Looking forward to seeing the series, but surprised you’re not putting insulation in the floor as this will be hard to add later. I’d also be worried about vermin getting in under those voids.
when i am shimming up a level base for a shed on concrete, i use cheap plastic cutting board from the supermarket, just cut them up and stack them as needed, you can put a screw through a stack to hold them together. very hard, waterproof and cost effective.
Given the size of those pavers, you could've cut them into quarters and had support under every junction where the wood attached at right angles. Seems that would've sturdied up the structure a bit more. Just a thought.
The best time to build a shed is ten years ago and the second best time is right now. Glad you’re getting on with it Matt and you can always build another sneaky one behind fir storage.
A difficult time of year to get anything much done outside, so well done for just getting on with it Matt, at least this way you'll have somewhere warm and dry to work through next winter ! Right decision on the metal shed I'm sure, they can be tricky to manage temperature and condensation wise ( not great for tools ) and anyway we all like your building projects !
I'm looking forward to following this build. Just need to make sure my wife knows I'm not intending to copy as she thinks the garage is large enough for my toys 🤣
Greetings my friend, I am reall excited about watching you build the new workshop, I thought you were going to use the tent base as the new floor, oh well I was wrong, good luck mate, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia
I'll give you the best tips when building your workshop on a budget 1) look for second hand double glazed big glass windows (without the frame) on ebay, gumtree and facebook and make your own windows, they don't have to open 2) buy larch for the cladding, I bought pressure treated larch for a 20x12 ft workshop 1" 6"x8ft rough sawn for £760 it lasts forever 3) make the roof from fiberglass sheets,, I used Filon GRP sheets, it allows daylight to flood the workshop and makes doing projects a pleasure and as a bonus you get heating for free (very dry shop, no rusting) 4) look at reclaimed timber for the framing and buy a saw blade that cuts nails 5) make double doors at the full height of the shop, it allows you to get big items in and number 6) don't put a wooden floor in, build the shop off the concreate base putting slate between the uprights and the floor, you can then wheel table saw and planners ect into the garden allowing you to work on timbers longer than the shop when the weather is right 7) try and do a deal with building sites, they often use plywood as cladding around the site, when the build comes to the end they dump it, it may look bad but you will find once it dries out it's fine, just give it a quick coat of white paint, all of my internal storage and shelving and my work bench are made from this. This process has allowed me to build a shop that would have cost £5000-£6000 or more for around £1500 and I can say it's the envy of every bloke that sees it.
Hey Matt, haven't you got yourself an impact driver? I know you can get by using a drill driver but it's so much easier to use an impact driver when using screws, both to put them in and take them out
Great start matt ,Now thats what i would call dedication ,Working in the frezzing cold ,Are you not going to put any insulation under the floor ? Or next winnter its going to be very cold in there .
Brilliant Matt, looking forward to this build.... Been a subscriber since the very early days, yet TH-cam never notified me of this.. very strange or I'm subscribed to too many channels
I've been really looking forward to you starting this build - I'm planning on starting my own build in a couple of months & will be nicking a few ideas from you. Best of luck with the project & best wishes for a happy, warm & prosperous 2023.
Hi Matt, Great first build video. When I had my workshop built I also raised it off the ground. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Take care. Cheers, Huw
Matt, is it worth putting chicken wire / barrier between the concrete, slab and timbers to stop rodents getting underneath? I think Keith Brown did something similar with his shed build last year? Just a thought
you would have been better off when building the base to stagger the joints in the timbers where they were not long enough rather than making to different frames up as the two different frames can move at different rates to each other and cause the base to pull apart. You may be lucky because you have a solid base to work on rather than soil but still good practice to build one base rather two. i get what its like to not have a workshop space though as in 2019 i lost my workshop due to a neighbour burning it down and had to spend the summer of 2020 redoing the garden and building another workshop as i was lost with out it but still to this day its not finished off but at least i have some where dry work from now
Hi good to see you have started the work shop .are you going to be happy with the size? And will you be incorporating any security features. Will you be doing two videos each week?
Great Video as always - Just a question if I may? Wouldnt it have been better to cover the slab with the Damp Proof membrane to protect further or would that have invited pooling on water
@@Badgerworkshop what about the fact that weather may over time perish and cause you more work. Matt im not trying to take away from your fantastic work but suggesting that’s all
great to see you getting started I am sure the lack of a workshop has affected your overall performance and well-being. So I am sure once it's up and running it will help you personally and the channel. best

I'm really happy you started. Even a small workshop is better than no workshop!
Yes definitely
Looking forward to seeing the series, but surprised you’re not putting insulation in the floor as this will be hard to add later.

