I've been playing as Orks for over 30 years. I spent 5 years working in a local Warhammer shop, and I STILL get excited at people discovering the hobby. ONE OF US!
@@Warpia40k I fell in love with the aesthetic, minis, art, & lore for the Orks. They've always been the fun army too! This may be why I have 14,000 points of Orks painted.
@@Warpia40k As someone who also just got into the hobby this year: Orks are great because they are so diverse and have no strict looks, basically building their stuff from welded trash. So you can get creative and have fun with pretty much any vehicle or parts that could conceivably be in the Warhammer universe / is cheap on eBay as long as it's recognizable as e.g. a truck or mek suit. Have not really played many games yet, but already know that there is a scene here in Munich centered around the "PilsQuelle". p.s. Also Orks are the one faction that is *enjoying* the state of the 40k universe, just living in the moment without care for any lore. WAAAGH!
@@donovanattano3898got my first minis around 5/6 year old from a friend, a handfull of scaven was all it took for the addiction to take hold, im now 40.....cough... something 🤣😮💨
Much like yourself I came from a heavy fantasy nerd background, and when I was trying to get into 40k (friend of mine was wanting someone to play with) I very much wanted something rooted in that aspect. I was still deciding on which faction to play as nothing really stuck out to me... And then the Lion El'Jonson mini was revealed. Primarch of the 1st Space Marine legion, The Dark Angels, clad in his wonderfully dark green almost black knightly armor, sword and shield, and beautifully flowing cape. He shone like a beacon to me and I've been hooked ever since! Since then I've introduced my girlfriend to the hobby and she's decided to play Orks! They're wonderfully fun models to look at/build/kitbash/paint! Welcome to the hobby!
I only just figured them out a couple of weeks ago thanks to Pete the Wargamer. Months of looking at the sheet in confusion and years of auto-putting it aside. I am more Gork than Mork clearly
I’ve been in the hobby for 7 years now, and my best piece of advice is to get into warhammer 40k kill team. The game is arguably more exciting and snappy, You only need to paint around 10 guys to have a finished force, which lets you get into a bunch of different factions! The new starter set for it is around the corner, and it looks like a great way to get your teeth into the game!!
See yall say it's easier less models.. but then you look how you measure distances with triangles and squares and if the models are hidden or not, if they can do abilities/use gear and we end up back at 40k is easier
As someone who has been in the hobby for over 30 years, let me first say a warm welcome, you have stepped into an amazing world full of rich lore and mostly awesome people. Second, don't rush, take things slowly especially with painting, practice, practice, practice and don't get discouraged if it doesn't turn out like you first thought it would. Third, get some glue! You have made an excellent financial choice with the ultimate starter set, but personally, I wouldn't rely on those push fit to stay together, I'd glue them. And I recommend Tamiya extra thin. You might also want to purchase a hobby knife, if you don't have one already. TH-cam is your friend for modelling and painting tips. Welcome dude I hope you have an awesome journey!
@@DarthPaddius thank you 😊 Also thank you for your really helpful tips, I really appreciate that! 30 years into Warhammer is amazing and also shows me, that’s made the right decision to finally start 🔥
Looks like we get to see you fall down one of the largest rabbit holes for hobbying. I wish you all the fun and joy it brings. Its a wonderful hobby, wonderful community and you can curate your very own wonderful pile of potential lol. Have fun, do it how you want and enjoy the process.
25 years ago, my son was going to be home for the summer vacation, no camps, adventure journeys etc , so my wife bought us the war hammer 40K starter set to keep us busy. 25 years later I am still working on my second army, with so many editions, versions, updates and a huge fortune spent, it is a never-ending feat of joy, happiness, misery and sorrow. Congratulations and condolences on joining our sometimes happy sometimes not so much, little community. Goodluck, and happy gaming. I offer you this last thought about this game, The person who wins, cant do it by themselves, they need someone to lose but always, it the game play that matters most.
the little metal thingie is a mold line scraper. when you assemble the minis, the edges where the casting molds are sometimes leave a fine line of plastic. that little tool is for scraping that tiny line of plastic smooth. on weapons, or armor it's good to check for mold lines, because that slight raised texture will show through the paint.
Lovely to see someone getting into the hobby - plus, so many commenters that have also recently got into it, welcome all. Hope you and your partner have lots of fun. I've been into it for about thirty years now, and still haven't broken the habit 🙂 One part of the hobby I enjoy is converting the occasional model - that is, making little (or big!) changes to them before painting just to make them feel that little bit more personal. Things like swapping heads or weapons, or adjusting the positions of arms and legs aren't too difficult but can make a surprising difference to how things look, and you get to have some models that no-one else will because of those personal touches.
@@stephenhumphreys9149 Thank you for this lovely comment 🫶🏻 30 years is amazing!! 🤩 This sounds so great, the more that I read and learn about the minis, the more I love it already 😌
I'm actually in the process of exposing myself to the game. Recently have picked up Malifaux and Shatterpoint, but am looking to expand into 40k the community it's so welcoming! I wish I had started this years ago! Enjoy your journey!
I just started a week ago. Been painting infernus marines and tyranids. Cant wait to paint battle sisters and plague marines next! All the best to you.
Oh I actually fell in love with the Battle Sisters when I saw them in the 40k lore video! Really good choice 🔥 all the best for you too and thank you for your comment 🫶🏻
Started my Warhammer journey in 2001 when my Dad and I went to a Games Workshop to look at the new Fellowship of the Ring miniatures. Saw these insane and cool models of dudes in blue power armor fighting space orks. So exciting to see new people entering the hobby and documenting their start. I wish you all the fun and luck in the world.

