For me my hips, thighs, and buttocks are much larger than I am from the waist up. It's almost impossible to find a dress that fits well up top, but isn't skin tight from the waste down. On top of it, I'm 57 and like to be modest. It's very difficult to find a dress.
Excellent as always, thank you. Being a plus size and under 5'2" and a senior 😮 No No Wow, a lot of run, run, run away 😊 The terrible tailoring/dressmaking, that wouldn't have passed my high school sewing class doesn't help. Hey!!! Designers, I have money, give me something to spend it on. 🎉
I think clothing designers and manufacturers go out of their way to make older and larger women look terrible; horizontal stripes, big, baggy clothing, bright, garish colors, too tight, etc. Thank you for providing some nice, easy tips to help us say "non" to horrible styles!
@@SunnyGirlFloridaAre you joking? Surely you must be. It's only because it's so discouraging that some women finally give up the struggle. Flattering clothes are so painfully hard to find, and fast fashion manufacturers are utterly clueless most of the time.
Yes. I was always great at dressing myself and used to earn many compliments, but since I've gained weight due to my health condition, shopping has turned into punishmrnt. I keep thinking that the designers can't be this blind to obvious wrong choices for bigger women. It rather seems like they want us to walk around in potatoe bags.
No matter how much or little I weigh, I’m still an apple, with a big bust. My legs are long and slim, again no matter my weight. All the weight gain shows up in my belly. These dresses look great for summer. I love wrap style and shirtwaist. Great tips. Thank you!
As a dressmaker, I can tell you that any garment, that is well made and fitted and structured well, esp with natural fabrics, and holds its own shape or defines a shape, will always look classy. Darts in the wrong place, ones that are at wrong angles, not balancing body disproportions or enhancing natural assets of your figure will always work against you. I loved all your suggestions. Lovely
A well made dress will always look classy Roxann definitely 😃, whether it flatters every woman is a slightly different thing 😘 I wish my dress making skills were better 🙁 you have a great skill
That’s my pet peeve! There are hardly natural fabrics anymore-just inexpensive rayons processed with toxic chemicals marketed under the idea of sustainability. They cling in all of the wrong places! 😂
@@carolm4545 Altho i am guilty of using garbage stretch fabrics to lounge about the house in. There are some benefits to them. But in my defense, I bought 2 of these plus size black house dresses, and 4 oor 5 years later still wearing them every day. When they finally die, not sure what i will replace them with. Some items just get more use than others.
@@roxannlegg750 Of course, I do the same thing. I just noticed this trend over the last several years and am holding on to my cottons that still work for me.
I am plus size but i have relatively small bust. I have a large gut and hips. Wrap dresses are so easy to adapt. Ruching is not flattering to anyone, no matter how skinny. Shapeless tents are not flattering to most people. Tailored clothes always look good. I make my own clothes and fit them to cover the lumps and bumps.
Wow! can mean many things, especially in men. We need to be attracted to our men, and that might mean a good sense of humour or just good company. This may have nothing to do with looks and may not be obvious immediately. Just a thought. 🤗
Really great tips Marie!! I have been a plus-size lady for more than 50 years and, as the expression goes, the struggle is real. I am lucky in that my mother (also a plus-size lady) always had a good eye for what looks good on her and I inherited that trait. I have always HATED high necklines (because I have a very short neck) and so I've always avoided them. Tailoring is also incredibly important, as you point out. One of my personal tips is in addition to having a good tailor, if you have a great eye for outfits, find a good seamstress who can make you an outfit you like, that actually fits you. I have had several outfits made and I love them because though they are based on existing items, they have my own unique flair.
Thank you for taking the time to including us plus sizes in your videos. We are generally ignored. You have so much class and style that you have a lot of credibility in my eyes. Your style of dress is fantastic. lol... the busy striped, blocked dress number three... I guess the Dazzle Ship theory doesn't work for wayward figures lol... unless we are out to sea perhaps.
I resisted getting fitted for many years, but my goodness WHAT a difference a properly fitted bra has made. Don't hesitate to do it, it's taken years off my silhouette and all my clothes look 100% better on me.
Thank you so much for this video and acknowledging how difficult it is to find proper plus sized clothing. I’d almost bought the white dress with the verticals lines and tie waist! I didn’t because there is so much trauma from being a plus sized person since childhood. I now know that my mother projected all of her own insecurities on me - any kind of line will be distorted over rolls, anything plaid will make me look like a table, wear high neckline everything because you need to cover every square inch of your body. I hope to see more videos like this.
If one keeps it simple, it's more flattering. Plus it will be in style for a long time. I really liked the thin vertical dress. The eyes go up to the person's neck and face.
