I'm from Slovakia and the term Caucasians defines nations from the Caucasus region. The american definition of caucasian has always confused me so much as it doesn't refer to geographical location. Also, I find peoples from this region so interesting regarding their cultures and physical appearance.

The White race is called "Caucasian race" in the name of Georgians
«Caucasian variety. I have taken the name of this variety from Mount Caucasus, both because its neighborhood, and especially its southern slope, produces the most beautiful race of men, I mean the Georgian; ... The Georgians belong to the most beautiful nations in the world. Everywhere, at any place, there can be seen tall men and slender women with noble faces, attractive features and large beautiful eyes........., Georgians are considered to be among the bravest and the most honest nations in the world; like all other Caucasian nations, they are also hospitable and reliable, as reliable, as their sabers are, and as swift and flexible, as their stallions, courageous in warfare and kind and soft-hearted at their homes. These people produces the most beautiful form of the skull, from which, as from a mean and primeval type, the others diverge... Besides, it is white in color, which we may fairly assume to be the primitive color of mankind and because ... in that region, if anywhere, it seems we ought with the greatest probability to place the autochthones of mankind.»
      Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (1752-1840)
. "On the natural varieties of mankind: De generis humani varietate nativa". 1795 AD. P. 303.
Why is the term "Caucasoid" more right, than "Europoid" - because Caucasoid race is not only about skin color. it is about firstly the form of the skull. there are many Caucasoids, who are not European whites, for example North Africans (Berbers, Old Egyptians), Semites (Phoenicians, Assyrians, Arabs, Jews), Sumerians... Caucasus in this sense, is in the middle of this people, in the center, so this is more fair. If anyone wants to separate European whites from other Caucasoids, you can use a word - Aryan or just "white". Only Indo-Europeans and Ibero-Caucasians are Aryans . but despite of the fact, that Semites, North Africans and Dravids are Caucasoid, they are not Aryans (off course in their population, there are Aryans (white Caucasoids), but Only some of them as individuals and not their whole population).

Wow. So much false statements, ignorance, misunderstanding of terminology, and rudeness here!
      1) The phenotype of Arabs (a.k.a. Semites) are closely related to the phenotype of Europe, and the both are officially categorized as "Caucasian". 2) The term "Asian" involves such diverse groups of people that it serves little purpose in relation to phenotype, and is therefore mostly used in relation to geography. 3) Race is defined by so much more than just skin color. Not only that, it is in many circumstances a poor determinator for race.
I've accepted that ignorant and lesser-knowledgeable people will exist. I'm not gonna mention any names here, but it's sad to watch when they push their false beliefs on to others as fact, and then proceed to tell others to do research. Also, please don't join a serious scientific discussion if you base your arguments on religion.
But then again, religion is a statistical precursor for lower intelligence.

The reality is that the Caucasus = the land of the buffer zone nations. So unlucky to be stuck in-between the big three which are Russia, Turkey and Iran. Today, Armenia is allied with Russia and Iran against Turkey/Azerbaijan which have had there border with Armenia closed for over 20 years. This means 80% of landlocked Armenia is closed off from the world. Azerbaijan is allied with Turkey and somewhat Russia. Georgia hates Russia but tends to get along with everyone else. Some say any further conflict on the part of Azerbaijan against the small Republic of Nagorno Karabakh could throw the entire Caucasus into a major war since it could most likely drag in the big three.

Cassandra Ross You guys are so stupid. There is a big different between white NATIVE Caucasians and modern immigrant nations of Caucasus! Native people of Caucasus are Waynakhs and they are the ancestors of Germanic nations! The Germanic languages also originated from the Waynakh language and even the word "Germana" is Waynakh. During ww2, mongol russians and jew Stalin killed 60% of white natives/Waynakhs, because Stalin said that Waynakhs and Germans are "the same nation" and commended to kill all native people of Caucasus and have their territories to Turkic and Persian immigrants.
The roots of the white race are in the mountains of Waynakhs, that's why white people are called Caucasian.
At least learn the European history and from where each nation of Europe originated from. The biggest amount of Europeans arent even white and originated from the middle east and north Africa. Germanics originated to Caucasus. Slavic nations are Turkic-iranian tribes,etc...

