Super in-depth, fun video here Spencer! Love seeing how you've been able to diversify across Citi, Capital One, AMEX & Chase + adding business as well personal Cards to really maximize your rewards potential! I've been thinking more about putting personal expenses on business Cards so it was definitely reassuring hearing you talk about that- been putting pretty much all of my wedding spend on my Hilton Honors BIZ for the 15K spend to get the FNC. Great video!

Thank you for putting out useful information that helps people other than me no matter where they are on their journey !!!!
Nice flow and pace to your video, it didn’t feel like a 25 minute video when I was watching it. Chase keeps upping my credit line with them. I started with the WoH at $9,400 and 4 months later they upped it to $18,600 (I think there was a bump in between to the 12-14k range). I just got my second card with Chase this past week, it was the CSP and they gave me a $21,900 credit line to start with. I had an 830+ credit score before I took out 3 cards last week.
That's actually a huge compliment. I was really trying to get this one to be one with a story line to it that made it easy to watch so thanks for saying that! And congrats on all the high limits! I guess they reward your really high income / spend which is good to see. Also, congrats on the new cards too!!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial it’s coming from someone who has ADHD and I usually can’t make it through a 12 minute video without fast forwarding. You did a really good job with the video. I think Chase kept upping my credit line because I put $15k of spend on my Hyatt card to hit the bonus of 60k points. I didn’t realize that the WoH Business Card only takes $6k of spend to get 60k points bonus. I did get the 60k points and the free night from the $15k of spend. Now I’ll keep the card from an annual free night for the $95 AF.
@@krs1905 That's great to hear man. Thanks again! And that makes a lot of sense. High spend = high credit limits! Let me know how you like the Hyatt business card! Considering that one has a $199 fee with no free night every year (without high spend) I haven't been able to justify it quite yet compared to the personal version.
Thanks so much Doc!! I'm always happy to talk about my personal experience... that's what it's all about! And don't worry. More coming on that this Sunday!
Dang I'm sorry to hear that! Also, be sure to check if the PNC business card reports to your personal credit. It shouldn't, but it's always good to check. Let me know how those apps go!
Spencer this was so well done and the editing just superbe! It was really interesting to see the breakdown of your credit card journey so far. Thanks so much Clausell! Nice! I love seeing the journey shown in this format. I know you’ve mentioned you’re in AMEX pop up jail. I’d be interested to see some kind of video talking about your experience with it
Great Video man. Before one of your videos popped up on my TH-cam I had only had an Apple Card for the past few years as the only credit card I’ve ever had. With that being said you made me realize how much I was missing out on so I applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred for my first card and because of the 80k offer they had going on. What should be the next card I go after once I get the 80k points? Is it worth getting the chase freedom flex or freedom unlimited still?
Thanks so much Tim! That’s awesome to hear my videos have had a positive impact on you. Congrats on the new CSP man! I’d say the Chase Freedom Unlimited still make a lot of sense if you don’t have a catch-all card yet. That duo with the CSP is super powerful and it’ll serve you well as a card you can use anytime the CSP isn’t earning in an elevated category. That’s just my initial thoughts on the matter!
If I knew then what I know now……..great job following a well thought out roadmap but I’m still waiting on some travel redemptions! J/k man keep up the good work
Thank you! As of right now, I just use the Venture X. The Savor One is a nice addition to it if you don’t have those categories covered already, but it’s less useful to me at this point.
I was able to get a bonus on the OG freedom and then again on the freedom flex a few years later. Got approved for the freedom flex in December..Didn’t realize they were cracking down on that. It worked for me 🤷🏻♂️
Nice! These days you can't apply for the OG Freedom so there's no way to get the bonus on it. But yes they're cracking down on you even being able to product change to it which is definitely unfortunate!
Spencer you are fantastic. I made sure to use your code for my new Chase Sapphire Preferred. I am using this summer to get to the spending limit. I was wondering which would you recommend if I don’t have any chase cards except the preferred? The Freedom Flex or Freedom unlimited?
Thanks so much Miles, that means a lot man! And I really appreciate you using my link too. It helps me more than you know! Congrats on the new card too!! I'd personally recommend getting the CFU if you have no other catch-all card yet. Even just the CFU and CSP alone make a really powerful duo. The CFF is great for those rotating categories, but I'd get a catch-all card first.
