I am 49 years old and i do 15-20 reps on all sets of all exercises and do a bodybuilding routine. I dont go above 20. Constant tention on almost all reps and get around 2700-3200 calories a day. I am shredded and no injuries. That works great for me. I do compound lifts at end of workout to dodge heavy weight. Just an idea you may can try. Love your channel, keep the great videos coming
@@GerrySkeptic Agreed about biceps bro, those smaller muscles don't seem to need 1 rep maxes lol. Imagine doing sets of 3 for calves, doesn't feel right aye.
Thanks for the truth Ric!! Good to hear from a guy who is down to earth and shares what he knows. Cant believe most these days but I trust you brother. Take care...
Glad to see you trying something new. Personally, I don't go as heavy or light. Try 8-12 reps for most compounds, and 12-20 on isolation stuff. It's a compromise between not going too heavy and taxing your joints, and lighter burning work which isn't so light it feels silly.
Many years ago I attended a symposium hosted by Doug Brooks (look him up guys). He said something to this point. "How many reps to build muscle 6 to 20. How many to gain to tone without hypertrophy? 6 to 20. Basically his point is very and find what fits your frame, body type and movement patterns. Just my $.02.
Mr Drasin excellent as always. And RED PILLED about these social agendas trying to control people....personally I blame demons behind the dolts that do it lol. And Mr Drasin had a number, 7 reps, I always liked that but I went too heavy when I was a kid and joint pain now, but nothing compared to the injuries this champion wrestler (legend) has had. GBU as always Mr D!
Hey Ric.. Thanks for the video and yes it's been raining all day here to over by Thousand Oaks.. I've never seen so many people fill their carts up with T paper and water at Costco.. They actually ran out after 15 minutes of opening in the morning..
I'm fascinated with the sets/reps and "hypertrophy zone" discussion. People should just binge watch your old videos instead of e-mailing you. It's all available on your channel.
Thanks Ric for your views on the coronavirus. I was pretty nervous about it & stressing but your words of wisdom helped a lot. Be safe out there. Keep up the good work.
About this low reps high reps thing.. I don't think its going to matter too much as long as your stimulating the muscle whether it's at the 8th rep or 15th rep..can anybody seriously say that doing very high reps will give you better shape.. Please comment if anybody has experienced this.
There should be no panic over groceries and stuff, but Corona should not be underestimated. I'm from Europe. Look at Italy. In Slovakia we check everyone coming from Italy and put them in quarantine. Masses, concerts and other events are not happening. Schools and universities are closed. It's not a joke. Of course buing stuff in bulk is stupid panic.
Ric...one thing that I have been doing is based on Alpha Destiny's approach..and it's allowed me to make gains. I lift on Tuesday and Saturday. Full Body Workouts. Tuesday is my HEAVY day...and Saturday is my VOLUME day. I turned 40 the other day and this has allows me to recover...pretty well. I've done many different splits..such as the classic(Chest an Tris, Back and Bi's, Upper/Lower, Push, Pull, and Push-Pull-Legs), but I've found this has worked really well for me. What is your view of this type of training?
My reps are based on whether I am training for myofibrils growth or sarcoplasmic hypertrophy. Myofibrils, the muscle cell components that contract the muscle cells, are best trained in the low reps range. The low reps also ensure the fast twist muscle cells are being challenged. High reps emphasize increasing the volume of sarcoplasmic fluid in the muscle cell, with no actual increase in muscular strength. The mix of high and low reps contributes to muscle hypertrophy. If you are into high reps only, the volume of reps must be sufficient to fatigue the slow-twitch muscles, so the fast-twitch muscles are more engaged in the exercise.
Excellent 👍 information Brother Ric! Now, if we could just get them to tune out the " idiot boxes", and listen to their Medical Professionals,we would all be better for it! I too, have been trying the high rep routines. But I would just superset or triset with the weight increase, on each new triset. What ever floats your boat, as long as we just continue with the Iron Science! Cheers Ric and thanks again.
Great video. Yeah it's crazy. People are going to stress themselves out and not sleep and this will affect their immune system and if they get it they won't be able to fight it off...
If your just pushing weight be Powerlifter bodybuilding is contracting and squeezing the target muscle full range of motion of your doing it correctly your weight will go done but you’ll get a better developed muscle ... my two cents.?
Rick I live in Connecticut and everybody's losing their minds. Schools, workplaces, sports stadiums, and stores are all closing. I agree its a mass hysteria event created for some as yet unforeseen purpose.

I know there are many great movements, yet: Why doesn’t anyone do fucking pull ups? Push ups and pull ups are a great superset. Everybody used to warm up back with 3 to 5 sets of 8 to 12 pull-ups with variable grips and widths. Right? BTW: Thanks for keeping the dream alive. We (your fans) are truly grateful for your wisdom, humor, generosity , talents and excellence.
I like similar mate, the odd set to failure, the odd blitz on a body part and take time off, as Mr Leroy Colbert would say (RIP), stoke the fire don't demolish it. And I reckon leave stuff in the tank.
Dear Mr drasin i Have Always seen you as An unbelievable source for information regarding bodybuilding. But about the coronavirus you Are Missing the ball sir. I live in belgium europe and we Have serious problems in our Country even with a lockdown. Your comment was made on date 11 march. IT is now 28 march and i see a catastrofic situation happening in the USA. So stating that IT is OK to Go on busses and planes is not done. Nevertheless you Have my respect about bodybuilding. Stay Safe and healthy sir.
Mr.Drasin we can't create new muscle fibers just repair the ones we use when training thats the way muscle changes by groing.Your genetics decide. All bodybuilders have different body shapes even if they lift the same weights.
Take Coronavirus seriously. We will know in 3 weeks from now how bad it is. Just 3 weeks. It’s silently spreading I’ve stopped going to gym for 3 weeks. LOL same in U.K. no toilet paper.
And what does Ric die from? Covid. Don't listen health researchers who have spent their lives studying these things, listen instead to an ex-pro wrestler, yup that seems about right.

46 years here brother and my reps are going up, biceps are what made me change, they grow more from lighter weight, better form and more reps.

boxerfencer U got it figured out not too many people are savy enough to know that isolation stuff is different than compound training

great stuff Ric, I just turned 50 and I bought Doug Brignoles book and along with diet I love his exercises and I'm pain free so far.

Shoulders & Arms, that is day 3 in my current split, too!
So true about the virus!
Old School Labs hoodie looks great on you. Red color is nice too. 🙂
Good advice Ric! I also like high reps w/lighter weight. Ask Rip Rogers about his high rep training, 😁him and I worked out together for a long time.

RIP sir!
Light weights works if you keep peak contraction constantly tensed for partials fast reps.
I was down to two rolls. I didn't put it off and I bought some new toilet paper. Normally I'd let it slide until I was down to 1/2 roll.

Best approach is use both light AND heavy weight in the same workout
That’s what Doug does
what are your thoughts about the Arthur Jones one set to failure HIT training

They buy in Bulk because if they have it they cant go out for 14 days here in Canada so you dont miss things you need but they exagerate.
Great advice Ric problem is if CNN and MSNBC stopped politicising this thing all would be ok.
Jack Hammer if CNN died it would be great
People behave same anywhere...they buy a lot of toiletpaper etc. here in Germany as well.
These people are called Sheep 😅
I miss Ric..
It absolutely does cause diarrhea. Or in does in a certain percentage of cases. Not 100%, but a large enough percentage.
The wall Street Journal is also toilet paper.
