What is amazing to me is that anyone would consider $50000 as affordable for a base truck
I just got done watching a video called the death of the affordable trucks. Its about the OG rangers, S10s, etc and some of their prices are below 15000-20000(in current money). I dont need a full size, but the ranger and mavrick dont come in single cab, and more money then i want to spend. For me affordable for new car is 15k-20k, and a small/mid pickup 20-25k but thats just me.
I paid $50k for a very nice older 1500sqft house, with 2 1/2 car attached garage in the midwest a year and a half ago.
...
Automotive manufacturers have lost all touch with reality.
i remember when a base XL was 8400 and everybody saying how crazy it was that a Lariat was $16k. In ten years people will say you used to be able to get these for $50k.
I agree. I only watched this video because I wanted to see the affordable price. I bought a brand new base Chevy pickup in 1974 for $2300. Now that is affordable.
$50k in 2024 is $41,400 in 2020 money. Our government is printing money and “giving money away” (read: laundering) money so fast that Americans cannot mentally keep up with the rate of inflation.
Love how were calling this a work truck and its 50k. Welcome to 2024 everyone
Smart people will buy a used tundra if they are searching for a quality 1/2 ton with a v8
This guy could sell ice to an Eskimo.
the future sucks
@@leopoldonavarro6495 it’s time we must let AI take over.
Thanks to Bidenomics, $50k for a base truck is now considered "affordable".
Votes have consequences. Enjoy!
"Affordable" sorry I love your channel and I like ford's but these should not be over 30k.
Got that right!!
Yeah, way too many features for an XL...get rid of that extra Electronic crap and drop the price by at least 10k.
SO IF YOU TRADED A VEHICLE TOMORROW, WOULD YOU EXCEPT 2024 USED CAR PRICES, OR REFUSE, AND HAVE THEM QOUTE YOU 2020 USED CAR PRICES?
You guys in 2005 where also saying a 25k work truck wasn’t affordable too
35k is the perfect price for a modern cheap truck.
Over 50k OTD for a work truck is bananas
And it's payload is not much more than the Maverick
If it's over 35K it's EXPENSIVE borderline luxury.
I'm so glad to have a 2003 F150 with 90,000 miles on it.
Paid $4000 over 7 years ago.
I think I'll keep it.
same i paid 5k for an 09 f150 King Ranch with Leather Seats 2 years ago and 35k for 2019 LT with leather seats brand new in 2019
I have a 2004 ram 2500 Cummins diesel 5’9 with a lot of miles but I bet it is going to last longer than that one
I paid 800 bucks for my 2000 f150 xlt 4x4 6 years ago and still running
I have the same that I bought recently, but paid a lot more for it. Still better than buying new though, and I can do all the maintenance myself.
Man, I’m not that old but I remember a time (10-15 years ago) when you could pick up a work truck (xl, 2wd, single cab) for $18k on clearance. Seems like an eternity ago now.
2012 single cab, short bed , 4x4 HEMI Express with the nice 20 inch rims and tall tires that actually fill up the wheel wells. 26,000 . A year ago about 45, 50 and Ram doesn't even make a short bed , single cab pickup truck any longer after 2023.
Prices are out of control. Before things went crazy, a dealer in my area was selling 2019 F150 XLTs regular cab 8ft bed with the 5 liter V8 for $26K out the door at the end of 2019 when they were trying to get rid of them for the new year. Ford no longer makes an XLT with an 8ft bed but the last model year it did that truck was around $42K. The barebones XL should not have all of this equipment standard. Give it manual windows, analog cluster, no screen at all, backup camera mandated by law built into the rear view mirror, cheap $50 tail lamps that use 80 cent standard bulbs, etc. The price could drop significantly with cutting of electronics and tech.
Although I would like manual windows, the days of manual windows and analog instrumentation are long gone and never returning. Everything in the drive train is controlled by digital computer modules to try to squeeze out every last mile per gallon. Many parts are plastic to save weight. The F-150 went to mostly aluminum for the body to save weight. It isn't only Ford making these changes either.