I was just thinking plus size ladies need some love. I saw an influencer who is big teaching her ladies to dress like she does. An Apple. Wearing a shirt and pants. I do not understand. No hour glass shape or femininity. And I don’t mean ruffles. Then today you do a great video. Thank you❤
😖Yes, a lot of influencers seem to 🤜push pants, esp. 👖 jeans. Most seem to have an unreasonable contempt😡 of ✂️cropped trousers of any sort too. 😎Once the heat hovers between🌡80°F - 110°F〰️full length pants RARELY see the light of day for me until late 🍁Autumn. The only denim drawers I can tolerate are Daisy Dukes, & that's strictly around 🏡home or hiking🥾. 😊Used to live exclusively in dresses (& skirt suits for the office) like my mama🥰. Nowadays, I wear more separate skirts & skorts. (Blazers can only be tolerated indoors or 70°F or less outdoors.) Pencil, straight, & a-line silhouettes are my favorite. 😘My only exception are 3 fit & flared tiered tea length skirts that I wear w/ankle cowboy boots for Country Western🤠 dancing. 🎉You need a flirty skirt to swirl when you waltz, swing, or two-step🎉. Feel most feminine in skirts, & found a variety of slim, slip-on sneakers that work w/them. 😬Broke my leg & sprained ankle about 1.5 years ago. Skorts worked best w/my thigh high brace (that spanned from the top of my thigh to the bottom of my calf too). 🤫This sporty feminine short protects my modesty during x-rays, exams, & PT too. 🕊PTL, my ankle finally feels normal👍, but my leg is still healing after two surgeries & loads of therapy. 👨⚕️Have another surgery this year, so heels are out for the foreseeable future. 🙂Looking forward to transitioning to other flat shoes & boots when I get more stability back. Meanwhile style takes a holiday〰️my walkabilty & improving my gait are more important factors in my healing right now. 🙏🏾Hope all is well w/you. 💚Bridget from Cali🍀 (using my pal's YT acct)
Great tips. I especially like that you used actual women to display the before and after styles. They showed perfectly the points you were making. I always say it almost doesn't matter what size you are as long as you wear clothes that suit your body shape. It is possible to look fabulous whatever your size and you have displayed very well indeed how this can be achieved.
You are the master Marie-Anne💕 Looking at the difference in different style dresses is very noticeable and made me ooh and aah. Truly, every woman can be chic. ❤
I think part of the problem is that many people think if it comes in their size then they should wear it Another huge thing is most manufacturers just take a dress that's perfect in a 6 and make the dress a 22 without making the pockets proportional, buttons bigger, etc. clothes that are actually designed for a size 22 look so much better than a size 6 made bigger. There's my thoughts.
Thank you. My biggest problem with dresses is that I have a smaller bust and a large round belly. Most waistlines actually hit me at the widest part of my body and end up looking ghastly.
Try to buy separates, even ones that match and thus look like a dress. I have a floor length chiffon skirt and Palazzo pants, both in black. I wear them with tops that either fit and flare and come to the top of my thighs, or very simple straight tops that hit just below the widest part of my belly and bum. I just bought a top like this that was completely sequined. Of course, this is for the opera, not everyday wear!
Forgot to say that the skirt was purchased at a thrift store, in perfect condition, and the Palazzo pants were a gift from another plus size friend. So we don't have to spend a lot of money. Sometimes it is just a matter of luck.
I guess I already knew this without knowing that I did. My favorite outfit has long been my collared button-down off-black fitted shirt with chalky-white vertical stripes, worn with blue or black jeans. I bought that shirt for $3 20 years ago at a Goodwill store, I think! Every time I wear it, someone says I look nice. I never knew why it was flattering, now I do -- It's the V-neckline, the vertical stripe, and the fitting that gives me a waistline I don't actually have. Thanks, Marie-Anne!
Good sound advice for the plus size ladies Marie-Anne, whatever figure we have it’s important to dress it properly. By the way love your sweater, waistcoat and pendant. As always thank you for the tips.
So, I’m 26, but I stumbled onto this video… and I was about to click away when I fully read the title, “for over 50”. But I was like nah, I’m gonna stay, I love her accent. Little did I know I’d come away with some of the most practical advice I’ve heard that isn’t “just wear black”. Thank you!
