Could have something to do with the previous theory on why the builders escaped to the end. Something like this: "After losing the war with the piglin the builders prepared for an offensive on there homeland. Knowing that there was a chance that they could not defeat the piglin again, the builders turned to magic. They had tried to revive there dead and sicked the skeletal husks on the piglins. Pushing the piglins back with the Wither and curse of zombification the piglins had there civilization destroyed defending against the Wither that came through to there land and barely survived. But in the overworld the builders were betrayed by there own creation forcing them to the end." You know how the rest of the theory goes with the Old Builders prepared solving into endermen to survive and such.

The irony of the bed scene when talking about how rare netherite is, is that sleeping is the best way to get netherite. Just get a ton of beds and blow the nether into oblivion. It works super well
I feel like netherite may actually act as a form of catalyst that rearranges the carbon atoms in diamond to form a harder structure - which is why a diamond base item is required
@@neil963 Ah, I'm not very sure about my chemistry knowledge; but I think what I meant was that it allows/speeds up the reaction of the formation of such a structure in carbon, unless no such reaction exists?
A certain stick figure once told me that "hexagons are the bestagons" so to hear that a space gem is stronger than a diamond because of its hexagonal structure formed by three times the amount of heat and pressure of a normal diamond further proves this statement.
Once this series has ended I hope someone makes a Minecraft series based on the lore. That would be sick! Like start from the beginning of the Ancient Builders all the way up to The End

Theory: I always wondered about the bone blocks and when in the nether, you would find them in a shape as if there use to be large creatures that roamed the nether. And as like coal, coal was made from fossilized/buried remains. And I always thought the debris came from buried remains of those mysterious skeleton found in the nether. ( Since the large skeletons HINT that things decomposed. And netherite could of came from these remains just like coal )Thats why I thought it was called "ancient debris." I think you should DEFINITELY do a theory on the "Nether fossils." I think they're really mysterious and interesting and tends to be overlooked a lot.
@@RCian0 there's a video that analyze those fossils and end up concluding that it's the remains of a giant Wither. I like the theory and would love if Mat were to look into it since I think there's a chance he's looking at the lore from the wrong perspective and everything actually started in the Nether
8:45 not only that but in treasure bastions (one of the forms of bastions) you can find netherite in the bottom chests. This makes me guess that the different types of bastions had different purposes in the war (like treasure bastion for storing their valuables). Also probably the piglin brutes were the guards (since they are hostile no matter what and do more damage) and the normal piglins were just the ones who did some work around their homes. Idk, just a follow-up theory I had about that
We all know Herobrine doesn’t exist in the game but I’m curious what Matpat would come up with if he approached him as a purely lore character for Minecraft
tho I wish diamonds and emeralds were more common in the nether as well as maybe copper and iron in the end??? idk but would make it better because there's no bronze and steel and other gemstones and diamond colours in the game
I think this could possibly be a similar case to the villagers in the overworld. The piglins, having many similarities and even a close intellect to humans being able to barter and fight in flocks, even there clothing suggests overworld origins. It’s posible that after overworlders go to the nether some may have split separate ways, and after centuries if evolving they were unrecognizable. Then they may have fought with there ancestors for being traitors and not helping them in any way when they were attacked by the wither, and instead went into hiding witch is why we only see them in a recent update. It would explain the many similarities to Steve and also Tie into many other points made like the wither perfectly. It may also explain the end of the civilization.
I always just assumed netherite was super compacted blocks, maybe something like compact blackstone. It's an underground dimension, meaning it's closer to the center of the planet. The closer you get to the center of the planet, the more pressure there is. Maybe the pressure condensed Blackstone it into the super strong blocks they are. As for how they are so dense if everything else is so fragile (as in netherack is a super weak block) I think it's because the netherite was made much deeper down and the lava did what it does and made a volcanic eruption as to boost all that netherite up. And the lava eventually cooled down into the soft netherack. This also explains how we find lava pockets.
Thats smart and all but remember that the metal itself is used as plating and netherite blocks are found naturally unless its in bastion loot I believe. And also, Mojang confirmed that the nether isnt like the Underworld. It could be a separate planet for all we know. Also blackstone doesn’t look close to ancient debris, which is what netherite blocks are made of. So..
I mean, the ancient civilizations existence wasn't really the thing we didn't know about. Obviously they existed, how else would all these structures apear. The thing we dont know is their history, and they didn't confirm those theories.