Great first video! Welcome to the hobby! Can't wait to follow your journey! Just remember do it your way, start slow and just enjoy yourself. I've been playing for 20 years and going slow and really taking the time to pick what you want is always the best way! Welcome to the greatest hobby, looking forward to more videos!
I am only just getting into the hobby myself. I'm a former painter of Ral Partha D&D mini when I was in high school back in the 90's and need to get back to the relaxation it provided. I'm looking forward to watching your progression and am hoping to learn what I might need to know as a novice to the Warhammer worlds.
Hey, I wish you a lot of fun playing and painting. My first tip is: This is a hobby! Don't rush, but never stop either! Never be mad that past minis you did, because they don't look as good as your new ones! You will always improve, and you will always see that improvement in your minis. That is a good thing. Some day you will love your old minis just for being a reminder of the times you learned things. I still keep minis around from the times me and my brother were starting the game (25 years ago). They are hearthwarmingly ugly.
@@Lothrean thank you so much for this wholesome and heartwarming comment 🫶🏻 I really appreciate your encouragement and I will take care of my first minis as much as you do!
That's 60 or so books for Horus Heresy series, the kind of origin story, but for Warhammer 40k as a whole there's hundreds of books! Some of my favourites are: The Eisenhorn/Revenor/Bequin (10 books) series by Dan Abnett, Bloodlines by Chris Wraight, Helsreach by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Brutal Kunnin' by Mike Brooks, the Ciaphas Cain series (12 books) by Sandy Mitchell, Double Eagle by Dan Abnett, Assassinorum: Kingmaker by Robert Wrath and Valdor: Birth of the Imperium by Chris Wraight. There's so many more I loved, but these are some of my favourites. Black Library (Games Workshop's publishing house) have some incredibly talented authors.
@@waaaghzag it’s so amazing that you took the time to write down all your favs for me! Thank you so much for your help and support, I really appreciate it ☺️🫶🏻
Loving how enthusiastic you are. There are many chapters of Space Marine you can paint. The blue ones are Ultramarines but I recommend to ask your local Warhammer store about all the chapters before painting them up. My favourite Chapter are the Blood Angels, they are a highly mobile army who are lethal in close combat. The Salamanders are also really cool and they specialise with flame weapons and the go out of their way to protect humans. Space Wolves are basic Norsemen in space. If you like vikings then you'll love Space wolves. Some of them even ride to battle on gigantic wolves. If you like tanks then Iron Warriors are a great fit. They have alot of bionic arms, legs and eyes.i could go on and on, but you get the idea, there are so many chapters to choose from. I'm loving the channel and looking forward to watching you progress to your first battle!
The first mini is an infernus marine, the second mini is a stormcast eternal from Age of Sigmar (Fantasy). Also, there aren't "just" 61 books for Warhammer 40k, there are 61 books just for the Horus Heresy alone :) If you are into 40k lore (Horus Heresy is technically Warhammer 30k) then you might also want to check out the "Eisenhorn" trilogy. Welcome to the hobby and I hope you have a fantastic journey!
There's something around 450 Warhammer 40k novels. As has been mentioned there's 64 Horus heresy books. Any books by Dan Abnett are a must also Aaron Demski-Bowdens Night lords trilogy is exceptional, have fun.
Welcome to the hobby, and thank you for the great video! I've recently gotten back into this year after a 15 year+ break. It's been a great edition for me to come back to because i'm an Ultramarine and a Tyranid player, so the starter set was a great start, funnily enough. The only real tip I have is - the rule of cool above all else! Don't worry about what's good in the game, and get, paint and play with the models you love and feel drawn to. Don't chase the ever changing competitive meta, go with your gut!
I LOVED your video. I just started 5 weeks ago and it has helped my mental health so much. Good luck and have fun on your journey. Oh I am painting the age of sigmar skaventide forces and the 40K kill team hivestorm box.
Welcome to the hobby. I've not gotten into the table top yet, but I started my journey in 2020 when I decided to start the Horus Heresy. Not all bangers, but there are definitely bangers in the series.
I have been collecting and painting Warhammer for about 30 years now and I loved your video. Seeing it reminds me of the happiness I felt being a small boy first discovering the hobby and lore. You definitely made the right choice with 40k, the lore is so rich and fun. Enjoy your journey to come! 😊

