Yeah yeah yeah. I've been searching and searching for a woman's solo travel vlog for India! I'll be doing visa runs as I with be heading from Canada to live in Vietnam. So India has always been on the list!! But did intimidate me somewhat. Thank you so much for your brilliantly informative videos.I'm 52, retired and am not looking for a backpackers experience but to truly SEE the country's and their ppl. I've got a stupid grin on my face!!🙏🙏🇨🇦🙏🙏
Hi, Christine! Apologies for the sexual harassment and bad potty situation you've experienced in India. I believe we are working on it (we really are :P). Loved the fact that you have debunked some weird myths about India, and that you've actually gone micro with your understanding of my beautiful country :) I'm from Bangalore, in the South, and I wonder which places weren't very welcoming of the outfits you chose to wear. People in cities wear all sorts of clothes that people wear in other parts of the world (but for religious places). Secondly, traveling in major cities is super easy and cheap with cab service providers like Uber and Ola. Also, on a slightly different topic, do people outside think India is super hot and smelly? Where I come from, summers don't exceed 37C (April and May) and the rest of the year is beautiful mid 20 degrees. But I must say, I haven't seen other travellers from the West understanding and accepting India this humbly and in such detail, hitting the right spots on almost all topics! You've inspired me to perhaps understand another country this well :) P. S. One last thing... When you're in big cities like Bangalore, New Delhi, Mumbai, etc., do talk to youth who understand English. As westernised and non-Indian as we might probably seem, we love our country and we will talk about experiences that are honest and incredibly Indian! :D
I concur. Connect with the educated youth of India online - make sure its not fake profiles or creepy guys of course , lol, as with any country. The city bred english speaking youngsters are global and understand the west completely. P.S: this comes from an Indian in America, and I found no trouble adapting to the US cuz I already knew much of your culture. So such young people will be really helpful.
She is basically generalizing and painting a wide brush of India by claiming all her experiences as something standard all over India. Her video is good for all the snow flakes….and they should not go to India...but to the Castro in SF....period! Although all 9 Million visitors to India survived and went back home without dust under their finger nails…in just 2016
Adithya Manjunath ppl outside India don’t think it’s hot and smelly at all. The idea most think is exotic, crazy people, extreme rituals, ancient traditions, different languages, and different food. Also is a common thing that people think it’s less clean outdoors than the west which is quite true
what's going on with u guys calm down... sex harassment is happening in every country!!! do u know that USA is the first country in rape and harassment!!! it's also happen in the middle east in the arabic countries just the same
For the ones who are willing to visit India and use trains as a mode of transportation, our trains have AC 1st class, AC 2 tier, AC 3 Tier, Non-AC sleeper (open window) classes. For example, roughly speaking, if your journey costs 100 INR in non-ac sleeper class then it will cost around 250 in Ac 3 tier, 370 in Ac 2 tier and 600 in AC first class. Ac 3 tire gives the most value for your money in my opinion. If you want privacy then AC 1st class has cabins with door lock (4 or 2 persons per cabin as per availablity). If possible, take Rajdhani express, Duronto express as these trains get high priority and fares are little bit higher than the ordinary express trains.. Those are for overnight travel, for travel in daytime-only many routes have InterCity trains ("Shatabdi Express" are the premium ones) which have chair cars for sitting. Last but not least, book your tickets as early as possible. Railway starts issuing tickets 120 days before the date of journey.
This video was one of the first I encountered back in 2016, when the thought of travelling to India occurred to me at a random moment and I was searching for some guidance. Fast forward to now.. I booked my ticket a few weeks ago and came across this video again!
Thank you so much for this!! I'm studying abroad in New Delhi, India, next semester! This was so helpful for me, and I watched all your videos in this series! I even bought the scarf you linked in one of your videos. Any specific recommendations for students?
