A way to find out what amount of ease you like is to measure garments you already have and compare them to your actual body measurements. Also, different parts of the body can have different amounts of ease based on the design. I like a good bit of ease at my waist and hips, a smaller amount of ease on my upper arms, and not much ease at the full bust. I like my shoulders and upper bust to fit.
I would like to knit a pullover sweater for myself. I am apple shape and very overweight. Have u learned ways to accommodate this kind of shape? I would think I would add stitches on the side but I don't know where to start and how to progress with increases. Can u give me some instruction? Thank u.
Carrie is absolutely correct - Amy Herzog's 'Knit to Flatter' has a great section on adjusting patterns for different body shapes. I'd still start with measuring to fit your upper bust (that under the armpit measurement) and some ease to get the base size you should knit. Then you would add shaping to the stomach area just as you would for a large bust - with short rows or by adding increases at the sides. It would take a lot to explain it all in detail here so I definitely recommend Amy Herzog's book as a great resource for those kinds of adjustments.
Hi Tonia, thanks for the mention! You came up with some great ideas for profitable knitting too! Happy knitting 🧶
Hi, Hannah! So nice to 'meet' you!
That upcycle yarn looks so fluffy knit into that cowl. What a pretty neck-warmer for your daughter.

Great points, Cindy!
thank you for the good report!
It's not selfish to knit for yourself! Especially if no one else in the family knits.
