This song is from the musical "Guys & Dolls". Frank starred in the movie version with Marlon Brando. I highly recommend it, one of my all-time favorite movies.
"FLY ME TO THE MOON" is required listening from Old Blue Eyes (aka Frank). Frank played the character Sky Masterson in the movie version of Guys & Dolls which is a well known Broadway musical. That song is part of that show. Pretty much every High School and Community Theater Company has done Guys & Dolls at some time.
This is the swingin' side of Frank -- my favorite side of Frank. Listen to I've Got The World On A String, The Lady Is A Tramp, & I've Got You Under My Skin to hear some of Frank's very best!!! So very, very, many, many more!!
Frank and another of your favorites, Bing Crosby, were in the film High Society together. That's where Bing and Louis Armstrong sang That's Jazz, which you loved. Frank and Bing do a great, funny number called "Well, did you eval", you should check that out. Also Frank and Celeste Holm from the same film doing "Who wants to be a Millionaire" another fun song.
Sinatra was near the peak of his powers when this was recorded. As such, he could afford the best in arrangers, orchestras, and musicians. Here it is Nelson Riddle, an absolute legend in the jazz and popular music business as an arranger and orchestrator. Sinatra would also even specify individual musicians that he wanted in the band. For example, Alvin Stoller on drums and the Candoli brothers in the trumpet section. Check out a sampling of Sinatra's earlier recordings, too. His recording of Poinicana from 1947, from his Columbia Records years, with the orchestra conducted by Axel Stordahl, for example, is a seldom-noticed gem of a recording from Sinatra's earlier years. As for Nancy Sinatra, check out her recording of "This Town," her best recording, in my opinion.

We just had our first 80-degree day this week in Phoenix AZ, so I'm thinking Frankies "Summer Wind" is in the forecast! SO MUCH MUSIC SO LITTLE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if this is still the song they use, but the last couple of times I visited Vegas, the dancing fountains at the Bellagio played this tune by Sinatra, synced up to the fountains.
Frank Sinatra acted in numerous films, plays...& of course his concerts! He was one heck of a performer! The Tender Trap with Debbie Reynolds is a comedy you might like! Guys & Dolls is a musical with Marlon Brando! It's a classic! He was just...part that era where we had so many well rounded performers! Him & Sammy Davis Jr were really good friends. There was an incident when they were suppose to perform together at a hotel where they were supposed to stay at....they said Sammy couldn't stay there! Frank told them if Sammy couldn't stay... he wouldn't stay or perform there! They quickly backed down! He never tolerated that stuff!
Frank Sinatra was actually a really good actor IMO. Von Ryan’s Express is my favorite movie of his. A few more of his songs to check out would be ‘That’s Life’ or ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin.’
If you've seen The Godfather, Johnny Fontaine - the singer - was Frank Sinatra. The horse head is what got Frank the role in the movie From Here to Eternity.
No. Not true. Johnny Fontaine was played by Al Martinez. He was cast as a Frank Sinatra-type. The horse head incident did not happen in real life. It was a film based on Mario Puzo’s novel, The Godfather, which was a bestseller at the time. The horse head incident was in the book. The character in the book was based on an Italian singer who is connected to crime families, like Frank Sinatra kind of was. His family wasn’t directly connected, but he was from New Jersey and those clubs that he started in were often mob-owned…so he had some connections. When the mob created Las Vegas strip casinos, they had difficulty getting people to come out there. They hired Frank and gave him 10% ownership in one of the Casinos, asking him to get his friends to come out and perform at the casinos. And he did. He helped build Las Vegas.
Love Frank Sinatra, but my favorite crooner has always been Tony Bennett. He was Frank Sinatra's favorite too. Frank said about him "For my money, Tony Bennett is the best singer in the business, the best exponent of a song. He excites me when I watch him - he moves me. He’s the singer who gets across what the composer has in mind, and probably a little more.”