"White" is just used to make a distinction from terms like Black, which, thankfully has been turned into cultural terms of pride in much of the world, even though these had disparaging origins. Every heritage, whether Caucasian or Indo-European or many others, offer a ton of variety and distinct cultures and ethnicities. I have friends who are Black Americans, West African Americans, Iranian American, Irish American, and so on, and they all have interesting cultures and/or heritages.

It's true about Russians. You would totally confuse them if you are a North American and you identified yourself as "Caucasian". To Russians the word "Caucasian" (кавказец in Russian) specifically refers to the people that originate in the regions along the Caucasus mountains. We should stop calling ourselves Caucasian when we simply aren't! Also in former USSR the term Caucasian relates specifically to the famous cuisine, dress, and general culture of the region. Shashlyk (shish kebab), Georgian Khachapuri (pizza) and khinkali (dumplings), plus Armenian lavash (flatbread like tortillas) are famous throughout the former USSR and originated in the Caucasus region. Mmmmmmmm Adjara Khachapuri is amazing. It's like a giant boat shaped egg-in-a-basket smothered in Caucasian cheeses and BUTTER!!!! Mmmm

Same with the term African American. Most Black Americans are admixed with their ancestors being there as early as the 1400s. There are many Ethnic groups found in the U.S. Such as Mullato, Melugeoun, Creole, Mestizo, there are a few other lesser know mixes like India/Mexican and Chinese/Mexican and Native American/ Black and Native American/ European. These ethnic groups have been around for centuries but they just get lumped in white, black, Hispanic, Asian. Many identify as more than one based off family ancestry and genealogy.
Modern boundaries have caused more conflict than resolved.

And also, they do need some term for this ethnicity and culture. Like Afro-Carribean does exist, so does Afro-American.

I believe the proper term for the larger "race" meaning is Caucasoid, which was used along with Mongoloid. This is a commonly used naming technique in biological systemics, where a "type" genus is used as the basis for the family name. For example, asters were used as the type genus for the aster family (asteraceae), but that does not mean that all species within the asteraceae are asters, some are sunflowers, daisies, or dandelions. So the use of the term Caucasian is basically a type of synecdoche.
So, just as not all Mongoloids are Mongols (some are Japanese, some are Filipino, etc.), not all Caucasoids are Caucasian (Some are Latvian, some are Irish, etc), those two ethnic groups were just considered the "type" ethnicity for their respective races.
These are old attempts at classifying human subgroups that may have made sense with the information available at the time, but since that information did not include information on human DNA sequencing, which wasn't mapped until 2003, it may not make that much sense any more.

Talking about Circassians, they (or as they call themselves, Adyghe) were divied into three ethnic groups based on their languages by the Soviet government. These are Adygeans (Republic of Adygea), Kabardian (the Kabardino-Balkar Republic), Cherkess (which is a Russian word for Circassians, in Karachay-Cherkess Republic) and also small people of Shapsugs (near Sochi in Krasnodar Krai). Cherkess and Kabardians speak Kabardino-Cherkess or basically East Circassian, and Adygeans and Shapsugs speak Adygean or West Circassian. But some might say they are dialects of the same language since even native speakers call it the same way, Adyghe.

I have always found the Vainakhs (Chechens and Ingush) to be a very interesting group of people. They are natives of the Caucasus and linguistically they belong to the Northeast Caucasian or Nakho-Dagestanian language family. They also have a very strong clan system that has helped to preserve their culture over the years as they faced invasions and warred with numerous foreign groups with the Russians being the most recent. Another reason that I am interested in the Vainakhs is because the have the highest percentage of Y-DNA haplogroup J2a among them of any group in the entire world. Pretty much all of the J2a among the Vainakhs is part of the J2a1b-M67 subclade. The Ingush have the most J2a of any group in the world at around 88% overall. Next come the Chechens at around 55% J2a overall. Other Y-DNA haplogroups such as J1, and L3 make up most of the rest of Vainakh Y-DNA. Within the Caucasus genes and language tend to correlate quite strongly with each other and this is mainly due to isolation (mountainous terrain), and genetic drift.

