I like Marie Anne's simple and practical approach of putting color garment near your face and see whether it works. Color analysis over complicates things. I often heard someone gets her color done by two different analysists, got two sets of very different /conflicting recommendations. I will take the matter in my own hands! The other tip that I whole heartily agree is that there is no wrong color, it is the shade that matters. I am olive skin toned. I thought yellow won't work on me for years as I have never heard any stylist recommend yellow and it has a reputation of being a difficult color to wear . But during COVID, I got so bored and wanted to try colors I usually don't wear. I bought a couple yellow tops on line and found a muster shade yellow looks vibrant on me even without make up. A shocker! Now I am more adventurous on trying new colors and it brings more fun in getting dressed.

I always get compliments, even from strangers on the street, when I wear a bold red or fuscia pink! I’m a winter so gem toned colours flatter my skin tone best, and they always pick me up and make me smile when I wear them. Even when I wear black, which I love, I add red lips! Great video again!

I also like how you look vibrant in your red jacket. Thank you for all your videos. I do watch them all. I don’t comment on all of them but do watch them. And I’m watching your older ones now. Marie-Anne, I love your style, I love your personality, I really enjoy your videos (I have seen almost all of them from the beginning) and I am thankful for your tips, but there´s something I would definitely change: the "look younger" and "look expensive" tendency. We viewers (and yourself) are wise enough to know better. Too many messages on the internet selling youth and luxurious looks. As you have always said, it´s a question of style, not age or money. Let´s try to make a difference, even if we are a minority.

    • @jenletter9235
      @jenletter9235 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I believe one of the reasons the title look younger is often included in video titles is it increases TH-cam traffic. That is one of the most searched titles on the internet for fashion. Looking your best or similar title just doesn’t quite direct the traffic to Marianne’s wonderful channel so I wouldn’t be critical of her for this. We know she isn’t ageist.

I have a cool skin tone so blue and green are my friends.
I like all shades of blue except royal blue (my school uniform was royal blue). For our church directory photo, I decided to wear bright colors. I wore a royal blue blazer and added a Hermes scarf of magenta, emerald, royal blue etc (the pattern is various dog collars - was given to me as I have king Charles cavaliers). Bright magenta lipstick.
Anyway, although internally cringing, I received so many compliments on my looks, colors, bright colors, etc. Totally shocked me. Now I'm in love with royal blue and that scarf - it goes with every bright item.

I've been a little too slavish to colour analysis for a few years and just starting to break free of it!
On a different note, your best chic tip for me has been paying more attention to my shoes! It's made a huge difference - I'm often greeted with a "going somewhere nice?"; It's subtly changed my whole appearance, somehow.
    Thank you, Marie-Anne ☺️

I look forward to your advice.
Your advice makes me feel younger & pretty.
You are helping me rediscover my style.
Your advice is always the opposite to what my Mother harped on about.
    Mother squashed my style.
She always said to me " go change; go wash your face ; your not wearing that in my house."
She & my siblings always sniggered, criticized me, said that I had bad taste.
She was absolutely horrified the day I stood up to her.
I said no one has bad taste.
We are all different & it was better than looking like a beige colourless pantry moth like her.

Natural strawberry blonde here. if you like pink try a cool pink not a warm pink or a light lilac. There needs to be a hint of blue in it. I tend to avoid all orange shades and most red/pink shades, but I have just purchased a raspberry cardigan left open with a white blouse it looks good as it is the white that reflects not the pinky colour.

You’re so right about red. I have a simple red sweater and I always feel brighter when I wear it. I’ve recently discovered that pink does the same, even though I always thought pink didn’t suit me. That pink sweater looks amazing on you, Marie-Anne. On the other hand, black, which I love, takes all my colour away, even more so as I get older. And some yellows make me look positively corpse like! 😱😀

Merci beaucoup Marie Anne for encouragement ❤️ I used to wear colours in my past but lately I started to go more neutrals. I wouldn't say that I am not wearing colours at all, but they're more in accessories - scarves, shoes, jewellery etc
Love metallics, though. Gold doesn't suit me - I am a Silver girl 😊
Also, I worked out in my 20s that I could not wear black near to my face, and the navy is 'my black'. I learnt that myself by intuition and as an art lover.
Almost all shades (except electric) of pink I like and cool red like berries or bordeaux.
The same trick is with lipsticks - cool red shades are mine. Audrey was right - every woman can find red lipstick which suits her 😍

I've learned over the years that I can wear a dusty pink or a burnt orange or a brick red. Rust or burnt orange colors are usually what I choose. I think my skin looks best in a deep olive green. Somewhat limited. Everything muted. Oh well. Maybe I will fit the next trend better.