Your preaching to the choir but they are all senior citizens. Simplicity left the barn long ago. What millennial is going to buy a new truck that doesn't have all this electronic crap and heaven forbid the flat screen is perceived as an inch too small or it takes an extra millisecond to connect to their phone? Are you kidding, they would be totally flummoxed by a window crank.
Yep, prior to recent years price gouging/pre Covid, I could find extended cab new XLT 4x4s for $28k. The 4 door XLTs 4x4 were $30-34k depending on package. Prices have come down some recently but XLT 4x4s are still $55k and XL 4x4 with the STX package/not bare bones, are $44k
I bought one of those 2019 4x4 long bed f150’s for $26,500, but it was an xl with the 3.3 6 cylinder.
I just bought my 2020 off lease as the same truck is 24k more since my 2020 purchase. That is insanity, and as a long-time Ford owner, I am entertaining other brands.
They're all the same at this point.
@@WSmith-ne5ks so true
Almost $50k for a work truck? Yep still buying used
Which you probably would have 30 years ago too, the new price is irrelevant.
@@calebmelton5989 how is the new price irrelevant? The value for the consumers is not there for baseline truck that cost $50,000. Thus, it has forced a large consumer base to look at used options which has everything to do with price. I literally just bought a used work truck for this very reason. The value for that XL 2024 F150 just isn’t there for most.
Thanks to Bidenomics, $50k for a base truck is now considered "affordable".
Votes have consequences. Enjoy!
I have a 2000 Ranger extended cab with a six foot bed. Built like a tank with the 3.0 Vulcan engine. Well maintained inside and out. Gets 17-23 mpg. I’ve done regular maintence and redid the front end and shocks a year ago. No way am I paying $40,000 plus for a truck. That’s insane.
I want a 6 cyl, 2wd, 8 foot bed, manual trans, vinyl seats/floors, power nothing, am/fm radio, halogen headlights, analog speedometer, no taillight radar, no backup camera, basic work truck dammit!!!😠😢
But then they would have to sell 6 to make what they make off of one .LOL
And no start/stop! Greedy bastards will never make a truck like before! In-line 6! 3-speed manual!
You can almost get this in a Toyota Tacoma with a 6ft bed option, but the older Tundra also comes in a v6 (or v8) and either a 6ft or 8ft bed. Both trucks have manual options too. Obviously it might be harder to find one with all your criteria, but I’ve been happy with both of my Tacomas so far.
@@melvinleroy9451 I was going to get a Tacoma but they have changed to a turbocharged V6 this model year. It doesn't matter what brand it is, turbocharged engines wear out faster than naturally aspirated ones. I tried to buy a naturally aspirated 2023 Tacoma but none of the local dealers would sell for less than $2,000 over MSRP.
And the MSRP would be $38,500 in 2024. 💵
Listening to him talk so enthusiastically about this truck I was wondering if he might have been a salesman. Then he went on to confirm that he actually was a salesman. 😁
My 2019 F:150 with the 2.7 was loaded for that year. And the same price as this base model. Freaking nuts they want $50k for a base and $70k for a loaded XLT
I want a manual transmission and manual roll down windows, no radio,no a/c, for $15,000 the most 💯🙏
They also got rid of the basic non turbo v6 motor
You can have exactly that, but it will be 40yrs old
I think they are playing on our supposed fear that ev truck's are taking over the market and because of that they think we are stupid enough to pay twice as much for a basic truck..
Big mistake I think.
You'll need a time machine to take you back to 2006 except no manual available.
You’re gay! 🎉💯🙏🏼
Still too much crap, basic XLT like we had in the 90's. AC, PS, PW, PD, PB, 4x4, Cloth seats, bright appearance - done!
😪😪
You can buy a 2017-2021 truck in the 35k range. there is no need to buy new these days. 50k for a base work truck that doesnt even have a full 4 doors is the biggest automotive travesty of all time
This one didn’t even have a bed liner.😆
Imagine willingly buying a pickup in 2024 and not buying a crew cab short bed.
