Thanks for bringing up the kids Pat. There is nobody I would rather hunt with than my kids. Going to try to get my little girl on one over here by Lewiston this spring. Great tips.
THANK YOU. I am very very new to turkey hunting, and it has never been in the family. Me and my dad went out with my blind, two hens and a jake, and a single box call. First time hunting I got my first turkey. Best experience of my life, 9 inch beard. Shot him this morning at 8:43, May 1. Thanks for making a good video on decoys, everybody else confused me 😂 That’s just part of being a noob. I gotta ask, does it feel that awesome every time you shoot a gobbler?
Congratulations 🎉, I'm 42 years old and takin my kids now. Yes it does feel that great Everytime. I think this year has been the most exciting yet. We've had a blessed season with alot of birds 12 to 25 yrds gobbling and strutting their stuff. Watching my son jerk from fear and excitement is priceless. May the Lord bless many of seasons for you! Great job and good luck!!! Remember this when you have kids then you'll know what I'm saying.
Great content! Thank you so much. Which turkey caller would you recommend for early season? Crow ? Owl? Hawk? In Quebec so we finish hunting at noon! Thanks
I’ve killed two great public land gobs over lone hen. I love to fan and us jake decoys but this public land in VA I’ve hunted 10 days straight is covered up with hunters. Yesterday I had to leave early for work and there was 3 other hunters hunting the same two hundred Acre plot. I had no idea they where their because I didn’t hear any calling scary to be using a super realistic Tom or Jake decoy! Great video and subject!
When bowhunting, we usually try to keep them nice and close (10 yards) that way if they hang up just outside of your spread, there's still a good chance they are within bow range.
Can I use a semi agressive jake with a feeder hen and a breeder hen? I have the first two but I still gotta buy a breeder decoy. Or could I get away with the two I already have?
A quarter strut Jake and any hen decoy will have them running in. Most Tom's will lock on to that Jake and come in to give him a thumping, doesnt matter what position the hen is in
Try incorporating a jake decoy with the hen and bring the setup in closer to you. Most toms can't handle a jake with a breeding hen decoy setup. Otherwise, you could try and not use a decoy at all. If they are pressured birds, sometimes they are way too smart to commit fully. One last option would be to have a seperate person calling with you and have them drop off 50+ yards behind you to make the birds work past you, the silent hunter as they pursue what sounds to be a hen in the distance. Best of luck!
Hey Duck Hunter, you can use the standard eastern turkey decoy for pretty much all subspecies in the U.S. and expect great results. It's usually the setup that'll bring them in or turn them away, not the small coloring differences. That said, if you only hunt Merriam, several brands make Merriam colored decoys. Likewise, they would work just fine on Eastern birds.
I love the TC I just bought my third. Don’t knock the old 10ga just because you can’t take the kick anymore lol. I’m getting old too I killed a bird with a 20ga TC this year lol. I guess it happens two us all!
I got drawed for a managed turkey hunt at BUSH WILDLIFE ...IN MO....ON A BIRD THIS MORNING. 7:16 TO BE exact....2 mushroom hunters walked right up on me .....poooffff....hes gone....
I just use a 20 ga free hand and shoot them at 50 yards. Never understood HOW people can miss a turkey. You’ve got a pattern the size of a dinner plate! I don’t get it.
This is a lot of good ideas... I will use them coming up this next week hunting. Thank you

New to hunting going to give it a try with a bow, so my question is how far should I place a decoy from myself?
When bowhunting, we usually try to keep them nice and close (10 yards) that way if they hang up just outside of your spread, there's still a good chance they are within bow range.
What call are you using
What number ammo do you think I should use? I have a 12 gauge
4, 5, 6 shot all work fine
Can I use a semi agressive jake with a feeder hen and a breeder hen?

i hunt mostly subordinate birds and i"ve used a single hen but they hang up at about 70 yards what would you suggest?

does it matter what kind of decoys I have,I live in Colorado and I hunt Merriam turkeys. do I need Merriam decoys?