Oh thank you, thankyou dear Marie-Anne for these style tips and for finding us some lovely dresses - it must have taken you ages to find those plus size pieces but they are much appreciated. As a plus size 70 year old I certainly have to be careful about what I wear and I usually opt for trousers as a safe bet but I have found one or two dresses which fit me and look good. I also sew and a few years ago I found a pattern for what was called a cocoon dress, with a scooped neckline and a shape which came in just at knee level. I made it in African waxed cotton and it was so comfortable and quite flattering. It seems to be more important for us ladies over 50. A friend of my daughter's, in her 30s, is a very large (and lovely) girl. I once noticed her wearing a 50s style cotton dress with a fitted bodice, a slim fabric belt and then a glorious full skirt/ She wore it with confidence and grace and she looked great in it because of her huge personality, her youth and I think because that fitted bodice and nipped in waist, gave her a silouhette. Not for us over 50s though! xx
I work in a national retail chain for plus sized women. It’s unbelievable how many pieces come in with horizontal stripes. Many garments are not suited for our larger shapes. Who the hell is designing this & why aren’t there more appropriate choices? Would love to know…
Thank you,Marie Anne, for these great tips. I am looking for dress to wear at my granddaughter´s baptism. I am not totally plus sized but big busted. ❤
It is very difficult for me to find flattering plus size dresses, because what's generally available look to be designed for the immodest individual, circus performers, or worse. This includes the offerings at "upscale" stores. So frustrating. Thank you Marie-Anne for including big women who appreciate true style.💖
Thank You Marie Anne! Thier’s tips and examples are excellent. Some things I know… but hanker after all the same. Lies that I have told myself: “tight is slimming”, “tiers are feminine”, “ruching is elegant”. You helped show the truth: Non! As always, I really appreciate your explanations. Kind and firm. “Elongate the silhouette” is a superb tip! With much love and appreciation for your wise advice!
I became plus sized in my 50s with menopause. I used to be a pear with a small bust, delicate shoulders and large hips. That was hard enough for finding dresses, but now I am more bell-shaped with sloping shoulders, protruding belly and small bust. It’s impossible to find nice dresses. Would love some help with this! Great video by the way and I agree with all your points. I don’t understand why designers want to squeeze us like sausages into short, tight dresses that show every bulge and big knees! The flowing longer dresses you showed are exactly what I look for and never find. Like another woman has said here - it’s as though designers really hate plus-sized women and want us to look ridiculous!
I keep thinking about the problems I had finding appropriate clothes for the formal weddings of both my sons, about five years apart. One dress was a fail (too frilly), but the other was a smash hit. I still have it, and it ticks most of the boxes in the video. But finding things was an ordeal. They want to dress plus women in your "no" styles, and those are what can be found in most department stores.
Also, lighter colours expand the apparent size of the wearer & darker colours make the wearer slimmer. Ending hems at the narrowest part if the legs makes the wearer look slimmer, but ending it at the widest part of the calf, acts similar to a horizintal stripe, drawing attention to width. The slimest part of the leg is right below and just above the knee.
These are really lovely dresses. I tend to find v neck lines are too deep for me and show my bra. So I compensate sometimes by pinning and or wearing a statement necklace. I also tend toward more of a Bohemian style, which at my age sometimes looks silly. The necklace lets me indulge a little. I love your necklace, by the way. Thanks for this video!
The reasons why my (now 9 old) granddaughter loves france: the architecture, the meals, the weather, the lakes and the stores/shopping-centers. One day she said to me she's feeling like a princess when she is in france with me. She loves to do it that way: first go shopping, buying a wonderful princess-dress and a pair of shoes. Then go with me to my fav. parfume-store and get a tester of her fav. parfum (Miss Coco or Petite Robe Noire Rose Cherry). After that having meal in a restaurant (loves french way of cooking). Then going on a sighseeing-tour with the petit train touristique. Then we drive home or (if we are far away from our home in germany) drive to our hotel. This trips (we do it one up to three times per year) seem to be highlights of her year. And this trips seem to be the most effectiv booster for her to be good (best) in school. ;-) Beeing a princess - she loves to watch the pictures we've taken.
This advice is great! Im 5'3 and a size 12-14 (depending on brand) and very curvy. Its always very difficult to find outfits that tick off all the boxes, but this video is pure gold. Thanks so much! I just subscribed 😊
thank you! This is very timely as I have a baby shower to attend and as a co-hostess I wanted to dress a little more than casual. I loved that last chambray dress shown with with v neck. I've been shopping this am and it is amazing how many dresses are thoroughly unflattering for plus size women yet available in their size!
Thank you for this video! I am struggling to find nice dresses for work, that are comfortable but flattering and professional. This video gave me some good ideas.
I love that your advice matches my natural inclination. Until very recently, I hid my shape beneath shapeless, oversized garments. An off hand compliment from my daughter showed me that I can still feel pretty at my age.
Thank you so much for providing tips for us plus sized ladies. Not much content and what's available is geared toward youth. This was very helpful and I appreciate you explaining "why" these tips benefit a plus sized woman.
I'm a plus size over 60 lady. I love the Bohemian style with it's easy-wearing flowy look. My question is: would you consider recording a video about how to wear this style without looking like you're wearing a sack? Can boho also be semi-fitted? Thank you.
