    The most beautiful lightweight motorcycle on the market in 2018
    Finally I have got the chance to test this beautiful motorcycle. The new Honda CRF 250 Rally. For me this is the most beautiful bike on the market today. I love every detail on it. The shape, the colours, the lightweight and the 21-18 inch combination. I have it for test ride and I was a bit disappointed from the engine. I know that it was only 25 h.p, but some how I was expected that they will be enough. They might be, but definitely not for heavy guy like me. Also the suspension is very soft and the small tank, only 10,1 litters make the bike not so convenient for long motorcycle trips. Anyway, it is not my bike, but could be the perfect adventure machine for many of you.

    I've said it many times already and I'll say it again. Honda should make CRF500L :) Parallel twin - a half sized Africa Twin.

      That will be the perfect machine for me.

      Yop, I don't have enough vacation to make trip at speeds CRF250s can do :) And for a city ... honestly if I had to commute I'd get PCX125 :) Plenty fast for city and economical :)

      @DragosDreamer1989 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep. But I think if they do that, they will negatively affect their own sales on their flagship bike, Africa Twin. Fortunately for the CB500X you can find a rally pack, on 3 different levels, but even that costs like 2-3K euros.

    Hi Pavlin,
    Thanks once again for a very accurate and honest review. This one is closer to my heart as I have this bike. Agreed, the power isn't great, but I do most of my riding on small rural lanes and in the hills and very little highway work. I use minimal luggage and a Giant Loop Coyote or the Kreiga OS Stuff is more than enough for my requirements and works perfectly on this bike. I'm not in any hurry and unlike you, I'm not tall (although I weigh too much!) at 5'9" and I find the screen ideal. Even with the suspension sag, I still find the bike a little tall although I'm getting used to her. I've dropped in power considerably and I haven't enjoyed my riding so much in years! I totally understand why the bike isn't for you (I think you'd love something halfway between the Africa Twin and this). Great review my friend.
    Peter

    Last year I went on an 1800 mile bike trip with my son, who has a 2013 Honda CRF250L. When we finished the trip, I sold my bike and bought a 2017 CRF250L model ... too much plastic on the Rally model ... stuff that would have to be replaced for a serious off-road trip. I'm leaving in 2 weeks for an epic 5,000+ mile Trans America Trail ride. Watch ANY video from the TAT, and no one ever says I wish I had a bigger bike. ;-)

    Thank you, Pavlin for another great video! I've watched many CRF 250 Rally reviews and yours is one of the best! I'm 63 years old, 6 ft and 180 lb and I think this is the bike for me. I haven't ridden since the '70s when I rode my Honda Trail 90 around the Santa Monica mountains in California, Pacific Coast Highway and dirt roads were so much fun so I want another lightweight bike as I'm retired now and want that fun again. Thinking of Mexico or Portugal and this bike would be perfect.

    I have a CRF250L since two years ago and I have made long trips with it (heavy loaded with packages) around my country (Chile) in both on-road and off-road. Only one critic remains invariable in my mind: (very) bad pre-load of rear suspension shock, which isn't adjustable. Everything else is really good.

    Hi from Australia Pavlin, I have watched other reviews of the CRF 250 Rally and apparently after 1000km the motor loosens up noticeably and the power is better. Also some have changed to one tooth extra on front sprocket which makes more relaxed riding on the motorway.
    It will always be a bit underpowered being a 250 but like you I think it is a good looking bike and with some sensible modifications including fixing soft suspension it would make a fine bike for some people.
    I would like you to do a review on Suzuki Vstrom XT 650 when you get the opportunity. I have a few bikes including 2018 model vstrom and I love it. Good power and road handling and set up properly could go most off road places. Great economy with 450km from 20 litre tank and comfortable for 120kph cruising.
    I always look forward to notifications from you. One of the best if not the best TH-cam motorcycle channels to watch from around the world. I hope you get to Australia some time.

      @motorcycleadventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Frank! Unfortunately I cannot test the Suzuki! The dealer in Berlin is very small and they don't have many bikes for test ride. I am sure that it is a great bike and as soon I have the chance I will test it. I am coming to Australia next year.

      Motorcycle Adventures I'm happy you have Australia on the list of places to visit. It is a big country with most of the population close to the coast line but there are plenty of great places to ride here. Try to avoid summer here November to March as it is pretty hot and uncomfortable to ride . When myself and mates ride in summer we usually meet at 6am and try to be home in the aircon by 11.30 am. Most of the rest of the year is quite comfortable however.If you can please let me know an email address I can contact you on. If you visit Brisbane which is capital city of Queensland I can offer you somewhere to stay and the use of a motorcycle to ride and I can give you details by email.

    Hi Pavlin, thanks for the review. Rode two of these with my wife for 10 days with luggage in the hills of northern Thailand. I am 1,90m/96kg, my wife 1,66m/64kg - they were great for both of us, although she had the suspension dropped a little.
    Power was a bit low for me - 10-15 hp more would be great (our usual bikes are old 50hp Transalps.)
    Only problem: front brake to small for me.Coming down a long, narrow, winding road off a high ridge on the Burmese border, the brake fluid boiled and I had a total front brake failure! Luckily no crash, but if it were my bike I would fit a better brake.

