    You know, I thought about something a while back.
    In the video where MatPat explained that the endermen were, at one point, humans, he said that if you look at one’s eyes with a pumpkin on your head, they won’t attack. Then he said that this might be because it reminds them of a simpler time.
    But I have a different idea.
    What if the reason why they don’t attack you is because the pumpkins you are wearing reminds them of the iron golems they had created with the ancestors of the villagers, which fills them with regret that they didn’t join the villagers. If they had, then they would have never had to travel to the nether, never tried to study the power over life and death, never created the wither, never had to flee to the end, and never would have become Endermen
    It’s amazing how much one small decision can make sometimes. For them, their one decision could have resulted in something very different, and whatever they built that the wither destroyed would have still been in the overworld

      @frecklecraft 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      A blaze theory would actually be super cool.

    • @KingNedya
      @KingNedya 4 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      @@frecklecraft I think that blazes, unlike wither skeletons, were original denizens of the Nether. Same for ghasts and striders. Piglins and hoglins might be evolved forms of pigs that were brought to the Nether as a source of food, but when the builders died out, the pigs evolved in two different paths to better suit their environment. Magma cubes are probably evolved forms of slimes (I don't know, maybe they brought some to the Nether for a slime farm?).
      Actually, as I was typing this, I remembered that blazes spawn primarily in Nether fortresses, especially using blaze spawners, which were likely built by the ancient builders. Plus, blazes sound very robotic/metallic, especially when they get damaged. So perhaps blazes are like guardians, robots that were created by the builders to defend their structures.
      Ghasts and striders were probably originally from the Nether in the first place, though.

    • @luxoliss
      @luxoliss 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@KingNedya yeah the sounds that blazes make when you hit them sound very robotic. They emit large smoke stacks like factories. They're probably similar in origin to the Iron Golems, just in the nether instead

    • @KingNedya
      @KingNedya 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@luxoliss Yeah. And by guardians, I meant the mob, but guardian of the fortress works too. So blazes, ghasts, and iron golems were all built by the ancient builders as defenders.

    • @KingNedya
      @KingNedya 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Autumn Dye Oh yeah, I forgot about the snow golems, thanks for reminding me.
      Actually, now that I think about it, perhaps that explains why enderman don't attack you if you look at them while wearing a carved pumpkin. Iron golems are crafted using carved pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns, but they're head doesn't actually look like that, whereas the snow golem does.

    Two things I was missing here:
    1.Illagers sometimes have captured Iron Golems at their outposts in cages. Never got around to releasing them to cause mayhem yet. Why would Illagers capture Golems instead of destroying them?
    2. Steve is capable of constructing Iron Golems , too. And if Steve does that, the Golem never turns hostile, even if Steve hits it directly. It just takes the punishment.
    And let’s not get into the implication of Villagers summoning an infinite supply of Golems when scared by a zombie or Illager which no one ethical mind would ever exploit for endless iron resources…

    • @Jgamer-jk1bp
      @Jgamer-jk1bp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      The last one can be simply gameplay mechanics, but there's potential lore implications. Steve is capable of doing so since his ancestors were the ones who literally invented them, why wouldn't he be able to as well? Plus it could be simply a metallic construct being enchanted with minimal magic, that's why it doesn't drain EXP whenever you summon any of the golems.

      I think the illagers are just extremely bad with technology. They have fake replicas of end portals, fake map rooms, and other ritualistic structures that show that they’re trying to emulate technology, and aren’t advanced enough to replicate it, but Iron Golems are living breathing machines that have a purpose, so I’d guess they studied those to actually try and create something new (the ravagers)

    MATPAT! Here's a crazy theory for ya on the origins of skeletons. Your zombie disease video makes sense, but doesn't explain the skeletons. No disease is going to keep a pile of bones floating around. You'd need magic to do that. Here's a quote from the Mobestiary, " Some have proposed that skeletons are ancient adventurers raised from death by an evil sorcerer." In the game Minecraft Dungeons there is a group of ancient necromancers who live in a desert temple. They have blue glowing eyes (the color of souls) and when they summon skeletons, you can see small blue souls float away from the summoning area. They even shoot soul fire blasts! But why are they themselves undead? Maybe because when they (or some other humans) summoned the wither, they noticed that it doesn't attack undead things, and they turned themselves undead to protect themselves. I hope you read this!

