Hi! A live in Austin as well and I’m debating between getting the venture x or the CSR. I have the CSP and I’m wondering if upgrading to CSR is worth it for the sapphire terrace or no? Currently, that’s the only perk that may lean me towards CSR instead of venture X but unsure if the terrace would be worth it. Thoughts?
Terrace is garbage. No hot food. No hand made drinks, just cans and bottles. and opens at 10AM while every other lounge opens at 4-5AM. Almost missed my flight had to run from the Terrace which is all the way on one side. I am starting to really hate Chase. Promised PHX lounge years ago. Still not open. Avoid Chase.
I personally don’t think it’s worth it. The 3% is pretty mediocre/standard in the credit card game. For example, Chase trifecta can easily beat that and has the flexibility to transfer to partners, making it effectively more than 3%.
While at face value the card seems great, I think the most important concern is that it's from a fintech company and could very likely follow the same path as the Uber card. We gotta remember that when something sounds too good to be true it probably is. I imagine in a year or two they'll raise the price of Robinhood Gold and the card will start to phase out. I wonder how this list would have been affected if it was posted a day later - when the CSR PP Restaurant was cut! That was a big reason why I was going to choose it over the Platinum for my long term premium travel card. I fly through DFW to Mexico and they have a Centurion Lounge, Plaza Premium Lounge, and a few PP Lounges. I would rather pay $550 for the CSR (and various other benefits) and use the Restaurant pass in a PP lounge than to pay $695 for the Platinum (for not as much value) and use a Centurion Lounge. Tough. Gonna enjoy the lounge one year as I make use of the Welcome Offer on the Platinum, then I'll have to consider my options!

I thought that everyone is going to answer that differently based on what they define as an S-Tier card. Those rankings are also going to be subject to change from one moment in time to another. I can definitely see how you ranked your cards for your own setup. I can definitely agree with your ranking of the Amex Gold card and the Bilt Mastercard in the S-Tier because both cards cover your rent and food expenses. For my card setup, I would probably rank the Chase Freedom Flex, Discover It and U.S. Bank Cash+ in the S-Tier, at least for this quarter. These cards are the ones where I am spending the most and all of them are 5% back cards.
The ranking system is very much subjective and I think that's the fun of it! Even if we had the same exact cards, you may rank em differently which is really interesting to explore. I just canceled my Amex Gold. The grocery multiplier isn’t as wonderful as it sounds. Why? One word...COSTCO. After taking out what we spend at Costco (which we budget as Grocery spending), we don't spend as much as I thought at ordinary grocery stores (something I think Amex knows). And everyone knows the lack of value in those dining credits. Lastly, I just never really was able to get that much value from transferring Amex points. That's not Amex's fault but more of a realization of how I would spend money (we're not luxury travelers). Long story short…I can mostly get a consistent 5% back from the Citi Custom Cash on groceries or restaurants depending on the Freedom Cards from Chase. I definitely wouldn't rate the Amex Gold as S tier.
I've been looking at what card to get, and Amex Gold seemed extremely good, but then I saw the small list of qualifying grocery stores and now it's way lower on the list for me.
If I apply for the Amex amazon prime business first and then later on down the road apply for the Amex gold card, do I become inelligable for the Gold card welcome bonus ? (because they are both amex)
Nope! You’re all safe there. There are only certain families of Amex cards where similar language to what you stated applies (the charge cards and the Delta cards). However, you can still get the bonus on all of them if you start from the lowest tier card and work your way up.
Haha tough timing for sure! Luckily it wouldn't change my ranking at all since I have the CSR mainly for the Chase lounge access, but definitely a big blow to some.

So I actually got that Marriott offer. I used my free nights for an overwater bungalow in the Maldives in September 💪🏾. I can’t wait; also got 2 weeks in Japan, Cebu, & Thailand in June. I also got lucky with my BBP I got 75k MR points and 0% APR for 12 months. 😂 I’m sitting in 500k+ Amex points.
I'm only buying Chase Student = dog water if you tell me Oden drinks Fiji water. UR points rock. If you had supporting cards for the Citi quad-fecta - I could see Custom Cash being ranked so high. But stand-alone - meh. I'll keep using my Costco card for 4% on gas - it comes close to wiping out the Costco membership fee.
Hahah I get that! The main reason it was down there was because it wouldn't ever be a card I used today, making it the worst out of all of em. For the Custom Cash, I see where you're coming from. I think most cashback folks would have it ranked pretty dang high with that flexibility and it's served it's purpose really well for me so I have it up pretty high rn 🤷🏼♂
I completely get where you're coming from! Hopefully that PP restaurant access being removed didn't hurt you too bad. It didn't impact me luckily, but I know it hurt some folks a lot.
I responded to your other message above which summarizes my thoughts on that. You can definitely close them if you want, but if there's no good reason to, why would you?
NEVER!! Jk, I always recommend downgrading or closing cards that aren't giving you positive value anymore if they have a high annual fee. However, if they give you positive value there's not much reason to close them considering that would hurt your overall credit limit and eventually hurt your average age of accounts. It's all up to personal preference though!

To reiterate from another one of my responses here, while at face value the card seems great, I think the most important concern is that it's from a fintech company and could very likely follow the same path as the Uber card. We gotta remember that when something sounds too good to be true it probably is. I imagine in a year or two they'll raise the price of Robinhood Gold and the card will start to phase out. That's just my take though!
DUDE, that is awesome!! I may need to join you with my Marriott free nights haha. I need to put those to use. Keep me updated on your travels!
Was that a Spurs flag I just saw? 👀
I don't believe I have my Spurs flag out, but I actually am a Spurs fan, so that's a funny coincidence 😆
Wheres the citi premier card ? And You included a student credit card 😂
My score is one A, one B, and 0 dogwater
Fair enough!
5/24 rule doesn’t make sense at all
It's annoying for sure!
Csr is #1 for me compared to all these cards
I completely get where you're coming from! Hopefully that PP restaurant access being removed didn't hurt you too bad. It didn't impact me luckily, but I know it hurt some folks a lot.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial didn’t hurt me. Not sure why that would be a main driver for the card
Bro just close those cards you aren't using anymore
If he closes them his overall credit limit will decrease I’d say only close the ones with annual fees that he doesn’t use anymore
I responded to your other message above which summarizes my thoughts on that. You can definitely close them if you want, but if there's no good reason to, why would you?
amex gold is a joke come on
👍🏻
He's baaaaack! 👑
Bro you have 12 cards you can let some of them go. Don't be so attached to these cards bro.
NEVER!! Jk, I always recommend downgrading or closing cards that aren't giving you positive value anymore if they have a high annual fee. However, if they give you positive value there's not much reason to close them considering that would hurt your overall credit limit and eventually hurt your average age of accounts. It's all up to personal preference though!
@spencerjohnsonofficial I noticed that you have a dedicated hotel card. Any interest in a dedicated airline card?
You have some 💪 cards! It was great to see how you ranked them and why. Fun video to watch Spencer! Keep up the great work brother!🫵
That's a huge compliment coming from the man himself! You're awesome Cesar!! 👊🏼
