He is legendary as a singer and musician and he died way too early from lung cancer at the age of 45 in 1965. His daughter Natalie Cole was a huge singer in the 80’s thru the 2000’s and did a famous duet split screen version of Unforgettable with a video of her dad. It’s a great video. Unfortunately. She passed away in December 2015. They both had the most beautiful voices. Glad that you reacted to him.
Nat King Cole had some great songs: "Smile"' "Mona Lisa", "Around the world" Some other crooners I would recommend are: Johnny Mathis - "Chances Are", "Wonderful, Wonderful" Andy Williams - "Moon River", "Born Free" "Happy Heart" Mel Tormè - "Blue Moon", "A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square" Dean Martin - "Volare"' "Everybody Loves Somebody" "That's Amoré" "Memories are made of This" Bobby Darin - "Dream Lover" "Beyond the Sea"

The duet that his daughter Natalie Cole put together so she could sing this song with her dad after he had passed away, is just fantastic. She definitely has some of her Daddys style and soul, great voice in her own right. She was only 15 when he died, so did the duet as a tribute on a release of standards on an album later in her career.
Nat not only sang, he played piano, played trumpet, played drums, broke through the tv stigma of the day! Super nice person, he left too soon, but he is, “Unforgettable”!!
It’s totally ironic but his cover of “Smile” always makes me well up with tears just because it’s so beautiful. I truly cannot recommend that one enough. I would listen to her album of his greatest hits over, and over again!😊 His daughter, Natalie Cole, was also a singer, a beautiful voice that seems her dad passed on to her😊, and she even did a virtual 'duet' with her dad on this song. Totally worth a listen.👍
That man's voice was as smooth as silk. The greatest Christmas song ever is his "Christmas Song". Next stop Sam Cooke's "You Send Me", and Johnny Mathis' "Misty"
Please react to Sam Cooke’s “You Send Me.” I have yet to watch anyone react to this first or early hit for Sam Cooke. I actually saw him perform twice while in my teens.
We attended a Natalie Cole Concert at an outdoor facility in California, where she sang this with a huge video of her dad behind her on stage singing as well. We were all in tears. It was amazing.
A true classic! So cool to see a newer generation APPRECIATE Mr. Cole's vocal gift. If I could sound like anyone who ever sang... Nat Cole would definitely be in the Top 3! BRAVO!
This song is really nice and the spliced version with his daughter Natalie is also very nice. By far my favorite Nat King Cole tune though is "It's Only a Paper Moon".
My dad loved the King. He initially ran his office out of our house, and I can remember falling asleep to the sound of Nat King Cole on his stack of records. Dad was an architect, and he said he did his best work listening to this man's voice. All I know is that nearly 70 years later, I only need to hear 2 or 3 seconds of his voice to be sent back to that perfect world, where everyone was safe, protected, and loved. One of his best is "I Wish You Love." "I wish you bluebirds in the spring, to give your heart a song to sing..." Check it out!
Nat King Cole had the most beautiful smooth voice that brings me to tears every time I hear him. Anything by him is wonderful. His daughter, Natalie Cole, was also a wonderful singer. She did a duet of this song with a hologram of him and it is incredible, might I say "Unforgettable"? He did a fantastic Christmas album and I have it on CD. I play it every year. It's not Christmas without NKC's "Christmas Song."
I’m old enough to remember him singing this on his variety show. The show lasted only one season. By the way, he was considered a master jazz piano player and preferred playing piano to singing.
His voice alone broke through racial barriers. He became widely popular on the radio. Many fans were completely hooked before they even knew he was a black man.
There weren't as many "racial barriers" in the 40's and 50's as today's racists would have you think. There was a lot of hatred and prejudice to be sure, but there's always going to be ignorance, no matter what. The anti-black mind-set in the 50's doesn't compare with the anti-white attitudes of today.
So smooth, So classy. You must hear the tribute duet his daughter Natalie does with him. His versions of "Mona Lisa" & "Stardust" also display what a great singer he was.
