Loving your vids James. Unlike most other channels you’re actually a true commercial photographer showing real world on the job shoots, which is amazing. I shoot mostly products and fitness so I can relate more to these vids than those other typical portraiture channels.
Good Stuff Mr. Quartz. Always a good day when you see skill and knowledge of the craft come together. I Find it funny when people asking what or how to do stuff with much less. It is called learning the craft people. This is a youtube channel to follow.
Awesome bts footage. Thank you. Love the creative use of the lights and environment. I just used my R5 for a “real” gig at a shoot with a rowing team yesterday. I’ve never done rowing before, but the R5 did the hard part of keeping the athletes in focus while I composed the shots. Omg the camera is a beast! The only missed shots were when the sun gave me too much glare and that’s my fault. (For outdoors I only use one main light and the sun as a backlight) Thanks again for sharing how you do you.
My R5 arrives today! Looking forward to putting it through its paces. Now I need to find a way to break into sports portraits too. Your shots are great, and I appreciate your videos.
Great video! I'm subscribed since I watched one of your videos for the first time. Yes I would like to see more videos like this. I too own the Canon R5 and I'm still trying to get used to it. Coming from a Canon 1DX in which I still use and will keep as my backup second shooter for now. Thanks for the video.

@@QuantzPhoto I agree. Your results are spectacular and very inspiring. I really appreciate you showing us your working life. I love seeing that you used an access tunnel and nice clean wall, but we don't have such a space. I would love to see you problem solve some of these issues with a quick say 2/3 light set up and horrible backgrounds. Another great video JQP and yes I subscribed a few weeks ago. Can you go over how you had the AF setup on the R5 and when shooting in high speed how do the strobes keep up?

Great vid ! Rough edits looks on point. Lighting question ; the 2 reflectors behind the umbrellas , are they providing the edge on the faces ? Could one strip box not do a similar job, or are the umbrellas providing light on the ground as well ?
Hey Justin, even with a strip I feel they add just a little extra dimension to the lighting - remember with these types of images I’m trying to recreate “arena” lighting. Thanks for watching!
Hey Rob, I’ll sometimes drop that info on the sample images. Usually it’s max shutter sync for studio strobes and in the f/5.6 range around 100iso. Recipe differs based on the shoot tho!
Hey Jay, if you watch my viewfinder comparison in the first Canon R5 video you'll see that when you are shooting bursts there is only blackout after the first image and then there are micro-second delays between the rest of the image captures. It's just a different look (and feel) from the usual mirror blackout you get with the optical viewfinder on a DSLR. No problems with Canon colors out of the R5. I think the R6 has a slight magenta hue in comparison(which you can see in my R5/R6 video). Thanks for watching!
James Quantz Jr I think I missed the first R5 I will check it out. I was considering the r6 since we do volume sports, just don’t need those big R5 files. And saving a little $$ on several bodies is a plus. Is the color shift on the R6 mean the camera is a no go for you?

I laugh about the zoom ring as it took me a while to get used to it. You’re basically saying the same thing I was. That being said, I see no reason to ever go back to Nikon. Not bashing them at all but Canon menus and now cameras are way ahead. I never realized how terrible Nikons menus were until I used canon and then tried to help someone change a setting on the Nikon.
