    That’s the set up I use. I figured a tom would get upset seeing a jake with a couple hens. Great informative video my friend. Opening of the video is looking nice and professional keep up the great work!!!

    Great video man, we appreciate the information. Turkey hunting makes my nuts tingle more than anything else; they are such majestic and beautiful birds. Gonna get out there opening morning this Saturday and give it a try. I'll strap on a gopro and see what happens

    Great content and explanation, really appreciate you taking the time to show visuals and explain why you position your decoys which way and what you've seen work and not work. I'm glad you talked about hunting from a blind too, as this will be my first year ever that I hunt from one as i finally saved up and bought a Barronett OX 5 this year. Love hunting birds in spring nothing gets me more excited to be outdoors then good weather and hearing that gobble! Happy Hunting!

    Opening morning, wich is last friday of april in Quebec, a tom, a jake, a feeding and a looking hen. The hunt took 15min. He ran to those decoys like the turkey devil was after him. Our season ends on the 3rd monday of may. Im going tomorow morning. I'll try the 2 hens set up. Monday morning i had a gobbler, well, gobbling, for 1h1/2 hour in the forest ( not the property im allowed to hunt) but never commited in the open. My first year turkey hunting, first morning, had my firts🦃 at 12 yds, with a crossbow, sitting with back to a tree. Best hunting fun of my 45 yrs life!!!

    Early season by me usually means flocked up birds yet which means bigger decoy spreads I’ve run as many as 9 hens and Tom. It fires up the dominate tom in a hurry off the roost. It’s usually a quick tag out for me 1st season in wi on the biggest gobbler on the farm. I need a lot of hens out cause that dominate bird has hens roosted with him and one or two hen dekes just ain’t worth the fight but 9 hens is to him. Landowner preference I always draw 1st season. As I guide my brother and gf later seasons I down size to Jake and feeder hen and breeder hen. I got 6 avians but do have some flex tones to beef the spread up

      Great info. Thanks for sharing. I read a article on this subject once before in field and stream magazine. They had the same concept you do on pulling the mature tom off hens. Sounds like it works good. I have all flextone in my main set but have older decoys I could try that set up with. Once again thanks for sharing and thanks for watching

    Is a Tom decoy even worth it if the jake decoy works better?

    • @pineylife
      @pineylife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually since this video was made I quit using killer B. Main reason is that the Jake decoy is getting the job done and its a lot smaller than the tom decoy. Check this video out that I made at the end of last season. th-cam.com/video/A15lucXWedA/w-d-xo.html

      @@bannin2000 I used killer B tom decoy for many years and it was real effective. But what I started doing was putting a Jake fan on the decoy and boy did that spice things up. lol. I even had jakes fighting him.... If your decoy allows you to change fans and you can get a Jake fan to put on it. Your set. Main reason I went with the jake decoy is because its just smaller and easier to carry.

    HI I have been looking at the avain x jake and hen and I have avain x goose decoys and like them but not as well as my bigfoots, anyhow I keep giong back to the Flextone Turkey decoys I need some new ones so I think after this season IM getting the jake feeder combo and then the upright hen, I really like the way the flextone jake and hen decoys look just as good as avain for alot less money thanks for the great vid. Hello James, The avian decoys are some of the most realistic decoys on the market and the price shows. lol. For the price the flextone decoys are worth every penny. The Flextone breeder chic is a awesome addition this year also. I then jake and chic set up on all three of my tennessee birds this year. I released a video of it and all the kill shots. My personal opinion only:
    Birds are more fun to hunt one on one. No blind. No decoys. More of a challenge. More of an accomplishment to beat him at his own game knowing I did the work myself. I’ve taken 40+ toms decoy free. Middle Tennessee hunter here.

    • @pineylife
      @pineylife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello neighbor. Very impressive and congrats on your success. Everybody does it different but totally understand your point on no blind no decoys. When your running a camera the decoy sure helps keep his attention while your self filming. and of course the blind helps hide movement too. lol. Thanks for watching and good luck this season.
