Some people dont get Ivar's character. They only see his ruthless side. All he wanted was to be loved and be accepted for who he is. Him being a cripple on a society such as theirs he needed to be feared and put a persona.
"You mean an oldman and a cripple" in that moment Ragnar truly saw all the potential that ivar had! The mind of a tactician genius. He's time alone with ivar, Ragnar could already see his sons future.
That scene stood out to me. Ragnar knew his strength of mind and compassion for an end goal. He knew he was the strongest. Imagine ivar built like bjorn...
This ivar was my favorite version of him. A teenager with some flaws (ie. Anger issues) but a teenager who loved his family, and even admitted his regret of killing Sigurd. Instead of the arrogant Tyrant/self proclaimed "god" he became. Despite him literally being abnormal with his lack of legs (oh the irony)
my favorite version is when he leaves the Russians, as Hvitserk says, he has changed, he is calmer and knows how to control his anger but is still a tactical genius and the great Ivar the boneless It's the only time he's really balanced and apparently happy.
That was the corruption Ragnar was talking about, it happened to all the characters who stupidly bend down to pick up the paper crown. They were all tyrants and did more harm to their people then good
I think the fact that they didn’t solidified ivars love for him and it made his death even more impactful, he got to see who his father was and had the rug pulled right from under his feet. It sparked a fire in him a fire i wish i had growing up without a father. A father is FAR more important than people can even begin to realize
Finally Ivar was the most loyal son of Ragnar to Ragnar. And in spite of the fact that Ragnar leave him in the wood, Ivar always loved him and in England they created the best relationship father-son
The definition of Dad didn’t want the dog but then the dog becomes the dads best friend 😂 except Ivar is his son and he almost killed him and left him out to die.