I love seeing the enjoyment you have getting into the hobby. I’ve been into this hobby for 25 years and seeing stuff like this reminds me of how I felt when I first got into the hobby :)
I started with Imperial guard (astra militarum) I am now working on a space marine army. I started several years ago and took a long break. Just started back up at the beginning on 10th. Have fun.
One of us! One of us! One of us! Welcome to the hobby. Remember your first mini will look bad but you will love it. Also- I have four armies, Space Wolves, World Eaters, Tyranids and Death Guard.
You should see my first bretonion knight, absolutely plastered in humbrol enamels, pinched the paint from my dad's shed when he was at work, got it EVERYWHERE 😂 He did not see the funny side of a lime green puddle on the carpet, but he did buy me some models and real paints Still got the knight ✌️😁
I started a year ago with Warhammer. There’s so much to like, it’s very overwhelming 😅. I started with a 40K starter set en after that a age of Sigmar starter set. And now I got a cities of Sigmar set😊 welcome to the hobby!!

Welcome to the hobby! God, I wish I could walk into a Games Workshop store for the first time again, read my first White Dwarf, paint my first mini again 😅
As someone who’s been in the hobby 27 years welcome. I am genuinely made up with all the new people flooding the hobby. Can’t wait to see your progress
Welcome to the hobby! I'm just returning after many years absence. Originally started by in the late 90's, but stopped when I went to Uni. Steadily getting back into it and glad to say the hobby is very accessible and friendly. Look forward to seeing you as you progress in you're journey
This is so awesome! I've recently started my 40k journey in a very similar way to you, I got completely absorbed by the lore of it. I also played SM2 and I started with the Leviathan starter set, which is very similar to yours, and I've assembled and painted about a quarter of the minis. I wish you the very best on your journey!
This is so cool. You are perfectly expressing the excitement of a new hobby, and there is so much to Warhammer 40k to enjoy. You'll never get bored of it.
Welcome to the hobby! Enjoy the journey - there is a lot to discover. If you want an easy way of branching out and trying miniatures from different factions I cannot recommend Kill Team enough. There are so many teams with the individual team members full of character and it is easy to get a feeling for the different factions without committing to buying, building and painting a whole army. Plus Kill Team is a fantastic game. Alternating activations is intuitive for most people who have played board games and you do not have to worry about points etc. when list building. Plus the rules are free now!
@@oerbek Another comment for the kill team with a lot of good points! Thank you for explaining it in detail to me, I really appreciate it 🫶🏻 and I def gonna give them a try!!
I've been into the lore for a few years now and finally decided to get my first 40k set about one year ago. I haven't decided whether I ever want to play (the idea of building an entire army, learning the rules and being MINDFUL of all the rules when I play with others is very intimidating to me), but i love to collect and paint! My two favorite factions right now are the Adeptus Mechanicus and Adepta Sororitas. I have some kits from each one. Lore-wise, Mechanicus is just super interesting and i love their models, so it is probably my favorite. I just recently got some Sororitas models because I really love how over-the-top they are! I mean, they have a tank with a freaking stained glass window on it and another that looks like a pipe organ tank 😂 They look so intimidating, but fun to paint (though, I don't know how I'd even start to go about putting together a whole army of them! Anyway, all that to say, I'm kind of new to the model/painting part of the hobby also! Welcome! Also, if you want to save a little money, look at Army Painter paints/accessories and check out some online sites for better prices on the minis. Love going into the local Games Workshop store, but it's 'spensive! 🤑
@@helvetika7173 Love to read from another Lore nerd like me ☺️ Did you read the books or are you listening to the audiobooks? The Adeptus Mechanicus are super interesting since they have their own god but are needed for all the weapons etc! Also I really like their appearance. Oh well, I already realized that the Warhammer store gonna be the enemy of my wallet haha! Thank you, I also wish you a lot of joy with building and painting your minis ☺️
@@Warpia40k I succumbed to temptation and revisited my local Games Workshop store last night, actually...haha. So much for following my own advice. But yes, I've listened to the first book in the Horus Heresy and half of the 2nd book so far on Audible - the narrator is great and I find I can enjoy it more when I'm being read to 😂 Also, I agree - Mechanicus is one of the most interesting factions! I actually fell in love with them when playing the game 'Mechanicus' on my Switch.
Good luck on your hobby journey, 40k lore is immense and an amazing experience. To get an idea of the gameplay there are lots of channels out there screening Warhammer battle reports, my personal favorite is Liam Dempsey, amazing quality, full of laughs and nothing taken too seriously. Tabletop Titans is also great for battle reports.
@@demogorgan3761 Thank you ☺️ That’s a really helpful recommendation, thank you so much for that! Battle reports gonna help,e a lot since I am already nervous when I think about my first battle 😅 as I see on a meme ,Warhammer is expensive, more complicated chess‘ 😅
Emperor Bless you, it's... wonderful to see you start this. Blood Angels are the best chapter btw anything else is heresy and lies spread by people jealous their Primarch isn't Sangunius. Seriously though, the amount of joy having a physical model that you assemble and paint yourself is great. You will love it.