It is a video of great value, not everyone can slim down, but we still want to dress better! I wonder if those dresses could be worn with a pair of sneakers and a blazer ( to work in a place where one has to walk a lot ) and look relaxed-formal for example. Merci beaucoup 😊😊
😊Hi. I'm from 😎LA where casual rules the school. Plus, our extreme heat🌡 makes being comfortable a top priority. You'll see trainers w/almost any kind of dress here today. Although sneakers👟 were strictly FORBIDDEN even on Casual Friday when I last worked for a Fortune 500 Company. Post pandemic😷office standards may have relaxed AFTER remote work. 😉It still may depend on the industry or department as well as type of work you do, & whether or not you see clients. When I worked for a well known Entertainment Co., it was very corporate & formal in most divisions & departments. 🤏There was some flexibility in ✍️Animation & 🎞Film/TV📺, but typically that was only allowed if you were in actually in a creative role or laboring 🎬on set. Otherwise, business dress code standards. 👔For men, neck ties & jackets were only required at certain level meetings. Day to day, women could wear professional dresses w/a blazer vs business suits. Of course, in departments like Legal, Accounting, Finance, & HR there was always less dressing flexibility. If you had any aspirations to advance, you always had to dress like your boss👨💼 or your supervisor's 👩💼boss. It would be fascinating for Marie-Ann to cover this topic from a French perspective in 🇫🇷France. Walkability seems to be a priority in the 🇬🇧UK, but not so much in the 🇺🇸US. They would rather torture women in the workplace in heels👠. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
@teresacarle294 I'm grateful for the thoroughness of your response! My role involves engaging with clients at multi-day events, typically spanning three days at trade fairs. While the atmosphere is casual, as the person in charge I want to have a look that conveys professionalism while being functional. Due to chronic tendinitis I cannot tolerate heels or even boots, Mary Jane pumps and Loafers... I actually use thin looking sneakers in off white made for Athletic march :) That was my best solution trying to unify my need for comfort without compromising style. In my quest for balance, I found Marie-Ann's channel to be a treasure trove of insights, helping me build a foundation of proportion and effortless elegance that aligns with my personal style aspirations. Loving french chic, the "less is more" approach and uniqueness, I hope I can learn more and hopefully curate a professional wardrobe that is suited for my needs and reflects my personal touch. Madame Lecoeur, merci beaucoup! 😘✨✨✨
Any suggestions for chest wrinkle coverage/camouflaging? I love v necks and wrap around but since the appearance of the wrinkles I’ve been avoiding them. I tried the silicone chest pads but had a bad reaction to them.
Thank you for showing plus size models in the dresses. I have a large Bust And an hourglass shape. But I wear a size 12 or 14 and because of my large bust occasionally a 16 and it’s sad that that’s a plus size but it is what it is. Thank you for your suggestions. I appreciate it. ❤
This video is a gem. I learned a lot It's such an informative content I've learnt the most from it I haven't learnt this much in a while Thank you so much
😊Agree. These principles apply to us all no matter our exact size or shape. The beauty of style rules is that you can BREAK them too. Thankfully, there are often work arounds 🔁 or ways to mitigate the negatives when you rebel from the recommended course too. 🤔Prefer turtlenecks, halter necks, & high crew necks to cover cleavage〰️ so I look for ways to use toppers or simple statement necklaces to bring the minimizing or ideal triangular 🔻🔺️ shapes &/or vertically ⏸️ slimming lines back in. 😉I'm not morbidly obese, but w/my extreme hourglass⏳️ proportions, I struggle w/feeling fat😔. The wrong silhouette, cut, color, or pattern can 🪄instantly add visual heft ↔️ that my curvy figure can't afford🤨. 👗The dress is certainly best on my shape, but I prefer wearing skirts nowadays. Whether in skirts or trousers, I have always felt slimmer & elongated in presenting that continuous column of vertical color ↕️ as 👩🏫Marie-Ann advised here. Choppy color combos (i.e.,👚🩳🥿) create unflattering horizontal ↔️ lines😔 that won't do me any favors. #️⃣1️⃣ Monochromatic Dressing is my favorite Fashion Formula, but I have been slowly shifting from matchy-match to tonal monochromatic. 🤔Think it adds much more depth & interest to vary texture & tone. 🎉Happy Styling!🎉 💚Bridget from Cali🍀 (using my pal's YT acct)
I have a large bust and im plus size. Its almost impossible to find a dress that flatters and doesnt look like im bursting out the top. I tend to look for strech fabrics and or go up a size. This means im often tayloring it to fit better. Your advise is spot on. Thank you ❤
Bonjour Marie-Anne. Thank you for this helpful video. Sadly I don't wear dresses because I am large busted and therefore a bigger size on the top half than the bottom half! I am also only 155cm tall so most dresses are far too long on me. I'd love to see some videos specifically for short women please.