    There are not enough light-weight adventure motorcycles - which can easily be upgraded with travel equipment (rear luggage/suitcase rack, high windshield and so on) - with approx. 450-500 ccm engine displacement on the market. The manufacturers should offer more of those bikes especially for people with short legs as well as for people with a SMALL budget...!!

    The CR is a downmarket XR. I have Baja 250 air cooled carb model rated at 28 but junk the factory muffler and it is probably good for 30 Hp. Ten position damping on the rear makes for easy adjustment the only real handling difference is the upside down forks on the front of the CR, but I can leave them behind with ease. You need to get to know the engine as it has a very small power band and you need to chase the gears. Mine has 12 litre tank standard and they also made a 400cc version. Sad that they stopped developing the Baja as it is an exceptional bike. I miss being able to pick up the front wheel with ease but the stock front end seems to absorb ridiculous stuff with a full throttle squirt. I weigh 79 kilos/182 cm.

Regarding the fuel economy, I don't about the crf250L, but you'd be surprised how much Honda developed in fuel economy. The best fuel consumption I got, like on any bike, ever.. was on a Honda CB500X, a mind boggling 2.7 L / 100 km. So I wouldn't be surprised if they are right about this one at 3 L / 100 km.

    Got one, and have to agree with virtually all you have said. They are great for around town and forest trails, and fine for shorter adventure riding trips- say 200-500 kays sort of runs. Definitely under-powered (and I'm a lightweight), and way to heavy for class / size of bike. The same bike, but with a 450 cc motor, would be would have ticked a lot more boxes for many. Great non-biased review mate.

    Hi Pavlin (again this evening 😊)! I was interested in this motorcycle too, but I didn't buy it for all the reasons you have nentioned (we have about the same size, I'm a little bit shorter). The new CRF 300 RALLY seems to be a little bit better ... 27.5 HP, 12.5 L petrol tank. And the price is still good taking in consideration the option we have on the market. Definitely a 450 CRF would be much better! Wish you all the best.

    Hi Pavlin,
    Great stuff, i like your channel very much. Very honest and no BS... I am planing to buy a first motorcycle in one year or so and was considering this one but it has it's minuses. I am 35 years old, 1.92m and 90 kg, in good shape. I have tried a lot of models but I am limited because of my size. Can you give me a suggestion. Africa twin Adventure Sports fits me perfectly but as a first bike I think it would be very dangerous. Yamaha Tenere 700 seems the sweet spot (the money would not be a problem) but I even fear that one...
    The CRF250 Rally is of a good size but i need to buy a full suspension kit, front and back, taller windscreen, lover footpegs, full exaust system, higher custom seat. In the end it would cost me close to 9000 euros and really, for that money I could buy the Tenere 700. Do you think it is a good ideea? (I have to tell you that I like speed. I am not crazy about it, but like you said in one of your videos, if you can speed, you will eventually do it. And this is why I am afraid of)

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well...that is true, if you have fast bike you will ride fast. Considering your size I will suggest to stick into 600-700cc single cylinder no more than 50h.p at least for one year.

    Best looking bike in this class by far. 120kph at 7500 rpm should mean 80kph at 5000rpm, which is faster than I go on dirt trails. Being able to bottom out the suspension in two bounces is great for off road, closer to a trials bike setup.

Looking forward to the CB500X review as I have owned one for the past 5 years and the model you will ride is the slightly upgraded version with better suspension. As you and many others have said ... if it was a 400-500cc it might be the best bike of this type out there. Things as : windshield , luggage rack , bar risers , nice footpegs , center stand and such - bike manufactures as a rule just don`t supply with stock bike . The altogether different question - why manufactures even allowed to do that ? - to put on market incomplete bikes . For example my Honda NC700X had no windshield to speak of , no luggage rack whatsoever , not even center stand .
    The same goes for suspension , fuel tanks , Whoever buys bike for adventure riding , knows that upgrades are a MUST . i just was surprised that you mentioned those shortcomings in your bike reviews , as if they were not universal , common , accepted by everyone as a norm occurrence on any stock bike .
    Honda CRF250 is beautiful , as well as XR 650L . Wanted to get it badly . Almost bought CRF250 , but … i live in NYC , Harlem - it`s worse than your merkel Germany - they would`ve stolen it before i even register the bike .
    I think , it is not your bike not because you tall ( 6 ft is not really that tall ) or heavy ( american heavy = 104 kg and up ) - you can upgrade suspension , bar risers and lower pegs - and be just fine . You are just very advanced , very experienced adventure rider - and used to appropriate advanced adventure motorcycle . Off course you need the best , powerful , super adventure bike .
    Nice as always review .

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What I need is a simple machine with 500-700cc, no more than 200kg with some off road possibilities. No need of all that electronic shit, even the ABS is not a must. That's it! Thank you for another honest and very true revue. There is currently no new mid-sized light weight motorcycles available, something many people, myself included, are waiting for. The anticipated Tenere 700 should solve that problem. The KTM 790? Well, KTM makes the best Rally motorcycles but they have no idea how to make adventure motorcycles. Just look at their slogan to confirm that. An adventure is not a race and their motorcycles echo their slogan perfectly. Not a bad thing, just a question of an identity crisis.