Welcome aboard the Warhammer journey, hope you will enjoy it. A little tip from an old dude: write down what colors you use so that if you want to go back and paint more of an army at a later time you remember what colors you used when painting it before. Not a problem in the beginning, but when you get lots of paints and many armies it can be hard to remember what exact color you used.
Space Marines are a good starter army, to learn the game. I personally play Blood Angel marines, a close combat specialist army. I also play Drukhari, just cause they have cool skyboats. The little metal took is a mood line remover, used for scrapping away any imperfections on your mini during assembly
@@darrenbarlow1826 Finally! I was waiting the whole time for this comment, now I know that it’s a line remover 🫶🏻 I was also thinking about Drukhari, they look so badass 😎
*mold line, typo lol Drukhari are in an odd spot at the moment, 1\3 of the army range just straight up can't be bought. They also went from one the weakest armies to one of the strongest with a new detachment rule.
Looking forward to seeing your journey! I was into everything Games Workshop as a kid, it was my obsession. But, I haven't played in nearly 30 years now, so I'm looking forward to learning alongside you.
New to the game myself, a friend got me into it as revenge for getting him into Magic. Ive been painting and expanding my Necrons for just about three months now and loving it
I literally bought a starter kit three weeks ago!! Twenty years since I last painted a model 😊 glad that other people are embarking on this same journey!!! Very best of luck missus!! Would definitely recommend investing in an Army Painter basing kit! Properly spending time to make your bases nice makes your models look sooo much nicer!
Always great to see someone new coming into the hobby with such enthusiasm. Given your fantasy background I thought their lord of the rings game Middle Earth Strategy Battle Games would have been first on your list. Mind you with a new starter set coming out in hopefully December, there is always enough room for two game systems right… lol
@@erebus6489 thank you ☺️ I wanted to start 40k before I gonna dive into Middle Earth Universum (again 😅) but I bet it’s gonna happen in the future!! My bankaccount will hate me a lot 🥲
I really like 40k for collecting and painting. For playing, I recommend kill team. Ten models per team, you dont have to spend half a day to wait for your turn, and you can convince friends to pick up a team as well :D
@@Warpia40k I looked at Kill Team, but I didn't feel it. I like Warhammer 40k, longer games, more strategic yet still depends on your dice. I lose myself for hours without realising how quickly time is passing. So, you've got the starter set, my advice stick to that for now.
Welcome to warhammer 40000 world. I my self have been gone from the hobby 8-9 years by 1 months ago a vent back. I hope you will enjoy. My first army was the Dark Angels (a chapter of space marines) Greeting from Nicolaj from Denmark.
Party on! Enjoy yourself, the hobby is great fun. The small metal tool you were holding is for removing mould lines. When the sprues are cast, there are small lines left over on the pieces of the model you can scrape off gently to achieve smooth surfaces. I play Death Guard in 40k and Bretonnia in Fantasy!
I started when I was 15 with Citadel dwarves that was in 1984 . My sister painted D&D miniatures with oil paints . I wanted to as well so she took me to our Fantasy shop called Scenario in Mainz Germany, now called Merlins . I few years later they started to sell WH40k and I bought all I could get my hands on. I still have most of my minis from back then, and I'm in the process of stripping them and repainting them. Blood Angels is my favorite chapter.
@@HumanistGordian so now you’re 40 years into it, that’s AMAZING! Congrats for that! ☺️ do you have any recommendations how to stripping them? A friend has also his minis from his childhood and all the videos that I watched were with products that we don’t have in Germany 😅
@Warpia40k Alcohol over 90% works, Aceton does, Nailpolish remover too. It depends on what undercoat you've used. Friends of mine used carprimer, which is very durable so they used breakfluid to remove the paint and then washingpetrol to get rid of the breaking fluid. But they said it was worth it. First Edition minis are pretty pricy these days.
Welcome to this wonderful hobby that gave me and many others a lifetine of joy. Enjoy it but be aware - in the grimm darkness of the far future, there is only war
Welcome! I hope you enjoy your journey and have a great time with it! Whether you just want to paint your minis or jyst play the game or somewhere in between there is a place for everyone in this hobby!
As already mentioned the horus heresy is more around 30k, but anyways pretty damn cool to learn the background of the 40k factions. Definitely check out the Ciaphas Cain and Eisenhorn books. They're placed in 40k and are great books to get started. Other recommendations are Nightlords, gaunts Geister, Eisensturm. Btw in spotify you can find a lot of german audiobooks available. Including the above mentioned
The first 4 Hours Heresy Books are the best starting point. War hammer TV is also a nice way to get into lots of animation and stuff. The GE shop should have paint lessons and help you build your miniature. Join a community group close to your house is best advice as it can be difficult to travel with your army.
What i did pretty early wich helped me. Good brushes, good color from vallejo(dropper Bottle) and a wet pallette. these tools are so esetial to fun painting. Viel Glück und viel Spass!
@@Warpia40k I love their mad scientist shenanigans, and their lore boils down to "what if the mad scientist was also a blithering idiot?" Plus I don’t have to paint human faces!