I have a large bust and discovered years ago that v necks, scooped neck, cowel neck, crossover tops and square necklines work well on me. In my work wardrobe that’s all I had in fact I bought 6 dresses in the same design but different colours all with cross over top which I could wear with jackets or trench coat. I don’t buy button front tops as the buttons bulge on me.
I’m so happy to have found your channel. Never before have I found anyone with oral advice for plus size women. Your advice is spot on. I have also found that clothing that. Is too baggy, too big, or I’ll-fitting also makes me look bigger AND sloppy.
First video of yours I’ve ever seen, absolutely loving it! I’m 52, size 18-20 UK, and stuck in an awful fashion rut. I’ve no idea which direction to go in but wow, I’m gonna binge your videos! Merci merci ❤️❤️❤️.
You are spot on about the stripes..i love a wrap dress....am not a plus sixe but i do have a tummy..... your advise do work i have been doing it for years.
Thank you so much for your detailed explanations. It truly is difficult to find flattering styles when looking for plus sized fashions. I appreciate that you used plus sized models in your examples. While I don't particularly care about looking thinner, I do care about wearing things that are well suited to my body, especially as I get older.
As a full figure lady, I really appreciate your understanding and encouragement to get the proper fit and style. Even when I was young and athletic, I was not confident enough to always show off my hourglass figure. Merci Marie-Anne for your excellent videos!
Plus size women should wear flare bottom pants is what I've been told. I've also been told I should wear shorter jackets and sweaters because I'm so big and short!
Accessories can help too. Jewelry like your fantastic necklace breaks up the space and draws the eye to the face. :-) Thank you for another great video!
I would love to see a video for those of us who carry our weight in the thighs and calves. The top half of my body is very thin but all my weight is in my legs. What are the best lengths for dresses and skirts? How do draw attention away from cankles?😂
I’m all butt and leg so I know what you mean! 🍐 i would also be interested in a leg video. I’ve had a lot of luck with a wrap dress similar to the video. A true wrap dress, not the cross-over kind that are often labeled wrap. It makes it very adjustable. I feel the need to always wear dark, opaque tights though. Something to hide and squish in the legs.
The selection for plus sizes is really dismal, it’s very unfair. Nearly everything in the size 14 and up range is black and made of sweaty cheap synthetics. Plus, many high-quality brands I love just don’t offer anything sized larger than about a US 8/10. When my weight crept up to put me close to a size 16, I realized I had to slim down, not just for my health, but for the pleasure I get from my wardrobe. I walked 60-90 minutes six days/week, and eliminated all simple carbs (grains and root vegetables), which isn’t easy. I had already given up all sugar and don’t drink alcohol. This approach worked for me, I lost 50 lbs. and am still losing more weight even though the weather where I live hasn’t allowed me to walk outdoors much for months now. In fairness, outdoor walking might not be possible for every one, but I live in California. Walking/jogging in place, using a treadmill or stationary bicycle or aerobic dance are good indoor options. Never give up trying to reach a healthy, slender weight!
thank you for the video MarieAnne - very good advise, but it is so so hard to find clothes in v neck/low neck that are plain and simple, in good quality materials and colours that suit you and which you can afford. As per another comment, especially if you are over 60, under 5.2 with a big tummy these clothes are hard to find. And i like Bretton tops and tshirts which dont suit larger sizes
Bonjour Carol - I totally agree - which is why my advice is always if it is not a Wow it is a Non! no matter how much you need something always walk away if it is not flattering😘
I’m petite, slender, but (naturally) a little bustier than average for my size. I almost always wear a more open or vertical neckline, as you suggest, they both visually correct the proportion of my bust and they make me look taller, every time. I will wear a crew or turtleneck in very cold conditions if really necessary for warmth, but I just don’t look or feel my best in them. (Turtlenecks emphasize my genetic slight double-chin, too, and are itchy on my sensitive neck skin, but I love the look, otherwise, especially with a blazer and skirt or trousers). As far as I’m concerned, looking longer and leaner is always a style priority, and I can’t wear high (3 inches or higher) heels, but I wear comfortable, mostly block, heels of around 2-2.5 inches whenever possible. Thank goodness, much more footwear with these medium heels are finally available. The best thing to come from the pandemic is that brands are finally offering wearable, lower-heel shoes! I suffered so much during my career because the only choices were high heels or ugly flats! (I found the “comfort brands” of that era to be no better).
There is one exception to the neck line recommendations and that is: The Boat Neck. This neckline covers, yet flattens the bust visually! The rest of the covering necklines is indeed not flattering and flattening for a big bust.