+mgrum I'm glad you found my videos helpful! Just know India has a plethora of scarves as well and those will help you blend. Although I honestly love my scarf and use it all the time. As a student you'll be need to adopt an expat mentality in trying to integrate and manage your new lifestyle for an extended time. Adapting to a new country lifestyle is always more challenging than vacationing in the country. It's like a marriage vs a flirtation. Much will rest on your perspective-- you will have ups and downs, a honeymoon period and times when you feel like a divorce. It's an emotional rollercoaster but when you look back on all of it you'll feel like it was the best choice in your life!
I was able to be well prepared went I arrived to India last year thanks to your tips. Like many I also far in love with India I am planning to go back this year. I wish every foreign go to India a least once.
india has himalaya to green mountain to sandy and rockey mountain to plain land to damp south place--donot forgot camel safari in thar destert or elephant safari in assam national park --kerela is must on visit
Aww, Gloria. . I actually wasn't liking the way I looked and was so tempted to reshoot. But there was just soooo much information to have to redo!! haha. xo
you should take sleeper A/C bus(has reading lamp and plug ports) or the semi sleeper for long distances, not sure if they are avilable in north India, but in south India we always prefer semi sleeper or sleeper (this is better and spacious with curtains). Happy traveling.
Finally some useful and true informative little guide. Sorry for all bad experiences You've ever experienced in India. for travel n all other information needed, everything is available on Internet. Welcome to all!
I suggest everybody first class train compartment if possible also sleeper. You will get much better company and meet better people. Prefer Express trains like Shatabdi Express.
The first class is nice- very calm; lots of business people. Haven't I've tried an upgraded sleeper (2AC???Can't remember...)... not much of a difference.
Nicely described everything, Thanks Christine. Hope your next tour would be more wonderful. India is big country so might get problems while travelling in India but most helpful people are here government as well as citizen's. safety tips always to follow allover the world cause good & bad people are everywhere.
Thanks for all info about travelling but I am retired and need all the help to make a 21 day trip enjoyable trip but afraid travelling alone, need help Thanks 🙏 you’re great
This video right here was an amazing one. I live in india, and the fact that you covered everything is amazing. But what is even more amazing, that you werent like "ohmygod it was so dirty, ohmygod it was so this and so that". Thanks a lot for that! It just ruins the entire thing you know. People have a misunderstood India for a big time now. So, where all did you go?
+Isha Singh My new traveler culture shock happened on my first trip to India, but it also felt like a drug had gotten under my skin. That trip, I also accidentally went solo for the first time, so India is my blog birth mother. India is misunderstood-- I've prob traveled India a total of 4.5 months over the years..I'm still trying to figure it out. A beautiful puzzle. But I guess that's why I keep coming back- each time, a handful of new cities. lol.
Why is this lady isnt getting views :O ,come on guys spread it around! wonderful videos! keep it up ,love from India! Also as of now Kingfisher is no longer in service and also for long distance buses you can go to redbus.in and or volvo buses which are highly comfortable, they have sleeper coaches and super comfy!also ayurveda medicine doesnt hit you instantly as the modern medicine ,but taking it regularly builds up your immune system as time goes by! BUT ALL AND ALL BEAUTIFUL INFORMATIVE VIDEO!!
I want to thank you. My wife and I moved to India for a number of months for work and your videos were almost a roadmap for everything we encountered. I am quite grateful for for your detailed videos.
tall people do not i repeat do not take long distance buses you wont have enough space for your legs this is what i hate about them iam around 6 and still nope 5'7 and below feel free to take them
+vivek kalluri haha. Yes, for buses. I always have to angle my legs and I'm only 5'8". But I have seen 6 foreigners take the bus-- unfortunately if they don't fit they take up the entire chair.
in buses i prefer the non window seat as i can leave one leg out of the chair and angle the other one but it costs me all the fun of sitting next to a window in a bus.for long journey ive been using sleeper coaches(those with beds) if you have to travel in a sleeper but with chairs in it book the first seat of the column(first seat has lot of space to rest legs) dont take the last seat you can't lean back in it.i think this will work best in India i dont know how buses in other countries are
Hi , i am from india , living in US since 4 years, I wanted to comment on the video "5 tips to survive india" but commenting was disable . I loved it. It was raw real and beautiful. About hotel sheets , it is true but better hotels have better facilities and sheets ;) . Do visit - Puri (orissa) , golden temple amritsar (punjab), jaipur (rajasthan), varanasi, gujarat, kerela and lakshadweep and entire northeast india (ladakh, sikkim etc). I know its a long list and It would take almost 2 months but it would be great if you could visit and vlog.
