The STX is an AWESOME budget package, for someone who wants a premium look without the premium price tag. Me personally can't stand the column shifter so I'd had to go with the XLT with the console shifter. Another gripe I have with the XLT though is no LED headlights, thats a no no. That said, both nice trucks! Can't go wrong with either one
I'm the opposite with the shifter. I work at a Ford dealership and every time I jump into a truck with the center shifter, I still make a grab for the column. Honestly I don't look at the lack of LED lights as a problem. LEDs would just be another thing they could mark up as a $500 option. You could just pick up some LEDs for $100 online and it's just plug and play.
Great video, one comment: you can still get the 40/20/40 seats on the STX - the 40/console/40 is an option for $295. You can see that line item on the window sticker you posted. I have a XLT 302A w/ center jump seat and actually prefer it. Less space to collect junk and can haul 6 adults (which I've done a few times). Also the lower cup holders are awesome for tall Yeti tumbler. For anyone that wants it - hill decent control can be added for a $20 button and a couple changes in ForSCAN.
Yep this is true , as I just got a 2019 , but still comes with a fold down arm rest , and a huge storage area under the model seat! , I was like, this is a nice surprise ! and the fold down seat that is then a arm rest is super comfortable height wise and has 2 cup holders built into it.... Like it better then standard console, gives ya more options!
When I was looking, they kept telling me stx was standard with the center console, so I ended up going XLT. But I actually like the automatic seats, seat warmers, rear window, etc.
@@charlespalmerii4299 I don't mind it, but I'd much prefer the center console more easily accessible for storage of belongings. Kind of a pain flipping the bench seat back. 1st world problems...
Currently I'm leasing a 2018 XLT 302A and this video was perfect in helping me decide what trim I am going to look at once my lease is up. Short of remote start on the key itself the STX trim level has everything I want in it. Heated seats that I don't even like, remote start on the key, and box lighting are not worth $5,200. I can save that money an purchase an awesome set of rims/tires, aftermarket stereo, ford performance/roush tuning packages etc etc. Thanks for posting this great video !
First time owner here, and I must admit .... I got a whole lotta new information here than the dealership I bought my truck from..... all they were interested in was overwhelming me with stupid add-ons I didn't need. I wish I saw this video before I bought my truck. Thanks for the information.
Watched this video back in March and glad I did. I just bought a 2020 STX Super Crew 4x4 over the XLT. Saved the 5k and also got the 0% financing. Thanks Mitchel, I really appreciate the details you provide for each trim level. I kind of wanted the FX Off road package, but didn't want to spend the extra money. However, just took my truck off roading and when you go into 4 low with manual shifting and stay in 1st gear, it really crawls going downhill. I mean it can almost stand still on a downhill grade. Not sure if the Hill Descent Control is worth the extra cash. Glad I saved the money, I'll buy my own skid plates lol. Most of all I still can't believe I'm getting over 20 mpg out of my Coyote V8 on the highway!! I love my truck!!
If you want just the 8” SYNC 3 and a center console but don’t want power seats, dual climate control, and a rear sliding window, then yes. It just depends on what you want and how much you are willing to pay between the STX and the XLT.
SYNC 3 Sucks though...My APIM just went out and my Explorer is just out of warranty. Ford told me to pound sand....$1,200 at my local Ford Stealership...
I appreciate the time you spent to explain this in great detail. I’m looking for a truck in the next 12 months or so and your experience makes things clear.
I have to say this is one of the best videos I’ve watched from an informational standpoint. Coming from someone who despises the whole car buying process and for the most, not all, personalities of the car salesmen I think I would actually enjoy dealing with young man whether we worked a deal out or not.
I’m in Texas and I just bought this 2019 the weekend before last just because of this video, went with the 2019 stx velocity blue with the 2.7. Your video was awesome, thank you for going into all the details
Brother, super helpful video! Thank you so much! I have been considering these two for my purchase, and you answered tons of questions for me. I really appreciate it. STX, here I come!
yeah I can. I got my 2019 brand new (24 miles on odometer) for 36k and the dealer had added 36 gallon gas tank, spray in bedliner, wheel well covers, and it had the tailgate step just to entice a buyer. My truck is an exact copy of the stx in this video, right down to the gorgeous ingot silver.
@@jordanemch1274 I went in today for a 19 but they didn't have one in abyss gray. They had a 2020 302a fx4, tow package and bigger gas tank than standard... They were wanting 47.8k out the door. I thought it was a little high?
