I thought parents wanted provision in main stream schools rather than separate schools? I know the SENCO system has changed since my daughter entered in 1994. I know how hard it is. Does he not get LSA support? If not that’s disgraceful. I’m sorry x
i graduated from a special school last year and loking back I am glad i got into a special school beacuse I was expelled twice from my primary school but they didnt know how to handle SEN students but when i got in to a special school they helped me gain clarity with my emotions however the school got more and more crowded due t the lack of SEN schools in the UK
They’re ALL lost in the system!! Government make school so boring and dull that most can’t wait to leave for their factory or shop job! Only private schools teach, and the state schools are designed to feed the shops,factories, cleaners, taxis bus drivers bin men etc! Shame more people can’t see it, we merely exist to work.
My grand son was saved by maple field he started at. 4 -16and went on for 7yeas as a special needs teacher assistant he stills s struggles, but he’s doing so good. We are so proud of him.
I’m 20 now and got diagnosed with autism/ Asperger’s when I was 18 and I really struggled when I was in school/ collage. No one understood how hard it was for me to learn or do exams and it resulted in me doing terrible in everything I did but the things I loved like art and I look back now and think iv missed out on a lot all because no one , not even my parents gave me help I really needed.
this is direct results of tory austerity , closing these type of schools and creating special units in mainstream schools doesn't seem to work , plus its difficult teaching experience i managed 6 years in this job and left teaching all together afterwards

All to promote their "equality of outcome" and "equal and equitable representation" so group X and group Y are equally represented within the same schools.
I have some SENs and possibly autism. Mainstream just isn't an option for me. I am on my 4th secondary school. All I want is to be able to learn and have a bright future. I desperately need a school like this, but there just aren't enough of them, and none in my area.
I just burst into tears at the end. The system really has failed us. I don't think I'll ever even be able to get a minimum wage job at this point, let alone one I want.

@@BosskV2.0i was in special needs schools from 1996 to 2007. Northern primary here in Kirkby from 1996 to summer 2002. and Altbridge in Huyton from September 2002 to June 2007. I was diagnosed with Aspergers in 2001. My best friend Kevin went to both schools with me
So glad that the specialist provision schools and language units in Edinburgh don’t have these problems just hope the rest of the country can benefit from what we have here there seems to be more one to one support here in Scotland compared to England
i personally have struggled with school provision 😔 i have to go out to west lothian everyday to the closest specialist provision and it took me about a year to get in!

i personally don’t find being touched/soothed as long as it’s by someone i know and trust. my key worker at school was great at giving my hugs and stopping me from hurting myself during meltdowns.

I went to a special boarding school in the early 1980s . I cannot credit that place enough. It made me . Put the past in a box and build a new brighter future . Sadly the school closed in 1993 .
I went to new rush hall and its the best school by far. I moved away and went to the london boxing academy after but wish I could've stayed at nrhs because they genuinely helped. Big up mr blake, made english lessons fun.
the closures happened under the ideal of equality thinking that their is no distinct difference to educational matters when it comes to education under the process of mainstreaming like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

I work in agency as a teaching assistant in SEN schools, or sometimes mainstream schools that have a SEN unit. These teachers are so incredibly strained and are underpaid for the amount of work that they do on a daily basis. I look up to them massively. It’s a rewarding job, that’s for sure but it also involves so much mental strength to be able to get through the day.
I'm a year 10 student at a SEMH school within the Parallel Learning Trust, we have recently been growing so much and opened our 2nd site with the same Head teacher! There's 7 different academy's in the trust. (8 with our second one)
No government EVER cares about those born with ruined lives, through no fault of their own, but there's always all manner of sympathy for those stupid addicts who CHOOSE to screw up their OWN lives through their own weakness, well they won't get any such sympathy from me!

I was like this is primary never knew why i was the only one acting like that, got kicked out and ended up going to a special needs school due to the fact i was being refused to mainstream school and found out i have asd and adhd when i was 15. I ended up in the care system because my episodes got so bad that my mum didnt know how to help me anymore. Failed by the camhs team when i was younger, i feel things wouldnt have got so bad if they didnt forget about my case for years until it was too late. I'd hate for this to keep happening to young people like that, its not fair

I don’t have regular meltdowns but I agree leave us alone sometimes we just need a few minutes on our own. Luckily most my teachers understand.

Nessesary is working with nhs a psychologist or a psychiatrist ,where many schools are struggling with referrals!
