Could get socially stoned for this but the majority of this comment section is older people jerking each others nostalgia boners. Like WOTC has taken MTG to shit (never even touched it and I can tell) not defending them at all but dang, this is like worrisome amounts of a circlejerk. [Oh and not this comment reply section, this is like the most tame one I’ve seen so far]
I miss this kind of opening where it's simple, consistent card design. Where we are just looking for foils and extended arts. Unlike now, so many variants, doesn't feel mtg now. Those were the days.
Exactly thank collector boxes 4 this n stupid universe beyond crap when every card is foil and 4 or 5 rares a pack nothing can be special miss these old products
Yes! I finally get to see Rudy make a 12-15 minute video of him opening like 3 booster boxes in one go. I know it’s not like this in this video but usually he opens up 2 or 3 booster boxes and the video is like 13 minutes and that’s why I watch Rudy for box openings
Fans Seeing Thumbnail: "You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would destroy the Hasbro, not join them! Bring balance to our wallets, not leave it in darkness!" Rudy: "I never agreed to that!"
Finally, clickbait that doesn't leave you dissatisfied. A fun opening to watch. An actual joy. I feel like I stepped back into Magic at the worst possible juncture, dear gods. Just after Unfunity, with the build-up to the MTG Fungible Tokens. Timewalking back to when variants meant dopamine, not confusion.
Loved this.. brought me back to simpler times before the world shut down. The past 2.5 years have been really weird and tough on me mentally. Seeing Rudy do a box opening of Ultimate Masters almost makes me believe that things have a chance of returning to some kind of normalcy.
Rudy: "When a box topper was actually exciting, and it actually meant something. Before they made box toppers with common and uncommon-cards." **Opens an uncommon**
I remember watching videos of Rudy doing box openings of this set back when it dropped and he lost his mind with all the Lillies and Karns patrons were getting. 🤣 those were the best box opening videos ever.
i was half expecting you to open a few packs from a bunch of different sets across magic's history, which would be the ultimate Magic 30th opening (and much better than what they gave us for the "real 30th celebration". This was still good.
You know, something I think not enough people talk about in regards to the value of staples: yes, secret lairs and all the different varients dilute value, but you also now have so many specialty products introducing cards outside of the normal standard sets, and that has unforseen consequences. A big part of what makes a card iconic, especially in the modern era, is how powerful it is at the competitive tables and the stories that surround it. There is a reason that Tarmogoyf is no longer a $50+ card. It still held that value even after being reprinted three times; the reason it has tanked is because it is now in the fringe playable category pile of modern/legacy cards. Snapcaster mage, Liliana of the Veil, Cryptic Command were all once pillars of these formats, and the reprint equity for these masters sets was still there. Liliana was still $100 after her masters reprint, now she's 30, and she was on the decline even before DMU dropped. Snapcaster Mage hasn't even been reprinted and has tanked. Now that you have sets like modern horizons allowing wizards to push the power levels of cards so high that it pushes old cards out of playability because they don't have to be careful about balancing for standard... and of course, standard play rates have dwindled significantly as well and they wonder why. Idk, just something I thought about when seeing that Liliana art on the first pack you opened. Nice throwback, love to see this set again. What an awesome set it was.
Sad to see how much boxes have changed, this was a top tier box when it was actually difficult to get the chase cards and the value reflected that, you can tell that the 'game' of magic is what comes first here the financials are just icing on the cake not the other way around If everything is special nothing is
Man, the contrast between then and now is unnerving. I’ve been disconnected from Magic and thought I was just growing out of it, but this box really brought me back. This is the game I really enjoyed! It’s too bad what’s happened, least I still have all my old cards. Not to mention the quality of the product is much better, the quality of todays cards is insulting.
It was amazing to see a regular old school box opening. Simple, elegant and beautiful... I wish mtg will get back to this kind of products... Thank you for sharing🌮
Yeah. I get how Magic 30th is hurting the game (a "product for the fans" that is anything but) and how overprinting everything else isn't helping, but complaining about card variants is closer to "I like things how they used to be," not actually, "things used to be objectively better." It's a line of thinking that has no end. It was "better before mythics," "better when it was just boosters and starters," "better before [name your gameplay mechanic]", "before Commander-focused sets," and to really follow that pattern, "before any foils," "before white border cards," "before multicolor cards," "before boosters expanded beyond 8 cards." There are definitely signposts along Magic's history which draw a path from "how things used to be" and "now," but to decide that 2018 (generally, the "before Collector boosters" era) was "the good old days" is just people expressing what they're nostalgic for presented as if it's more than just nostalgia driving it.
Enjoyed the intro and its music. Even happier to see it _wasn't_ a Magic 30 box ... Then the POG: Mythic in first pack, excellent rare in second pack! Was also happy to see that I have quite a few of the cards that showed up in this opening, that I've got from their original sets :)
A dragon with his treasure. Always grateful for the entertainment, Rudy. Thank you for the reminder the world will never run out of Magic…and Star Trek cards.
I remember cracking open a box of M14 for a friendly draft during COVID, and I really gotta say, less is more. If you ever get a chance to open an older set, and I mean like pre 2015, do it. It's a different experience, the art is different, foils actually feel special (and look way more beautiful). Maybe one day I'll buy a few packs of something like ice age or chronicles to get the feeling of something that was way before my time, I imagine those are special too, in their own way.
Just a couple of years ago Rudy would include the word Taco in every sentence... TACOS FROM BELOW... CAVERN OF TACOS... Thanks for the blast from the past Rudy.
Would love to see more of your stock of Dead TCGs/CCGs. Always interesting to see what games flopped and even so if people are looking for them. I know Ollies Discount store has been selling Warhammer Age of Sigmar Champions booster boxes, Dothack// TCG, and the very popular and very well made Austin Powers Collectable Card Game.
You got me, man. I was watching the whole intro thinking to myself "Rudy isn't staying the course.. not mad, but very disappointed.", then the UMA box dropped. Well done, Rudy.
Tomb is around 60-65, Cavern is around 50, Balefire is around 30 bucks. Entomb around 30. Engineered explosives is around 10 bucks. Since you mentioned how time changes... Goyf, the card that used to be $100 or more depending on the print. Was 40 when this set first came out... Now its around 10 bucks!
Thanks god Rudy , finally ! Good Old Ultimate masters opening . I still remember when Rudy has opened in two boxes two Cavern of Souls and box topper as well in addition . He was yelling out of camera: "Thats it , Im done ! " Good , how did you say many times throught video . " Back in the days , it was good old opening ! " Thanks you for staying with us ! I love the idea of reprinting the reserve list. Reprint it til they're worthless. That way all the collector value crashes, and the game can be about the fun again.
@@definitelynotnick2454 how so? Reprinting the list gives everyone full access to what's on it. How can that not be the best possible outcome for players?

Hey you got Star Wars boxes!? Nice!! Props on the Mirage homage - sweet art on that Firebreathing - love that block! “Just a few years ago it was normal Magic” - in addition to power creep I’d like to call it variation creep but it’s more like “Variation Virus” - timeline curiously matches another outbreak 😷. Maybe Hasbro’s brains got infected 🤷🏼♂️
Brings back many good memories of when Magic boxes were actually fun and genuinely exciting to crack.
I love Rudy’s version of Clickbait

the last cycle i opened and enjoyed opening was rath after that all downhill from there
that ending bit almost brought me to tears I miss this game so much. we're in the wrong timeline.
Truly makes you think about how 2019 was really peaceful and we did not even know it
Was very cohesive back then. Makes me sad to think about it now.
Rudy has the best sense of humor...and product from every card game known to man.
But does he have the new one piece card game?