Have fun! It is an awesome rabbit hole! You should have tried to get the Leviathan starter box, that one is even better value :-) Also, there are more than 200 books in the black library. Most of them are rather underwhelming shlock, but fun standouts especially for newbees: -Ciaphas Cain, Hero of the Empire; A laugh out loud book written as a set of memoirs of just a dude trying his best to enjoy life and to weasel out of any dangerous situation and by accident surviving and being labeled a hero against his will. -The Devine and the Infinite; A laugh out loud book about two very old and very grumpy necron robots pulling pranks and fighting against each over other the course of 10000 years -Eisenholm, Xenos; A great detective introduction story to the world of Wh40k

Welcome to the slippery slope... been sliding since 1988, d'oh! Glad to have you with us! That mysterious sheet of symbols are NOT stickers - they are waterslide transfers. Carefully cut out the design you want to use, submerge it in water and after 5 mins or so it will loosen. Then slide it onto your model with a brush or soft tool and get it in place before it dries... If you need it, the store can show you how to do this! P.S. LOTR is a fine place to start...

I'm more of an Aeldari girl than Imperium or Tyrannids, but I can recommend the Path of the Dark Eldar Series, the Phoenix Lords duology, Valedor (which doubles as a Tyrannid book) and the obligatory recommendation of The Infinite and the Divine, which is a Necron book that's highly regarded!
@@camillerodriguesmelonoguei7934 yayyy I hope we’re getting more and more! 🔥 Oh nice, thank you so much for your recommendations! Did you read them or do you listen to audio books?
That room looks awesome. Back when I got into Warhammer, TH-cam didn't exist, we just applied the paint thinking it was automatically going to look like the pictures on the box. Plenty of amazing content nowadays but make sure to watch at least a couple Duncan Rhodes videos before you start painting, this way you can avoid some of the massive disappointments that come with being a beginner lol
@@Warpia40k it is very nerve wracking because at first we don't know how the paint is supposed to interact with the brush and the surface we are painting. It's all about familiarity in the end. At least watching videos you can learn all the techniques but also immediately see how all that stuff is supposed to behave, from diluting paint to applying various coats, shading, dry brushing, highlighting, etc... It's all there in HD on your screen, which is amazing. And btw, you can use the bits of plastic from the sprues to train at first, before you get started on an actual mini

I started 3½ years ago, 🎉congrats on starting the hobby journey. When I started i told myself to paint the 1st 1000 points of the 2 armies i chose, Tyranids and GSC Which ended up meaning I wasted the 1st 6-8 months that i could of used learning to play the game. Just don't expect to paint everything perfectly straight away and try things out with grey plastic models. This will let you know what units you like and how to expand the army and allow time to choose colour schemes your happy with.
I didn't play in a tournament for over a year where that matters. But since I can't regularly play on weeknights due to work, i now just turn up to them with what's recently been painted. Booking the day off in advance