Nice review Thanks. I Just bought an XLT with Chrome package as well as a towing package. Has a camper parking assist and huge pullout side view mirrors. Also got another $1500 for a trade in rebate here in NH. I pick it up in 2 days after liner and under coating is installed. Cannot wait. Loved my 2011 F150 with the 3.5L Ecoboost. I did try out the 2020 with a V8 but man that thing is so slow off the line and getting on the highway, I hated it. Actually felt like a Chevy or Dodge... Nothing like an ecoboost motor once you try it you will never go back.
I agree, the 5.0 is a slug off the line, no low end torque, it is just a car engine afterall. A friend of mine has the v8 and is disappointed how it performs, my eco just spanks it at any speed, it drives him nuts 😀
I like the STX grill as well. I have a 2017 Lariat that I love, but I like that Honeycomb grill on the STX probably better than any other grill on the F150s.
Never knew what STX was. Thanks for that. Also, the starting prices are just absolutely ridiculous. Just price them right to begin with without all the goofy 'discounts'.
I have Subscribed to your Channel. I appreciate the Honesty! You repeat that you want to provide knowledge to help people make the right choice. I live in Minnesota, probably not gonna buy a vehicle from you, however, it might be a nice option because of your TCCustoms. What I truly hate, is that the prices for these vehicles has gotten ludicrous. I paid $26K for a 2004 F150, XLT, SuperCab, 5.4L V-8, 4wd. Now that has become the starting price for F150 XL, Reg Cab, 3.3L V-6. grgrgrgrgr I know how to drive and I don't like all the stinking computer gadgetry. Keep up the great job of Video's! :)
On the ford pass app you can also do programmed starts. In the winter time, i start mine every morning, 15 minutes before i leave. Windows are defrosted, cab is heated, seats warned up. On a recent trip to AZ, i parked my truck at the valet parking at the airport in Denver, CO. The Valet locked my keys in the truck and they couldn't move it. When they called, I unlocked my truck from Phoenix, AZ while the truck was parked in Denvef, CO! The 2019 XLT is a pulling machine, course i have the max tow package. The 3.5 ecoboost will pull my camper up the CO mountains with no problem. Where i was surprised was coming down the mountains. The 10 speed transmission really shines. Just set the gear and you can coast down the mountains without burning up your brakes, impeading traffic, and remain in control. I love having the backup camera, makes hooking up the camper a 1 backup shot. I use the navigation feature on the truck, cause cell phone coverage can get spotty in the mountains and canyons. And in town, it will give you traffic feedback. I have noticed the road turns green, yellow and red for traffic flow. And i also get traffic and weather alerts on the nsv system. Overall, i love my 2019 XLT. I needed a good truck for towing amdd everyday driving and that's exactly what I got.
I wish I lived there, I would definitely buy from him. Now on the truck, my opinion only, there is not 1 half ton truck worth more than $40,000.. The prices on these trucks have gotten out of hand, which is why more folks are looking at used and saving around $15-20,000 dollars.... Great video
Man I agree. There are a couple XLTs local that have the setup I would want and are marked down almost $15k right now.....the problem is that number they're marked down FROM is way too high to start with so even the sales price makes my eyes bug out....and I'm rich.
I just bought a Race Red 2wd Supercrew.. I love the way you explained everything.. I agree with you the STX is the most awesome grill. Reminds of the 2nd generation Lightning.. Thank you so much for the video.. What I love on the Sport are the tire treads in the seat,, Thank you so much, Marvin C.Bazemore
You can add the door code key pad on the STX for $135.00. I know this because I had them put it on my 19 STX. My STX was $33,900 with the keypad, bed liner sprayed in and My front side windows tinted. Mine is equipped with the 2.7 It also came with the front buckets and center console.. I love it
Tom Phipps where can you find the key pad modification? I got the 19’ 5.0 FX4 wasn’t settling for the 2.7 had to go to multiple dealerships and haggle.
Great video. Awesome guy to explain the finances. I have a 2019 STX, FX4, with a 2.7. I put a 2" leveling kit on it, added running boards and made a plywood box liner and I'm quite smitten with my 1/2 ton that does 24-26 mpg (21 US). I was all in at $39901.31 Cdn for mine (I live in Northern Alberta) so that'd be 31286.93 US depending on the exchange day. I'm super happy with my deal. I'm 50k kms so far 30k miles and the only hitch is the diaper (right behind the skid plate) they put on those trucks for road noise. I went through two and simply removed it. If you run dirt roads, mud or lots of snow and ice you'll undoubtedly figure it out quickly. I'm going up one level next time. I like the 75 more hp option in the 3.5 and I want the remote start off my phone. Cheers.