Great theory, MatPat, absolutely love where all these things are going. I think the next thing you should do a theory on (keeping with the topic of the nether) is the Ghast and the Blaze. Don't know how you're going to do it, but I'd love to see what you can find! I'll be trying to find some stuff about it as well.
*6:52* I would argue with that. Bastion chests have exactly 42.1% Chance to spawn with Netherite Ingots in them, but not just that, they might also spawn with debris, scraps and even with Netherite goods like a lodestone!
You're right about bastion chests. Matpat talks about them later in the video. What he is talking about here are the chests found in nether fortresses, which do not contain nephrite.
You are kinda right.... BUT I come from a future where scientists at Florida University made platinum-gold alloy which is 25× harder than industrial steel and is malleable and is a bit dark and expensive!!!!
He meant in nether fortresses, basically he was saying the ancient race had to be different from the piglins bc piglins have netherite in their chests while the ancient race had none in their fortresses
@@Crazyturtle879 But you _can_ find Netherite ingots in Bastion Treasure Rooms (iirc there’s even something like a ~42% chance for a treasure room chest to have one, so it’s not even that rare)
one minor detail matpat forgot to point out, was when he said “Piglins are immediately hostile to you the player” when the piglins (Except for the brute variant) won’t attack you if you wear gold gear like golden boots
though that also makes sense the piglins were always depicted as greedy and hoarders so even if they see one of there great enemies apporaching if they are wearing gold its a sign they want to barter aka give the piglins gold hoping theyll give them something great in return
Its actually tungsten matpat because it has high durability and high melting point along with its metallic look lines up with it being Netherite because tungsten is found in small pieces with impurities which would explain why it would need gold to give it more mass and level out the impurities because gold is heavy and has a high melting point just like tungsten
Still nether and end is scarier to me. You just need to be silent in deep dark and if you fail that just run away warden cant catch you if you dont stand there
I love thinking about if a developer for any of the games covered on this channel watches a video, and MatPat’s theory is actually right, they go like “Holdup he’s onto something here…”
Since DnD Orcs canonically have pig heads (or at least they did in older versions, now it’s ambiguous) I like to think of Piglins as Minecraft’s version of Orcs and Villagers and Illagers their version of elves and dark elves. All we need now is cave villagers and illagers for dwarves and goblins and we’ll have a full-blown fantasy world on our hands
Matpat realising his theories are being confirmed deny mojang. “Yes yes yes” Him realising they are probably basing the lore on his theories not the other way around “No no no”
@@bepiculcool I wonder why there so obsessed with Gold? Is it because all other materials don't make armour? (Other than Netherite which is extremely hard to even get)?
Now it makes sense! I was always wondering why you couldn't really find any tools or armor in the bastion chests. If the ancient builders had built bastions, then there would probably have the tools and armor. But if the piglins built the bastions, then there wouldn't be any. It is also supported because you can rarely find netherite scrap.
bastions can have tools and armor through... they can have netherite too at that, including enchanted diamond tools and armor (they likely stole them though, due to them ALWAYS being damaged)
I believe that netherite is tungsten because it can be mixed with gold to form an alloy and is much stronger and resilient than diamonds, at first I thought netherite could’ve been carbon fibre but carbon fibre cannot be mixed with gold
"it's not found in any chest" it is VERY rare in bastion chests, i have a theory it was used by the ancient builders or the piglins, since the bastions don't belong to the piglins originally, the bastions, and the giant blast holes in the sides of them could say they used the netherite as canonballs, which would shatter on impact and fall to the lava and ground below
Theory: What if Steve was a zombie, but was revived at the start of a new world? One of the cave sounds is actually the same sound the villagers make when they are revived and that means Steve remembers that sound, another evidence is the starter chest, what if someone revived Steve and left for him some tools to ensure his survival, another evidence is the cave sounds and records 11 and 13, which sound that Steve had a traumatic experience or? died and is slowly remembering what he heard before he died.
There's also a theory that says ancient debris is platinum so netherrite is a platinum and gold alloy, cause it has a really big heat resistance / melting point. And it's rare.
@@myweirdsecondchannelwithap9070 Where is the platinium in minecraft? Its clearly not platinium based. Also its fictional find me an alloy called netherite.(At best an inspiration nothing more)
In terms of lore, I think the reason netherite weapons and armor are plated instead of 100% pure netherite is because it's so damn rare, not because diamond is neccesary to the process.
@@jacksonville9642 probably because they wanted to make it a upgrade to diamond and not have to make netherite variants of every material and balance it.
@@HexagonThatReallyLikesVinegar Your statement is irrelevant. The real world reason Mojang wanted to do something for practicality is not in question, only the lore. We're talking in game explanations, not out-of game.
Mat, you forgot one major detail concerning netherite. To even GET the stuff, you require a diamond pickaxe. As you said, the only natural metal or ore in the nether is gold, and though it is useful to the piglins, it cannot break netherite. Sure, maybe they got a few diamonds from slain ancient builders, and this is hinted in the treasure at the bottom of treasure bastions, but they couldn’t make an entire fortress from the stuff unless they won a LOT of battles. I love your channel tho, keep up the sleuthing for this kind of stuff.
This actually explains why Piglins do not have netherite armor, maybe before they mined out all the netherite it was able to be mined via gold, but now since it has condensed, netherite scrap is only obtainable via diamonds.
Mini fan theory: Piglins are automatically aggressive unless you are wearing gold armor, based on their behavior and your theory, there is no reason why wearing gold should lower their aggression but rather that they should kill you and steal it. So my theory is that the ancient builders were split into factions(you kinda talked about this in your ender dragon theory) and some of those factions were either not hostile or possibly even allied with the piglins. With that as precedent, maybe wearing gold was a way for piglins to identify which humans were friends and which were enemies. As far as brutes still attacking you, they could represent a different faction with the piglin race or, as guards, they are tasked with chasing away anyone who gets too close to their homes, friend or foe
I was also thinking that because you're wearing gold (like a full suit), they find you 'rich' and not worth killing if you already have an abundance of gold. Willing to trade anything they have for SOME scrap of gold.
@@LaMishiMish yah maybe they see you as a high cast in piglin society by wearing gold, I mean piglins pretty much worship gold so it's not that implausible
Jesus loves you! I warn you of your sins, repent and believe the Gospel! If you love Him then keep His commandments! MAKE THE CHOICE, JESUS OR THE WORLD, JESUS IS ETERNAL, THE WORLD IS PASSING AWAY.
Not to mention that his explanation for the lore also avoided the more obvious idea that it formed from junk left behind by the builders subjected to high T and P in favour of the ridiculous and more flashy claim that piglins used to have entire fortresses of netherite and were somehow still defeated and this abundant netherite just vanished.