The reason Ingush scores high in J2a is because they were kinda one of the clans in the past stuck in the mountains with almost no contacts with outer world. It's the same if you take one of the Chechen clans in the mountains, they would show the same results.

This video makes it clear that when we in the US equate "Caucasian" with "white person" we simply create more confusion. The video does a good job overall in describing who the Caucasians really are. Now if we could only figure out who the "white people" are....but that's much more complicated, and in fact impossible. If we ever did find a consistent way to define a "white person", we should then change the term, since none of us actually has skin which is white (apart for a few albinos perhaps).
Thanks for the video. I appreciate your videos even when they contain assumptions that I consider erroneous, or overlook facts that I consider relevant. The etymology and the current meaning of a word are often somewhat divergent.
The word "naughty" derives from "naught" and originally meant poor, as in, having nothing in the way of property. Tinfoil hasn't been made out of tin since the discovery of affordable methods for refining aluminum. The word "anime" generally refers to a specific, highly stylized genre of cartoon that originated in Japan, but if you follow the word back to its roots, it literally means "bring to life" (which suggests far more photorealism than anime actually employs). The word "nice" comes from a French word meaning foolish. "Clue" used to mean yarn. "Caucasian" used to mean of or pertaining to the Caucasus -- but that meaning fell out of usage in the nineteenth century.

Speaking of "actual Caucasians" (from the Caucasus), unfortunately the first thing that springs to mind is racism. In Russia there's so much bloody racism, especially against Caucasians from the Caucasus, and against people from Central Asia. It's just everywhere. Of course, the actual people are just fine as any other people. I've had many acquaintances from the Caucasus, but never been to the region itself, yet. Thanks for the video)) I'm glad you've brought this thing up, about _real_ Caucasians.

The Anatolian branch of the Indo-European Language Family is not "intermediate between Iranian and European language subfamilies". There is fairly wide agreement that the Anatolian branch was the first one to split off from the others, i.e.:
    Proto-Indo-European
    ____|_______
    | |
    Anatolian "Nuclear-Indo-European"
The Iranian Language Branch, on the other hand, is part of the Indo-Iranian Branch.
Armenian and Anatolian are geographically close branches, and they both have animate-inanimate (living-nonliving) gender systems rather than the more common masculine-feminine-neuter gender system of other Early Indo-European languages, but that doesn't necessarily imply a close relation. The current most popular theory of grammatical gender development in PIE says that the animate-inanimate gender system is the original PIE gender system and that the feminine gender was added later to the other, presumably still in contact, branches, via the addition of a suffix. (The remaining animate nouns became the masculine gender.) Thus, this similarity doesn't necessarily speak to a common origin for Anatolian and Armenian, simply to the idea that they both likely don't share a common ancestor with the others.
(The 2 (maybe 3) languages of the Tocharian branch, which are often theorized to have been the second break away after Anatolian, were not recorded until the 5th century AD, at which point I believe they completely lacked grammatical gender, at least of the normal Indo-European variety.)
Granted, languages do influence each other, and early Indo-European languages almost certainly spent a long time as a dialect continuum, allowing language changes to spread thoughout like waves, before completely separating from each other, but I really have no idea where you're getting these statements about the relative relatedness of different Indo-European Branches, and, given that some of them are clearly wrong, or at least very unusual claims, I don't trust them very much.
There is also something called the Centum-Satem distinctionb which divides branches of Proto-Indo-European into 2 groups, but these groupings do not necessarily have common ancestors. PIE had a series of K and G like sounds in the same place as we pronounce the Y in "yes". These sounds moved back to became more K and G like in "Centum" languages and were "lenited" to more hissing-like sounds in the Satem languages. These are both extremely likely changes, so it's not really that surprizing that all branches fall into one of these two categories. The Balto-Slavic and Indo-Iranian languages are Satem. Armenian and Albanian both may be Satem or Satem-like. (Both branches have only one language, or only very closely related languages, so it's difficult to reconstruct their histories.) All the other branches are Centum.