Thanks +ananya mohanty! There's cities that are still in edit -- obviously, when I do the compilations, they take a rigorous amount of time to edit and I'm job hunting at the same time to afford the ability to create these types of videos. I haven't visited Orissa, Gujarat or Lakshadweep- great recommendations! Loove love love Varanasi, Sikkim, Dharamsala. Tried to get back to Ladakh just to film it; didn't work on my schedule but I have a couple of old videos on it with Amritsar. Kerala & Rajasthan are lovely too. Mumbai & Goa - okay. If the city is on the tourist radar, I'm making my way thru it. But I occasionally return to places I've been to, so I can explore more in depth. This is my 3rd trip to India. What you say of hotel sheets I'm sure are true, but most western travelers under +35 (unless they are vacation travelers, have a corporate job or are on a tour) will probably go for the budget options... especially if they're traveling longer than 2 weeks. I meet a lot of western tourists mid 20;s-3os and 50's on. Unfortunately, the flight tickets to India absorb most American travel budgets already. So many are inclined to go budget, even older couples sometimes. I've stayed at midrange budget hotels; unfortunately the price increase doesn't always reflect in the facilities. The only hotels which guarantee great facilities are luxury hotels & chains. But high end hotel mentality is same everywhere for travelers-- for those who can splurge for the extra comfort and have healthy incomes.=)
omg thanks for writing back ! do contact me if you need any help while in india. I am not currently in india, I live in the US but I am sure i can help you if need be . :)
Thank you-- which is your native city? Just in case I need recommendations in the future. ;) And I just found out my Comments on that video was indeed Off. I was in China so I couldn't really access my full channel settings. Not sure how that happened but thanks for letting me know.
Hi I am from Bhuabneswar, capital/temple city of Orissa. If You happen to be in Orissa, You should definitely visit Peepli (famous for handicrafts), Chandipur (very unique beach that goes away for several kms during low tide ), puri (one of the most sacred temples in india and annual chariot festival, amazing beaches espc if you surf, check out national geographic's video,' the legend of Jaggannath'. ) ,also orissa is home to rare olive ridley turtles, and the bhitar kanika national park is for crocodile lovers . Chilika is the largest brackish water lake home to migratory birds and the fresh crab curry you get in this place is mindblowing. for food definitely try - pakhala (drowned rice), dahi baigana (eggplant dunked in spicy curd) , sweets - chena podo, malpua, street food - aloo dum dahi bara. A must watch - annual konark festival (odissi dance is oldest surviving dance form of India) . for more you can DM me on instagram @coffeechocomint
GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa omg im so late in replying , yes the above person is correct. come to assam, manipur, meghalaya(shillong is very pretty too), arunachal, etc
Next time plan 4 assam and rest of north east India.. n u can reach ova 4 me as well, ll try to help as much as possible n m sure u ll b blown over by the hospitality n friendly behaviour of the locals.. also its one of the safest places for women in India today. Cheers!!
Can recommend taking an FUD almost anywhere where the toilet facilities leave a lot to be desired. I travel/ wear trousers most of the time and have somewhat limited mobility and a weight/age problem, so I can't squat easily. Imagine trying to keep a pair of pants off a urine soaked floor while trying to 'go' into a hole in the ground with nothing to hold onto for support and you get the idea. Fun it isn't!!!
+Sue Harvey You mean this? th-cam.com/video/YpSMQTK_E00/w-d-xo.html My first trip to India, I got one. I definitely agree with you. FUDs are great for those who have knee problems.
