These crashes remind me that cycling is an extreme sport after all. Who would’ve imagined the collapse of Jumbo Visma, the team dominated 2023 season? As a fan of Tadej Pogacar, I’d love to see him winning Giro and Tour double, but this is definitely not the way I (and many fans) wanted.
I've been watching motorcycle racing for years, and they're suited up in padded leather, proper crash helmet. These bike racers out there in skin tight lycra with a plastic helmet, I really feel for them when a crash happens.
@@ShimmyD-u7g also they race on a race track which has a lot of safety measures and consideration taken (they fall and slide on grass), unlike here some country road with its unpredictability and difficulty to make it safe along the entire way.
@@ShimmyD-u7gthe helmet does offer pretty good protection, however the lycra indeed does not. They should wear at least a bit more protection like for example japanese keirin racers. Still, it's not motorcycle gear, but it is better than lycra
Yeah it's pretty extreme indeed. As a fan of both Tadej and Primoz, I still look forward to these races, just remember, Tadej broke his wrist last year and Primoz had his share of bad luck more then once! So don't think less of what they win this year because two big riders are compromised.
This accident was so devastating, I wanted to see Tadej vs Jonas battles but I doubt Jonas will be at his best this year, as it happened to Tadej last year when he broke his wrist. Most importantly hope that all injured riders have a quick and good recovery
I was devastated when they all crashed like that. This was gonna be a Clash of the Titans and season to end all seasons. Finally everyone was healthy and all on different teams. Then Basque Country took out 3 of the top 4 riders. Only hope now is that Egan Bernal continues to improve 😭 so it’s not just the Tadej Pogacar show
What are you talking about? Roglic only has bruises, he would be 100% for Giro, let alone for Tour. For all his falling, he was extremely lucky to walk the fall off.

How could you state early in the video that no one was responsible, of course someone was responsible, the Race crash was caused by the organisers of the race for allowing the race to be held on such a bad road surface, but then again the only people who count are those who are not riders, that is clear as day as the teams have continued the race, they should have stood as one and retired on block.

In last year TDF 2023 Tadej Bogacar wasn't at his best because of his hand fracture. In this year TDF Jonas Vingegaard will not be at his best because of this crash (if he even takes part). Tadej will destroy everyone at TDF 2024, which will make me happy as I wanted him to win last year.
I think they'll all recover just in time for the Dauphine, then race in the TdF at about 80% condition (Including Pogacar because he just competed in the Giro).
It happened because one guy braked too hard whilst cornering, lost his front end and that made everyone behind him brake and fall off. That is what happens when the limits of grip are being explored. Let's hop everyone get's back into it without too much grief.
Not at all. It has been said that there were ripples (tree roots?) in/under the pavement. Slow the vid down and you can see all of them running over it, their wheels hopping around and being thrown wider through the turn. The front wheel washout was the last ditch attempt at cornering hard to make the turn I presume.
@@WattsYT Fair enough. Narration like "Fred Smith was seen to enter a building," while showing him enter the building struck me as odd, especially the number of times you said "was seen to." Blimey. You'll all end with calls to stop your sport like when the doom merchants come out the woodwork to ban the TT. At least the bike racers wear some vestige of protective gear.
Principal reason for the crash is Evenopoel isn’t making the corner. He’s inside and ahead of the rider who washes out his front, who probably out braked himself panicking about running out of road. The sound of the crash appears to cause Evenopoel to bottle it and off he goes. Others behind stop looking through the corner and focus on the riders crashing… and carnage ensues.
Same here. And the oscar goes to the visma team. After the crash woet and jonas will be brillant on the tour de france. After the dream season last year (they win the 3 tours) the team from crash after crash demolish everyone at the tour de france even pogacar. Sorry, but i don't trust Visma team...
there's no evidence they are using peds but even if they are its still falls under doctor-patient confidentiality, you're knocking on the wrong door with the wrong fist
I won’t be watching the tour this year it’ll be boring and upsetting watching pogacar mocking and dropping everyone feeding his ego, yet not admitting or realizing he’ll win because evenepol and vingegard are out.

I wouldn't be surprised if Visma doesn't let Jonas race. He's still pretty young and there's too much to lose.
Stef cras?
panic braking with discs...............then the frontwheel is gone
It happened because one guy braked too hard whilst cornering, lost his front end and that made everyone behind him brake and fall off. That is what happens when the limits of grip are being explored. Let's hop everyone get's back into it without too much grief.
Not at all. It has been said that there were ripples (tree roots?) in/under the pavement. Slow the vid down and you can see all of them running over it, their wheels hopping around and being thrown wider through the turn. The front wheel washout was the last ditch attempt at cornering hard to make the turn I presume.
Am I the only one who thinks this video has a lot of AI generated content? And that a lot of the comments (very generic) came from bots?
Yep, you're the only one. Answer to some people's comments and see if they respond ;)
@@WattsYT Fair enough. Narration like "Fred Smith was seen to enter a building," while showing him enter the building struck me as odd, especially the number of times you said "was seen to." You can just say "Fred Smith entered the building."
Perhaps the narration was competed before the visual components were assembled.
Anyway, I am glad you are human. I found this a fact-filled, informative video.
Correct, the audio was made before the video footage was added indeed, that's why this happens, my bad :) Anyways, thank you!
Guess who this crash helps. I'll give you a hint, it rhymes with Zepp Tush.
Where was the car?
Don't count anyone out who will be living in a "High Altitude" hotel with several tubes going into their body for the next six weeks and the latest technology that sees a remarkable, non human recovery....
Blimey.
¡ Es lo que tiene perder el tiempo con los vascos ! Que de ahí no iba a salir nada bueno, era cosa clara.
I really hope kuss is the leader!
Oh no!
That's bike racing. It doesn't ruin the season. It just changes the dynamics. We may discover a new star as a result.
Don't forget Mathew vandepole is under good shape.. 😮
Van der Poel is not a GC rider.
MVDP is a classicist rider, not a tour type of rider
White paint on the road!!!
But it wasn’t someone near the middle if the road or near a white line who first went down
Organizer's fault!
gc kuss
Sepp Kuss is the GOAT!! He won La Vuelta and he will win the TdF this year!!
He was GIFTED La Vuelta. Now he has to 'prove' he can do something!
Gifted the vuelta. He's not a gc contender. His tt is horrible and he's good for setting pace making him a great Dom but that's about it
They'll be ready to go. Just double up on the dope.
Same here. And the oscar goes to the visma team. After the crash woet and jonas will be brillant on the tour de france. After the dream season last year (they win the 3 tours) the team from crash after crash demolish everyone at the tour de france even pogacar. Sorry, but i don't trust Visma team...
So when the doctors in hospital ask them if they are on ped, what do they say?
"What do my tests show?"
there's no evidence they are using peds but even if they are its still falls under doctor-patient confidentiality, you're knocking on the wrong door with the wrong fist
giving the blame to roots on road racing is like so cringe
teams never heard of trackwalks? i mean HOW MANY HIGH SPEED CORNERS WITH RISK UHAVE TO REMEMBER?
I won’t be watching the tour this year it’ll be boring and upsetting watching pogacar mocking and dropping everyone feeding his ego, yet not admitting or realizing he’ll win because evenepol and vingegard are out.
Thumbnail cringe af