Nothing like Frank! You could do a whole week of Sinatra reaction videos and still not exhaust all his recordings. Thank you so much for playing this selection!!
Sinatra did a wonderful song called Goin Out Of My Head. There's a live duet of the song he did on a tv show with Ella Fitzgerald. Y'all should totally check that out.
CAN'T GO WRONG WITH FRANK. TRUST ME ON "IN THE WEE SMALL HOURS OF THE MORNING," "ALL THE WAY," "IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR" AND "ONE FOR MY BABY." THESE ARE THE FRANK YOU GUYS ARE IDEALLY LOOKING FOR (AND MY FAVES AS WELL)
For female Friday, please do Sinatra with Ella Fitzgerald singing "The Lady is a Tramp" from his The Man and His Music TV special. It's two of the very best having so much fun together and it's infectious.
Frank won an Oscar for his role in "From Here to Eternity" and was in plenty of other films. In the movie, "The Godfather," the character of Johnny Fontaine was presumably based on him--since he took great offense when the book came out about that character's ties to the mob and the similarities to Frank's career.
Frank Sinatra wanted to play the part that Marlon Brando had in Guys and Dolls where he sung Luck Be A Lady. Listen to that version and you'll know how much the song was not great until Sinatra sang it later on with an orchestration based on his direction. They missed out on his singing it in the movie.
This was from a TV special "Frank Sinatra : A Man and His Music", which aired in 1966. To think that this level of entertainment was piped right into peoples' homes is mind-boggling. You should check out Frank and Ella Fitzgerald singing "The Lady Is a Tramp" from the TV special the following year ... probably the greatest moment in American television history.
Even the way he threw the imaginary dice was timed perfectly with the cymbals.! Im talking about a man who inhabited the songs he sang. Great reaction. Some artist are in a category of one. Mic drop.
This song came from a movie that Frank was in called Guys and Dolls. A story about secret gambling in the city of New York. Frank was the organizer of the gambling. Marlon Brando played a big time gambler. GREAT MOVIE. I strongly recommend watching . Lady Luck is a term used for having good luck gambling

“He did some acting!” Lol! His very first acting role in “From Here to Eternity” won him an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor. Yes he was an actor, a natural from what I gather.
Frank and Bing Crosby singing 'Well did you ever?' from the musical High Society really is a MUST 😍 MGM musicals from 50's and 60's are a rabbit hole you need to jump into....Doris Day, Gordon MaCrae, Howard Keel amazing singers and family movies you watch together ❤️
This is from the movie Guys and Dolls, which was taken from the Broadway of the same name. In the movie, Sinatra played a gambler who wooed a "nice" girl Good fun and great music!=
Frank was called the chairman of the board - like he was the boss and everyone knew when Frank spoke - you listened. He was the leader of the group called the Rat Pack in Las Vegas along with Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and The comedian Joey Bishop.
Did some acting? He won an Oscar for From Here to Eternity. When you react to The Lady is a Tramp, use the video from the movie Pal Joey. He is pure style.
He is singing to the proverbial "lady luck", because he's playing dice... He's asking her not to jump around the room between the other players... This is from the soundtrack of one of my favorite movie musicals of all time. You should definitely check it out: Guys and Dolls. Every song in it is stellar
One of Frank Sinatra's favorite style tunes to sing he referred to as "saloon songs". Usually the setting is a simple piano accompaniment and the subject matter along the lines of "the girl that got away". I had the privilege of seeing him perform live in the 80's and the saloon song you MUST hear is "One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)". You want a "vibe" - you got a whole picture painted with this song. Also, some people claim that the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper" album was the first concept album - one in which all the songs are related to each other - however, Sinatra did a series of concept albums when he was on the Capitol Records label long before. A "must hear" album is "Frank Sinatra Sings For Only The Lonely". Other incredible Capitol albums are: In The Wee Small Hours, Where Are You, No One Cares, and Close To You. Enjoy.
