This is by far one of the most incredible demonstrations of old school and new school movements I've ever seen. Crafted to perfection a harmonious flow of lethal action in fluid movement. Congratulations Devin for your achievement. This is earned 10x over. *bows humbly*
@alexandereisen3486 Don't hate on yourself. Everyone's journey is different. For example, I have been training for 16 years and I'm only a brown belt. Embrace the journey ✨️
That demonstration was truly beautiful Jiu Jitsu - he was wiped out before the sparring ever started - man, did he have to dig deep during that rolling and what a way to finish…love this guy…
I started training with Devin back in 2014 in Wyoming. He was always dedicated and putting in the extra work. He deserves all the kudos he getting in the comments. Well done Devin 🤙
These just keep getting better and better. Congratulations Devin! Wear that piece of cloth PROUDLY. During the rolling it seemed like you were a little upset with your performance even though it was objectively incredible. You need to keep in mind that Roy threw a VERY challenging (and fresh) wrecking crew at you - after you demonstrated a couple hundred high-intensity techniques back to back. You showed technical depth, creativity, precision of movement, expansive knowledge, stamina, and HEART. Well done.
The movement is phenomenal. And the guts to do a crucible like this knowing hundreds of thousands will watch it, seeing taps, some of which will have come just from sheer exhaustion after even the demo before rounds. It's crazy how quickly I feel like I know someone and empathize with who I've never met.
This is how you obtain your belt. Not like some others who're just giving away black belts because you've been so good to them. Roy is the best Ive seen so far.
BJJ is the only martial art I’ve seen where the level of skill is vastly different from each belt or rank. It’s also an art that can’t be faked and the belts aren’t handed to the person like a lot of these “McDojo” schools in America today. When you see a person who has a black belt in BJJ you know that dude dedicated his life to the art and definitely put the time in to earn it. I have so much respect for anyone who trains BJJ no matter the rank.
I am just starting my journey in BJJ and I had the honor of being paired against my instructor (brown belt) for a drill because of odd numbers. He took it very easy on me, but even at (idk half power?) I was completely overwhelmed and humbled. I have never experienced something like that. I exclaimed "holy s***" within 5 seconds and then immediately apologized for my language.
Man... the preparation, the perserverance, the musuic, the cinemetography, the demonstration ... these videos are mini works of art. Congratulations, Devin! Roy, you continue to raise the bar!!
Congratulations brother. Its a long road where most give up, especially at blue valley... But you made it...more coveted and prestigious than being a seal.
@@TheHitman- Uh... More prestigious than Navy Seal? I would disagree. Adamantly. I'm a BB, and train with Navy Seals regularly. Blackbelt is cool, but the prestige of being a SEAL is a completely different level. Rolling around with dudes in pajamas (let's be real), isn't even in the same league.
As a black belt, this was emotional. Damn I’m getting old 😂. Beautiful performance and well deserved. One of the greatest ways I’ve seen to bring someone to the coveted black belt. OSS!!
This is an objectively beautiful demonstration of jiu-jitsu "kata". Then y'all threw the gauntlet at him. Very cool tradition of the Roy Dean lineage. Congratulations Devin!
OMG this demo is absolutely SICK - what flow. If I get to even 1/2 of the technique that Devin is showcasing here I'll be stoked. Just insane. BTW let's all appreciate his Blue Belt Uke as well. That's not easy to do, and he played a big role in making the demo so good. Congrats to both, this made my day and has me excited for my session tonight.
I watch all these videos by Roy… I actually teared up at the end… the young man did an amazing job displaying his knowledge and skills and fought through his fatigue towards the end… these tests are what epitomize what being a black belt is all about a level of knowledge confidence responsibility and courage… well done bro…Well done
@carlsonslaughter2653 thanks for the kind words. You called me “young man”, just wondering how young you are? I only ask because I’m older than I look.
Holy crap. What a video; i love how the brown belts and the Professors went 100% not giving him a break. And then the look of humility and respect of not feeling worthy. On another note, Rick Ellis that was video removed me from where I was and totally placed me there amongst the other witnesses. Thank you and Ossssssss. Much love from Sydney
This took me way longer than 25:42 to watch just because I had to go back and watch just how fluid he was in his technique and execution. Amazing work to everyone involved, congratulations to Devin Henry, and thank for sharing!
These crucibles of demonstration leave me star struck at the vastness of Jiujitsu, being a blue belt myself and a brown belt in jiujitsu I really see the fusion of the 2 arts and how they are one … the beauty in expression the perseverance and story each of these show is truly special … this is what jiujitsu really is , you can see how by the end of the session there is a metamorphosis that truly happens … I hope each and everyone of your black belts hold true and carries this tradition on …
Stellar job Devin! You look amazing brother. Your response at the end demonstrates WHY we do combat sports. All the injuries, bleeding, sweating, hours of sacrifice, are for not only that very moment, but the connection to our coach and teammates. The journey is just now beginning and you've got greater things coming! Congratulations!
