    Well done David! I recommend you buy an arborist rope, tree saver, D-ring shackle and a snatch block for pulling down dead trees like I did in those recent #shorts. Pulling that tow strap around a tree is rough on both the strap and the tree. I bought my gear on Amazon and have links to them in the Home & Garden section of my Amazon store, if you’re interested. There is a tall live tree near my shop that I will cut down soon using the rope and rigging to insure it falls away from the shop and not on it. Looking forward to seeing you tackle that next dead tree!

      Hey Martin! Thank you sir. Well since most of my gear came by way of your recommendations, It's only fair that I keep up that trend. I'll get me a set for that other tree. Don't be surprised if I send you a personal email asking for tips though. ;) Thanks for watching, my friend!

      True, Brad & Deb! These alders tend to explode more than they barber chair so it's either do it from a distance or erect a level 10 containment field around them. I don't have the latter tech available, so distance it is! :) LOL Thanks for watching, folks! :)

      Hey Dave! Yes and these Alders always come down in pieces when they're too old or too dead. ;) The neighbor dog there loves to be in on the action. Before the new fence on that side, he'd crawl through and come over to play with my kid. :) We've got really nice neighbors. :) Thanks for watching, buddy. :)

    Nice work! We have a few trees that we need to clean up too but no fancy tools to do it, lol. We waited so long with one that it slowly lowered itself until it laid across our privacy fence, lol! It didn't even break anything, we got lucky! Thanks for sharing!

    Good job! I have a tall dead ash, leaning and hung up in another tree that I was hoping mother natures wind would knock it down over the winter. Once again she let me down…lol…soon I will have to get on it and do it myself. Nice video. Thanks David.

    David, good safe way to drop, I have 3 30’ straps hooked together and drop trees the same way. Take Care 👍🏼🚜🪵🇺🇸

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thank you Larry. These are really good straps. I bought another 30' strap after filming this video. Luckily I don't have that many dead ones on the property now so this method is fine for the occasional ones. I'm going to get the cable/snatch block kit at some point to at least see how it works! Take care, my friend!

    Hey David, great job getting that old tree down. As brittle as the tree was it would have been dangerous to work to close to it. You got it done the right way.

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Joey, thank you buddy! These dead Alders always make me nervous to be around. We get a lot of wind down here, especially through this part of the forest and those trees can literally explode at any moment. The best way to keep it safe is to keep taking them down and keeping a good distance seems to be a good idea to me! :) Thanks for watching, my friend! Cheers!

      Thank you, Joseph! Yeah these Alders make a great canopy for shade and the wildlife thrive in these forests but once they begin to die, they become a real hazard along the trails. Since we have so many of them and they're so densely packed, I'm always scanning for a newly dead one whenever I'm walking or riding through them. Thanks for watching and take care! Cheers! :)

    Watch your back David 👍🏻. They are dangerous trees to bring down, I wouldn’t want to be using a chain on it, I would be afraid like you said to have a piece fall off while you’re cutting 😳. Take care my friend 🙂🙋🏼‍♂️👍🏻

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Luc. Fortunately I only have a few dead trees left on the property as I removed dozens last summer. Of course new dead ones will pop up, but since there will be fewer I can take more time with them. A few people have suggested more sophisticated tools for this task and I'll be looking to those new tools in the future. Forestry is inherently dangerous, but has to be done and no homeowner that I know of can afford to hire someone every time an issue pops up - lots to learn here :) I appreciate you watching and for your insights! Thanks again, buddy :)

    dang that thing was rotten to snap like that. Take care of your pulling yourstrap around a tree like that. It wears them out quickly. The bark acts like sand paper You might want to consider a static strap around the tree and (very) large shackle and thread your moving line trap through the shackle. I pull on lets of trees usually caught up, but they are 20+ inches inches in diameters, and have lots of block and tackle setup to be able to pull them.

      Hello! Yes, these Alders sure are brittle like that. I really appreciate the info and tip. I've had a few other comments related to better ways to get safe leverage on the tree including some kits with cables and snatch blocks - so I have some research to do. :) Thanks again for your insights and comment. I really appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts. I hope to see you here again on the next tree felling video. :) - David

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Scott! It's okay for small things or quick things like this one cut. That little saw helped me log ever downed tree that's in all of these huge log piles laying around everywhere, so it has value. The batteries last an okay amount of time, nothing spectacular. I have four 6ah batteries that I keep charged and with me. During the summer they tend to overheat quickly and appear to drain quickly. I think this saw is worth the money. Thanks for watching, buddy. :)

      It is. I've seen a local arborist climb to the top of a dying one to top it out and then bring it down from the trunk. I don't know if I could climb a dying Alder knowing how these things behave. He's the pro though!