A question: for elderly women (i am 80) who want to look well in their clothes, though legs this old need to be covered or camouflaged, and shoes worn with good support and no higher than 1-1.5”. Many of us let our hair go grey or streaked with grey (i do.) and wear brighter accent colors, for instance as neck or shoulder scarves. Do you have suggestions for us?
Bonjour Jean - yes indeed - I have very many French Chic Ladies in their 80s and even 90s and they love dressing Chic using my authentic French Chic tips and advice. It is all about dressing for your shape, making sure you choose the right colours for your complexion (I don't mean buy getting your 'colours' done) and then letting your style develop 😃
Body con dresses can work though, with a nice blazer , cardigan or bolero though. A lot of the longer styles don't work on short people too. I'm only 5' with a big tummy so my options feel really limited even though I'd love a summer dress.
Marie Anne, I have been following you for quite some time. I get a little frustrated because I am an hourglass figure and it does not seem that french chic can really work for me. I love simple, neutral colors, which is fine. But I also love the ruffled blouses with the billowy sleeves. I am afraid to wear buttoned down silk blouses so I usually end up wearing V Neck knit tops all the time. Jackets and blazers make me feel constricted and chubby. I am not sure what to do but I would love to wear things other than my V neck knit tops and capri yoga pants.
Bonjour Anne - I can understand your frustration. I assure you French Chic is for everyone. You need to stick with your style objectives but within the restrictions you can express yourself as individually as you want. You may like to consider this www.marieannelecoeur.com/hourglass-shape-ecourse.html
It's great that you used lovely, tall plus sized models however, do you have any advice for plus size short people? It's a whole different ball game when you are under 162cm in height.
I am rather stuck with the models on the sites Cocojo but the advice remains the same ie try to create the illusion of height and slimming down. I am always doing my best to find other sites with other models x
Marianne, if one is very curvy, vertical stripes are dreadful. One's bust makes the stripe bend. (Edging is fine, though).I have discovered, over the years, that chevrons are terrific, if you can find them.
Great tips! I suppose most women commenting are older than 30 because the new generation cannot stand being told to be thinner, fatter etc. everything is seen as a micro aggression ( whatever that means) on their egos. So you see people wearing all kind of ridiculous outfits just to prove a point. But I will take elegance over nonsense any day. 😊
thankyou for sharing your tips for plus sized ladies . i am not a plus size but its important that styling advice is included for the plus size ladies and yes the models inn the dresses looked slimmer with the style advice tips applied

The terrible tailoring/dressmaking, that wouldn't have passed my high school sewing class doesn't help.
Hey!!! Designers, I have money, give me something to spend it on. 🎉
I hope the designers are listening 😃
I know what you mean. I'm 5'2", plus, and 70 years old .
Thank you for showing plus size models wearing dresses. Most catalogs show models wearing misses sizes, no help for an apple shape. Thanks again.
You are welcome Janice x
I think clothing designers and manufacturers go out of their way to make older and larger women look terrible; horizontal stripes, big, baggy clothing, bright, garish colors, too tight, etc. Thank you for providing some nice, easy tips to help us say "non" to horrible styles!
I think you are right Mrs M x
Maybe, that's what most older or larger women want.

THANK YOU for using plus-sized models! Merci!
“If it’s not a Wow, it’s a Non!” Best advice for clothes, desserts and men! ☺️
😘 remember you heard it here first Vicki 😉
Wow! can mean many things, especially in men. We need to be attracted to our men, and that might mean a good sense of humour or just good company. This may have nothing to do with looks and may not be obvious immediately. Just a thought. 🤗
@@anniemc459 for sure!
Agreed 😊😊
You're so smart
A good seamstress is worth her weight in gold 👏 keep sharing your life lessons ma chère 😘
These tips are helpful! Thank you for using plus-sized models
😘
That's a beautiful waistcoat and love your long necklace pendant, it looks lovely over your turtleneck sweater, Marie-Anne. You look so chic. Merci ❤
Merci AW 🤗
Thank you for taking the time to including us plus sizes in your videos. We are generally ignored. You have so much class and style that you have a lot of credibility in my eyes. Your style of dress is fantastic.
lol... the busy striped, blocked dress number three... I guess the Dazzle Ship theory doesn't work for wayward figures lol... unless we are out to sea perhaps.
You are very welcome Liz 🤗
I’m a normal/slender weight, but I know I can benefit from all your great ideas, dear MarieAnne! ❤
Merci Kimberly - good design flatters everyone 🤗
Such good advice as always Marie-Anne. Properly fitting under garments are so important for all body shapes. X
Yes indeed Jennifer 👍
I hope it has given you some ideas to move forward on your style journey Ms P 😘
If one keeps it simple, it's more flattering. Plus it will be in style for a long time. I really liked the thin vertical dress. The eyes go up to the person's neck and face.