It would've been unforgettable to see Cole's face if someone had told him people will be watching and listening to him 65 years later on their phones 😊
All music is appreciated. I was born in 1959. So, 70s was my era, but my parents listened to all of this, so I was exposed to quite a variety. 40s and 50s music was classy. Jazz and Big Band era. Just beautiful.
I was born in1959 and feel the same way as you do. The 50s, 60s, 70s and some artists from the 80s had a lot of great artists and groups that put out great music. The only difference between then and now, is the fact that there was no such thing as auto-tune.
His voice is So Smooth! His daughter, did a beautiful version of this song with him, posthumously. It’s so wonderful to hear her voice blend with her Dad’s.
I LOVE that you two are bringing these classics to young people and they're learning to appreciate them by your reactions. Nat King Cole is amazing, his voice, his phrasing, and his class. Top notch. Thank you both for bringing this.
I was privileged to see him perform and sing Unforgettable at the "then" famous Cocoanut Grove at the Ambassador Hotel in L A. around '61 or '62. He was amazing. His daughter sings along with him updated after his death. Natalie Cole has now passed to.
There is a version of this song that his Daughter Natalie Cole did where they used footage from Nat singing so that it was a duet. So touching, it really gets you in the feels!
I used to sing this song as a lullaby to my first child as I was trying to get her to go to sleep. It became "our" song. So of course, it was the song we danced to at her wedding. Thanks for your reaction. God bless!
Looove Nat King Cole, an absolute legend, he even recorded three spanish albums so he's also a classic in spanish speaking countries. You should listen to his daughter Natalie's version, she turned this song into a duet and it's amazing, may they both rest in eternal peace
Originally, Nat Cole fronted a jazz group called The King Cole Trio and wasn't a singer at all. They had booked a gig where a singer was required. Cole said "we don't have a singer" He tried it himself, and the rest is history. He was a fabulous jazz pianist, but fate had a different plan.
After Nat died, his daughter Natalie recorded herself singing this with him posthumously. It's worth checking out. Natalie Cole and Nat King Cole Unforgettable. Edit: The live version that has 1.1 million views is by far the best version. It has sax!
Or Twelfth of never or Wild is the wind, and of course Chances are. Love Johnny Mathis, when I was a kid my mom would put Johnny Mathis on the stereo when we went bed and we all fell asleep listening to that beautiful voice drifting through the house.
"Nature Boy" by Nat King Cole is magical. Will give you chills. Try to watch the version with him accompanying himself on piano. And yes, I echo Johnny Mathis. I was performing in the same theatrical complex one night, and sneaked into the wings with another performer to watch. I recommend "The Twelfth of Never" - a gem.
@@martinlepper4522 My mother wore out Johnny's Greatest Hits so I know all those songs. They're all great. Now I must see if I can nab that album for myself. :)
One of the most beautiful voices of all time!! Mr. Cole oozed nothing but class. Even suffering the racism of the time(when he couldn't stay in the big hotels he performed at, or walk through their front entrances). No one fought with more elegance. Try "Autumn Leaves", When I Fall in Love" "Mona Lisa" and "Nature Boy". I'm glad you guys are discovering such a wealth of music 🙂
I love Nat King Cole’s voice. It’s so smooth and sultry. I could literally listen to him sing the phone book and would enjoy every second. So many great songs from him. Now y’all need to hear the female side… check out Etta James “At Last.” Would be a good one for Female Fridays.
Nat King Cole, in my view, is the epitome of gentlemanly class and style. His voice is superlative. It rises above all others. If you haven't heard it already, consider listening to the Christmas Song. Due to it's thematic content, I find the Christmas Song to be among the finest recordings of all time.
His daughter Natalie , years after his death , as a rising singer she recorded Unforgettable with his version colorized and played as if both were on stage. Their voices complement each other so well. Take the best and add some more.
His daughter, Natalie Cole was also a great RnB singer. She did a "UNFORGETTABLE" duet with her father using clips from his old footage. A great tribute to a great singer.
Even though they had different ranges and styles, they both had such smooth voices. They had a similar sound in how they sounded out the words in a pronounced but soft feel.
