@@tomjenner6818 Well, while there are women who do sexually assault children, as horrific as that sounds, it would have meant a different set of circumstances to end up with similar side effects after the fact, and it wouldn't have resulted in the victim contracting genital herpes, since that specifically requires genital-to-genital contact. That the girl contracted genital herpes and had vaginal trauma from penetrative sexual contact is what logically led them to suspect the men. Like Ahmad said -- it could have only been a man.

@@cherryrose5514 I can't speak for any woman who has been in her situation at a prepubescent age, as that's not my experience, but if you're a 12-14 year old girl who's not even at a point in your development to be even "talking about boys" (as the mother put it), you may or may not have started menstruating yet (or at least you're still very new to the realm of abdominal cramps and pain), and you're still very distracted by the new pain and pressure of braces in your mouth, are you going to recognise that you have vaginal soreness, caused by penetrative trauma? Are you going to know that that's what you're feeling? Are you going to be scared, but also worried that you did something wrong (though you can't remember what it was) that you might get in trouble for? Are you going to want to mention it to your parents? Or are you going to assume that this is what the teachers were talking about in health class when they were talking about periods? As far as this narrative goes, you have to take into account that there's an inner world from the perspective of the victim that isn't going to be mentioned. There are going to be things that aren't explicitly stated because it doesn't make sense for the character to mention them, even if they're "important" to the plot -- because what young girl is going to feel she can talk to her parents about "feeling kinda sore down there" right after a dentist appointment?

"I just got braces put on last week" is such a good line because while it may signal her confusion and hint at what happened, it could also be read as her subconscious speaking to make her trauma more apparent or as a call for help.

@@Framokamc I've just said I had braces. Twice. I've been there. Yeah, it hurts when you try to eat for first couple of days after wire change. Yeah, your gums can be hurt, because braces might are a bit sharp. But no, sole procedure at the dentist does not hurt, so there is no anesthesia needed. But later you may want to take painkillers for couple of days. Anesthesia doesn't last that long.

Honestly I doubt. Since they have report from the hospital of the girl's condition and determine the incubation period and retrace their steps, once they test the doctor and he is positive I think they have all the evidence they'll need for conviction. Also in this situation the girl doesnt even know or remember that happening cause he used drugs to knock her out. So once they test him for the same thing and it matches then it's a sure case without question.

As someone who has been molested, if I was in this scenario where it was done without my knowledge, and if I had contracted an incurable STD like genital herpes from my abuser, I would want to know.
And, if this were real, sooner or later she’s going to know she has herpes. When her mom reveals she knew the whole time, she will hate her for it and for not bringing her abuser to justice.

I know this is a TV show so its not completely correct, but like when I got my braces they didn't give any sedatives, all the do is glue the brackets to your teeth and put in the wire. Idk why they would have sedated the girl. It's literally like a 30 minute process.

There are a multitude of reasons why they use a sedative at the dentist. This could include if the patient suffers from mild-to-moderate anxiety, has a history of poor behaviour in the dental setting, if the appointment is going to be lengthy or invasive (ie. extraction), etc. Ultimately, it all depends on a person’s history and circumstances.
I mean the dentist's enough of a dick to molest her while she's out, who's to say he didn't lie to her/her parents and tell them it was necessary?

And he/she has to get consent sign from your parents. Normally they just give laughing gas, and thats only if the patient is anxious. Laughing gas makes people relax and feel very calm, and lots of people fall asleep while on it. It's the perfect cover story for the dentist. Give her laughing gas, and then give her the drug. Patient is knocked out. When she wakes up, tell her that she dozed off from the laughing gas. Patient doesn't know any better, parents and other dentists don't suspect anything. He thought it all though, sick bastard

I like how Chicago Med is more realistic with things, not with the medical information but they know to take the people to a private room to tell the family what’s happening.
It's not realistic though. No way would the doctors be able to tell the parents about the detective's work in the investigation. Also when Ally's mother came in Dr Manning would have asked her the questions that her stepdad couldn't answer
The parents have no right keeping that from her. She has every right to know what happened to her body. Do you really think she will thank you for delaying that information? That she'll say "oh yes thanks for not telling me"???

The parents are most likely going to tell her after the school dance. When she is mentally prepared. Also, since the police is involved, and the case will most likely continue. Then they would have to get her testimony on what happened, and what she remembers.

Ok for everyone saying “imagine getting knocked out for braces” if you listen properly they’ll say the orthodontist has access to the sedative that’s why he became a suspect and then they said instead of using nitrous a gas used as standard by most dentists as pain relief and to keep them calm he used the sedative without authorisation.

Never say never .... drugs can easily be put into a "painkiller shot" ..... and while some people can handle medications there are others that cannot ... a small shot of morphine can have the same affect on a person as sedation, memory loss and passing out!

Not really. When I first watched this I instantly thought dentist. Besides the subconcious psychology of her mentioning she's getting work on braces, and her eye movement, seems a bit more than a casual drug and touch from papa bear.
But I understand everyone immediatley thought otherwise, though with the episode heavily implying it could be the step-dad themselves straight away, it's also a big hint that it isn't. -If you didn't think the foreshadowing of the girl's first instinct to say braces was anything important ofc.

For anyone who is gonna say something about the mum saying "Don't, you'll choke her!" the mum was obviously in shock and worried about her daughter.

We do intravenous sedation in the dentists I nurse at for nervous patients, they’re fully aware and chatty but give it two hours and they won’t remembered anything that happened or meeting anyone🙈
She said "I just got my braces" out of nowhere and I knew right in that moment THE DENTIST
Thankfully when I was at the dentist and needed to remove wisdom teeth my mom was in the room the whole time. One person as in a guardian is allowed if they stay quiet. I was also awake for the whole procedure.

actually grateful that I live in a small town. In a dentist room there’s always this random nurse on a computer and at my orthodontist there’s 3 beds so 3 different people are getting work done.
This is so sad and terrible my dad is a dentist and he watched this video and it brought him to tears 😢😢
