If you loved this video, check out one of the best reasons to visit Kolkata-- it's street food. Kolkata is a street food capital!! th-cam.com/video/i81jPgCIapA/w-d-xo.html
I'm surprised you didn't die of dysentery or cholera eating that crap. They don't wash their hands before food preparation as many lack access to sanitation facilities India 🤢
This is the most beautifully captured video of kolkata I have seen so far. It's not unnaturally aesthetic. It's raw. It doesn't focus on anything to alter the idea. It isn't stereotypical. It's not grunge. It captures the essence without overdoing it. Its a retreat
I appreciate that feedback! I was trying to communicate the honest charm I saw, felt inspired by and which makes it a unique beauty amidst other cities. Truly charming city !
kolkata is my favourite city in the whole world i dont wanna compare with other cities in the world coz this city gives the ultimate joy than the other one....u can get anything here which would make u feel hundred of different cities based here..i love kolkata
I spent 10 months in Calcutta back in 81/82. I had the time of my life. Completely deferent then anything I experienced before. It was my first overseas adventure. From there I went to Bern Switzerland. Talk about culture shock.
+Bikash Modak I was hoping to go back this year for that festival; unfortunately, my budget cant handle much travel this year. . I just narrowly missed last year by a few days and met some Indians who showed me their photos! WOW!
Yeah, i know that by watching "Kumortuli'" u got here before the Festival of "Diwali" (Kalipuja) which is also one of biggest festival of India, i think u miss that too (IDK just guessing ) by Departed before it's start. Anyway their always a next year in India for every festival. Hoping to see in India again. Thanks For the Reply.
one time visit to Kolkata during Durga puja is good though it is loud and congested ,u can also travel to other parts of India during Durga puja. Delhi has some good pujas ,so does Mumbai
These places are at least 200 years old and have their own uniqueness. I think Dakshineswar temple, Victoria Memorial, Princep ghat, bow barrack should have been included.
also Alipore Zoo, Coffee House, Mother Teresa House. Jorasanko Thakur Bari, Fort William. Botanical Gardens. National Library. Royal Calcutta Turf Club. Should be included along with Science City, Nicco Park, Eco Park, Aquatica etc.
I loved this video and it took me back to my childhood as I grew up in Kolkata and went to school in Darjeeling! I live in Chicago now and have not been back so this was so great to watch!
Your videos give such a refreshing perspective to travelling, and to life itself. Loved how you acknowledged that everyone needs to survive in their own way and that our beliefs aren't going to put food on someone's table. Thank you for making me realise this. :)
Christine , the way you tried to catch the glimpse of vibrant city within very short timespan is remarkable. Only an outsider can notice so many details which is almost impossible to do from inside. (Eg - the manual labor's techniques to lift the weights ) ... :)
Vibrant is a good word for Kolkata. I honestly wish I had more time to get deeper with Kolkata. Because I know I'm merely scraping surface and what little I saw was dazzling to me. I think details are easy to notice for foreigners. I have difficulty filming Hawaii for the fact I'm born and bred there and kind of bored. I found those manual laborers absolutely remarkable to do the job that machines or very large men would. We're talking the ability to move "Tons' of weight!!! Very Guinness World Book Record class. =)
Hey, Christine Very much impressed by your travel appetite, willingness to try new things, and your ability to understand India. I have seen a couple of your videos and the way you can find interesting things and underline it among chaos and disorder is marvelous. You are a seasoned and mature traveler and your love for India wins my respect. Keep it up!
Thanks +tejesh pratap ! At this point, I feel like India is like a drug, which is the first country to do that to me of date. I HAVE to have it again and again! Culturally I find it so diverse and fascinating; there's no other place in the world like it. The chaos part I always feel is important to show or note b/c being on the "western traveler end", that's one thing westerners feel overwhelmed by. My first trip to India, I just didn't want to blink; I felt like I wanted eyes on the back of my head. It was more visual stimulation that Times Square in New york. The more I get comfortable with traveling India, the more i want to share my perspective of its beauty and why I keep returning. But my perspective is still always as a tourist. =)
Wow I'm loving this video of my hometown! Amazing job in capturing the quintessential kolkata and I'm also amazed by your level of knowledge! I'm now missing the kolkata street food...all thanks to you 😃
Kolkata is my birth city but I haven't visited in 30 years. So I like to watch TH-cam videos of Kolkata until I can visit again. Your production is the best I've seen! Thank you for presenting my birth city in such a respectful manner. I wish you all the best!
Thank you +Santanu Datta You should revisit again. I adored Kolkata. So much character-- it stood out to me as one of the interesting cities in India. Love the old ambassador taxi feel. Need to go back to experience Durga Puja!
So proud as an Indian to see such hard working people .. trulyIndia no matter which city is a heaven on earth with warm and sincere people among all the commotion of life . Thanks for making my day with a virtual tour of Kolkata 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I am a resident of Kolkata. Regarding transport, we have a vintage form of transport, the tram network, the only surviving one in India. It still carries history with it, ringing bells and running through streets in embedded steel rails, and it is the cheapest transport available in the city. It deserves a mention in a video about Kolkata.
This city would have been like Hong Kong were it not for over political, lazy state government and volatile political party adherents; today Kolkata is like Havana - falling behind most Indian cities. Poor roads, barely any manufacturing, political unrest, - but like Havana people still smile and carry on despite the hardship suffered.
Hi Christine. That's a great Job indeed that you have done. Hmm, I need some help BTW. I loved the song in the background after 4:30. " chhan chhan baje ghungroo " is the song what I could figure out. But Google doesn't yield the same song that has been played as its search results. Can you please give me the link?
it was really nice video. Thanks for creating such video on Kolkata... But one thing u miss.. that is the night of Kolkata. Its really beautiful. Thanks again.
Suddenly I felt very emotional, sitting far far away from my city, my locality... missing local tea shops... missing the warmth of people .... missing “O Dada”... “O rickshaw, jabe?”... mini bus... Maidan... Jadavpur 8B... Gariahat... College Street ...
Victoria memorial open for all on 2nd January 2020??? Please reply me.....bcz on Google it is showing that Victoria memorial is closed.... We are planning to visit kolkata this new year... So can you please suggest me some places where we can go and which will not be closed on 2nd January
I have lived in this city for 26 years but never been to the flower market or the wholesale market lol. Apart from the street food trail the city has to offer different other cuisines as well. One of the interesting food trail is the Cantonese family run restaurants (Tung Nam to name one of them). Also the Park Street area is home to restaurants offering European cuisine, and of course you can not miss out traditional Bengali food. Nice effort Christine
Thank you. I had originally planned on an experimental visit to Delhi. But people who have been there told me the air quality is diabolical and advise against it.One guy suggested Kolkata. Watching your video has given me direction. Thanks again.
My pleasure 😊 Delhi and Kolkata are two different vibes. Fortunately, I've never been to Delhi during their really polluted days. But I did a 24 hours Delhi video. Delhi will keep you on your toes tho with the occasional redirection scams.
Hi Christine, you must really know the world , knowing Kolkata, India, after they put that load on that guys head he stop smiling , thanks for upload Jerome from Florida
great video and awesome point of view to see the beauty of my City by a foreigner, Kolkata is in my every breath. what ever it is it still my city my soul. great work mam love you.
Just watched your latest vlog on your other channel...your right there's no place like home...I'm in Phuket now!!! Omg it's hot...but the water festival was fun
I'm originally from Kolkata. I visited the India Museum several times growing up. The museum once managed to get an Egyptian mummy. But it only lasted 10 yrs. The mummy ended up inside a hoover. A careless cleaner thinking it was just rubbish hoovered the mummy and thew the entire contents away. Generally the rule is not to eat the street food because you could get stomach problems, malaria etc. There is a large shopping market called New Market (even though its over 170 years old) its in central Kolkata. You can get anything and everything there.
Hello Christine! your videos are awesome!! Everything looks so exciting and fun.Makes me regret that I postponed my trip there.Either way, still gonna include India in my future trips. Kudos and keepsafe always girl!

