- The bestest mouth-watering plate of freshly homemade carrot cake wins the hearts of its customers and keeps them coming back. Usually sold out before 2pm, what makes the dish stand out is its uniquely soft and chunky texture, achieved by making it from scratch. It is the brainchild of Aunty Geok Choo and her hubby Mr Cheang, who set up the stall in 1999.
The dish looks deceptively simple. But a lot of hard work goes into preparing it, and within a tight space. Their stall accommodates 2 big frying pans and a full-height steamer.
To get the best of both worlds, opt for a half-white and a half-black plate. The black version, fried in small pieces, leans towards the sweet side and is loaded with wok-hei. The white version that comes in chunky pieces with slight charred edges, keeps the taste of preserved radish. Each plate is generously loaded with eggs, and packed full with aroma.
Homemade fried carrot cake is a rare sight in hawker centres nowadays. If you have yet to try the dish, join the queue! Bet you'll soon be back for more!

One of the best and like the texture and the wok hei too.
Thank you
Respectful hawkers working in such as stressful condition. Tight working space where making of carrot cake and cooking is intercrossing. Only pioneer hawkers has the will to carry on the trade. Hope the younger generation could pay the relevant respect to them. Yummy CTK too. Love the food here.

Need to have time and do it slow. The stabliser should be able to follow smoothly. On the other The solution is buying better equipment. :)
Looking delicious n perfectly prepared c u more at my 🏡
Thank you so much
This is technically not carrot cake, it's more carrot pancake, they are all smashed togther. Carrot cake needs to be in chunks of rectagular pieces. They are first fried with garlic and preserved turnips (chye poh), they are fried not smashed. Then when someone orders, the chef would portion out the perfectly fried carrot cake, then fried with eggs, and chilli, and then top with sweet sauce. IF you tried this 50 years ago, you would never consider today's FRANKENSTEIN carrot cake. No, the modern one taste good in it's own way. But in terms of eating the carrot chunky cake, and picking them up piece by piece with the flaky eggs, that is long gone. I would go to the ends of Singapore to eat the ORIGINAL CAKE.
Thanks for your comment and haring.
Good news for carrot cake lover. If you are looking for eggs, I can supply and deliver to your place at $6.3 per tray. ( 30 pieces in a tray). Minimum order of 10 trays. Only available to those in Jurong, Boon Lay, Bukit Batok, Clementi areas.
Appreciate the offer!
Rice cake?
If I am not wrong, her relative (or was it son?) has one stall in ABC hawker centre. Anybody to confirm? It will be very sad if no one takes over their trade once they retire eventually, happening all over Singapore
The elder son operating it at ABC Brickworks Hawker. Aunty used to help to set up this stall when Ghim Moh was under renovation.
@@HappyCat.CarlNeo oh yes...I do remember seeing her at ABC for a period. I have not tried the son's cooking yet cos I don't stay there. Maybe one day I ought to try
Is this also known as turnip, radish, daikon cake, luo baak goh. I've seen them fried as plain cake or cubed with egg, shrimp, sprouts, bbq pork, etc.. SEA goes too heavy with dark soy.
Nobody care about the tight condition that the couple has to endure to make and cook the CTK. The customer just want cheap food. Sad.
Cheap and good food. Yes dont take the hardworking of the pioneer and 2nd gen. hawker for granted.
Hawkers dont want your pity. They only need your support to buy and savor their food. They are professionals and can always work around small spaces to churn out volumes of food.
You grew up on 'cheap' commercial stuff too from the moment you are born. So think before you criticise.
They would rather do that and save money then own a big place that never gets filled.
White carrot cake is not nice. Black carrot cake is nice.