Don’t need four doors with a 4-5 foot bed. Not ever! An extended cab the size of my 2000 Ranger is all I need. I am single and have another vehicle to take people around in that gets 40+ mpg. That’s all I need.
@@garytorresani8846 you missed the whole point. Its the fact that this configuration is 50k. I don't care about personal needs or preference, this configuration shouldn't be nowhere near that price
@@AP-wm6en I totally agree with you and got your point. $50,000 for this truck is a travesty when it was much less 4 or 5 years ago. Let alone the $60,000 + they get for trucks now. Heck, some of these trucks are more than I paid for my house.
Finally a tailgate that isn't afraid to drop like a real truck.
Ford sells a damper kit for it $80 or so.
Yeah Keep dropping your tail gate and eventually it'll break or dent
@@son1gohan I own a 2010 Ford F-150 STX super cab. The tailgate hasn't broken on me yet. Also I don't know what you drive but I'm not going to cry over a dent on the tailgate.
@@thedrunkgamer8136 I drive a 2018 F-150, am not going to cry about a dent either, but when you pay 40,000 dollars for a truck, it's better if a dent isn't there. I understand! it's a truck, it's supposed to take a beating and be put to work, But can't we agree these are expensive machines, and shouldn't take unnecessary abuse.
I hate when my wife drops my tailgate, it shakes the whole truck. But of course she doesn't care because she didn't pay for it.
No the digital dash is a bad idea. If it fails then all the instruments are gone.
😪😪
I agree, always liked analog dials. Digital dash looks cheap and bland.
😪😪SHOULD'VE COPIED EITHER GM'S OR RAM'S ONE
It’s crap
the XLT and STX have gotten so many upgrades for their standard items, the Lariat is basically a luxury truck.
The Dodge Dumpster was Phenomenal!!!! 😂👏👊🏻💥
Great Job Mitchell
🤪🤣👊
Priced out an affordable truck for me similar to this one. $52000, Ford, keep it. I'll drive my 250000 mile truck until the wheels fall off, and then I'll fix it. The last new Ford I bought blew a head gasket at 7000 miles.....
10 years ago this was a $25k truck.
Everything was half the price 10yrs ago...
You mean 6 years ago. 4 years ago you could get that truck in regular cab for $20,000
i’ve been a lariat and above type of person but i think now ima go for a xl with katskin leather on seats
This guy looks fun to be around
Crazy that single cab 4x4 5.0 trucks sell. everyone wants a drag race track
Truck not track lol
crazy how in 2019 people were shocked at how the new ram 1500 limited cost 65k. Now people are paying 65k for used trucks with 50-100k miles
Do you accept X-Plan on all trims or just some? Would love to get a Tremor or Raptor (either F-150 or Ranger)?
Back in 2003, a new F-150 XL could be bought for $23,000 OTD. I never thought it was affordable. But, by today's standard, it was practically given away for free.
In 2021, I picked up a 2018 F150 XLT with the 5.0, 4x4, and 38k miles for 31k OTD. 50k is absolutely INSANE for a base model truck. Id buy a Maverick for the commuting I do now but I could never replace my truck for what I paid!
Cool review, thanks for showing all the features you get on an XL. I assume the gear shifter goes to PARK automatically when you open the door to get out on that (like the XLT you showed did)? I assumed the XL had halogens, so it is a surprise to see LED reflectors instead. I wonder how much those cost to replace if and when they fail or burn out? I know those rear tail light assemblies are notoriously expensive to replace, since you also have that blind spot monitor module to also replace (if you got damage to the thing, etc.).
I bought the XL 7.2kw Powerboost in Antimater Blue.
2 options : fog lights and tow package.
2 wheel drive and getting 30+ MPG in town
What year is it? Just curious. And how are you liking the power?boost
@musicovermyhammond9994 2022 .
I love it... you can leave the AC or heat on , without truck running , while shopping.
It can run my house during power outages .
430hp-570lb tq is awsome for towing.