I love my 2018 STX! Best value truck on the market to me. I've put leather seats in it as well as a remote start from 12volt solutions that utilizes the factory key. Power seats would have been nice, but I can live with manual seats, since I'm really they only one that drives it. Definitely a good base platform if you want to do your own upgrades. Love the videos, sir!
@@coachbeam3600 same. I have since got rid of that STX for a Lariat, but c’mon, aren’t we in a time where at least making power seats standard is a viable option? Lol.

@@coachbeam3600 oh I love my Lariat! Best luxury features for the price, if you can get it for MSRP or under! I don’t necessarily care about 360 cameras, sunroof, adaptive cruise control or heated steering while like some of the higher trims have. I got all I could ever need in a luxury truck. Lol.
Bought my stx in August 2019. Great truck. Looks cool and performs well. I got so many compliments. I love my truck because I can take my family along with me wherever I go.

So 5,200 for power seats, navigation and a step up to get in the bed, led lights in the bed and gear shifter in the center instead of on the collar. I just don't see any value going with the XLT. Did I leave something out?
I have a 2017 f150 STX and I love it gives me enough bells and whistles without being a spaceship, lol. And I completely agree about being able to use your phone as your GPS. It makes it so much easier. Also the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 has plenty of power for towing, highway use, etc. I absolutely love mine. Thank you for a great video.

Thanks for the informative video, been a fan of Town and Country TV for a while, that said I will stick with 2018 F150 STX. Thanks again for all your great work. Signed a very happy STX owner. (:
Fixing to pickup a 2020 STX 4x4 with upgraded 3.55 rear end, upgrading the seats to katzskin as well as having the bed spray lined. I would love to have power seats but for the price I can’t justify spending an additional 5k for the few extra options that aren’t a necessity for me. Think my out the door price with the seats being upgraded and spray in bed liner is right at 39,000 after the rebates. This is my first ever new truck buy and feel like this is my best option after seeing how much used trucks are going for.

Xlt. They are just right. Not too many options but some of the most important to me. Those higher trim levels are nice but too many gadgets and electronics that can fail. Currently in my second xlt superduty and love it.
Looking forward to this next video. I hope it's a 502a package Lariat! Mitchell is it better to buy off the lot or special order? Does special orders not get the discounts?
Wow. Outstanding. Best F-150 comparison video! And did I just encounter a what seems to be an honest car dealer? I would drive thousands of miles to buy from you. Thank you!
Thanks good detail on video. We personally own the STX with the FX4 package. Runs good looks good, and goes good with our 63,64,and 65 F100’s. Make sure to mention the fact they have rear air for passengers. The Silverado trims and GMC does not offer those in certain trim level unless u pay the higher price models. (I know cause I test drove em and only higher trim levels offer, that’s why we choose our F150) In the end we shall see if they last as long as our 50 year old trucks that still run down the highway at 70mph. Let’s hope Ford hasn’t forgot about us working men.
I just bought an F150 STX Super Cab 2.7 yesterday. I agree with you on the front grill. I also like the look of the STX grill more so then the XLT. But also, look how much more airflow you're getting with the STX grill. On the XLT so much of it is blocked off.
@@millardthomas9059 It's been great. I haven't had one problem with it. That 2.7 is one sweet, smooth running engine. If not for the tach gauge you would think the engine is not running when you're sitting at a stop light. Im a big fan of turbos, and as long as they are properly taken care of, which is very simple, they are trouble free.
Dont know about 19 & 20 but when purchasing my 18 the only way to get a sliding rear window was the XLT w/power equipment and same for the remote start. So that and some other small things made the XLT necessary for me.
That is my gripe about some of the xlt’s. I can’t stand the fold down center counsel. I know you can option for one without and get the column shifter though.

Just bought the 2021 STX supercab 4x4 in black and I love it. I get tons of compliments on the truck.
I got the XLT and love it! 🇺🇸
I appreciate you guys being so honest and just being yourselves.
Honesty is hard to find in 2022 but this ol' boy has still got it. And it is appreciated.
Bench seat is standard on the STX, the console is a $300 option.
Bench seat is nice to have your lady sitting close to you.
@@hankvinson5967 wow she needs that whole bench seat?🙄😖
Thank you for being honest about the Ford Motor Credit that we can pay it off or refinance it ANYTIME we want! I am really surprised you said that!
XLT for sure well worth it. i like this dude if i lived close id buy my next XLT from him.