I just luv ur vdo all those travelling vlogs 😍 always wanna travel to anywhere i want but always lack time just wondering how can u set aside tht much time to travel to so many countries
Hi !! I'm going in India in 2 weeks and I would like to know if you ever took a taxi with driver for transportation (example : Agra to Jaipur) ? By the way, I love love love your video ! Keep going ! You do an amazing job 👏🏽😃🙏🏻❤️🎉
For Agra, I took the train. You can hire drivers. These days, people also use rideshares, like Uber or Olla cabs. There should be an Olla cab app for mobiles.
Mam India is a land of Festivals, so in 2 weeks there is a big festival coming.. so I would advise please book ur Journey in advance if u want to go by train, because in North India its best way to travel around.. I suppose ur going to Agra from Delhi, u may try by road through Yamuna Expressway.. I guarantee you would love it.. in this video what she said was little bit exaggerated.. Anyways when u land in India u will get a pack from government side containing Maps, Sim card, emergency numbers etc.. so don't worry and chill.. and most importantly It would be rainy season so prepare for it..
IRTCT website unfortunately won't work for you if you don't have an indian number, they charged me a fee for using an international number, however that still didn't allow me to book my tickets. You can try 12go asia
Isit best to pre book all the hostels/hotels before hand? Or can I just go with the flow as I travel state to state / city to city then book accommodation last minute?
Hi i am digvijay from gujrat(india) and can you like travel all india for lowcost and more pleces with indian history so please reply me and you are seen india with my knowleg
Have been seeing your vlogs and they're incredible! Greetings from India! Just a correction... you have a typo in the Indian Railways booking link. It should be IRCTC instead of IRTC. (Although the wrong link redirects to an unofficial blog that has some good amount of info!) Cheers! :)
India is a great country! We went there with our 2 year old daughter and had an amazing time.
Good job, Grrrl. I'm going BACK to india and I still need these tips.

And I just found out my Comments on that video was indeed Off.

Love your video's!
Thanks for watching, Andy! Gonna film a recipe with Indian influence soon? ;)
Intense traveling in India, man. Very intense. I hear train travel in India is the best way around. But not sure if I can do it.
A woman who goes to India is brave
This is very useful
I just luv ur vdo all those travelling vlogs 😍 always wanna travel to anywhere i want but always lack time just wondering how can u set aside tht much time to travel to so many countries
+BORBOR I didn't tag you on the video but I just answered your question somewhere in my About Me videos. =)
+GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa thank you 👍
Mam India is a land of Festivals, so in 2 weeks there is a big festival coming.. so I would advise please book ur Journey in advance if u want to go by train, because in North India its best way to travel around..
I suppose ur going to Agra from Delhi, u may try by road through Yamuna Expressway.. I guarantee you would love it..
in this video what she said was little bit exaggerated..
Anyways when u land in India u will get a pack from government side containing Maps, Sim card, emergency numbers etc.. so don't worry and chill..
and most importantly It would be rainy season so prepare for it..
good job mam keep it up....
When are you going to Thailand want to see you in more of them before i go myself so i know what to do there.
Beautiful Video😍
excellent!
Awsome traveller where are you from!
IRTCT website unfortunately won't work for you if you don't have an indian number, they charged me a fee for using an international number, however that still didn't allow me to book my tickets. You can try 12go asia
good channel ..i subscribed now !😊
Love travel guides
Isit best to pre book all the hostels/hotels before hand? Or can I just go with the flow as I travel state to state / city to city then book accommodation last minute?
Nice 👍
Hi i am digvijay from gujrat(india) and can you like travel all india for lowcost and more pleces with indian history so please reply me and you are seen india with my knowleg
when I was in India, I would sometimes have pee splash marks on my legs when using a squat toilet it took some time to get use to it
haha..But scientifically it's more hygienic, u can clarify..
Have been seeing your vlogs and they're incredible! Greetings from India! Just a correction... you have a typo in the Indian Railways booking link. It should be IRCTC instead of IRTC. (Although the wrong link redirects to an unofficial blog that has some good amount of info!) Cheers! :)
Thank you for the correction! =)
nice! thaks!
Great video