You should move from crooners to jazz singers: Ella Fitzgerald - Miss Otis Regrets Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit Billie Holiday - God Bless This Child Bessie Smith - Down Hearted Blues Etta Jones - Yes Sir, That's My Baby Nina Simone - I want a Little Sugar in my Bowl That should get you rolling.
Please check out the version of “Lush Life” sung by Johnny Hartman with saxophonist John Coltrane. Is truly phenomenal. The song was written by Billy Strayhorn (who was associated with Duke Ellington) when he was just 18 years old. The song is unusual and doesn’t follow a traditional song pattern but is filled with incredible lyrics and musical elements. The song, Hartman’s voice and Coltrane’s genius make this a classic not to be missed.
Yes! Totally and utterly sublime!! You should also check out more by NKC like: Mona Lisa, When I Fall in Love, The Very Thought of You. Oh and yes, Michael Buble is definitely worth checking out for modern day crooners - with songs like: Home, Haven't Met You Yet, Sway, Save the Last Dance for Me, Feeling Good, Crazy Love, etc, etc.
Nat was one of the smoothest ever, try Rambling Rose, When I fall In Love, Too Young, Ballerina, Orange Coloured sky has Amber's brass in there too. Smile, Le's Face The Music And Dance. Also check out Sammy Davis jr and Dean Martin together with Frank they were The Rat Pack, they were huge in Vegas either solo or when they got together. If you get chance there are touring shows called The Rat Pack that imitate the 3 of them. Tony Bennett is awesome he just celebrated his 95th birthday on stage in New York with Lady Gaga, I Left My Heart In San Francisco, Because Of You, Cold Cold Heart, The Good Life are all great songs from Tony and also try Tony with Lady Gaga Cheek To Cheek and The Lady Is A Tramp
Nat was incredibly loved by all. I personally loved him in Cat Ballou, not to mention he was one of the original singers of The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire). Since several people have already mentioned his daughter Natalie I'll just skip to other artists. Since you liked Frank Sinatra you should try more of the Rat Pack, Dean Martin or Sammy Davis Jr. I think you'd really enjoy them. And if you like them try the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts. They were hilarious 😂😂😂.
I loved Cat Ballou too. He was great. I also loved Jane Fonda and Lee Marvin. He won an Oscar and a Golden Globes award for his role in that movie. Nat's role as a singing narrator was unique.
dont even get me started with nat king cole chestnut roasting on an open fire. I drive my kids nuts playing that song over and over again during christmas. lol
One of my all time favs along with Eartha Kitt's version of Santa Baby. I'm one of those weird people who like the first versions of song if not the original singers.
@@paulamelnyk986 Lee actually opened the Oscars sitting on that horse with its legs crossed. I have been searching for a picture for years and haven't found one yet. It was similar to Billy Crystal and his cow for City Slickers.
This song was done again with his daughter Natalie cole. and they made the song and video look and sound like they did a duet. even thou he had passed away a while back, I love this song. Amber got it right he is one of the singers I listen too when I can't fall asleep. and great memory my mom who was a piano teacher always taught this song to her students. they do not make them like this anymore...
The crooners were popular when I was very young. Their perfect, expressive voices came over the airwaves, and set a standard in my mind. Even though my loves are blues/rock/jazz, my heart always loves the clear, perfect diction of folks like Nate King Cole, who is a national treasure.
More NKC songs that I love "Our Love is here to stay" "Smile" "Mona Lisa" "The very thought of you" "Stardust" and for a little different lighthearted one "Straighten up and fly right"
The thing that impressed me about Nat King Cole was that he would always look into the camera like he was making eye contact with you personally and that he was always smiling. Besides being a great singer, he was also a very good piano player......a real musician.
I'm glad that you enjoyed him so much. He had an incredible voice and left this world too soon. I grew up listening to his songs and with my dad singing his songs in our home. Check out his song "L-O-V-E" as well. Thanks for your listening to all of these great singers.
Before the strings! He was a great jazz pianist and vocalist, there's a different feel to his earlier music- but still that impossibly incredible voice.
