Well I went and did it again. Bought another non runner and fixed it up. This one I will be keeping though. Promise! Purple Planet www.purple-planet.com/
It's a statement of how well those old gems are built, a good service and away. I've a few but stuck under streamlined bodies. A new motor has been purchased from Tramfabriek for a chasis with none fitted, still scratching the old head on that one, as to where it went..... I'd sooner an old loco than a new one.
They are so easy to work on. Usually just one screw to open them up. They might not be the best at a slow start but will go down to a crawl when the commutator is as clean as a whistle. I know they aren't quite accurate but who cares?
Greetings to the Attic and hello Simon👋 Well, that was an Ebay bargain 😇 and still looking good after forty years 💃 Very best wishes from the Emerald Isle ☘️
Hi. A lovely loco, it seems to pull very well with those old tyres. For me those darker brown Minitrix coaches look better, especially when they are in nice long rakes. Good video.
I agree Brian. I think the Graham Farish ones are wrong. There are 3 Minirix ones on ebay right now. I might have a last minute bid on those if they don't go too high. Cheers
@@ngaugeonashelf4417 Hi. I hope that you got those Minitrix brown and cream coaches. I think that I might have told you before that I run full length coach sets on my steam trains. I only model steam in N gauge. My layout is fifthteen feet by eight feet and it is a modular oval. The back part is where the fiddle yard is. So I run eight coach trains. This a quick list of what I have. Minitrix blood &custard and a Maroon set. Two sets of Dapol Maroon and a set of LNER Teak. Farish Pullman set x 9 plus two sets of Farish Southern Green and also a six car Farish Green set. Also a Farish six car set of their Blood & custard. I think that the Farish B&C set are also not the right colour, more a maroon than red. I have a picture in a book on Britannia's which shows one leaving Paddington and the colour of those coaches clearly matches the Minitrix one's. So I think that Minitrix have got their colours right. Sorry this reply is so long but I thought that you might like to know about my coaching stock. Good luck to you.
@@BrianSanders-tn7pi I haven't got them yet. I must look them up and see waht the price is now. I was thinking about what I might do in the attic. How long should a train be? Well I've seen old video of as many as 13 coaches which is a bit much. I could end up with a platform 7 and a half feet long. As yet I haven't decided but I might keep it to 5 coaches. A bit small but more managable. Thanks
£21???? What a bargain!!!! It's a pretty addition to your rolling stock and, for a "non-runner" it's travelling pretty well. Love the animal sounds!!!!
It was a bargain. I look every day for non runners and hopefully find one that no-one else is interested in. It didn't take 10 minutes to fix it, a bit of a clean and lube and it was away. If I ever get pigs I make the sounds for that myself.......
Ha, ha! Yes indeed! As a young spotter living near the GC main line north of Nottingham, the southbound fish train in 1960/61 would very likely produce an Immingham "Brit", from memory Boadicea, Robin Hood, Hereward the Wake, Sir John Moore, Clive of India. At the time some wag remarked that a dead herring was treated to a faster journey on the GC than a living human passenger! On a still summer evening the fishy aroma of this train could certainly hang around for a while!
@@robertmarshall6578 I'm afraid I'm too young to remember steam trains in regular use. My Grandad did take me to see the Mallard in Doncaster station when I was young. Sometime from 1970 - 1972 ish. He loved his traction engines too so saw plenty of them at shows. They same about aircraft, humans get less space going on holiday than cattle going for slaughter in a lorry!
Hi Simon, I think this one looked the best of the pick. I liked the lighter brown coaches, mainly because they seemed to be like the Hornby Dublo ones that we had. Looks a great runner after a bit of TLC!! All the best
Hello David, it certainly runs well after only 10 minutes of cleaning. I'm still not sure what colour brown they should be. I will look it up sometime and then perhapos buy some more. Cheers
Who needs Britbox when we have these wonderfully delicious visual rail stories to enjoy?
I watch a number of channels whose production is wonderful. So much better than just trains going round. I'm trying to do better. Cheers

I purchased a Minitrix Britania in about1975 14 pounds 95 pence, great loco.
They hold their value well. There was one on there a few weeks back for £160. I'll bet he didn't sell it!

I got it because it was listed as 'Hornby' which often happens. Some bargains to be had looking for Hornby instead of Minitrix. That''s my secret.

Needs to be coupled to fish vans. It was a regular performer on the fish train from Grimsby through Nottingham
My wife wouldn't put up with the smell in the house.

Just looked 'em up - I think I forgot Sir Christopher Wren!
Maybe Rudyard Kipling as well? Memory is fading!

Agreed, the lighter brown coaches by Farish are quite near the mark, as were the Hornby Dublo ones. The Minitrix ones are much too dark.
@@robertmarshall6578 Thankyou. It's nice to know which ones are correct. I shall look out for some more on ebay.