Great video man. Thats venture x does seem nice but me and captal one are not exactly friends right now. In that bad bucket trying to get away from QS1. I am interested in the amex amazon but i think after getting the CSP i think im going to chill for a while unless i have to start traveling more in the coming months, in which ill either go platinum or aspire. Speaking of you are missing hilton business. Hmmmmm
Thank you so much! I don't blame you for not being a huge fan of Cap1. This is my first card with them and likely will be my last (other than the Savor One maybe). I like your plan though! And I'm highly considering the Hilton Business... I talk more about that in my video coming out this Sunday! 👀
@SpencerJohnsonOfficial I get a ton of value out of the hilton business. All its missing is grocery and right now is my dedicated fuel and postal card as well as fpr phone bills
@@woodzy883 That's great to hear you get so much value from the spending categories! For me, it would more be a card strictly for the bonus. I just wish it had a free night certificate every year at least... I'd probably apply for it rn if that was the case
Do you ever close cards? Or do you just make sure to put spend on them all at certain times to keep them active? I'm new to the credit card game. I only have chase freedom, but I just got approved for the venture X which was exciting.
So far I haven't had to close any cards yet but I'm not opposed to doing so in the future. I'll always try to keep my oldest few cards open though with small charges here and there. Congrats on your VX approval!!
MaxRewards is a great app, but can be a bit frustrating with the card account connectors, they have been having trouble with Chase, AMEX & Citi. Personally I have had to reset my Chase password 3-4 times in a day due to MaxRewards not connecting correctly... AGAIN, I do love the app when it works correctly and it's significantly better than any of the other similar apps out there, but it does have some issues. They are working on it though, so that's good and I continue to use it myself.
Yeah I completely get where you're coming from. Luckily since I have contacts with them I can always get information to them from the community and I've been on them about connections and random crashes lately and they've assured me they're working on big changes. Like you said though, I think it's the best app of it's kind so I deal with the bugs here and there.
I made the mistake with a Citi card opened back in 2000 in May at age 20 also. It closed in 2015 due to inactivity. That was my mistake. Never doing that again. My oldest card now is the Chase Freedom Unlimited while having a checking account with Chase.
Dang that sucks that it closed for inactivity but it's a learning lesson if anything! Having the CFU as your oldest card now definitely isn't a bad thing either though.
- ya i did something similar. I opened a citi thank you preferred card in the early 2000s. I had a $13k limit on it. But like a dummy i closed it because I thought the interest rate was too high! 🤦🏻♂️ Obviously I was pretty ignorant about credit back then 😆
@@docsays Like I said, mine was forgetting it was open, forgetting to put a small charge like a pack of gum to keep it open and pay it off immediately or through auto pay. Lesson learned. Now my oldest card is the freedom unlimited at age 41 opened 2 years ago on June 22, 2021. Never repeating that again. Putting a small charge, then pay it off along with the added protection of auto pay is your best friends.
Citi is definitely inquiry sensitive on their credit cards. I applied for the custom cash two times and got rejected lol. But i have other better cards. Still want it so im waiting for about 6 months to a year to finally get it
I’ve found that to be true as well! I was lucky to get instantly approved when I applied for it but that’s definitely not the case for everyone. Thanks again for sharing your experience!!
No not at all! You can get approved for multiple in the same day if you really wanted to but I wouldn't advise it. I've made a full video about how often I recommend applying if you're curious.
Why didn't you add the Amex Platinum in this video? Are you currently working on the sub or the pop up jail is in the way? Great cards by the way, Spencer!
I actually don't have the Amex Platinum! More to come on that in the next couple of weeks though... Got some fun stories about that one! Thanks for your support Thi!
I also have the chase student currently. I want the Freedom Flex next - should I product change to the Flex or should I apply fresh to the Flex? If I product change, do I still get a welcome bonus to the Flex? If I product change, do I still only have one card under 5/24 or is it 2 now?
You won’t be eligible for the Bonus offer if you do a product change. You can ask the bank if they’ll make an exception but usually it’s no. Product changes are not counted as a brand new card so you’ll still only have 1 credit card. It’s up to you to decide if you want the bonus or not.
