Its been 7 years since I've stepped foot into a Do Jang, and watching your videos has motivated me to continue my training and continue being the instructor that I loved being, I loved everything about TKD for so many years even was on my way to my 3rd Dan but slowly drifted away from it. Congratulations on your achievements and please keep cranking out awesome videos!
congrats on the accomplishment and hard work, but you just wasted 6 years. tkd is literally among the most useless of martial arts forms in existence. I was a blue belt in karate beating up black belts in tkd. that was a "black belt club", a dojo with the goal of getting as many people to black belt as they can because every parent wants their kid to be a black belt. I started karate when I was 8 and didnt take my black belt test until 19, jiu jitsu wasn't until 22. 6 years is completely insufficient to even be a green belt. this isnt an insult though, most people are unaware of this. takes courage to join, discipline to stay committed and toughness to succeed. I do not say this because I want to be an asshole but I never want somebody to enter a fight that they are ill equipped to participate in
Outstanding ma'am I'm honored that we can share this with you after all these years and all your advise and videos and love for our sport thank you miss Alex and keeeeeeeep going we all learn from what you share with us and P.S nice brick and baseball bat breaks thanks Alex we are proud of you
I got my 2nd Dan in TKD more or less 17 years ago, A few months after I got my first ever driver license. The tests were more sparring-focused at the time.
Hmm cool, but what's witj the stick, sais and crappling in hogus? Not really Taekwondo. Why was your instructor wearing a Japanese style master Judo belt? Did you get official Kukkiwon rank?
Congratulations and well done! Having just achieved 1st Dan last Sunday, I found it especially inspiring & timely. Time to start my training for 2nd Dan!
Really love to see some one progress in there life.... specially some one who teach others... the only thing that they left behind there life.. Congrats Alex!
Though no one's efforts or achievements should be belittled, however, I am inclined to say that I saw another belt exam video of Enshin karate, which is one of the full contact styles, where the student was literally dying out of exhaustion after being beaten by 10 black belt holders one after another. The 10 man kumite was part of the exam. His teacher was literally holding him up while tying the black belt after he was passed in the exam. Maybe because of these extremely hard conditioning and training that karate practitioners, especially the kyokushin/ashihara/enshin ones have so much capacity to withstand pain.
I am a kyokushin dan grade (exact dan is irrelevant). every style has different reasoning behind how they test and it should not be frowned upon because you may think it is soft. Kyokushin belt exams are like that because a large emphasis is placed on fighting spirit. You should ask yourself what is being tested? technique, endurance, ability to spar with confidence? ability to put combinations together? flexibility? weapons competence?
I have only ever seen tough black belt testing in a one person testing situation. I have never seen group testing for anything actually. Mostly, as my understanding of martial arts is that is it a personal journey. The black belt test is a culmination of blood sweat and tears and it often the thing you struggled with the most throughout your years of training (in addition to weapons/forms/ sparring etc) It doesn’t appear to take a long time (only based on my limited understanding and experience with those in TKD) to achieve a black belt; however, as a practitioner of Kung Fu, I may be completely bias though!! 😁 Great work and effort and dedication to those that tested that day!
Have you ever seen BJJ Blackbelt test in Roy Dean videos? Or Roy Dean himself when he reach 3 Degree Blackbelt? I dont see him being punched or kicked on the head or body to strengthen. Every Dojo had their own test to reach Blackbelt. In my Judo Club, we need to win a Gold Medal in local competitions atleast to go to Brownbelt.
3rd dan. You actually look crisp. I like the energy. For anyone who is nervous focus your practice on intensity, and drill until you feel confident in your power especially in forms. Just follow through on boards, dont stutter in your movement and you'll get more breaks a lot easier. I found so many trash P2W Black Belt videos and you deserve it. Never stop learning.
Bruv pay to win black belts are so many. My taekwondo has kids which have black belts which if you have them a life threading situation, they would not be able to get out of it. Like omg
Congratulations Alex! So happy for you. I think through your channel your fans have learned to care for you not only as a youtube personality but as a person, I'm very happy you've achieved this goal and I hope you'll continue pursuing your goals and dreams!
Congratulations Alex! I was watching your Sparring Videos yesterday before I went to compete in an in-house tournament we had. I just watched your video in 2016 mapping out your journey and it gives me the chills that today you published you getting your second degree. Big ups!
Just discovered your channel, I just graduated to Purple belt and this video was so inspiring. Im excited to check out your other content! Congratulations, ma'am.
Congratulations. I know the feeling of life getting in the way of pursuing certain goals. I, like yourself, took years between 1st and 2nd Dan. I was due to test this March for my 2nd Dan. 2 weeks prior to testing, I had surgery for a health issue that I'm glad was resolved. I'm starting a new job at the end of the month that may likely require me to move. It will take some perseverance but I plan on being able to finish and test for my 2nd Dan. It's not how you get to the end or how long it takes you to get there. What's important is that you follow through and persevere in the end.
Hey just telling im in the philipines i do taekwondo i am doing taeguk 3 i love sparring.I want to ask if you have blue belts in your country cause im a blue belt 😅
Congratulations, a few of my class mates are going for their 2nd black belt in July. I like your skill and I bet you're finding Keumgang a piece of cake, keep it up.
Congratulations Alex, looked like a complete test, which association is your school certified with, amazing performance keep working hard and always teach with your heart
Congratulations! You should be proud of all of your hard work. I just earned my red belt in TKD last Saturday. Your tutorials have been such a great help to me, I can't even tell you. Thanks for all you do! Do you think that you could do a few tutorials on board breaks with kicks? How to set the board up for an axe kick or the jumping side kick, etc. And tips/tutorial on what may be an easier board break (step through side kick) and up to trickiest but impressive board break, etc.? I would love tips on this bc I need to break boards in 2 months at my next testing opportunity. Congrats again, girl!! 🎉🎈🎊
Very good. I wouldn't think you would get a new belt when you advance in the dan ranks although depending on the style you might get a stripe. As for me, I stopped chasing rank after making 1st Dan.
Just wanted to let you know that I love watching your videos. I'm going for my first degree in three months. This helps motivate me. Thank you. Again, congratulations.

My 2nd Degree test was 12 hours long. Started with a 5k run and ended with 5 on one defense. I was 52 years old. I started TKD when I was 46.