50 grand for a damn-near base model? The prices have gone from absurd to hilarious. Good luck. When my 2020 f150 shits the bed I’m just gonna go to auctions and pay the mechanics the difference to make it work 😂
I just bought a 2023 STX XL 4x4 and it came with the large wheels. Can I get black steelies for it?
That wide opening back door is a wonderful idea. I'm always getting myself trapped between the doors of my older F150 in parking lots.
I bought a 2006 xl 4.2 for 16400 with bedliner and tint. The world is insane. I drive a 2003 I paid 10k for in 2008 with 227xxx and I am grateful
Perfect truck to customize and make your own, like I did with my 2021 ranger xl
Great review. Thanks
SuperCab/ExtCab is available on XL STX & XLT correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm old enough to remember my dad bought a ford ranger xlt back in 1972 in 1973 it cost 4200.00 u/s dollars, now good luck with trying to buy a truck now, really when a vehicle cost as much as house.
$4200 then is almost 32k today, a Ranger is right in this ballpark for lower trims........
I bought my 2019 F250 6.7 for $53K new and this truck in $48,900. Wow. That industry has gone off the deep end.
Driving this exact truck for work right now. A/c just went out and it has 400 miles! Its brand new. Its 95 degrees in south fla. Needless to say i will not be buying a ford!
Ever since my first 10th gen F-150 I've always loved the regular cab. It's the ultimate single guy ride. Extended cab though is really for grandpops and his camper.
Happy to see the egular cab is making a coneback. I take it leather and manual tranny isn't available in this trim?
10ish years ago saw a F-150 workey was 17k new no power widows regular cab an bed air ,auto steal wheels no 4wdrive was nice
For $45k you can get a fully loaded Honda Ridgeline. Yes, it's not a full-size truck, but if you aren't a contractor and don't need to tow anything heavy it's really all most of us need. Much better resale & reliably too.
I have a 2013 XL single cab. The original MSRP was $26k and included $2k of options like alloys and SYNC. The 2024 XL is $39k as a stripper. Now that’s inflation.
Cars from the 80’s and 90’s who’ve already got digital gauge clusters
👁️👄👁️
If I bought this, I would upgrade the wheels, get fog lights, mud flaps. Then take it to a muffler shop so that they can reconfigure the tail pipe so that it isn't as visible.
Interested in a standard cab 4x4 supercharged, lowered and some other goodies to complete it.
One question. Is having a center storage space in the arm rest optional?
you sir can sell ! awesome presentation, I like seeing your vid's.
this happens to be my favorite setup for what I need it.
btw I like the digital gauge idea, but having it show a 4dr regardless of what color or door trim your getting is just as annoying as the auto start / stop feature, would happily trade em both for a proper bed / fender linear ...
p.s. it's still on my very short list for next truck i'm buying 😍
Would love to see a walk around of the platinum and king ranch. Thanks.
I think it’s cool how they put the front seat belts on the back doors like they did in the 99-04 f150
Awesome
In 2030 I’m buying it used haha. Looks excellent
My 03 has over 402,000 and still going,,, 4.2 liter 5 speed manual everything
Does this trim come in a crew cab?
As long as it has the rubber flooring. Even if I ordered an upmarket truck, I’d spec the rubber floor. Sweep and wipe, no vac. A set of step up running boards would also be nice.
Looks nice, I bought a 23' STX with the 2.7 Ecoboost because they sold the 5.0 I was gonna get, and I love it. The first test drive when I drove it (@Tomball Ford TX.), it really threw me back in the seat, so I went ahead and picked, the one I got now. The 5.0 I wanted was area 51 blue, and mine is Atlas blue, which I preferred that color over the area 51, but wanted the V-8 that was the only V-8 in stock at the time and new, but sold before I got there. So I didn't get the engine I wanted at the time, but got the color I wanted instead, and have no regrets now as the 2.7 got plenty under the hood lol. Oh Compacted graphite block is the same material as the 6.7 Powerstroke, that is why it is insanely powerful for such small cubic inches and takes a lot of boost. 325 HP and 400 FT LBS of Torque out of 2.7 liters is great for that small engine.