@@normanleroy1874 I heard a story once (not sure if it’s true) he and his trio went to Europe on tour. Nat sang the first 3 songs and only got a lukewarm response. Turned out, the crowd was there to hear him play piano, not necessarily to sing!
Definitely need a listen to Johnny Mathis. He is one register higher (tenor) than Nat, both singers wowed me in the 60’s, and I still love them. My LP collection had a section for crooners, and they took half that section.
Andy Williams is another crooner. Listen to “Moon River”. There were so many. Dean Martin Perry Como others as well. Frank Sinatra Fly me to the Moon is amazing.
Nat King Cole's Christmas song is the only album of Christmas music I ever listened to, because I just melt with his voice. I'm sure it's been mentioned but just in case, this was re-released in the 1980s and it was double tracked to make it a duet between him and his adult daughter Natalie Cole, Which brought it to a whole new audience. You need to find the singing group The Platters, and specifically listen to Harbor Lights and My Prayer. They have a whole catalog of hits, but those two will just melt you if you like this.
His daughter, Natalie Cole, did this song and they blended his version in with hers-- as a duet. It is beautiful
The one she did alongside her father is one of my favorite albums!
Yes. Sadly, we lost both of them too soon.
That was an epic collaboration! Natalie and Nat crooning in Heaven.
For men tenor is high range, baritone is in the middle, bass is the low register.
It was so good! I remember that. It was so crazy at the time. Do you recall when they had his hologram on stage singing with her?
His diction is perfection. His voice is like melted butter.
There will never be another Nat King Cole.
Yes …. as smooth as butta!
Smooth as silk
I’ve always said is voice is like butter. The good kind. That Kerrygold shit.
And he smoked two packs of unfiltered cigarettes a day!
First time I realized as a kid just how ethereal, elegant and melodious a voice could be.
Listen to him sing "Mona Lisa." The sound of it alone makes LIFE worth living!
"Mona Lisa" and "Stardust" are my other two Nat King Cole favorites
Pure buttah.
And "Smile"
I was born when "Mona Lisa" was popular. One of my earliest memories is of my father singing along with Nat King Cole.

If you ever focus on holiday songs, Nat King Cole’s version of “The Christmas Song” (“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…”) is an absolute classic.
Agreed. It really is THE Christmas album
My favourite!
True
Nat King Cole Christmas - The Carpenters Christmas - The Jackson Five Christmas albums were always played growing up. Still do it to this day.
Hm. Hadn’t heard of a Jackson 5 Christmas album. I’ll have to check it out this year
Nat King Cole had some great songs: "Smile"' "Mona Lisa", "Around the world"
Some other crooners I would recommend are:
Johnny Mathis - "Chances Are", "Wonderful, Wonderful"
Andy Williams - "Moon River", "Born Free" "Happy Heart"
Mel Tormè - "Blue Moon", "A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square"
Dean Martin - "Volare"' "Everybody Loves Somebody" "That's Amoré" "Memories are made of This"
Bobby Darin - "Dream Lover" "Beyond the Sea"
Excellent suggestions! I’d add “Sway” by Dean Martin.
Seasonal - but..,. "the Christmas Song"
Nice choices🎼
You can't have Bobby Darin without Mack the Knife!!!! Great suggestions though!
Around The World was my wedding song, first dance with hubby. 21 years strong. ♥️

The beauty of that man's voice is eternal.
His voice is So Smooth!
His daughter, did a beautiful version of this song with him, posthumously. It’s so wonderful to hear her voice blend with her Dad’s.
I have heard this sing but don’t know the singer and I don’t know his daughter as well. Thank you for mentioning her, I will check her songs.
I LOVE that you two are bringing these classics to young people and they're learning to appreciate them by your reactions. Nat King Cole is amazing, his voice, his phrasing, and his class. Top notch.
Thank you both for bringing this.
He was such a class act with an Incredible voice.
His voice was a surprise to everyone, and he started singing in public later in life. He was best known (in his lifetime) as a pianist.
Legend, Nat King Cole, with his beautiful voice and this beautiful song. Brings tears to my eyes.
