- Those of us who served in SOG didn’t just magically wake up one morning and find ourselves in a life-or-death gunfight in Laos. For many of us how we got there is almost as interesting as what we did when we got there. This is my story.

Could listen to this all day
That's great to hear! Thanks
@@DawsonsWar same here. When at Bragg do you remember what neighborhood you lived in? Did you have children in school at that time? I'm the stepson of an sfer and we lived in Collage Lakes. Thanks.
@@SerfsR-WE I lived on Woodburn Drive, off Honeycutt Road, east of the All American Highway. The house I rented backed up to the Fort. No kids. I was 20 years old. It was 1967.
@@DawsonsWar right around the corner. I've got to get new phone and I will get back with you and share S.F. Rug Rat stories from 60s.
need longer videos
Everting you did and endured over there does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. At least not by me.
Thank you.
@@DawsonsWar FYI: ordered your book.
@@DawsonsWar Same for me...AND THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING TO MY LENGTHY NOVELS I posted to other videos. Perhaps it's my generation or the way I was raised but I sincerely feel a kinship with Combat Veterans particularly of Vietnam, Korea and WWII...perhaps it's due to having family members serving and while I have experienced combat myself there is still something...words can not explain...reverence I have for men such as yourself. I still haven't figured out about my Uncle but will be visiting him in a couple of months for his 81st Bday...I desperately want to ask him about what occurred or simply where and who he served with but I also would feel guilty considering as I've stated before, our family has always had a "Don't Ask" policy regarding family members that have been downrange and especially if wounded and or were POWs (2 Great Uncles were POWs in Germany...both were pilots, B-24 and B-17...one on my mother's side and one on my father's side)... I literally try to imagine but as you have said, even for those my age and much younger that have experienced more combat than most....I could not imagine enduring what the young men did during WWII, Korea or Vietnam...God Bless You and Thank you for sharing. Take Care...
Thank u sir, there’s not enough thanks in the world for what you and your brothers left over there.
Thanks for watching.
I would love to hear more about Mike Sheppard, Mad Dog Shriver, Franklin Doug Miller, and all the Strap- Hangers.
Great Job. Could listen to this all day.!!!!!
Thanks. For more try: sogsite.com/
I'm a Vietnam Vet and I just found out that today the 29th of March 2024 is Vietnam Veterans Day , "wow" how wonderful to keep it such a quiet secret , to show as usual that our government and media don't want to bring attention to it or us !!!!!
WELCOME HOME MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS !!!!!!
Of course it is Good Friday , one of the most Holy day of the Year and of course Sunday marking the resurrection of our Savior Lord Jesus Christ !
Vietnam Vet Tom
You're not the only one. Seen it on my American Calendar and had never heard of it. Guess no one else has either. To me its all to little to late. Don't want any one saying welcome home, Hell I have been home 55 years.
I listen to this all day at my construction job. Fascinating stuff for sure.
born in ‘66 to an old EOD Marine it always confused me - and later angered me - to hear the stories of how vets were treated by an ungrateful nation upon there return to the states. For guys like yourself, I am glad to see this latest generation’s appreciation for the time you spent in service to this nation AND the newly found celebrity you most surely deserve - you all deserved! Only wish pop lived to see it. -cheers
Another excellent video.
Thanks again!
Definitely a good listen !!
Great story!
Thank you. 👍
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Thank You for all you sacrificed and pain you've endured, Welcome Home! I'd love to buy a version of your book in audio form read by you if possible.
🇺🇸
Recognised that passage and enjoyed listening to it. Very good. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it and read the books. Thanks
Really enjoyed this
Thanks. Good to hear that.
Thank you! Just ordered a paperback copy of your book. Looking forward to reading!
Thank you. Hope you enjoy it.
Great story, you guys were right next to my battalion
Glad you enjoyed it and made it home.
This is the best TH-cam channel I’ve come across in years. Thank you for this sir this is very very interesting. Where can I find more detail about Oscar 8 and the multiple times yall tried to invade it? Quite insane story there.
Palace guard😂 I love it!
Awesome stories Dawson !!!
Ordered your book today . I'm looking forward to it.
Thanks. And thanks for watching.
@@wyomarine6341 Thanks. I'm getting up there in years. This one came out pretty good. I think I'll quit while I'm ahead.
I just finished your book a second ago...you're right I'm gonna miss those guys. I really liked it. Ranks right up there with "All Quiet on the Western Front".
Thank you. That's quite a compliment. Please share it with Amazon reviews. Glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent!
Glad you liked it!
@@DawsonsWar
As a young Ranger, you guys were my mentors!
@@Stoney_AKA_James Know a Sgt John Allen? Betty Boop tattoo on hisforearm.
@@DawsonsWar
I'm not familiar with that name.
My first platoon leader was Lt. E. Bargewell, first platoon sergeant was SFC Thompson, squad leader was SSG Kleinbacker, team leader was Sgt Smith.
@@Stoney_AKA_James There is a picture of Sgt Eldon Bargewell and me in one of my videos. We served together at FOB 1 and CCN. He retired as a general.
ordered up the book thanks
Hooah Sir!
ship dipping at it's best
I was at cam rahn too. Only I was more fortunate than you guys, I was Air Force, C-130's TDY out of Japan.
The first shots I heard in Vietnam were 153 Katushkyas rockets landing.😊
Damn really?
Sounds like story time 😮
Read 'Soldier's Heart: An Inquiry of War' by Lee Burkins, a SOG Sergeant and One Zero team leader at CCC.
Thank you 🐓☠️🚬🗡️
Thanks for watching.
What's with the beach pictures?
Any chance this book will come out on Audible?
No, sorry. After just recording this 3,000 word video I sure can't record the 93,000 word book. Paying someone to do it would have me eating cat food.
You should make it an audio book
I know.
@@DawsonsWar or make it part of your patreon on somehow and upload it to TH-cam… I’d pay for it right away bc I I’ve scoured the web for any other audio clips and there isn’t another SOG book like yours (that I could find)
Did anyone find remains of Jerry ( Mad Dog ) Shriver ?
No they did not. Thanks for watching.
You may have known my father, SM Stephen Joseph, MACV SOG 68-69.
No I didn't. He was at CCC while I was at CCN. I've seen some of his memorabilia displayed on the web.
@@DawsonsWar thank you for your response and for your exceptional service. His last couple of years was complicated with memory loss and during that time a pawn owner came to his house and basically stole most all of his memorabilia. He refuses to release or sell it back to the family.
Where are these stories come from? Has someone written a book you're reading from?
No, I write the script. I served with John Allen so I heard the basics of the story from him. Then I read the declassified after action report and read what John Plaster wrote about the mission in the 1990s.
@DawsonsWar Wow, they are really good.. They are like outtakes from a properly written and edited book.. I've read John Plasters' book about his time in Vietnam, and I was a huge fan of his work. This is very similar... If you can throw this script together just for TH-cam, maybe you should write a book about your own experience, make the most of that talent.. I'd like to write about my wars in Afghanistan and Ukraine but I ain't got the skills.. I'd be very interested in reading your story tho.
They could give great back massages .
They need to make a movie about these guys
Looks like we are going to have to settle for video games. Thanks for watching.
Is Kevin Bacon still here Narator ?
No one should feel sorry for these assassins. They're no different than the VC, just opposite sides of the same coin.