Simple is always best Manon 😃
I really liked that dress too.
The only denim drawers I can tolerate are Daisy Dukes, & that's strictly around
🏡home or hiking🥾.

I am glad you enjoyed the video 😘
Honestly, Marie Anne, most of these tips are equally beneficial for petite women with curves, regardless of their size/weight. Merci bien. :)
Bonjour Karen - yes indeed - lengthening and adding height is great for Petites as well 😃👍
Please more of this subject 😊
I will see what I can do Arabella 😘
I think that the vertical stripe down the center from a row of buttons or piping made the biggest improvement.
Great tips. I especially like that you used actual women to display the before and after styles. They showed perfectly the points you were making. I always say it almost doesn't matter what size you are as long as you wear clothes that suit your body shape. It is possible to look fabulous whatever your size and you have displayed very well indeed how this can be achieved.
I am glad you enjoyed it Karen and I agree it is perfectly possible to look fabulous at any age and any size
Wrap dresses are so flattering and wonderfully forgiving on all women. And they can be dressed up or down by swapping out accessories. Love them!!
❤️
They look awful on me. I’ve got a large bust and they always struggle to cover it, leaving me looking like a porn star.
You are the master Marie-Anne💕 Looking at the difference in different style dresses is very noticeable and made me ooh and aah. Truly, every woman can be chic. ❤
Yes indeed - there is nothing in the rule book of chic that says some people may not apply 😘
I think part of the problem is that many people think if it comes in their size then they should wear it
Another huge thing is most manufacturers just take a dress that's perfect in a 6 and make the dress a 22 without making the pockets proportional, buttons bigger, etc. clothes that are actually designed for a size 22 look so much better than a size 6 made bigger.
There's my thoughts.
Indeed you are right Kelsie - one design does not fit all!
Brilliant! I am not plus size (but close to it) with a broad ribcage and broad shoulders and these styling tips are so helpful!
So glad you found them useful 😘
Thank you. My biggest problem with dresses is that I have a smaller bust and a large round belly. Most waistlines actually hit me at the widest part of my body and end up looking ghastly.
Have you tried Sumissura the online tailoring service? They are good value watch here th-cam.com/video/p9Us0HR2v1E/w-d-xo.html it may be an option x
Maybe empire waist dresses would work better.
You are very welcome 🤗
I love that you paid three dollars and have worn it for 20 years and still get compliments! Now that was a value.
@@magdlynstrouble2036 Me too! 😄

Thank you!
Bonjour Claudie - I am very glad you stayed and enjoyed the video 😘
Thank you. I am not a plus size women, but I know some of them. This is a great video for this women.
Merci Dragica - I hope you will share xx
Not for us over 50s though! xx
It did take me a while Steph 😃 bujt it is worth it for my lovely ladies ❤️
Great video Marie Anne! these styling tips also help with styling for body shapes as well!
You are very welcome Keodi1 x
I work in a national retail chain for plus sized women.
It’s unbelievable how many pieces come in with horizontal stripes.
Many garments are not suited for our larger shapes.
Who the hell is designing this & why aren’t there more appropriate choices? Would love to know…
Those are things we would all like to know 🙁
Merci! Yes, it is so difficult to find flattering dresses, especially in natural fibers.
It really is KJ I am doing a follow up and the search is endless which just highlights the problem 🙁
My “go to” are dresses with V neck or a collar, and a- line, solid colors
Thank you,Marie Anne, for these great tips. I am looking for dress to wear at my granddaughter´s baptism. I am not totally plus sized but big busted. ❤
Check out Kiyonna or Arula they might have something you like
I hope you have a lovely day Martina x
It is very difficult for me to find flattering plus size dresses, because what's generally available look to be designed for the immodest individual, circus performers, or worse. This includes the offerings at "upscale" stores. So frustrating. Thank you Marie-Anne for including big women who appreciate true style.💖
You are very welcome Steemdup 😘
“Circus performers “ 😂
Thank You Marie Anne! Thier’s tips and examples are excellent. Some things I know… but hanker after all the same. Lies that I have told myself: “tight is slimming”, “tiers are feminine”, “ruching is elegant”. You helped show the truth: Non!
As always, I really appreciate your explanations. Kind and firm.
“Elongate the silhouette” is a superb tip!
With much love and appreciation for your wise advice!