Then after couple of them from my friend I decided to leave my hobby cuz I didnt have money. After some time, with not so big orc army I decided to collect chaos warriors. Maybe from my chaos within I dont know 😜 now I have more or less 3/4k points army and Im helping my wife to collect and to paint elven army. Now is Old World running so we will have time to play. Even with the baby on the way 😆 As for 40k, Im much into it for couple of weeks and enjoy to learning this world. I hope you too. And if I may, what is your favourite army for now?
Welcome to the hobby! You're in for a teat. The comments section is going to be a blessing for any tips and tricks. Don't forget to prime your minis and get yourself a wet palette. Excited to see your progress!
I'm starting to get into Warhammer now, and it's seriously so exciting after finishing my first two minis. I'm looking forward to seeing your journey with it while I look into it myself!
Make sure to get yourself a much bigger brush! Biggest mistake I made was starting with the small brush in the paint set and trying to paint a whole Blood Bowl team. Took forever when what I needed was a larger brush to apply the base coats faster. Just a tip from Hamburg.
That has be the largest amount of replies I´ve ever seen under a channels first video. Anyway, welcome to the rabbit hole. Just a little recommendation : buy your stuff from sellers like Taschengelddieb or Kutami in Germany. They sell everything about 20% cheaper than the Warhammer stores. Regarding the question about the books : Warhammer is such a vast universe that there really is now wrong point to start. Of course, to get information on how the Imperium got to where it is now, the first 3-4 books of the Horus Heresy are good point to start.
Actually I am also surprised and still overwhelmed by all the nice comments and story’s. Thank you a lot to recommend this shop, since u am living in Germany, the shipping will be also fast 🤩
Love this video. Welcome to the hobby. I have read all 60 books of the Horus heresy and they are amazing. The first three are probably the best. I have several armies. I have orruk, goblins, giants and ogor for age of sigmar. I have tomb kings for old world and currently painting for raven guard space marines. It truely is a great hobby.
@@simonmatten7418 wow this sounds amazing, I can’t wait to have several armies by my own but I am still thinking about which army I wanna play - it’s such a hard decision 😅 Thank you for your comment and your support 🫶🏻
@@Warpia40k I think picking something that represents how you like to play any game will help. If you like in your face combat, then tyranids or orks are the way to go. If you like to destroy your enemies from distance and with cool guns, go guard or tau. Space marines are very cool and probably the easier army to learn how to play but o don’t think there is any bad army. Also easy just to pick what models you like the look of and go with them. Happy to chat painting tips with you any time
I've been playing as Orks for over 30 years.

WAAAGH!

@@Mosaic117 thank you for the tip - since so many people are recommending the Kill Team, I really should keep an eye on it! ☺️

@@douglasbeveridge1861 this is such a lovely story, thank you so much for sharing it with me ☺️❤️
the little metal thingie is a mold line scraper. when you assemble the minis, the edges where the casting molds are sometimes leave a fine line of plastic. that little tool is for scraping that tiny line of plastic smooth. on weapons, or armor it's good to check for mold lines, because that slight raised texture will show through the paint.

