Well, it looks to be functional... maybe a little slower but a real blessing for someone who doesn't want to bend over a hundred times to cut some wood. Doing what works for yourself is something that makes TH-cam entertaining and diverse on the ideas and processes to accomplish similar tasks. Good video!
Hi Logan, yes sir It is slow compared to cutting on the ground or in the wood pile, but I've also tried using my grapple and the timberjack and a few other back-saving things. Compared to those two, it's way faster and less work. Plus I can buck an 8-foot log into six 16-inch rounds without moving anything but the saw. Thanks for watching, buddy! Have a great weekend! :)

Pretty slick log holder. Can’t say I’ve ever seen one like it, but it looked like it worked well. Might be able to use your grapple also to hold a log up in the air to cut 👍
Hey Dave, yeah it's a nifty tool for sure. I do use my grapple for larger stuff but I'm really trying to get away from running the grapple all day long in the log yard. I"m also looking for ways to have somebody else working in the log yard while I'm on another part of the land using the tractor. It's just another tool in the toolbox :)

I use my backhoe with the thumb when I need to use something similar, and it would be too low on my side by side, but on the back of the Big tool rack works the treat! Thanks David.

Hi David! That Jaw Boss is a very clever device and is clearly a big help to you. Yes, a log cart would be another good investment for you. I use either my tractor with forks or my backhoe with thumb to do the same thing. Great video! Thanks for sharing!

I really like that Jaw Boss, it is a fantastic product. It would be even better if could be fitted to your FEL so you could drive up to the log and use the tractor to lift it
Hey Joseph! Yeah I thought of that too, but the main reason I thought I'd give this tool a try is so that I don't have to use the tractor's FEL so much. Plus, I drop the Big Tool Rack in place and go get more loads while a helper stays in the yard and bucks. It's a pretty good system. Thanks for watching, my friend!! Cheers :)

How's she goin'? Anything that can save our backs is a good investment. This is a neat set up and good for the small diameter logs you have. I suppose if the logs were bigger you could pick them up in the grapple and use that for the buck. Good luck with your new logging tool!! Take care!!!

What a great idea for the alders you have.. it manages those 6-7” logs quite easily. Most of the logs I process into firewood are a bit larger..10-14” diameter.. so I’ll be sticking with my method using the backhoe with the thumb to grab them in the middle, and cut to splitting size.

David, another great product demonstration! It really does work well for what it is designed for. Not everyone can work the same way. This is great because it enables you to continue to get out and work that Stihl without the strain of bending over the whole time. 👍

I am certainly a fan of any tool or accessory that makes it physically easier on a person. I am blessed with a weak mind and a halfway strong back so as a result I abuse it and myself daily. I have a hookaroon that's probably older than me and you put together and I have never used it. But, it having been part of my Grandfathers estate, it looks good hanging on the wall. I also am fortunate to have the Missus to do all my heavy work.....!! LOL. Not really, but she IS the first to chastise me for doing dumb stuff all the time. Good video showing the Jaw Boss David. You might could end the video with something like: "...ask your doctor if the Jaw Boss is right for you". (-: Have a plentiful and blessed day my friend.

I don't use it much right now because I'm working with fir that's too large for it, but I expect to use it quite a bit when I go to buck up a lot of that small alder. Thank you for watching, sir! That works great with the Big Tool Rack.Maybe you could still use your pickaroon to help life the log up without having to bend clear down. Just a thought. but then again, if you take advice from me on pickaroons, you may be going for a walk.

That is a pretty handy tool. You have a grapple right? If the log was small enough diameter to fit in that apparatus, have you tried using the grapple to pick the log up from the end and have the same outcome? Anything to save your back! I get it! Good demo! Keep them coming!
Yeah, I've used the grapple for the same thing, but it's a lot of extra effort and more wear & tear on the tractor to use the grapple for these little logs. I figure this tool is just another one in the toolbox. Thanks for watching, Mike! Have a great weekend :)

Ha! Well I can't afford a Milwaukee brand! Just kidding, those are nice tools but all my battery tools are Dewalt. I have the 12" Dewalt saw and it's a good little saw too. :)

As someone who's fought my share of back issues, I can't argue with your logic David. That looks like a great tool, particularly for those logs up to 6-8". Seems like the grapple would be the obvious answer for larger stuff?

Hey Chris, yes the grapple would be best suited for anything more than around 8". So far, only have a few logs larger than 8" because I had to remove 4 or 5 dying Firs last year. Thanks for watching and you have a great weekend, also! :)

You used all that safety equipment, but did not use a hitch pin to ensure the Jaw Boss doesn't fall out of the receiver?
Another great tool David, I had seen something similar to this a few years ago that clamped/strapped to a tree. Yours fits in a hitch which is nice. Any ideas on the log splitter you plan on getting? I am in the market for one too, Leaning towards the champion model.
Thank you, Joey :) I'm leaning toward the County Line 25ton because I can pick it up at Tractor Supply in town. I like the Champion 27ton also but it is at a box store in another town down the highway so I would have to put it on a trailer. I can tow the County Line home on its own wheels. I think those two machines are pretty closely matched though I would prefer to have the one with the Kohler engine. I haven't decided which way to go yet, though.
Im not familiar with alder? To me they look like birch trees that grow over here on the east coast which can be used to make white birch soda as well as birch syrup which isnt as good as maple in my opinion. Maybe the alder and white birch are similar. I think the best tool for firewood i have ever bought was the waste oil furnace! It requires no firewood and the fuel is free lol!
Alder is a member of the birch family and this variety is very similar. Most people see birch trees when they look at the forest. They're hardwood and burn really well. Some people use them like hickory on the BBQ. Most of the logs in my yard are deadfall so they're pretty old and very brittle. Thanks for watching, folks :)
