    Is there anythign that is not simply superlative, nearly flawless by Spyres? The timbre, the vocal production, the range, the musicality, the diction, the expressive phrasing, the vibrancy of the tone, the coloratura and trills, the control of dynamics, the knowledge of the musical style, the uniformly rock-solid development of his low notes as well as his highest notes. He's got everything, in many ways he reminds me the legendary Gedda. People should be more aware that we're living amidst one of the best tenors in many, many decades.

    It is very difficult to find contemporary artists in the male repertoire that could have been stars in any age. I dare say that Michael Spyres is one such artist. Brilliant, brilliant performance!

    Beautifully sung. Playful, expressive throughout the range and trills sung were (here it comes) AMAZING! I don’t think I’ve heard such accomplished trills from a tenor before. Also, remarkable good and strong, sustained low notes from a high voice. I do not speak French fluently but his is excellent also. Bravo!!

      I agree with you. No tenor can do those trills like Spyres today. We had Blake in the good old days.

      Listen to him singing Figaro in the act 1 duet from Barbiere with Larry Brownlee (Almaviva). Spyres still has the baritone bones!

    • @boundary2580
      @boundary2580 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @XDranzer000 his voice is truly ridiculous. The video of him singing largo del factotum has him showing off a truest baritonal mid range and even has him singing a quiet but still audible low C during the “Fígaro!” bits. I think he is ultimately some kind of freak tenor rather than a baritone because he is far to full and comfortable on his highs to be a baritone.

      Historical singers such as Josef Schmidt and Hermann Jadlowker have recorded spectacular trills. Schmidt's recording of this aria in a live broadcast has wonderful ones.

    So glad to hear Mr. Spyres in the soft French repertoire : he is such at home and currently matchless in this latter. I haven't heard such a good Postillon since Luca Canonici, but if Mr. Spyres' high D is not as powerful as Luca Canonici's, his French is so much better, just perfect.

    Yes, this is the kind of repertoire that he has to cling on to and leave that sheer lunacy of thinking that he´s a BARITENOR, and ever worse, sing baritone repertoire. Same as in LES HUGUENOTS or GUILLAUME TELL he has a brilliant and secure canopy of high notes, in this case blasting Chapelou´s wonderful D natural at the end of this splendid aria/raconto. I hope that he makes some sense, some logic and that the steers clear from all the other nonse of which I´ve just spoken. It would be good for him and for the audiences. Let logic and reason prime!!!!

      Lohengrin and Ballo in Maschera may be coming soon. He's in his mid-40s, after all. That being said, why sing what others can, I'd rather hear him sing classical and romantic era music.

    • @frb1808
      @frb1808 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The whole span of Verdi's career is within the Romantic era, although not as early as the likes of Donizetti.
      I'm interested to hear his low notes in his tenor roles because he started as a baritone and can still sing like one.

      Barone Vitellio Scarpia Thank you Barone for bringing some reality about how operatic voices should sound into the mindless adulation this no doubt fine fellow receives on TH-cam. If one had time it would be interesting to show how in just a few bars he can display several and sometimes opposing technical faults.
