For those 99% who came here because they cannot change the width and height in the export screen (because it's inactive)
That was an actual reason for me also searching and viewing this video.
I've recently found out that there're some export formats that doesn't allow custom crop for output video (e.g. avi)
I switched it to H.262 or some of their series and it worked.
To be fair this guide is one and only in the whole world that explains more or less Where on Earth that bizarre adobe GUI makers stuck dat darn OUT crop function.
Even more stupid search engines including the whole adobe community just misleads everyone with the wrong FAQ titles (they explain how to crop "video sequences" in the project while leaving the output video untouched)
Finally. It took me 5 tutorials to get to the one I was looking for. All of the others people were doing the cropping BEFORE exporting. Thanks!
So, in the new 2022 Adobe Premier Pro nothing I've tried works for me, there was no way to export full screen. But I managed to get full screen simply by exporting whatever adobe allowed me and then downloading the video to my phone (just like a normal video) and from there cropping the black lines out. I have an iPhone I don't know about androids but click on edit and the cropping tool should be there. I recommend exporting from adobe the best quality because as you crop the resolution might not be too good. It worked for me, I downloaded the best quality and cropped it. Looks great honestly. Hope that helps!
Hey Chris, I can't seem to use this method in the newest version of Premiere Pro (2022). When I go to the export screen, there are no tabs for source and output, and there is no crop tool to crop the source down. Any help with the latest version would be appreciated!
You must install Adobe Media Encoder now to get these same settings. When you go to export down the bottom right press open in Adobe Media Encoder.
@@Z4Zman Can share a bit more? I have media encoder but I still do see where to crop my video.
@@thematterworkstv Once the project is brought into AME, click on either the Format or Preset text and it will open the window that you see in the video. (If you're encoding to mp4 it will say H.264)

Question, I don't see any black bars while working in my project. Only after exporting it and I have no idea how to get rid of it. ;( help anyone?

These are the settings for UHD export: 3840x1608
doesn't work on new versions
my recommendation is to make a copy of your original project, go to the Sequence Settings tab and tweak the frame size values to remove the black bars
example: 1920x1080 video with vertical black bars = change the resolution to 1440x1080

So. after I do file,export,media, when I am in output the black thing shows. but when I go into source, its the black bar is gone. so it doesnt let me do that

I've noticed that this feature has been REMOVED in the new Premiere 2022. Anyone been able to find it? Can't find any info one how to crop an export with the new export menu

I have set my sequence dimensions to 1920 x 1080 and my footage dimensions are almost the same but I have huge black bar on both sides of the screen. if i try to streth it, the dimensions would be something like 1006 x 426. How can I make my sequence 16/9?

why not create an adjustment layer and then just crop it to get the black bars? I generally struggle with using my anamorphic footage together with circular one

Was it the custom change in width and height that changed it.

Thank you ever so much! You’re very kind. And yes, I have that problem sometimes. Try playing your footage back in quarter quality when editing. Just under the monitor, hit the full button and change this to 1/4
What if the black bars on top and bottom are not of equal height tho? It doesn't seem to work when that's the case for me.
Hello. Could you help? You know what to do if, for example, part of the video is filmed with a phone, but part with go pro and go pro video has a black frame on both the side and the top and bottom :) What to do?

Hey @brookerfilms thank you for the video it is great. I have a question for you. Let's say I wanted to remove the black bars from only HALF of my video in Adobe Premiere Pro, and then, for the remaining 2nd half of the video I would not remove the black bars (I actually don't have any black bars for 2nd half of the video because it is already full screen.) The issue I am running into is when I am in the "export settings" and I crop the video to remove the black bars I only want to do it for the first half of my video. The only thing I can think of is to export half of my video without the black bars, and save it to my computer...and then export my other half of my video and save it to my computer and then combine the two clips together. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.