If you did any research on what is included with the XLT pkg you would see the difference between the base model stx versus XLT
I’ve got an 18 3.5 EB Screw XLT FX4 with 302 A and the extra money is well worth if for the keypad heated seats and remote start from the key fob
Great video! Would LOVE to see y'all talk about/ demonstrate the new Ford Performance Leveling Kit for the 4x4 F150s
I love how honest this fella is
First time owner here, and I must admit ....
I thought about XLT for a while but I didn’t want all the bells and whistles so I opted for the STX and I loved it.
2.7?
Me too. Best looking F-150 on the road. I got my 2020 STX crew 5.0 in velocity blue about two months ago. Turns alot of heads.
I got the 5.0L V8 4X4
Should I buy an stx?
If you want just the 8” SYNC 3 and a center console but don’t want power seats, dual climate control, and a rear sliding window, then yes. It just depends on what you want and how much you are willing to pay between the STX and the XLT.
STX is the better value when buying new. 1-owner 2019 lariat is way better deal than both
SYNC 3 Sucks though...My APIM just went out and my Explorer is just out of warranty. Ford told me to pound sand....$1,200 at my local Ford Stealership...
3 words - air conditioned seats.
@david
You need cooled seats with leather, cloth seats are comfy all the time
I appreciate the time you spent to explain this in great detail. I’m looking for a truck in the next 12 months or so and your experience makes things clear.
Very excited for this series of trim levels!
Glad to hear that!
I have to say this is one of the best videos I’ve watched from an informational standpoint. Coming from someone who despises the whole car buying process and for the most, not all, personalities of the car salesmen I think I would actually enjoy dealing with young man whether we worked a deal out or not.
I got the STX and it gave me what i needed. With the money i saved i pimped it out the way i want it.
I’m in Texas and I just bought this 2019 the weekend before last just because of this video, went with the 2019 stx velocity blue with the 2.7.
Your video was awesome, thank you for going into all the details
I really like these F-150s because of the column shifter and the old fashioned ignition.
Thank you for the candid video.
Brother, super helpful video! Thank you so much! I have been considering these two for my purchase, and you answered tons of questions for me. I really appreciate it. STX, here I come!
I got my '19 STX for 39k out the door taxes and fees included. Cant beat that.
I got my 19 xlt 302A fully loaded out the door for 38k at the beginning of January.
What you put down?
@@jordanemch1274 I went in today for a 19 but they didn't have one in abyss gray. They had a 2020 302a fx4, tow package and bigger gas tank than standard... They were wanting 47.8k out the door. I thought it was a little high?
I paid $36k factory to dealership 19’ 4 door STX FX4 5.0 V8
I’m a simple person. So STX for me
Bought one in October. Great truck, you won't be disappointed
Christopher Greenwald bought one today I love it
Christopher Greenwald I’m looking at a f150, how’s it been for you?
Bought my stx in August 2019..very happy with my purchase. I get lots of compliments
I just got a 2020 STX FX4 and i do not regret it one bit awesome truck.
I like the STX grill as well. I have a 2017 Lariat that I love, but I like that Honeycomb grill on the STX probably better than any other grill on the F150s.
What a great comparison. You are great. I have a 2019 F150 XLT 302A with the sport package and pano roof. Got the Coyote 5.0! Love it.
Never knew what STX was. Thanks for that. Also, the starting prices are just absolutely ridiculous. Just price them right to begin with without all the goofy 'discounts'.
No idea if you keep reading the comments but your video made me buy one here in Puerto Rico. Thanks for the transparency
That's awesome! Thanks for watching
That Katzkin interior upgrade is awesome!
What I love on the Sport are the tire treads in the seat,,
Thank you so much,
Marvin C.Bazemore
You can add the door code key pad on the STX for $135.00. I know this because I had them put it on my 19 STX. My STX was $33,900 with the keypad, bed liner sprayed in and My front side windows tinted. Mine is equipped with the 2.7 It also came with the front buckets and center console.. I love it
Tom Phipps where can you find the key pad modification? I got the 19’ 5.0 FX4 wasn’t settling for the 2.7 had to go to multiple dealerships and haggle.
I have XLT full black and I love everything about my baby, the GPS is great, the back ladder an extra, thank you for your great video.
Never understood why power seats weren’t standard lol
@@coachbeam3600 same. I have since got rid of that STX for a Lariat, but c’mon, aren’t we in a time where at least making power seats standard is a viable option? Lol.
@@milkman1026 hahaha! Literally! I’m looking for a Lariat for that reason (not that the XLT doesn’t have it); just a few more features I’d like since we travel so much for games.
Lol.