      I'm thinking some form of religious or moral reason as well, since they can make weapons (it's not like they just 'poof' weapons into existence, they do make them, just when we're not around). They have weaponsmiths and armorsmiths, after all, so they're able to produce items for war yet don't use them. Maybe it is just a tradition in honor of the ancient ones who could create and enchant items (explains why some stuff they make is enchanted), yet they could still be used by someone if needed. Even in this world we have crafters who create swords and armor for such reasons; like a tradition.

      I mean it could be an hobby for the villagers, but once they realise that there are people (player) willing to buy those, they sell them, like I don't think they have completely forgotten everything since they can still build and craft things, they are just not interested to do that and have enforced some form of culture of pacifism and so kick out anyone who goes against that (eg- illagers).

    • @ravenanimations3176
      @ravenanimations3176 4 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      I kinda just assumed they can use them, but don’t, since Illigers and Pilligers can use weapons, and Evokers can alternate between the sleeves together and arms in the air. They also seem to use simple tools like axes, pickaxes, and hoes on a semi-regular basis, considering that they have farmland, and houses with stone used for construction. Also, why would you take up using a sword when you have an Iron Protector that never sleeps, and keeps you safe? As soon as the player shows up though, they have a reason for making swords again, which is why you initially can’t buy them from a blacksmith most of the time. You can buy an axe, or some supplies, but swords aren’t unlocked until further transactions.
      Edit: I wrote this before I watched through the video, and I must say, I’m kinda proud

      maybe when they got to the end, they got attacked by the ender dragon (which is the last of its race as far as we know). and it told them it would spare their lives if they made it immortal. and the builders made magic crystals on high obsidian pillars that no one could reach that would keep the ender dragon alive until they were destroyed. but the dragon didn't let them leave and kept them there as servants/spies in the over-world. they built many city and survived on the fruits of the end until, generation by generation, they changed. and (just throwing it out) maybe steve grew up in the end and found a way to go to the overworld. the pillagers saw him get out, and tried to recreate steve and the tings he made while not understanding what they did. (maybe making accidentally making herobrine, a steve clone, in the process).

      Imagine this: The Ghasts and Iron Golems are actually from a literal castle in the sky- a moving, airborne biome (perhaps eventually seen in later game updates), built out of the technology of the ancient builders. That's why we don't see the Iron Golems lying around underground for villages to pop up and awaken them- they are literally dropped from the sky when the ancient technology detects a village with enough villagers to warrant protection (much like is seen in the referenced movie Castle in the Sky). The Ghasts that were native to the overworld originally were sky mobs that lived peacefully with the ancient builders (or more likely, they were created/modified by the builders considering the circuit boards and cannons seen in the Mobestiary) . That's why the achievement to take one to its "home" in the overworld and then killing it is labeled "uneasy alliance"- the concept of the alliance being that between builders and Ghasts (until Steve guts him for those sweet sweet tears- maybe the overworld Ghasts actually produced their magic tears while still alive, making them useful to the ancient builders, who decided they'd be way cooler with CANNONS).
      But when the builders started exploring the Nether they took Ghasts with them for protection... they just never brought them home.
      Is this all just because I want more Castle in the Sky references in everything and love the concept of seeing a sky biome someday? ...yes. yes it probably is. >_>

    I like this theory involving the split between the villagers and the builders, and it might explain the rise of the Illagers as well. At some point after the ancient builders disappeared, some villagers not content with their daily routine would probably have sought out something new and ended up discovering something about their ancestry, which would eventually lead to their banishment of the villagers wanted to avoid the same mistakes made by their ancestors. That would also explain the Illager's cargo culting.

    Going to write this out one more time: Ever wonder why it is that zombie villagers exist? Also, ever wonder why throwing a weakness potion at one and then feeding it a golden apple converts it into a normal villager? What does that mean for regular zombies? That couldn't work on them too, right? But what if, and stay with me here, it did and you as the player are living proof? Notice how every regular zombie wears the same shirt and pants as default skin Steve? does. What happened there, you ask? Well, even though villagers can't fight, they can still create potions and do blacksmithing. So one night an alchemist and a blacksmith cornered a zombie, the alchemist threw the weakness potion and the blacksmith fed the zombie the golden apple and then ran away before anything could happen. As luck would have it, the sun was just about to rise; and when it did the zombie got converted into you, the player. If you were still an unconverted zombie, the sun's rays would have made you burn up and die from the damage. Multiplayer servers prove the process is repeatable and dependable, but only in limited quantities. BUT HEY, THAT'S JUST A THEORY; A GAME THEORY!!! THANKS FOR READING!!!