    • @joannebutzerin6448

Such a great video, thank you! Best colours worn next to my face are lime green, daffodil and aqua, which seem to complement the light (spring) warm undertones in my skin and pair beautifully with basics in French navy and chocolate, with lots of favorable comments too. In my 70s, I find my undertones are more muted than in my 40s and 50s when I could wear vibrant orange and brown combos, which are a little overpowering now. (If I want a little preview of how I may look at 95, I only need to try on black, white or grey - those colours seem to suck the life out of me.) Sheen or shine in fine textured fabrics work best, and I love the way accessories like sparkly trainers bring an outfit to life. Getting dressed is such fun!

I used to be confused by red, not sure which looked best on me. Then I managed to find three different red tops in the department store. Just trying each one on, I could easily distinguish which red looked best. Warm, muted tomato and rusty red YES. Cool blue red NO. Same story with pinks -- cool pinks, fuschia NO, warm peachy pinks YES. It's trial and error if you are unsure. Red lipstick is too harsh but I can wear a sheer red. ELF has a new line of glosses in small tubes which are a cheap way to experiment.

I did a small winter splurge a few years ago and bought a red skater wool coat. It’s so flattering. It doesn’t get a lot if wear unfortunately but when I do I always get compliments.

I really appreciate your advice about color and I'm going to try and add some pops of color to my wardrobe. I also like the look of a white Peter pan collar under a black sweater. The white collar softens the black sweater which can be too harsh on the complexion. I love black but it can make you look tired, as you pointed out.

Can I just say... how dynamic and bright you look in bold, saturated colours! I love the tomato red and the shocking pink!

I think you have cold, bright and contrasting colors like me (or so it seems on camera) and cold and very vivid and pure colors give us life. Red, hot pink, pure white... and fabrics with brightness and contrast. On the other hand, there are people who need soft colors and they look beautiful, or warm colors. For this I always advise a professional who also teaches you to look for your colors by comparison

Beautiful video Marie-Anne dear. I would also add that keeping your heart joyful and always interested in new things and a positive attitude will also make us younger from the inside to the exterior.

❤Always loved a statement lip💄. Color can be so intimidating🙄. Was a lot more adventurous when I was younger with bright colors & bolder combinations. Enjoyed the spectacle.
Later in life, I wasted a lot of money 💰 on colored & patterned tops that NEVER got worn. They were purely aspirational. Except for maybe a scarf, it took me forever to realize that no matter how much I liked a print in theory I dislike😖 it close to my face. There are a few exceptions, but mostly I prefer pattern located lower⬇️ in a skirt or trouser.
🤔Have a hard time figuring out what to do w/a solid color top outside my palette. Unless I can find something like a scarf that can tie them together.
🎉Appreciate that you've boiled it down to a simple way to gauge whether or not a color will suit your countenance.

Best advice ever from my mother “Never wear black close to your face”. I am astonished so many women don’t notice how greenish their face look when they wear black or dark grey close to the face.

My grandmother, who was a seamstress, said exactly the same! Even if she wore a dark blue dress with little white design, you can be sure she had a white collar. That alone made her stand out from the crowd. Best advice ever!

    Dear Ms Marie-Anne,
    It is fabulous!
One thing I was never told (besides colours that fit)...is considering: fabric!
    You are right!
I really did take notes of your precious pieces of advice.
    Now...Spring may arrive!
Thank you Ms Marie-Anne, always appreciative of your generous (and happily done) work for us!

I look best in bright colors such as red, royal blue, deep green etc. I also have found black looks better on me now than when I was younger. I really don’t wear pink but I did get a magenta tee shirt for the Summer. Love the tips. Really these can be used at any age. ❤

Bon jour, Marie-Ann! I absolutely love color! I gravitate toward colors found in nature…no neons for me! 😆. I look best in the cool and neutral colors. Can’t wear anything with a yellow undertone. It makes me look ill. I also have my spring/summer colors and my fall/winter colors which are in similar, but deeper tones than my spring/summer colors. I rotate them with the seasons.

I liked your section on style evolves. It does. I'm 71 now and I have suddenly gone hat mad. Anita Pallenberg type hats amongst others. They look surprisingly good and definitely make a strong style statement. It's just fun.

I love you. My wardrobe base is black & white with texture, blue reds, teal , & denim added. Simple, quality items in accessories, shoes, boots, & handbags. My clothes never go out of style. I always look “well dressed”. I wear hats almost every day. I wear almost no prints. Thank you for confirming my choices. I recently added a striped top to my wardrobe. Merci

When you put that pretty green top up to your face, it was stunning. I had the same coloring as you, fair skin, very dark hair but blue eyes. Strong colors always looked best against my face. But my hair stylist has lightened my hair and put blonde highlights in. It seems like I need to wear fall colors. It’s hard to make the change.

Thank you, Marie-Anne, for talking about how important colours are to create a fresh, youthful glow. I always wear colour (not 100 colours together) and it's amazing how the face changes. After colouring my hair a copper-reddish/light chestnut brown colour several years ago, I always look less tired regardless how tired I am. ❤😊