Thank you both. Great pick. This film I believe comes from a TV special in 1966. I've loved this clip for years. Sinatras total control. His mastery of timing and rhythm. Just love the way his "dice throws" are always bang on time with the orchestral backing. There's another wonderful clip on TH-cam from this same special of Frank singing "Moonlight in Vermont". A beautiful soulful ballad that shows Sinatra's total mastery of mood. Might be worth checking out too someday. Thanks again!
As others have pointed out, this song is from the musical "Guys and Dolls." My favorite song from that musical is "Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat." If you want to listen to that one, some research tells me that it's been covered by Don Henley and James Taylor.
Loving this! Never really spent a ton of time listening to Frank Sinatra. Thank you for introducing us!! And yes, I agree w/you Amber! I do LOVE big band music so that could a part of this.
Frank Siantra, Dean Martin, and most other crooners of that era started out in saloons and night clubs and made it to Las Vegas which gave them the experience and training on how to work and handle the audience. That's what made them such not just singers but true entrainers. To see Frank, Dean, Sammy in their true element check out the rat pack videos on you tube of them in the early 1960's performing at the old sands in Las Vegas.
Frank has DOZENS of great songs. One of my favorite recordings period is It Was A Very Good Year- they filmed the recording session too. Angel Eyes; My One And Only Love.
Frank Sinatra had an Academy nomination best supporting actor for "From Here to Eternity"; won best actor for "The Man With the Golden Arm" (among other awards/nominations). And he was in the movie "High Society", that had the Bing Crosby/Louis Armstrong song you reacted to.

And "Angel Eyes."
@@tombeyerlein3813 You know it! One of my favorites. Two of the albums I've played to death over the years are "In The Wee Small Hours" and "Where Are You?" Every track a gem!
Michael....Did you ever see that movie that Frank did with Doris Day called" Young At Heart"? He sings "One More For The Road" in that! I LOVE THAT SONG!!! And That Movie....Just Checked...it is on TH-cam! Check it out!
@@susanpolice8465 Yes, absolutely. I remember seeing "Young at Heart" a long time ago, have viewed it since and it's one of my favorite "pot boilers" from the 1950s. Good songs from Doris Day, too. :)
@@mjabqmanwk 💗🌹🌹🌹
Ohhh, Yes Frank Sinatra. This is one of my favorite songs from him. Amber, remember when you reacted to Peggy Lee, Fever?? Well Frank did a version of that as well. Check it out I think you'll Love it. Much Love from California Kat ❤
Yes, Frank was an actor also. Suggested movies, "From here to eternity", "Von Ryan's express", Manchurian Canidate".
And the man with the golden arm and oceans 11
On The Town.
Frank was a triple threat,he could sing, dance and act.
I bet you guys would love his song "setum up Joe"
Frank acted in 58 movies and won an Academy Award. He was a extraordinary dancer. Oh yeah, and Ol’ Blue Eyes could sing.
Frank Sinatra was actually a really good actor IMO. Von Ryan’s Express is my favorite movie of his. A few more of his songs to check out would be ‘That’s Life’ or ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin.’
Bobby Darins Beyond The Sea is another great oldie.
"We know he did some acting." 🤣😂 Y'all kill me! Love your reactions!
He only won an academy award for From Here to Eternity! Frank was great in Guys and Dolls and in The Manchurian Candidate, too!
“Frank is a performer as well” has got to be the most understated thing ever said. Ever.
It’s been toooo long since Ole Blue eyes. Love it. ❤️
Blue eyes 💜
More than just an actor. He won an Oscar for best supporting actor. In From here to Eternity.
WOW! We didn’t know that!
Yess, I love this Song
Suggestion:
Frank Sinatra - That's Life
Did some acting? He's won two Oscars and two Golden Globes for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.
Frankie's got it going on, kids.
Lady luck is a figure of speech jay in gambling. He just wants luck to stay with him like if luck was a lady ..Great song from a great film .Thank you
Frank Sinatra was not only a great singer, but his storytelling in each song was unreal. He’s a really good actor too.