It's pretty solid if you're on team cash back as a catch all credit card for Apple Pay purchases! If you prefer to earn travel miles and rewards then you'd obviously want to take a different approach, but I wouldn't say it's a bad card or anything.
Personally I get the most value from Hyatt, but Hilton and Marriott are both very viable options too! Especially if you're wanting to devote some loyalty to one ecosystem over the other... it all depends on your travel habits really!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial I’m just founding out it’s not really the best idea using a regular credit card to book a hotel… having to sacrifice bonus multiplier with hotel status…
could you get a freedom flex and an OG freedom together? i've got the OG freedom but was wondering if the product change would be worth but seems like you don't prefer it. (currently have the trifecta, Sapphire preffered, freedom OG and unlimited. then the amazon prime rewards visa.
You can hold both the OG Chase Freedom and the Flex! I recommend keeping the OG Freedom as your product changed card so you leave your CFF and CFU slots open for a new bonus,
Hi how are you ? May I know how old was your credit history when you approved for capital one venture X like how many years of credit history ? Also what was your total credit limit you have in your all all credit cards when you applied for this card ? Will appreciate your reply I got chase freedom with 3 K limit last month and then I got 3 days ago sapphire preferred with 7.5K limit approved so I have this 2 cards only with 10.5k total credit limit and credit history is of 1 year 8 months . I got 2 cards from chase in last 1 month and big best card my credit score is 720 with Experian and 680 with TransUnion So can I got for Amex gold now or I should wait ? I am looking to go first time to get in Amex gold Please share your experience Thanks brother
Hi there! Good questions! My oldest card at the time of me applying for the Venture X was 2.5 years. My total credit limit at that time can be calculated by adding up my previous ones which you can find through this video, but I'd guess it was around $20k for my personal cards alone, not counting my Amex Gold card since it's a charge card. For your situation, I would focus on using the cards you have now for 6-12 months before adding a bunch more... especially one with a high annual fee like the Amex Gold. Hopefully that helps a bit!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial thanks bro really appreciate it 1 quick question I have llc and it’s active from last 3 years it’s active and Verizon even financed me with 20K USD limit for credit purchasing devices on 36 month because of my business So I don’t have any business credit card yet Can I apply for any business credit card ? Which one is suitable for me as I don’t have any yet ? Also chase 5/24 Rule also applied to business credit cards ? And business credit card application make inquiry on personal credit report as hard inquiry or shown in our Perosnal credit report or it’s separate ? Let me know please I will really appreciate it Waiting for your reply Regards
In the past I usually do this depending on the SUB I'm spending towards. My natural spend has gotten higher over time which helps with bonuses, but if I need that extra boost then I switch some of my subscriptions to my new cards to help.
How do you transfer points from the Chase Ink card to your CSP? I have transferred points on the personal side and that is easy. Just opened a Chase sole prop checking account and letting that age before applying for an Ink card. I have a separate login for the business checking, and assuming the Ink card would be under the business login. How do you transfer from the business side to the personal CSP? Thanks!
You're able to transfer the points in exactly the same way you do the personal cards. You just have to link your business and personal accounts together by calling them (or finding that option online) and then they should all populate in your business account.
They use proprietary connectors to safeguard your information (similar to Plaid), but you can always reach out to them if you have concerns! They haven't had any big data breach to my knowledge, and my cards have always been safe personally.
Sure thing! Here's a link: spencerjohnsonofficial.com/cardmanager Once you click that, you have to click "Make a Copy" to download it to your Google Drive. I hope that helps!
I currently have a checking and credit card account with BOA. If I wanted to get the chase trifecta, would I also have to create a checking account with chase?
Good question! You can get cards with any bank without having to have their bank accounts. Some smaller banks (like credit unions) may require that, but most of the big banks do not require that at all.
You can connect any card to any bank account in my experience. All of my cards are paid off through my Chase account even though I have cards from 4 banks.
@@kevinyang3006 Yeah for sure! I'm not sure if a full video would be super necessary on just that feature, but I could definitely mention it in one I have planned to make soon. It's really just as simple as linking the bank account to your card and that's it! Once you do it you'll realize it's nothing to stress about at all.