Lovely to see someone getting into the hobby - plus, so many commenters that have also recently got into it, welcome all. Hope you and your partner have lots of fun. I've been into it for about thirty years now, and still haven't broken the habit 🙂
One part of the hobby I enjoy is converting the occasional model - that is, making little (or big!) changes to them before painting just to make them feel that little bit more personal. Things like swapping heads or weapons, or adjusting the positions of arms and legs aren't too difficult but can make a surprising difference to how things look, and you get to have some models that no-one else will because of those personal touches.

Yeeeeey, good luck. I love to hear of people discovering the hobby for the first time. I`ll follow your progress on you tube for sure :-)
Viel Erfolg mit dem Kanal ⚔️

The first mini is an infernus marine, the second mini is a stormcast eternal from Age of Sigmar (Fantasy). Also, there aren't "just" 61 books for Warhammer 40k, there are 61 books just for the Horus Heresy alone :) If you are into 40k lore (Horus Heresy is technically Warhammer 30k) then you might also want to check out the "Eisenhorn" trilogy.

Welcome!

A little tip from an old dude: write down what colors you use so that if you want to go back and paint more of an army at a later time you remember what colors you used when painting it before. I my self have been gone from the hobby 8-9 years by 1 months ago a vent back.
I hope you will enjoy.
My first army was the Dark Angels (a chapter of space marines)

I've started the hobby a few years ago, it's great to see new people joining, enjoy your journey !!!
@@bobharvey6957 thank you ☺️ how long are you playing now ☺️
@@Baboon-nk4wq thank you for the explanation ☺️☺️☺️

As already mentioned the horus heresy is more around 30k, but anyways pretty damn cool to learn the background of the 40k factions.
Definitely check out the Ciaphas Cain and Eisenhorn books.
They're placed in 40k and are great books to get started.
Other recommendations are
Nightlords, gaunts Geister, Eisensturm.
Btw in spotify you can find a lot of german audiobooks available.
Including the above mentioned
@@kn544 thank you for the recommendation! I will definitely gonna read them too ☺️
The first 4 Hours Heresy Books are the best starting point. War hammer TV is also a nice way to get into lots of animation and stuff. The GE shop should have paint lessons and help you build your miniature. Join a community group close to your house is best advice as it can be difficult to travel with your army.
Oh I think I need to visit my warhammer shop asap to get into a group ☺️ but also the comments here are helping me a lot ☺️ thank you! ☺️
What i did pretty early wich helped me. Good brushes, good color from vallejo(dropper Bottle) and a wet pallette. these tools are so esetial to fun painting. Viel Glück und viel Spass!

Just keep going with the Horus Heresy, I started this year myself and im addicted - rn im reading book Nr 32 - if you finish all of them you can transition to the current books. In total there are many more than just the 61 but they are like the prologue to understand the "current" 40k events!

Also, there are more than 200 books in the black library. Most of them are rather underwhelming shlock, but fun standouts especially for newbees:
-Ciaphas Cain, Hero of the Empire; A laugh out loud book written as a set of memoirs of just a dude trying his best to enjoy life and to weasel out of any dangerous situation and by accident surviving and being labeled a hero against his will.
-The Devine and the Infinite; A laugh out loud book about two very old and very grumpy necron robots pulling pranks and fighting against each over other the course of 10000 years
-Eisenholm, Xenos; A great detective introduction story to the world of Wh40k

Been involved in the WH40k Hobby since the Early 90s Late Late 80s. I LOVE WH40k and have to say with All my Heart welcome to the Hobby Friend, you have just embarked on quite a journey. I Love and it makes me smile to see the excitement in your video. Congratulations, you will make alot of friends, build your skills in the hobby dive deeper down the Lore hole. Im excited for you! That was a Storm Cast Eternal Warrior I THINK and for what to start in the Lore will depend on what you want to get out of it, the Trilogy Starting with Horus rising is a Very powerful starting point. It's the beginning of the most insanely crazy event in Warhammer 40k history the Horus Heresy. Ask Lots of Questions, don't be shy you will have many who want to help
I started 6 months ago with that set and now how 2k points of black templars and 1200 pts of orks, all painted and playing 40k every week now (I started a club in my town!)

Thank you for this great advice! But don’t you loose points when you play with a grey model? ☺️
I didn't play in a tournament for over a year where that matters. But since I can't regularly play on weeknights due to work, i now just turn up to them with what's recently been painted. Booking the day off in advance