Frank won an Oscar for his role in "From Here to Eternity" and was in plenty of other films. In the movie, "The Godfather," the character of Johnny Fontaine was presumably based on him--since he took great offense when the book came out about that character's ties to the mob and the similarities to Frank's career.
Johnny Fontaine is definitely supposed to be Frank. If you read the novel, Dean Martin is also heavily referenced.
Frankly, I think “From Here To Eternity” was one of his least worthy roles…but he was a pretty solid actor in general…
@@ChicagoDB Yeah, but that was the role and made him bankable again.
Mr. Sinatra was such a class act 🙏💜 A moment in time that doesn't come back...Sigh...
Always reminds me of the film Mrs doubtfire. Love you guys ❣️
Love you too 💜
Dude looks like a lady from Aerosmith reminds me of that movie I thought that movie was so good
This was from a TV special "Frank Sinatra : A Man and His Music", which aired in 1966. To think that this level of entertainment was piped right into peoples' homes is mind-boggling. You should check out Frank and Ella Fitzgerald singing "The Lady Is a Tramp" from the TV special the following year ... probably the greatest moment in American television history.
There will never that can compare to Frank, he’s even before my time but I love the crooner classics
Old time night club music for sure. Also his voice is smooth as silk !! My favorite crooner to be sure.
Even the way he threw the imaginary dice was timed perfectly with the cymbals.! Im talking about a man who inhabited the songs he sang. Great reaction. Some artist are in a category of one. Mic drop.
The performance you watched is from one of his TV specials.
I sang this to a girl on a balcony in Jersey one night. Less than a year later we married. [Drops the mic]. Respect Frank
Hey guys, when you get time check out Elvis Presley's...Elvis Presley - My Way (Aloha From Hawaii, Live in Honolulu, 1973) When Elvis started doing this song in all of his concerts Frank ' old blues eyes' said this is Elvis's song now.
Please do my favorite song Frank Sinatra - Night And Day. A beautiful song written by Cole Porter. Love you guys and gals. You make me and so many others smile everyday. Thank you and God Bless.
The CHAIMAN OF THE BOARD ! FLAT OUT ! Nobody sang like Frank !
Nice choice, guys! Frank is always great! A suggestion though, check out the song, "A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square", fantastic song, everybody tried it, from Frank to Nat, Bobby Darin, Vera Lynn, etc. I really think you'd dig it *especially the Nat or Bobby versions)
Was lucky to see Frank Sinatra late 70s at Universal Amphitheater .. his music is magical .. my Favs are:
Young At Heart
I’ve Got You Under My Skin
Strangers In The Night
I think in the movie it was Brando who wooed the nice girl, Jean Simmons; Frank's character was dodging marriage to a showgirl.
Frank was called the chairman of the board - like he was the boss and everyone knew when Frank spoke - you listened. He was the leader of the group called the Rat Pack in Las Vegas along with Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and The comedian Joey Bishop.
Peter Lawford was also part of the Rat Pack
@@lizmorris78 yes, Thank you!
@@MichaelBeckman you would be surprised how many people think the rat pack was only Frank Dean and Sammy. I am a huge Rat Pack fan !
Song is from guys and dolls. A play about gambling. He starred in the film! Definitely worth a watch. One of the best Broadway plays ever.
They played this during the famous fountains show at the Bellagio in Vegas in 2019, this song fits perfectly with the show!
Frank was a good actor. “Lady Luck” is a slang term from a time way before you were born. So when he says ‘luck be a lady’, that’s his reference.
A lil cool fact about me I was in a play called guys and dolls back in the day
That’s awesome Riheim!!
What role did you play? I love the movie!
Love some Frank!!!
Truly a master at his craft!!!
Dean and Sammy was right there with him also!!
All 3 great men!
No one can touch the master in the grove, The Voice the one and only Francis Albert Sinatra ❤
Sinatra"s Best Supporting Actor came for From Here to Eternity. He has never won an Oscar as Best Actor.