When I hit 100 cards, it was hard to look my wife and children in the eyes…knowing I’d just keep applying. Keep getting deeper into the game. Happy to say I’ve been out of the game for 62 years now. Can’t say the nightmares have stopped.

That Custom Cash card is such a great gas card. ⛽ I think I might dip into Citi after chasing the Amex Marriott Brilliant.
Absolutely man! It's a set it and forget it card for me, that's for sure.
Great credit card journey. Thanks for sharing your story with details.
We definitely need a video of your next targets this year!
Thanks so much Doc!! I'm always happy to talk about my personal experience... that's what it's all about! And don't worry. More coming on that this Sunday!
I just got denied for the CSP due to limited experience with Chase and short credit history (
Dang I'm sorry to hear that! Also, be sure to check if the PNC business card reports to your personal credit. It shouldn't, but it's always good to check. Let me know how those apps go!
I love your credit card journey and the setup you have. Thanks for sharing and definitely interested in seeing what future cards you have planned..
That means a lot Mike! I'm really glad you enjoyed it and I'm excited to share my updated credit card roadmap this week!
Spencer this was so well done and the editing just superbe! It was really interesting to see the breakdown of your credit card journey so far. I remember I originally discovered your channel from your watch me apply BBP video. It encouraged me to finally go for that card and I was approved which I was super happy (and relieved) about. I’m excited to see your roadmap for the rest of 2023 and what you have planned for your channel.
That means a ton Jeffrey. I wanted this one to be really fun to watch so hopefully that was accomplished for at least some of the viewers! That's awesome to hear how you found my channel too. Be excited for my Sunday upload this week... more to come on what cards I have planned next!! Thanks again for your support man!
Hey man, this is some solid content. I’d like to offer some critique if you’re open to feedback. The videos are solid and you deliver them well, and I look forward to each of your videos- but i, as with many others, don’t know you. Maybe I may have missed it but we don’t know what you do, your hobbies, who you are as a person and I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to have background knowledge that differentiates you from Seth Lucas, Mike Roks, and Dave Buck (fictional names). With this video we got some
backstory, but im left wanting more. Thanks again for your content and humility. I truly appreciate it and look forward to watching your next videos.
Thank you so much! Definitely open to constructive criticism all the time. I'd recommend you check out my Q&A's I've posted to get to know me a bit better! I try to sprinkle that stuff in more frequently (and have started doing livestreams as well for this purpose), but it's sometimes difficult to work that stuff into a normal video. You should join the next livestream though! It'll be fairly soon! Thank you again for your support though. It means a lot!
loved the thorough explanation of everything. thank you!
I'm really happy you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for watching.
Great video, great information starting my daughter (18yrs) out on her credit card journey as well she is a student as well I will look at a video a few more times to and decide if Chase is her move but overall once again great content keep it coming and thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much Clausell! I've actually made a full video about the first 5 credit cards people should consider getting depending on what direction they want to take in the credit card game that may be helpful to you as well. Everyone's setup will be different but it's good to learn from each other for sure! Thanks so much for watching!!
26 here 4 cc. Im getting one every year. So far my favorites is chase freedom flex and amex blue cash everyday
Nice man! Those are both really solid cards for sure!
Nice! I love seeing the journey shown in this format. I know you’ve mentioned you’re in AMEX pop up jail. I’d be interested to see some kind of video talking about your experience with it
Thanks Jacob! I'm planning on covering that in a mid-week video here in the next 3 weeks or so, don't worry!
As a 22 year old with 7 cards and using the Chase Trifecta, you have my full support lol
Haha I love it! It sounds like we have very similar setups then.
Great podcast!! it was the soundtrack to my Sunday gym session!
I appreciate you listening in Bob! And nice job getting a weekend workout in.. I need to get back on it this week!
Nice video Spencer! Would be great to hear more about how you redeemed your points for free travel! Love hearing about your card choices.
Thanks so much Ethan! More on that to come for sure.
Great credit card journey! Always curious to see what other people’s credit card journey is and how many cards they have as well.
Thanks so much! I always find enjoyment in that too so I'm happy to share it with y'all.
J/k man keep up the good work
Haha I feel you! Definitely have some redemptions coming up soon that I'll be sharing. Don't worry! Thanks for your support as always man!