I was privileged to see him perform and sing Unforgettable at the "then" famous Cocoanut Grove at the Ambassador Hotel in L A. around '61 or '62. He was amazing. His daughter sings along with him updated after his death. Natalie Cole has now passed to.
Yes, you must watch Natalie singing with her father... th-cam.com/video/CCX1xUdMsNs/w-d-xo.html
There is a version of this song that his Daughter Natalie Cole did where they used footage from Nat singing so that it was a duet. So touching, it really gets you in the feels!
Here it is...th-cam.com/video/DhpmxjRXneY/w-d-xo.html
YES! Listen to the duet!!
Must hear the duet with his daughter. Natalie has a beautiful voice also. Must listen to the duet !
One of the goats of American music. Overwhelming tone.
One of the most silky smooth voices of all time. A beloved singer by all audiences.
After Nat died, his daughter Natalie recorded herself singing this with him posthumously. It's worth checking out. Natalie Cole and Nat King Cole Unforgettable. Edit: The live version that has 1.1 million views is by far the best version. It has sax!
Yeah, that's pretty awesome to watch.
That should be a female Friday idea
Yes. A must see.
@@joeyboedeker7205 a must!!!
Yessssssss!!!!
It heals your heart to listen to his voice.
That voice is like velvet! Love it. His daughter was great too.
Here are a few others, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Tony Bennett - female crooners, Dionne Warwick, Barbara Streisand, Etta James
If you liked Nat King Cole, the you need to listen to Johnny Mathis singing “Stardust”. It is a MUST.
Or Twelfth of never or Wild is the wind, and of course Chances are. Love Johnny Mathis, when I was a kid my mom would put Johnny Mathis on the stereo when we went bed and we all fell asleep listening to that beautiful voice drifting through the house.
And Misty!
Johnny Mathis Christmas Album is one of my all time favorites.
One of the great human voices, like silk. He's eternal.
Another great crooner is Tony Bennett, who just turned 95 last week. His big hit is "I Left My Heart In San Francisco".
When you said “Twelfth of Never,” it brought a nostalgic chill/thrill through my body. Johnny was so amazing. Even angelic at times.
Nature Boy is my favorite.
Love Johnny Mathis singing Misty.
This man is incredibly unforgettable. He is the personification of style.
Agree. Such class.
Nat King Cole, in my view, is the epitome of gentlemanly class and style. His voice is superlative. It rises above all others. If you haven't heard it already, consider listening to the Christmas Song. Due to it's thematic content, I find the Christmas Song to be among the finest recordings of all time.
His daughter ,Natalie, recorded this as a duet with her father after his death. She used footage of him and sang with that.
Yes, it was a big hit in the 90s
His daughter Natalie , years after his death , as a rising singer she recorded Unforgettable with his version colorized and played as if both were on stage. Their voices complement each other so well. Take the best and add some more.
His daughter, Natalie Cole was also a great RnB singer. She did a "UNFORGETTABLE" duet with her father using clips from his old footage. A great tribute to a great singer.
Even though they had different ranges and styles, they both had such smooth voices. They had a similar sound in how they sounded out the words in a pronounced but soft feel.
You should move from crooners to jazz singers:
Ella Fitzgerald - Miss Otis Regrets
Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit
Billie Holiday - God Bless This Child
Bessie Smith - Down Hearted Blues
Etta Jones - Yes Sir, That's My Baby
Nina Simone - I want a Little Sugar in my Bowl
That should get you rolling.
Oh heck yes. All of these!
Ella Fitzgerald... "Cry Me A River" Tearjerker! Guaranteed full body goose bumps.
And speaking of Bessie Smith, "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out," and "St. Louis Blues."
Nat has one of the top three voices the good Lord ever created.
You likely would recognize his rendition of “The Christmas Song”, one of the most known songs at Christmas.
Yes!!
Yes Michael Bublé the modern day crooner
Feeling Good by Michael Buble has the Sinatra appeal that you would like.
YES on Mona Lisa, then When I Fall In Love.
His voice just melts me. He was one of my dad's favorite singers.