      @wariodude128 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @Corona Virus Good question. Remember how I said near the end about how it's repeatable and dependable but only in limited quantities? That's because, depending on if you're playing a single player game or a multiplayer server, the effectiveness of said weakness potion and golden apple combo on a regular zombie varies from either one in a sextillion (single player) or one in a million (multiplayer). But hey, that's just a theory addendum; a game theory addendum. Thanks for reading.

Maybe some of the ancient builders ran to the end and over time became the endermen, and some stayed in the overworld and survived to eventually become villagers....... different environments, different selection pressures, eventually they’d be dealing with divergent evolution. The same starter species, but they evolved to survive in different environments. The villagers never had to defend themselves because they had the iron golems, so they lost their knowledge of fighting.

Tormented souls now forced to drown for eternity as each last breath is pushed out of them, a much stronger force than just normal bubbles.

    Mini Theory:
    It could be that villagers where actually just builder villagers before. Whilst the great builders lived in cities and went to different universes the villagers did not. They where the backbone of society (farmers, ect). This is why they to this day have blacksmiths, in the old times they used them for tools and such (tools for farming, not weapons). The job was passed down over generations even though it has no use.

    • @Generic_Noob
      @Generic_Noob 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      riccardo fascetti also, here is my theory. if builders and the villagers abandoned each other, then why would the villagers have brewing stands? To make a brewing stand, you need a blaze rod, if they didn’t go to the nether, then why would they have blaze rods. And also, why do the have churches? Do the worship a god? How would they have enchanted tools? If the wither did destroy the builder and came to the over world, why would they have still survived, why would they survive if the wither was still around? This could mean 2 things, 1, that the villagers are the builders and that they are survivors of the wither apocalypse and stopped progressing, being too afraid to carry on and decided to pray for a savior, which was you. However, by they, have already turned into a whole different being. Or 2, that the villagers were a new race, after the wither, that developed their own society, even up to the point where the builders left of. However, the villagers found out about ancient markings in a desert temple, that spoke of a devastating creature that would wipe out the world. They were shocked, and also found out that they are, or was not alone. They shut down all nether portals and destroyed them, no, all traces of the portals would be destroyed. Then, one day, a wandering trader spoke of a prophecy that there would be a new creature, that would be able to make machines that they couldn’t even comprehend. So they build churches and so that they could survive till that time comes, they built millions of millions of golems, conserving them wisely, and activating them in every time one was destroyed. And so they waited, and waited, they built and they built, until they forgot how to build, they were too scared of the fact that the wither would destroy them that they didn’t even know that a dozen or so golems could defeat it. (This also proves that the builders couldn’t have built golems as a just a few of them could destroy a wither.

    so I have some connections i noticed. So we believe that the villagers and ancient builders were the same once, but to go deeper, we also know that the iron golems can be created by putting 4 iron blocks in a T position and putting a pumpkin on top. And we also know that if we wear a pumpkin on our head endermen won't attack us. Which starts to prove that the endermen might be these builders. And the fact that the endermen don't attack villagers just make it even more clear. which i believe makes it all the more clear that mat is correct

    with this we need to go back to the illager's of the woodland mansions, cause with the revelation in this video we can discover that they aren't just copying the builders, but are instead trying to get back to a level of technology that was lost to them. They don't fully understand yes because their ancestors many generations back didn't keep records, or in the wake of the wither chose to forget, lock away their secrets and forbid it.
    something like this has happened before in another game franchise warhammer 40k where after the rebellion of the men of iron before the age of strife, those like the mechanicus of mars and the emperor of man forbid all research into AI, and chose to instead use human machine interfaces instead to do the same tasks that AI once handled. however due to this and many other factors that i can't really explain in a simple comment (just watch Luetin09 for more info), mankind in the 41st millennium never reachs the same level of technology it once has, sadly it has stagnated and started to fall even farther than before, losing knowledge on how to conctruct new peices of technology that only a millenia before they knew how to.
    In the end the illagers of the woodlands are in a sense like the mechanicus of mars, they are trying to rebuild technology their ansestors had, never truly understanding the blueprints. And sadly likely never will unless something changes, unless they find say an ancient cache of artifacts from the builders, or better yet scolls and books that explain how to create what they long to create. maybe even uncovering the ruins of a facility that made the golems where they will find the standard template construct for the golems themsselves. maybe then they could come back to the villages and teach the villagers their ways, in order to try and rebuild a world once lost to those so long ago...