They are from the country Georgia - and they use the word in reference to their Mountain Region, also the Iberian - they're believed to be the Predecessors of the Basque (Iberian Peninsula), through theor only similarities in tradition, some words (Basque have the most Ancient pre-European, non-Latin Language). The Basque are the Predecessor lineage of the Irish.
This the Georgian, Basque, and Irish - are the same ancient blood, now proven through DNA. These groups are also the Predominant group 80%, of Rh(-).
There is also a lineage connection to the original Persians (Iranian today).
That's the highlights on my people. Proud to be a hereditary member and prouder to share the exact soul energy -
with Y O U and all living humans - and animals I suspect.
    I'm a Basque-Heorgian-Persian-Irish Caucasian and a white girl.
No reflection on my black brothers and sisters, one need only look at me and - it's no secret - I'm Caucasian ☘🇮🇪🇺🇸
And the origin of Caucasians - due to region, rather than simply sk8n color.

Very nice video, however you fell into the trap of some groups who call Iran’s Azarbaijan province as South Azerbaijan.. actually the nation of Azerbaijan didn’t even exist until WW2, and that region which was annexed by Russians from the Turkish-Iranian Ghajar dynasty, was called “Arran”. During the Stalinist period the soviets named the region after the AzArbaijan (notice the capitalized A), the Iranian province with an eye to annexing the region, and even going so far as calling it South AzErbaijan (noticed the capitalized E), slanting the original Iranian name to make it sound more Russian (Azer v Azar). So please don’t fall into this trap again.

Yeah nah, we're circassian for example and there are plenty of us that are blonde and plenty that are dark haired. Some pass as white, some as asian/middle eastern, even in the same community or family (my mother has dark hair and passes as asian, her sister is blond with blue/grey eyes). It is more about some facial features actually.
I am circassian, but no white person would call me white, even though i am far more 'caucasian' then europeans would ever be. Tbh the term really just erases our connection to the caucasus mountains. Bc i see people from georgia, dagestan, chechenya etc as my brothers and sisters and would like to use the term to identify with them as the collective of the people from the caucasus, but thanks to the term meaning 'white' i can't.

Yup. Surprisingly, South and North Ossetia are delineated by natural barrage of Caucasus mountain, with no possibility to pass through in the past:))) So, by natural water divide range Ossetia (currently, north Ossetia) was delineated from Saachablo/Kartli, belonging to Georgia. That area before Sovietization of Georgia was dominated by Georgians, with some peasants/labor migrated from North Caucasus, including Ossetia. After establishment of Georgian Soviet Republic, an autonomous republic South Ossetia was created by communist rulers. Still that area was dominated by Georgian. In 70s a Rocky pass, engineering structure was built connecting so-called South Ossetia with North North Ossetia that allowed for significant inflow of Ossetians from North Caucasus to Tskhinvali region and entire South Ossetian territory.

    • @friedrichengels2475
      @friedrichengels2475 ปีที่แล้ว

South Ossetia is the Republic of South Ossetia. The Georgians never lived in the mountains of South Ossetia, they never controlled those mountain ranges and passes. Historically, Tskhinvali was a most northern Georgian town populated by the Georgian Jews, and further to the north from Tskhinvali were Ossetian mountain gorges uncontrolled by Georgia. The South Ossetians are aborigines of those highlands, whether do you like it or not.

Dont Look Back Twice Of course they’re not, that’s like comparing a Korean person to a Chinese. What I’m saying is that they share the same common ancestors, as in caucasians from the Caucasian region. Basically, they’re all their own kind of Ayran.
North India for example, it’s mostly Indians yes? They were invaded by Aryans from Indo-Iran or Indo-Caucasia and basically absolved their culture, and is probably why North Indiana are so much paler. Now, Indian and British people are definently, NO WAY DIRECTLY related, but, they do still share the same common ancestors. A Brit today would be a very very very distant cousin of an North Indian.