Too bad the 2.7 has a rubber belt running the oil pump inside the engine bathed in oil. Oil and rubber don't mix and it requires going in past the timing chains to get to. Not sure on the service interval recommend by ford but I'd guess 100k maybe 150k. I'd trade it before it gets out of warranty if I were you. Not to mention theses gas turbo engines just don't have the longevity or reliability of their naturally aspirated counterparts.
@@georgiadronefootage4136 Well on that note, the belt is actually Kevlar not rubber, and the block is extremely overbuilt using a material that is used in the diesel turbo's called compacted graphite so I think it will be alright.
I would honestly take the 2.7 over the current gen 5.0. They ruined that engine with the cylinder deactivation, direct injection, and the oil consumption issues from the welded cylinder surface. I have a 2015 with the 5.0 with 175000 trouble free miles on it and I love it. Anything post 2018 though I wouldn’t get a 5.0. My dad and best friend both have 2018s with the 2.7 when they added the port injection back to it and it has been zero issues for them. The 2.7 is a pretty old proven block design. I don’t like the belt driven oil pump either, but that’s what it is so there isn’t much you can do. It is not true that rubber and oil don’t mix. I have a degree in rubber engineering. Kevlar and nitrile rubber are not affected by gas or oil. Rubbers like natural rubber and EPDM would definitely be broken down by oil, but those aren’t something a belt would be made out of. Think of the fuel hoses at the gas station that hold up to gasoline. That is a point though that belts wear out so it will remain to be seen how well those hold up. I think the days of being able to buy a new truck with a simple naturally aspirated engine are pretty much over sadly.
How tall is the cab, Did Ford shorten the cab, fluff the seats,
Thank You
Do they make a truck without all the “driver assist “? It failed on our transit in 6 months, it would also follow any line on the road, so it self drove us off the road, digital dash in our 23 f150 quit working before the first oil change. My 18 f150 is perfect besides it dings at me over every little thing too much.
I've disabled both the lane assist and the collision detection. I just dont trust it with when it's kicked in, and on slick roads in winter I don't want it turning or braking like that. I HATE all digital dashes, they should be outlawed. I love to have extra info on a side screen like in my 2019 Ranger but I don't want to lose the screen and not be able to see speed or make setting changes. Why put all your eggs in one basket, rather have an analog or two and maybe one info screen for more info.
This truck is about 15 to 20 thousand over price
If I were in the market for a new truck, the Ford F-Series would be at the top of the list.
Personally I like the older truck much more as I bought one also I have and I love the doors on this truck it gives a sportier look and gives you a larger.
Bed.
My 2010 Sierra has the extended cab suicide doors that swing out 180 degrees -and I love them! I'm so glad Ford is still making them. It makes loading my folding electric bikes in the backseat so much easier than 4 traditional doors.
You know, there’s this thing behind the cab that would hold those bikes with ease. Just saying.
Agreed, if it weren't being used for our 5th wheel. My point was how convenient it is to not have the door frames in the way.
Custom crewcab silverados are stickered at 47515 which gives 4 full doors and they don't have work truck rims
Reduce the unnecessary extras, would make it cheaper.
Still looking forward to seeing more of the red sleeper truck content
Im happy with the grill lights and tail lights style The new metals dotn rust like the old 90 or 01s
I plan on getting a 250 xl with the chrome apperaance package its basically a xlt and the rims look alot more 250 rim than what they have on the xlt’s now
wow i remember buting my 93 F150 ,300 6 cyl 5 speed manuel trans ,no Ac ,vent Windows, with a bed cap for around 18 thousand, 50 thousand for a base truck now 😅
that is $10k more than I paid for a 1988. That's a price DOUBLE in five years. It's not something new.
Well I hope that ford never goes away from the V8 I bought a brand new Ford F-150 in 1997 with a 4.6 V8 and I've still got it only has 41,000 miles on it all I drive is Ford and I look forward to seeing V8 options for many years to come
My 2010 F150 STX 4x4 sticker price was $ 35,000.00 …. Times and prices certainly have changed ! And yes I’m still driving my STX super cab !!!