This is a live performance. No auto tune. Singers in the day knew how to sing. His song Mona Lisa is a 10.
His voice was like star dust. A magic singer.
His voice gives me the chills. That's how good he is.
One of the most amazing voices ever! Listen to "When I Fall In Love".
I always listen to Nat to find balance in life. His voice is magical. Blessed to enjoy him. Love you Nat x
His Daughter Natalie Cole reprised this as a duet post humus with Nat. She has a beautiful voice of her own and the song is cut nicely with Nat
Natalie also had a great voice. “this will be” and “Our love” are some I remember from the seventies. Female Friday, perhaps???
If you want to hear Natalie flex her formidable chops, pull up her singing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
You need to listen to his song called “ When I Fall in Love”…such a heavenly voice!!
Such a GREAT song
Cat Ballou...Now that takes me back, way back. I was 3 when it came out.
And now both of them are longer with us....R.I.P. Nat and Natalie...
One of the very best love songs ever! ❤️ if anyone wants to melt a heart...play this song.
You should try Natalie Cole “This Will Be An Everlasting Love”. She is his daughter who was popular in the 70’s.
Take a listen to Natalie Cole’s hologram duet with her dad on this...it’s a beautiful tribute!
Yess 👍
Yes! The duet was done by reusing the original for his voice, as he had already passed.
Yes indeed!
Yes, please react to this version of "Unforgettable"
She has also passed away 😢
Nat King Cole's LOVE is a must and there's also Brook Benton's Rainy Night in Georgia and Ray Charles Georgia.
The crooners were popular when I was very young. Their perfect, expressive voices came over the airwaves, and set a standard in my mind. Even though my loves are blues/rock/jazz, my heart always loves the clear, perfect diction of folks like Nate King Cole, who is a national treasure.
More NKC songs that I love "Our Love is here to stay" "Smile" "Mona Lisa" "The very thought of you" "Stardust" and for a little different lighthearted one "Straighten up and fly right"
Also "Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer"
Great suggestions I love smile always makes me 😢in a good way Mona Lisa reminds me of the film Mona Lisa.
When I fall in love is another good one
The thing that impressed me about Nat King Cole was that he would always look into the camera like he was making eye contact with you personally and that he was always smiling. Besides being a great singer, he was also a very good piano player......a real musician.
One of the most frankly beautiful voices in American music
I'm glad that you enjoyed him so much. He had an incredible voice and left this world too soon. I grew up listening to his songs and with my dad singing his songs in our home.
Check out his song "L-O-V-E" as well.
Thanks for your listening to all of these great singers.
Nat's voice is hypnotizing. What a LEGEND.
Another great Nat “King” Cole song is a 1943 recording of It’s Only a Paper Moon. It also features him on piano. Truly a classic!
Another pure voice is Johnny Mathis. ‘Misty’
Joe and Eddy ‘There’s a Meeting here tonight’
Definitely need a listen to Johnny Mathis. He is one register higher (tenor) than Nat, both singers wowed me in the 60’s, and I still love them. My LP collection had a section for crooners, and they took half that section.
Misty is great! Agree.
My mother is Guyanese and when she was a teenager she attended a party where Mathis was flown in to perform.
You have to listen to Sam Cooke. Songs like “you send me” or “bring it on home to me” or “a change is gonna come.” Honestly all his songs are amazing
Absolutely.
Andy Williams is another crooner. Listen to “Moon River”. There were so many. Dean Martin Perry Como others as well. Frank Sinatra Fly me to the Moon is amazing.
Yes, Moon River!
Dean -That's Amore
Nat King Cole's Christmas song is the only album of Christmas music I ever listened to, because I just melt with his voice. I'm sure it's been mentioned but just in case, this was re-released in the 1980s and it was double tracked to make it a duet between him and his adult daughter Natalie Cole, Which brought it to a whole new audience.
You need to find the singing group The Platters, and specifically listen to Harbor Lights and My Prayer. They have a whole catalog of hits, but those two will just melt you if you like this.
How about Andy Williams "The Impossible Dream"
