    I did a similar comparision but mounted the same Clearstream on a J pole 15' up outside. I then used the same preamp and attached it to the Mohu ranger flat antenna ( which is thicker and larger at 24" x 13") put it on a high window inside and got the same channels. From these results I might have to upgrade to the Televes DiNova. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks for the comment, Laurence!
      Have you run a report from RabbitEars.info or TVFool.com? I'd recommend checking those first to see what you can reasonably expect at your specific location (feel free to post the resulting anonymous results link here for more input if you need it). Of course, even if you don't pick up MORE stations, the DiNova should provide more overhead and better signal modulation for added stability. I'm also curious which preamp you used in your testing?
      For what it's worth, my test location is so flat, that the results for the DiNova were almost identical to when it's mounted on a 39" J-pole on the roof of my single-story home. The 2Max does SLIGHTLY better when elevated, but not enough to really skew these results.

      @@kyrontechnology I used a pre amp from Clearstream or CM think it’s called the Juice. Right now I have the Mohu ranger set up on a high window ledge pulling 50 channels from Northeast of SF, but most of my signals are from Sacramento. Still wanted to use my J pole for a Televes in the near future since they add 5g filters and built I pre amps. This ATS 3.0 hasn’t really taken off yet.

      I got the max 2 on my chimney and without an amp it doesn't get anymore channels than a paperclip stuck in the back of the TV.

    that's pretty impressive to be that low to the ground and that far away from the towers. while I was working out my attic antenna setup, I had a Clearstream Flex flat antenna hanging from the rafters with clamps. It actually did a pretty decent job, even bringing in the VHF station. I've actually been pretty leery of that model of Televes antenna, but dang if it didn't perform well in your situation. might have to give it a try as well.

      The day I was filming yielded some of the best results for the Televes. I was pretty surprised they all did as well as they did at 5-6ft off the ground. I just picked up a Televes Dat Boss Mix LR and Bexia indoor antenna for testing as well, so keep an eye out for another video later next week.

    The worst problem with the Clearstream is it will pick up spark plug noise from passing vehicles is aimed over a nearby street.
    I have 2x Televes antenna's as well as the Clearstream. For over 60 miles & thru trees, the Televes DatBoss LR Mix is the best on the market. Have purchased & given away a few others which were inferior.
    60 miles due to earth curvature at 10 feet in height is a maximum. Want further - raise antenna height.

    Doesnt the Televes bossmix have a preamplifier built in at the antenna feed? If you add a preamp to the Clearstream 2max, you will get similar results. Apples-to-apples comparison.

    • @kyrontechnology
      @kyrontechnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tom, thanks for bringing this up: while I certainly understand your argument, I decided it was a valid comparison since they both retail for about $100 as tested. In our initial testing of the DiNova, we noted that it did perform slightly better than the Clear stream when in passive mode. Not by a large margin, but measurable. At the end of the day, the Televes is designed and constructed better, and offers greater value with the included preamp. I think it's a pretty clear winner.

      @@kyrontechnology The problem with the built in amp in some situations where when it comes to its gain it can make the reception worse.In my opinion,it is better to start off with a passive antenna and put an amplifier on it if need be later.

    • @kyrontechnology
      @kyrontechnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scrapper276 the preamp built into Televes products features intelligent gain to avoid such situations. I have yet to see a situation where it degrades the signal with this specific technology, but unlike most antennas with a built in amp, Televes can be run in passive mode and will still work without the power supply installed.

    I spent big money on the Antennas Direct 4 Max. Very poor VHF reception. I live 37 miles from the antennas of the Tampa market (line-of-sight, no hills). The big networks (other than ABC) are all on high VHF. The 4 Max does not pick them up. The single VHF element just does not do the job. If you are lucky enough to live in a market of strictly UHF frequencies (Kansas City), you can not go wrong finding an antenna. VHF is a very different matter.

  • @jamesm568

    I don't waste my time with these compact antennas as I prefer an antenna made of metal with low VHF elements, either though they're not really used these days.

    • @kyrontechnology
      @kyrontechnology  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a time and a place for everything; I would never suggest a one size fits all approach to antennas or recommend these beyond their capabilities, but they certainly have their purpose and perform well for many situations.
      I understand wanting High VHF capabilities, but why Low VHF? As you stated, it's not utilized much anymore and seems to just add cost, size, and complications to install.

    • @jamesm568
      @jamesm568 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kyrontechnology I like having the extra VHF elements to pick up a market on the backside of my antenna as I live between two markets and aim the antenna towards the market farthest away. I'm still kind of old school as the more elements the more signal that can be soaked up. Low and high VHF elements do soak up UHF frequencies.

      @kyrontechnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KevinT7274 correct, there are still some Low VHF transmitters out there, and Televes makes a variation of this antenna with suitable Low VHF elements, but I assumed that was not the case in his particular market based on the fact he stated they weren't used much anymore. Definitely not true everywhere though! Thanks for pointing that out for others who may be reading the comments.

    the flat antenna has a hair thin coax cable which is probably why it did so poor

    • @kyrontechnology
      @kyrontechnology  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is certainly a factor, though likely not the only reason it came in last. We linked to a better model from Channel Master in the description, which has the ability to attach a standard coax cable directly to the antenna for better performance. Thanks for your input!

      There's a lot to this comment, more than I can adequately address in this format. Best bet to gain some insight as to what you can reasonably expect to receive is to familiarize yourself with the tools at rabbitears.info/searchmap.php
      Have a look around their site, and please feel free to post your report back here for further discussion (there's a checkbox to make the location anonymous in a shareable link, I believe).
      In all likelihood, a Televes Ellipse or DATBOSS model would be your best bet. Elevation is your friend, so get it as high as reasonably possible. Orientation can be determined from the RabbitEars report and aligned with a compass or app, if you don't have a proper meter.
      Hopefully this gets you pointed in the right direction, but please feel free to reach out via text or email to discuss a bit further. I don't have any personal experience in Ocala, but have another installer I can refer you to if needed.
      Stay safe with Hurricane Nicole this evening!

      The new Televes 149884, and other various models, have recently been redesigned to be optimized for the repack.

    • @LiquidRadio
      @LiquidRadio ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The repack has nothing to do with the functionality of the antennas. The repack is a reorganization of TV signals to different channels to have them all fit below channel 38. It all falls under the same spectrum that the antennas are designed to work. The only affect the end user experiences is rescanning TVs and converter boxes.
