    It’s not just about the figure itself. It’s essential where the weight was located. Saving 7,5 lbs on an exhaust system mounted under the seat and the tails section makes a much more significant difference for the handling than saving 10-12 lbs down low. Together with the battery change it has to be a noticeable change. So your not just justifying the expense, the difference in handling you feel is reality.

    • @tomdoe4295
      @tomdoe4295 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, you can take that 12 lbs and move it to the bottom of the bike and feel a handling difference without removing the weight.

  • @leslieaustin151
    @leslieaustin151 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I got one of those exhausts for my 1992 Yamaha Serow. Certainly a bit (too) loud, but i liked the sound. I quietened it down by putting a stainless steel pot-scrubber in the silencer in front of the baffle. Perfect! Same note, but a less neighbour-annoying racket. And weight saved (my old exhaust had rotted out anyway..) Les in UK

    For me its putting a 100-100-18 K270 tire on the rear, and AL sprocket with MX chain. Those 3 shave over 4lbs off, all off the crank too so u gain back a little power lost

  • @lepycelrau

  • @greywings6605
    @greywings6605 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    I like the lights, but as you mentioned, it was poorly designed. The battery switch is awesome, the exhaust I would not change it. I like the bike to be as quiet as possible, so I would keep it eventhough its much heavier. But, I'm the only person I know who doesn't like noisy bikes. I don't like attention through noise, but through design and looks, it's ok 👍 Good job on your upgrades ✌

    • @matto29
      @matto29  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah riding around town I’m not really in love with the sound but it’s not nearly as loud as a Harley or anything like that so it’s manageable and I think worth the trade off in weight savings. Appreciate the comment, my friend!

    Great and honest video! You can also invest in a smaller front sprocket just by one tooth (ex: 14T to 13T) which will lower your gearing thus giving you more low end grunt/pull. But without changing it so much that it throws off you speedometer and speeds.

    Solid weight reduction. Doesn’t add up to much weight but I also removed the front reflectors with metal brackets bolted to the triple clamps on the forks and the plastic chain guard and bolts. Does nothing and it’s easier to clean the chain with it gone!

    • @ScottHomeVideos
      @ScottHomeVideos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The bike has a narrowband O2 sensor and adjusts the fueling appropriately under half throttle. Over half throttle it reverts to a preset fuel map. I tuned mine with an FMF can and EJK with a wideband O2 sensor and found that with stock settings it ran lean at idle, full throttle and high speed cruise. After adjusting the EJK to just add a small bit of fuel at those spots and a couple transition points to get to 14.3 afr, it runs like a top and still gets 70+mpg, even off road, fully loaded with camping gear. Hope this helps a bit

    • @Trickhorn
      @Trickhorn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question: was your model affected by the recall? I have the exact same bike, purchased it used and found out later that certain bikes in that model and year had a factory recall. My information has been unclear as to, if it was all or some of the 18s that were affected. I checked the vin on the NHTSA website and it told me it had 0 un-repaired issues but do not know if it never had an issue or it has already been repaired. It had almost 5k miles on it when purchased and have had no issues but searching for any additional information. I love the bike and your video. Cheers!

    With that exhaust you'll need to retune your ECU. The bike already runs lean. That exhaust will only make it worse. Sure you save a few pounds (most of it in heat shield which you may need) but you won't gain anymore HP. You're just moving the torque curve. But now your gas milage will go down, because you have to richen up the mixture or risk burning your exhaust valves.

    That rear fender probably had 1 or 2 ounces of dirt on it. Not a huge amount, but if you are using such an accurate scale, it makes sense to clean the dirt off the parts before weighing, otherwise you're not getting an accurate result.

    From my personal experience, it is a waste to pay to reduce this bikes weight. Lighter bike is actually less comfortable to ride at highway speed. My dad, brother and I just road the OK portion of the TAT, and in most cases, the bike needed a little more weight to feel stable. If you're wanting to do trials completion or MX, then by all means, reduce the weight, or get a different bike.

    Sorry but, Really? Why didn't you buy a real low weight dirt bike instead of small "heavy" adventure bike? I don't know how it works in Canada but in Europe, you can not ride motorbike on the roads without rear turning lights. Also battery. Did you changed highend battery from Yuasa to 15$ battery bcs of the weight? Good luck with cold starts after cold nights. One thing I can accept is exhaust exchange.

      The TST taillight has functioning turn signals. I’m not sure where you’re buying lithium ion batteries for $15 but that’s a good deal. The one I bought starts great even here in frosty Canada. Hope you’re having a great autumn Lubomir 😘
