I liked Escanor even before he became more than a wanted poster. Nothing about him changed that once he was introduced. He only earned more of my adoration every moment he was on screen. He was the greatest character of the entire series and nothing will ever change my mind of that. He had the greatest possible ending someone like him could have, and the journey we got to share with him was one of my favorites of any anime I have ever seen.
Escanors death is one of the few anime deaths that can make me tear up. Because it wrapped up is story so perfectly its impossible to make it any better.

Not really. Against Zeldris Rhitta chipped, it was breaking because it couldn't handle the force of the attacks Escanor was throwing. It would have shattered more likely than not during the fight with the Demon King.
funnily enough, vy the end of the series, Escanor was the only one to not only not get any stronger, but also die. sure he has alternate forms, but that doesnt change that his power level never actually grew from training.
Everyone had a cap on their power levels, Escanor's had none. It would raise and continue to rise countlessly aslong as the Sun was up, only time his power capped was at night time but we've seen that the excessive heat he intakes at noon is also leftover incase he ever needs to rely on it for a battle during nighttime.
There is always the complaint that the animation for Sins dropped off, but they always had the money for Escanor. His death sequence is absolutely beautiful, I will always believe that they sunk most of their budget into the fire animation, to give both him and the series a way to go out in a pyre of Pride. I understand people wanting the final fight to be animated better, but I think his death being one that looks so brilliant after seeing what can be described as sub par animation, makes the sequence more powerful, in the end the fight wasn't the important part, it was a standard affair of defeating the greatest evil known, but a death of a beloved character, it demands a respect and majesty that evil does not require. Pride is like a Hearth, it is a fire cultivated in our heart, it brings us together, keeps us warm, what is not the greatest gift a life spent in the pursuit of living the way you wish, and what is even better than to have your life be the reason others are better, with less turmoil, the hearth brings happiness, Escanor was the Sins' Hearth, and his embers still are kept warm by their memories.
To bad no one had the power to stop the sun on high noon for an hour. Add a few multipliers to Escanor power and he'll be taking on the Goddess & The Demon King in a 2 v 1. Now imagine if two Escanors fuse together to double the power. Say at the end of this all, he decided to look at them and both deities fear him and are now doing as Escanor demands.