This Guy is incredible this demonstration of bjj techniques at black belt level is so.edging else how does he remember all that stuff I like to think I one day will be in position to try get a black belt but watching this I'm not sure I could piece it all together and remember and make it smooth like this guy this is AWESOME I know Roy Deans bjj syllabus is authentic this is the gold standard wow
Congratulations Devin👏🏽 You are obviously MUCH more than a gifted athlete... It's crystal clear that you've devoted years and years of your life to Jiu Jitsu and are very ready to wear that Black Belt... I'm a huge fan of what Master Roy Dean does, his BEAUTIFUL Jiu Jitsu, how he promotes his students, carries himself, just an awesome ambassador for Jiu Jitsu and Martial Arts in general... And of course, this video looks and sounds top notch, no surprises there when Professor Rick Ellis is behind the camera and computer...🙏🏽 Thanks for sharing 👋🏽👊🏽🤙🏽
He is so fluid. Precise. I am a 3 stripe white belt and this is beyond inspirational. For the fact, he is built like me and we are close to the same size. He was doing things that I had not thought of that opened up my mind and get me in better positions. Wow. Near the end I had tears in my eyes because I know what it feels like to be that gassed and out of energy. But he just kept pressing on…even to work through that last heel hook. I can’t even describe the respect for tradition. This was an exceptional task. I hope I get to meet this guy one day. Thanks for filming this.
Jeez, Louise, I can't even imagine the amount of practice it took to get the demonstration portion that insanely polished! Wow! Beautiful jiu jitsu all the way around. Seven years ago, at the age of 52, I began my BJJ journey, but quit after 9 months. Now, at age 59, I'm returning. This is inspiring.
so clean and sharp in the movements, beautiful. I always tear up whenanyone is presented their black belt and this time was no exception. Congratz Devin!
No matter how much I know and seen over the years. Watching this makes me appreciate the time and effort one has put in throughout their journey. It's like learning all over again. Congratulations on achieving your Black belt. The Real Journey begins now. - Prof. S. Carn
Beautiful display of techniques in the demonstration. The depth of jiu jitsu never ceases to amaze me, congrats on getting promoted to black belt Devin
There were some really beautiful moments throughout this, but I especially appreciate how deep your display of knowledge is while still maintaining a personality of consistency throughout. Your movements all live in the same environment, independent of old school or new. Really, really well done. As a fellow black belt, I just want to say congratulations and welcome to the new beginning. This was lovely to watch; thank you for sharing.
I have seen all your promotions and I must say this one here got me emotional. I felt his spirit in his presence. Great work 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼awesome Dojo and team support.
As always, absolutely amazing Roy. All your students are showing such a profound tecnical knowledge of the art. Really happy to know you are out there sharing and spreading our wonderful art with the world.
His ability to flow from technique to the next is incredible and is true of all of RD's students - I've watched them for years and am always impressed at their skill!
Just got my brown belt couple months ago and I’m light years behind this guy, wow there’s things I have never seen. Congrats on this huge achievement and being able to flow trough countless positions, submissions, sweeps, counters etc 🔥🔥
Pure precision and smoothness. Professor Dean your style is incredible and shows an accuracy and fluidity that other BJJ styles don't. You are truly a Spiritual Warrior... keep up the Great work 👍
Nice set up to that heel hook. Love the movement by Devin Henry, nice work!!!! And as always, love your videos and black belt exams you post Professor Roy Dean.
Beautiful to watch! Great cinematography, great performance, deep philosophy great job to all involved! And shout out to Professor Roy Dean Oss. And to Professor Devin - Oss. From Wilmington, NC Ethos Jiu Jitsu. 👊🤙💕
Im not one to comment on videos so this is probably comment number 5 or 6 that I have ever made on youtube but this video is beautiful. Devin smashed it, he's flowing, talented, technical, stoic and takes losses on the chin (on the few times that the sparring roll's didn't go as he'd have hoped that they would). Super inspirational video, I can only hope to one day achieve something similar. Good luck to him and thank you for the video.

Could not have said it better myself. Absolutely beautiful.
It was so fluid and beautiful! It was Bjj with your personality sewn in to it 😊 congratz! 🎉❤

I want to give props to the blue belt for dying hundreds of times in this video 🫡
AHAHAAHAAAHHA,
his joints are well cured :D
lol

100 he’s tough as. My knee would have popped about 1772 times.
seriously. Get that guy a beer afterwards at least.
That demonstration was truly beautiful Jiu Jitsu - he was wiped out before the sparring ever started - man, did he have to dig deep during that rolling and what a way to finish…love this guy…

Lost count the amount of times I had to rewind to see how he did something (and I still don't know). Incredible techniques and chaining.
plus one. Devin did some awesome technique. I've saved this to watch back
I don't know why, I let some drop of tears fall from my eyes.