Great stuff Matt. Might be an idea to get some solid insulation board under the floor? Will make a hell of a difference.
Laminate(glue)/sandwich insulation board with the extra floor.. Probably work well and stiffen up the floor

I'm looking forward to following the build of your new workshop and the really fun part of kitting it out 🙂
I can’t wait for that part
I am excited to watch you build your new workshop.
Thank you David
Cool mate, finally had time to catch up,love a good shop build
Put a door on the back leading to the tent workshop. It’ll increase storage and help keep the proper workshop tidy 👍🏻
Somehow I've missed this series.. Binging it is then! Woohoo!
We are a about half way through
Great start
Thanks for braving the cold so we don't have to wait so long!
I’m pleased it has warmed up now
Great to see it get started. Absolutely right about the metal workshop, I have a metal shed and it gets VERY cold and damp with condensation in there.
I’m glad I did not go for that in the end
The best time to build a shed is ten years ago and the second best time is right now. Glad you’re getting on with it Matt and you can always build another sneaky one behind fir storage.
Yes I think I will need a extra storage space

Put a nice little wood burner in there for heat and to use up wood scraps.
I’m so excited to see you start your new workshop!
Thank you

After listening to the last podcast I've been looking forward to this series of workshop builds 👍
Thank. I was keen to start it
Great to see it started smart, chuffed for you 👍
Love watching you work Matt..... I'm sure your build will be just great, and of course the way you want it 😉x
Thank you. I am very excited for it.

I’m cold just watching this. Thanks for braving the weather for us!
Thank you. I’m pleased it is warming up
Woohoo!, cant wait to see the walls and roofing videos Matt😁
Thank you David
Good to see you're able to make a start. This is going to be an interesting build ! It'll be good to get out of the rain.
Yes can’t wait to have a dry place to work
Possible to like cantelever a meter or so off the back out of the slab? Maybe a workbench but like bay window style so it doesn't take up floorspace?
Surprised, you didn't add any, underfloor insulation.
Hey Matt, haven't you got yourself an impact driver? I know you can get by using a drill driver but it's so much easier to use an impact driver when using screws, both to put them in and take them out
This is all I could think of while watching this!

Unfortunately I have no idea how TH-cam works
Hi Matt, A really heroic start to the build in these temperatures. Good idea to double up floor thickness. Bob (Weston super Mare)
Thank you Bob

Good to see you've made a start, Matt. Beats working in a tent, but it has served it's purpose well. Tony
Yes it has been great for the last year but will be pleased to have a proper work space.
Don't envy you building outside in winter, good luck with it all. Tempted to slide your tent down & build under cover?
It would not fit under the tent
Ace to see it finally starting!
Thank you
So happy for you - let's goooooo!
Thank you
Hi Matt, Great first build video. When I had my workshop built I also raised it off the ground.

Thank you Huw

Thank you Craig

Nice one. Glad to see you finally getting back inside a good solid workshop
I can’t wait t have one again
Good start. Glad to see it going up.
Thank you
Loved seeing this, looking forward to seeing the rest come together 👌
Thank you Keith. I have been talking about it long enough
Nice one. I'm curious, did you apply for a building permit or who does it work in the UK? Cheers 🍻
Great to see you've started. Size should be fine. Can always extend at a later date if needed
Yes definitely could
Going to be a good series 👍🏻. Cheers Matt and good luck
Thank you Doug
new workshop from the 0ne 4 years ago ( looks a different location did you move matt ?
great Vid. What paint have you used?
Nooice!
Thank you
👍
Your first project in your new workshop was cutting base strips for your new workshop (OK now walls or roof but it still counts) 😄
1:50 The cut ends of the large base, were these treated ? got screwed while still "white" it seems ...
Great to see you starting the workshop, but shouldn't you be insulating the floor?
could you have built over and around the tent?
No it would not fit
In here finland than foundation is a risk construction

It has the rubber pads

best
Thank you Will
Superb job. Are you planning to run mains power to the new workshop?
No using solar
@@Badgerworkshop Even better!
Should of insulated the floor with cheap stuff off market place...
It is very small....build it bigger!
