    Nice video! My sons and I dug up a 1892 Indian Head penny in our small back yard in TN this week! Then it snowed, and we can't wait to keep detecting when in melts.

      Dang! I got a silver Canadian dime from the 50s or 60s but that is the extent of the silver Canadian coins I have been able to find here in Michigan. Well I hope you get one some day too!

      @@QuinsCoins That's actually pretty awesome that you've found Canadian silver in your coin roll hunts. I always get really excited when I find American coins here (or other foreign coins here). I've found a few US silver in my hunts, but I suspect that US coins circulate more freely here in Canada than Canadian coins in the States. And if you get a hankering to see some Canadian coins, feel free to check out my channel! ;)

      Thank you! I think I have heard them called that before! I remember buying one or two in a coin shop when I was a kid. It was an incredible discovery for sure and makes me want to get back out there and find some for myself!

    That 2nd item shown about 15:30 looks like it could be part of a lighter, which normally covered the wick, but flicked upward to light. Nice Indian Head. I'm just old enough to remember getting those in change from time to time even as late as the '60s.

    • @QuinsCoins
      @QuinsCoins  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds very probable! And thanks! It sure would be interesting to go back to the 60s and do a coin roll hunt back then. I’m sure there were Indian head pennies galore!

      @@QuinsCoins In the mid-60s my Mom owned a little dinerette that sold coffee and donuts with a little grill for burgers and such, where I used to help out now and then. So, already a collector from a very early age, I got a pretty fair sense from our cash register of what coinage was circulating back then. It wasn't really until after '68 or so that the old silver coins really began to disappear from the register's till. Indian Head pennies were pretty rarely seen by then, but occasionally you'd get one...maybe once a month. On the other hand, Buffalo nickels, Mercury dimes, Standing Liberty quarters (typically well-worn and dateless) and Walking Liberty or Franklin halves were all fairly common...like several a day, I'd say. Barber or earlier type coins were very very rarely seen--maybe a really worn out dime every several months. I don't recall ever having gotten a quarter or half. Silver Certificates, especially those 1957 Series dollar notes were also common until about '68, when the U.S. Treasury announced that after a certain date they would no longer exchange them for actual silver coinage as promised on the bills. There was a lot of wheeling and dealing throughout '68 in Silver Certificates according to the silver price at the coin shops I then frequented. So much, it seemed to be their main business for awhile. It seems like after that the silver coins really started getting scarcer. There's an economic principle known as "Gresham's Law" whereby "Bad money drives out the good". Basically, if one starts minting coins with less or little intrinsic value, folks hoard the old "good" coins. It took awhile, but that's exactly what happened. Before a big Hershey bar cost a nickel or a Coca Cola a dime. Afterwards...

    I don't think that's any old bell, but a Jingle Bell! LOL.
    I like the sound of it. Maybe you can buff the patina from it and use it for a Christmas Tree decoration.

    I just started watching your show. I know nothing about coins but I have a lot of them, including 20 or so silver dollars dated prior to 1900 with almost mo wear. Also I just discovered 8 sixty-four Kennedy 90% silver halves. I'm just beginning. Watching you helps. Can I send you a few pictures of some of these for your opinion?

    I wish I could find a coin that old. My oldest find is an 1914 Denver penny that I got in change as a kid. It's roughly in AG-3 condition. At the time I didn't even know it was a key date, but in the shape it's in it isn't worth much

  • @kevinarnold4250

    I got an 1887 Indian head penny in change a few years ago. It's not in very good shape but, it's still really cool! I also have a 1907 that's in pretty good condition and a Buffalo nickel without a date, it's worn pretty good. It's fun searching through coins seeing what you can find. Metal detecting is next on my list.

    That gives me hope of finding shallow coins. My detector only reads like 4" down. I occasionally find wheaties, but had no hope of any indians. Now.......it's possible. 😃 any recommendations on a good pinpointer? And Kevin doesn't have his own channel? He gets some cool stuff.......he should really start one.

      Yes! Most of the Indian heads that we have found out in the woods have been no more than 4 inches deep. I did find one at a park that was much deeper, but that one ended up being dateless anyway. Good luck, I hope you get one soon!