Had 2 lariats and a limited. Did small mods to each. Most expensive was 64k. That was 2016, sold
It in 23’. Never had one problem. Went to spec a replacement after and for a 4x4 Lariat and the sticker was 110k. When I heard “supply chain” I laughed for an hour.
Ludicrous.
The question becomes is paying a high interest rate, high gas prices and dealing with the potential error code getting thrown justify the cost? Ford also makes an F250 base model, and that is a “work truck”.
Regardless, this is another outstanding video. Wish I could come there and purchase my next Ford, but living in this west coast nanny state they make it nearly impossible to bring trucks in out of state…..
My 2013 f150 5.0 platinum 4x4 was 53k brand new
can you still get the 3.3 n/a engine? $48k is still a bit much.
Reg. Cab short box is what I like . Coyote and ten speed
I was in Texas and the Ford dealership offered me a 2024 Ford F-150 STX TRUCK V6 EcoBoost for $39,500. I declined and decided to wait until the price drops to around $37,000.
I like this truck a lot. It’s got basically everything I want in a truck. I am getting used to the new grill. It’s got 4 wheel drive, a rear locking differential, a tow package, front recovery hooks, the 170 degree opening rear suicide door feature and a v8 engine. I don’t like the $50k price, but that is what they are charging now. So pay it or leave it. I would probably opt for a regular cab over this double cab.
50k holy moly that’s a ripoff
What’s the payload ?
If I wanted a full-size truck, that's the one I would buy. Really love the v8 with beautiful steel wheels.
Agreed. I just wish they still did the white letter Goodyear Wranglers, they looked nice with the steelies. Also, vinyl seats are a must for me, so much easier to clean.
It should be cool to watch a review of a 2024 f150 police
What ever happened to the extended cab with the 8 foot bed? That was the build I wanted to go for but its gone now. A little disappointing.
Great way to make a tail light lens cost stupid money.
This truck is pretty delux. If you can get this on sale for closer to $40k+ it will be a steal.
New Tacomas are $40k-$60k.
Do a deep dive on the lariat!
On the way! 🫡
Seems okay except for the wheels. Choose between this and the Nissan Frontier.
At least they brought back the standard V-8. But that should be starting at 28,000 and fully decked out 32.000 maybe….
Those times are long gone
@@fidoramavision6823 long gone along time ago, reality hits some harder than others
I'll be interested when I can get it with a third pedal and two sticks on the floor to go with the 3.5TT Until then, my 2012 is as new as I go. 220,000 and still going on the OG drivetrain.
Nice brother!
as a GM owner and loyal customer that is a really impressive base model truck, was surprised actually
The 300+ HP Nissan Frontier (non-turbo) is a nice, affordable truck.
From a guy who has a $91,000 Bronco raptor i guess almost 50G is acceptable for a XL, not for me 10G overpriced at least IMO
There’s a lot of moments that need to be fast-forwarded in this one. This video is for people that have never seen a truck before 😂 not only do the back wheels turn, it also comes with doors! Hahahaha
People are upset about prices on vehicles. Prices are up for all trucks. It's ridiculous but isn't just Ford. Economics and the shift to EV being subsidized by truck owners is infuriating.
I got a 24 5.0 and really hope Whipple gets that supercharger out for these asap.
I paid 38k for a fully loaded xlt in 15' these prices are too high. Anything over 40k is too high. I'm keeping mine for life at this rate.
14:40 why does the screen say if you have a manual transmission? You cannot get a manual transmission in a newer F-150 I've looked it don't exist am I missing something?
The software is universal across multiple vehicles and you can get a manual in the Mustang, hence why you see it mentioned there.
@@TheTommyCraft oh ok makes since i really appreciate the info i should have realized it was Universal I have a manual transmission Mustang just didn't think about it thanks bro🫡
$50K for a 1/2 ton truck alone is ridiculous, but even more so for an XLford. Has the world gone bonkers.
At these prices I guess I'll be riding my 2022 Maverick until it qualifies for antique tags.