You should apply for amex platinum, Apple Card, and Chase Sapphire Reserve
love the video! are you using a supplementary capital 1 credit card to build up points with them? or just the venture x?
- same grabbed a sub for both the OG Freedom & Flex. 👍🏽
Great video!
Thank you so much!
Keep it up bro!
You know I will!
Love getting those business cards to stay under 5/24 and keep me from getting too antsy about getting another chase card!
Business cards are what keep my collector mentality satisfied, that's for sure lol.
Obviously I was pretty ignorant about credit back then 😆
@@docsays Like I said, mine was forgetting it was open, forgetting to put a small charge like a pack of gum to keep it open and pay it off immediately or through auto pay.
I thought you had to wait at least 6 months to get approved for a new card. Well I'm going to start applying for new ones every 2-3 months now.
Good progress😂
I appreciate you!
What are your thoughts about the Apple Card? I love using it with Apple Pay!
It's pretty solid if you're on team cash back as a catch all credit card for Apple Pay purchases! If you prefer to earn travel miles and rewards then you'd obviously want to take a different approach, but I wouldn't say it's a bad card or anything.
Damm that blue business plus seems good
It's a really solid business catch-all card, that's for sure.
What hotel brand do you, or would you value the most as far as the credit cards??? I’m really looking into the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant…
@@IkeVoorhies That's fair! Hotel cards are definitely powerful if you stay at them frequently.
How do you keep what each cc does 😅. I need an organization video 😂
could you get a freedom flex and an OG freedom together? i've got the OG freedom but was wondering if the product change would be worth but seems like you don't prefer it.
May I know how old was your credit history when you approved for capital one venture X like how many years of credit history
?
Also what was your total credit limit you have in your all all credit cards when you applied for this card ?
Will appreciate your reply
I got chase freedom with 3 K limit last month and then I got 3 days ago sapphire preferred with 7.5K limit approved so I have this 2 cards only with 10.5k total credit limit and credit history is of 1 year 8 months .
I got 2 cards from chase in last 1 month and big best card my credit score is 720 with Experian and 680 with TransUnion
So can I got for Amex gold now or I should wait ? I am looking to go first time to get in Amex gold
Please share your experience
Thanks brother
Will Appreciate your response.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial thanks bro really appreciate it 1 quick question I have llc and it’s active from last 3 years it’s active and Verizon even financed me with 20K USD limit for credit purchasing devices on 36 month because of my business
So I don’t have any business credit card yet
Can I apply for any business credit card ? Which one is suitable for me as I don’t have any yet ? Also chase 5/24 Rule also applied to business credit cards ? And business credit card application make inquiry on personal credit report as hard inquiry or shown in our Perosnal credit report or it’s separate ?
Let me know please I will really appreciate it
Waiting for your reply

Out of curiosity when you are going for a signup bonus, do you temporarily move all you're spending to whatever the new card is?
In the past I usually do this depending on the SUB I'm spending towards. My natural spend has gotten higher over time which helps with bonuses, but if I need that extra boost then I switch some of my subscriptions to my new cards to help.
I got the Chase Freedom Unlimited yesterday with a credit line of $18,500 .. sick!! isn't it?
Dang that's huge!! Congrats Omar!
What are the security features around maxrewards? Like what are the chances they get hacked and your credit card information is stolen?
They use proprietary connectors to safeguard your information (similar to Plaid), but you can always reach out to them if you have concerns! They haven't had any big data breach to my knowledge, and my cards have always been safe personally.
Nice I have 8 at 22
Yes sir! 👍
Thanks for being here!!
Spencer, I have tried to open your spreadsheet, but it doesn't seem to available. Can you give me a link to your spreadsheet?
Sure thing! Here's a link: spencerjohnsonofficial.com/cardmanager
Once you click that, you have to click "Make a Copy" to download it to your Google Drive. I hope that helps!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial Could I please get it in Excel as I do not use Google Docs?
@@marilynbetkis2021 Ah yes I do not have a link direct to Excel. You can open it in Google Sheets and export as an Excel file though!!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial in that case, how would I pay off my credit card?
You can connect any card to any bank account in my experience. All of my cards are paid off through my Chase account even though I have cards from 4 banks.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial Oh wow I did not know that. Thank you so much! If you could make a video on how that works, I would greatly appreciate it.
