky Ribs sent ya ;) www.mojoegriddle.com/
Wow.. Great cook Rus. Funny, I did a mac and cheese video as well but went a different route. :)
Thanks Chris! Just watched your video! Awesome looking sandwich!
Another good video, as usual, TFS!
Thank you and your welcome :)
Great vid as usual. Looks awesome!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
What size pan is that for the mac n cheese you put on the grill? and what size is the weber?
It's a 13"x9" pan 2.5" deep. The Weber is just a 22.5"
Talk about fill you up! Oh my goodness! This was so good!
It sure was, and yes, a real gut buster lol :D
I like the way you say Bratwurst. I think Germany is famous for it
Gotta give those burgers a try, and the mac looked great too!

Newbie here, like you working out these recipes man
Welcome to my channel! Glad you found it.
it would be cool if you separated the sides into there own section.
I'm from Oklahoma and never had onion burger but I guess I'll go this weekend yay
I would love to try the real deal one day and see how my copy cat version compares. Darn tasty burger for sure!
I know what i'm cooking tomorrow. Thanks!! Just found your channel and i'm excited, i like to cook a lot of the same things i'm just really inexperienced. I just follow my nose =D
Glad you found my channel, and thanks for watching my videos! Hopefully some of my videos will help. We were all inexperienced at some point :)