I spent 10 months in Calcutta back in 81/82. I had the time of my life. Completely deferent then anything I experienced before. It was my first overseas adventure. From there I went to Bern Switzerland. Talk about culture shock.
You must visit Kolkata in time of Durga Puja one of biggest festival of Bengali People. i'm sure u will find a new Kolkata in those four to Five days.
+Bikash Modak I was hoping to go back this year for that festival; unfortunately, my budget cant handle much travel this year. . I just narrowly missed last year by a few days and met some Indians who showed me their photos! WOW!

I stay in Kolkata, and it is so irritatingly noisy during Durga Puja, that we take a vacation to Sikkim or Dooars

You missed Belur Math where the idea of modern India emerged. It's very nice place too.
one of the best videos of Kolkata I have seen. So focused on what to do and the general lifestyle instead of the usual Western perspective. Bravo
I loved this video and it took me back to my childhood as I grew up in Kolkata and went to school in Darjeeling! I live in Chicago now and have not been back so this was so great to watch!
Glad you liked it. What an incredible childhood you had!

+Mridul Mandal description box. But the songs are not free use.
Well, that's why I asked for a link to download that song!
The highlight of my visit to Calcutta was South Park Street Cemetery.
Great one. What cameras and equipment did you use and carry ?
Beautiful video.

@Christine What's the name of the song playing in 6:11 ?
I would like to come kolkata.its my dream ...
I visit Kolkata on every visit to India, it is such an important city in India and it is still looked down on.
And I absolutely don’t understand why! The amount of hate Comments I’ve gotten or got filtered, criticizing this lovely city completely floors me.
@@grrrltraveler Cause there is diversity here. We don't fight here on the basis of religion. Some nationalists hate that.
Victoria memorial open for all on 2nd January 2020???
Please reply me.....bcz on Google it is showing that Victoria memorial is closed....
We are planning to visit kolkata this new year...
So can you please suggest me some places where we can go and which will not be closed on 2nd January