You are very welcome Vivien - sometimes as you say we know but 'forget' - I will always say it as it is with the very best intentions 🤗
I will see what I can do for you JoJo x
I keep thinking about the problems I had finding appropriate clothes for the formal weddings of both my sons, about five years apart. One dress was a fail (too frilly), but the other was a smash hit. I still have it, and it ticks most of the boxes in the video. But finding things was an ordeal. They want to dress plus women in your "no" styles, and those are what can be found in most department stores.
Exactly right Anne - it is so difficult to find flattering styles 🙁
Excellent tip - thank you for sharing x
I am so glad you both enjoy your time in France ❤️
This advice is great! Im 5'3 and a size 12-14 (depending on brand) and very curvy. Its always very difficult to find outfits that tick off all the boxes, but this video is pure gold. Thanks so much! I just subscribed 😊

thank you! This is very timely as I have a baby shower to attend and as a co-hostess I wanted to dress a little more than casual. I loved that last chambray dress shown with with v neck. I'm a plus size over 60 lady. I love the Bohemian style with it's easy-wearing flowy look. My question is: would you consider recording a video about how to wear this style without looking like you're wearing a sack? Can boho also be semi-fitted? Thank you.
I have never worn Boho Anna so I don't feel qualified to style it 🙁 I have seen it on others look very good 😃
It is a video of great value, not everyone can slim down, but we still want to dress better!
🤏There was some flexibility in
✍️Animation & 🎞Film/TV📺, but typically that was only allowed if you were in actually in a creative role or laboring 🎬on set.
Walkability seems to be a priority in the 🇬🇧UK, but not so much in the
🇺🇸US. They would rather torture women in the workplace in heels👠.

I hope to do more like this covering all sorts of garments 😃
@teresacarle294 I'm grateful for the thoroughness of your response! My role involves engaging with clients at multi-day events, typically spanning three days at trade fairs. While the atmosphere is casual, as the person in charge I want to have a look that conveys professionalism while being functional. Due to chronic tendinitis I cannot tolerate heels or even boots, Mary Jane pumps and Loafers... I actually use thin looking sneakers in off white made for Athletic march :)
That was my best solution trying to unify my need for comfort without compromising style.

I'm 158cm, 51kg, apple shape, slim legs, and arms. I don't believe that wearing a belt flatters my shape.
All my Apple Shaped students and clients agree that it works well 🙂
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Hi Marie Anne, so should I continue to avoid a belt on my apple shaped waistline? 🤔 I love your channel, thank you!❤️
I agree, a belt doesn’t work on my figure.

Spot on as always!! It is truly amazing how much better your choices looked on these lovely ladies.
🤗
A lot of this advice applies to non-plus size women as well. Almost all women can use lengthening and slimming tips!
🎉Happy Styling!🎉

Brava Susan 👏
This lady is giving such excellent information. Plus size garments are usually dreadful and certainly not for the older ladies.

I will see what I can do Susan x
I'd go for a length just above or at the knee because that's a slim part of the legs.
Merci for sharing your weight loss journey Kimberly - it is an ongoing battle for many of us 😘
That's very inspiring..
Sadly some people put weight on because of medication & no amount of diets or exercise can solve this problem.
Love your channel! I'm a 59 year old woman and I really appreciate your advice, seriously good advice. Thank you for your efforts.
You are very welcome 😃
thank you for the video MarieAnne - very good advise, but it is so so hard to find clothes in v neck/low neck that are plain and simple, in good quality materials and colours that suit you and which you can afford.
You look amazingly elegant today, ma chère ❤ Casual but so chic! I love the look. I think your tips are perfect for people of any size! Merci
Merci Emmcee 😘
So glad you were able to find take aways from this video too Kimberly 👏😘
Any advice for short, big-busted, but short waisted, plus size? Two mere inches from below the bust to the waist. And 5'2" in height.
I have videos dealing with each element individually 😃 sadly not all at the same time 😘
Body con dresses can work though, with a nice blazer , cardigan or bolero though. A lot of the longer styles don't work on short people too. I'm only 5' with a big tummy so my options feel really limited even though I'd love a summer dress.
You need to watch my video from last night Tiny Bird for Petites and Petite Plus Sized 😃
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I will do that! Thank you!
Marie-Anne - I must say that I am so happy to have found your youtube. You are so inspiring no matter the subject.
@@MarieAnneLecoeurThis course sounds exactly what I am looking for. WoW! Thank you. I will look into it.
Love watching your videos, very helpful
🤗
Great! Thank you.
Excellent advice and examples!!
😘
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!! I am plus size , and have to agree with all the dresses. They look fabulous!!
Glad you like them Carolyn x
I hear you Kath - we need more elegance in the world 🙏
thankyou for sharing your tips for plus sized ladies . i am not a plus size but its important that styling advice is included for the plus size ladies and yes the models inn the dresses looked slimmer with the style advice tips applied
😘