This implies that since netherite was all mined out, there used to be piglin societies using full netherite armor. As a player, one ingot is only used as a outer plating of the diamond armor, making it fire resistant and tougher, maybe piglins found a way to actually make pure netherite armor and weapons

Got a theory for ya, MatPat, and I think it's a bit of a doozy. There were once only two biomes in the nether, the crimson forest and the basalt deltas. When the ancient builders came, the crimson wood fascinated them, a tree in the nether. They wanted a better one, however. They manipulated the forests, and there you get the Warped Forests. These places were viscously guarded by the ancient builders, and other species learned to avoid them. They harvested the wood without replenishment, and the blue grass ran out, leaving nether wastes behind. Eventually the builders were driven out, but some of them still cling to the forests they fought so hard for. This is why warped forests exist, why they are warped, and why only endermen spawn there. The soul sand valleys are battlefields, remnants of the war. Hope to see this in MORTY! 🙂🙏

Yeah. MOJANG SCARP THAT DAMN MINECRAFT MOVIE AND GET WORKING ON THIS!!!!!
As long as it's not based of what Mathew is saying here
I always just assumed netherite was super compacted blocks, maybe something like compact blackstone.
Hot pockets
That makes much more sense
Thats smart and all but remember that the metal itself is used as plating and netherite blocks are found naturally unless its in bastion loot I believe. And also, Mojang confirmed that the nether isnt like the Underworld. It could be a separate planet for all we know. Also blackstone doesn’t look close to ancient debris, which is what netherite blocks are made of. So..
I thought it was proven the nether isn't under the overworld, but rather a different world or dimension altogether
That makes sense because the basalt deltas were formed from ancient volcanos

It is also supported because you can rarely find netherite scrap.

In terms of lore, I think the reason netherite weapons and armor are plated instead of 100% pure netherite is because it's so damn rare, not because diamond is neccesary to the process.
Netherite isn't diamonds. It's a metal not a gem. Also it's made with gold again not diamonds.

In Minecraft dungeons, you can find massive drills, presumably made by piglins.
As far as brutes still attacking you, they could represent a different faction with the piglin race or, as guards, they are tasked with chasing away anyone who gets too close to their homes, friend or foe
th-cam.com/video/3Bxf2o27ykM/w-d-xo.html
I was also thinking that because you're wearing gold (like a full suit), they find you 'rich' and not worth killing if you already have an abundance of gold. Willing to trade anything they have for SOME scrap of gold.