This is the best car sales guy I've come to know. Bought 10 vehicles over the years. Nobody came close to him
Love a honest salesperson 👍🏼
Bought my stx in August 2019. Great truck. Looks cool and performs well. I got so many compliments. I love my truck because I can take my family along with me wherever I go.
I have a 18 STX FX4 5.0 crewcab 6 1/2 bed with 15k miles. Mint. I love it. Torn on if I should buy it out after lease 31k or lease another one. Only problem is a engine tap ‘sounds like a diesel’. Thanks for the video. Best I’ve seen in a long time. Happy new year
So 5,200 for power seats, navigation and a step up to get in the bed, led lights in the bed and gear shifter in the center instead of on the collar. I just don't see any value going with the XLT. Did I leave something out?
Yes, you did leave something out
Mitchell, correct me if I am wrong but cant you add factory remote start, to an STX through forscan?
I have a 2017 f150 STX and I love it gives me enough bells and whistles without being a spaceship, lol. And I completely agree about being able to use your phone as your GPS. It makes it so much easier. Also the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 has plenty of power for towing, highway use, etc. I absolutely love mine. Thank you for a great video.
I dunno why but of any type of key to have I love the switch blade keys. I just enjoy playing with them.
It’s amazing that by having to use a key to start your vehicle now makes it such a hassle, smh..
My dad currently has a 1998 F-150, its my goal to to buy him a recent model year F-150. Hopefully I can do it in a few years. Very great video, love how nonchalant this guy is lol
Thanks for the informative video, been a fan of Town and Country TV for a while, that said I will stick with 2018 F150 STX. Thanks again for all your great work. Signed a very happy STX owner. (:
Live in PA, have clients in AL, perhaps I’m stopping here for a new vehicle. Great video, production, and review. Well done!
Thanks buddy for your awesome review. I am planning to buy a truck and your review make my life easier to choose from. keep going you are doing a great job.
Are vinyl floors still available in the STX?
I like the STX package myself. As long as the 5.0 V8 is an option, 4wd and the 10 speed automatic is an option as well.
I really like your honesty. When trucks become available, I’m going to buy from you.
give this boy a prize for speaking and give you a tour of the Ford trucks explain and say the differences between the Ford trucks very good explanation👍👍
Xlt. They are just right. Not too many options but some of the most important to me. Those higher trim levels are nice but too many gadgets and electronics that can fail. Currently in my second xlt superduty and love it.
Is there a difference between headlights on the STX and XLT. You mentioned halogen on the STX but nothing on the XLT
Looking forward to this next video. I hope it's a 502a package Lariat!
Mitchell is it better to buy off the lot or special order? Does special orders not get the discounts?
I love these type of videos. Keep up the good work Mitchell!
Any news on the new 2021 F-150?
I picked up XLT 5.0 and love it - has best options of any trim level. STX isn’t bad either.
Wish I would have seen this video and been less impulsive before I bought my XLT two weeks ago. Nice work
(I know cause I test drove em and only higher trim levels offer, that’s why we choose our F150)
In the end we shall see if they last as long as our 50 year old trucks that still run down the highway at 70mph.
Just curious, how is that 2.7 working for you? I'm looking at a 2018 with a 2.7. Thank. You
@@millardthomas9059 It's been great. I haven't had one problem with it. That 2.7 is one sweet, smooth running engine. If not for the tach gauge you would think the engine is not running when you're sitting at a stop light. Im a big fan of turbos, and as long as they are properly taken care of, which is very simple, they are trouble free.
My head stopped spinning after watchimg this! Very good explanation sir.
Dont know about 19 & 20 but when purchasing my 18 the only way to get a sliding rear window was the XLT w/power equipment and same for the remote start. So that and some other small things made the XLT necessary for me.
I would buy this truck for one reason, just the column shifter
Absolutely agree....I love the storage .....it’s a truck the shifter needs to be on the column
That is my gripe about some of the xlt’s. I can’t stand the fold down center counsel. I know you can option for one without and get the column shifter though.
THANK YOU for this video from Lucedale Mississippi. Starting my shopping this week. Looks like the dealers STILL want too much for the new AND used trucks in the middle of the corona virus
I agree with other comments. I live in Texas and if I'd have seen this first, I'd drive to Alabama and buy a truck from this guy; very honest!
Thank you for the great information you have provide, I have searching for a video that would break it down by taking your time giving the great detail.
I'm coming to see y'all next Friday (day after Thanksgiving) Richie has me on the hunt!
As always Mitchell, great job with the details of the differences with the trucks. Thank you