This guy gets it

Wakanda forever 🙏🏽🙅🏽♀️
One thing that I’m still thinking about, though, is why do pigeons just chill around their zombified variations? You’d think one would attack the other, at least.
This implies that since netherite was all mined out, there used to be piglin societies using full netherite armor. As a player, one ingot is only used as a outer plating of the diamond armor, making it fire resistant and tougher, maybe piglins found a way to actually make pure netherite armor and weapons
RGN’s theory is that the ancient builders used Piglins as slaves to mine gold and netherrite but the Piglins revolted
both theories are solid gold... I mean nephrite
@@mechasaure9801 ok lol
Ah Yes, _Nephrite._

Wowww th-cam.com/video/FSSFgWlDbJU/w-d-xo.html.
agreed
He'll will be a little theorist one day
Now scientists have found something stronger then diamonds. Real life finally getting that nether update.
Funnily enough Netherite Ingots and Ancient debris can be found in Bastion Chests, but not fortresses. It is very rare though. I found both a few weeks ago before the 1.18 update.
Minecraft needs an achievement called "piglin peace" where you repair the bastion and the piglins don't attack you because you helped them.
And as a benefit, the piglins in the bastion (the ones who spawned there) will give you better deals for your gold.
How would the game know that you've repaired the bastion tho
@@Destroyer94100 ya they mite not even know what they used to look like considering they mite be so old no one knows what they used to look like
trust me im no professional game dev but thats really not how that works
@@Destroyer94100 a bar count which shows how much blocks you need to repair it. it counts down after each placed block until it says you can't place any more blocks.. kinda like a village raid.. at least that what I think it will look like if put that in
Yes Matt can’t wait for more Minecraft lore also try to put it into a category that’s in order so we can watch it to the beginning to end and repeat without the searching

"Nothing's harder than diamond? Trying waking up at 6AM"
I see what you did there......
mojang: we want them to figure it out by themselves"
matpat: *challenge accepted*
When all of this is done I want matpat to make a video linking all of the minecraft theories. It would be so interesting not only see the overall story and the development of his theorizing abilities.
when 1.16, the nether update, came out you where able to find netherite gear in bastions. however it was removed through pressure from the community due to it being "overpowered", which it kinda was. but this offers more proof to your theory. they don't use the gear in the chest because of the fear that it might break and then they would be defenseless with ought their superweapon
Without*
Plus you can find diamonds gears in some bastions chest
maybe the pigs who were set in are the piglins that are taking revenge on humans for trapping them
Being a mega game lore enthusiast, Matpat's lore videos are my favorites. I wish he did them more often!

that's called a conspiracy theorist
CONSPIRACY Theory xD
This video is not a rickroll
th-cam.com/video/UjxtFW7EUtA/w-d-xo.html
it'd be called "Life Theory"
Interesting thought, the ancient civilization might’ve been more of civilizationS, emphasis on the plural. Or at least been different acting in certain ways within the same civilization. When wearing gold it could be a sign of diplomacy.
i think we need the answer to way nethrite is magnetic case and point loadstone and the way a loadstone compass works
please like this i want to be heard
Minecraft lore is one of my favorite things honestly. From the way it’s presented to all the theories about it. When it comes to gaming, I’ve never really been interested in discovering lore on my own. I prefer to just mindlessly play the game without needing to worry about it. However I still appreciate lore and I like looking into it. Minecraft presents its lore in such a perfect way for me. It’s obviously there, but I can still continue to mindlessly play without thinking about it. Idk if this is just me tho.
the ancient builders from the end desperatly trying to get back what they once had going as far as to teleport to a place they once protected so heavily.......
THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE

josuke's stand should be called crazy lonsdaleite
In the overworld, i sometimes come across large holes that have naturally generated and I have decided they are craters.
I can't wait to see the new strongholds in a more buried city-like setting with the warden protecting it like in one of the most recent trailers. that, I think, will hold some amazing lore hints
I'm convinced they have no idea, and are letting fans decide the lore 😂
Every dev that has ever existed
That’s a genius idea just leaving clues for the players imaginations.
A genius idea to grab stuff for fans and put it into a game then say it was all intended 🤌
If you think about it literally anything in the nether or end is from space. Dimensions exist in difference space times. The Nether is not earth, and anything not from earth is considered alien. So yes, it is from space. I don't know why they needed a whole 11 minutes to say something that took me 30 seconds to type lol
@@Jeshky2004 So you can get on a spaceship and go to different dimensions?
