I don't think it's optimistic mainly because know one knows the full extend of the problems and how much individuals can play a part in mitigating the worst effect. The worst case scenario is clearly disastrous but it's also made on the bases that no mitigation was in effect. I think it will be terrible but will come as a series of cascade failure. But since there's no clear picture...

Travis, despite the computer age and promises when I started in Customs that freight forwarding would be virtually paperless within 15 years ( that took it to 1998) , it never happened. So many people, agents, Border agencies, etc all still want hard copies. It's a worldwide issue not the UK or EU. One particular 4xweekly cargo flight with an average of 80 tonnes into Stansted can have as much as 10kg of cargo documents. Where is that paperwork from ...Hong Kong.
If the cargo movements were all online, then you could claim project fear. It is NOT. Far far from it. As likely as a no deal exit is now, and I think even hard line remainers are so fed up many are saying "FFS just get on with it", just like having a painful tooth pulled out, it's blind to say bad things won't happen. They will. It's going to hurt. But I guess we'll bounce back. It's just a question of how much is it going to hurt.
UK imports 53% from Europe. The remaining 47% comes from other Nations UNDER EU trade deals. In case of a hard Brexit, UK will have to negotiate new deals under WTO with dozens of countries individually. But: When UK tries to make deals that will undermine EU trade, EU as a block will put pressure on the Nation or country that tries to do so by threatening a boycott on their products.
So who will that nation choose? UK with 67million inhabitants, or a market of 550million inhabitants? There is no good outcome for anyone here.
The 53% includes the Rotterdam effect. If a cargo ship from china drops off half its load in Holland and half in Britain, that counts as trading with Europe.

I have been born and brought up in Northern Ireland and from what I have seen and heard of the troubles, we really dont need that coming back again...

The only thing that will make Brexit difficult is political will. The EU wanted the vote undone, like it has engineered previously with other votes. But this is the UK, we don't work that way. The EU doesn't want disruption any more than we do, it would have to physically put in place all the checks and boundaries and borders, we won't be doing it. We can just carry on as normal until we have the free trade deal that has been withheld so far as a stalling tactic. If the EU really didn't care if we left or not it would have sensibly negotiated a phased withdrawal/future trade deal crossover period as we cut ties gradually in some areas and made sensible arrangements for others. But no, the EU wanted to play games and do the withdrawal 'deal' first, against the spirit of its own treaties. It is obvious to me they really thought we'd change our minds after 3 years of colluding with the media and Remainers in our govt to bombard us with scare stories, obfuscate the facts and smear our national character. They simply don't understand who we are. We don't give in to bullies.
I bought a small house in France to retire to in about 20 years as I couldn't afford one here. So I won't be able to live in it for half the year and my state pension would be affected if I try to gain french residency so my future is f#cked.

The question I have is "Who are they going to blame for all the bad that happen after Brexit?" Politicians don't take responsibility for what they say and do, it's always someone else who's the devil. At the end of the blaming game you are only left with your reflection in the mirror to blame. I'm afraid there are no winners in this game, only losers. But some are so stubborn they will never admit it.
Scapegoating is a neccessary part of the Brexit Fascism project/con job, its likely that when the government can't blame the EU any longer they;ll turn to the few migrants that would want to stay in such a hostile country, then it'll be the poor, disadvantaged, disabled, & political opponents - anyone who, unlike the leaders of Brexit, can't afford a super-yacht and their own fortified personal island to flee to after from the sell off of the NHS and other key public serices (and as banknotes become toilet paper) and the scores of destitute people begin to voice their rage at being so comprehensively manipulated.
Put simply though the answer is "whoever they want" Don't forget that we won't even have the human rights act in the future.

Longbow Drawn - In my humble bad country employers are required by law to pay the minimum wages to every worker. Inspectors are daily inspecting workplaces to control if foreign workers are handled like natives and have legal contracts and are not payed "peanuts". If you handle foreigners like you do your own people a lot of your valid grieves would evaporate like snow in the sun. If your country allows people to be payed peanuts that is bad lawmaking and governing, and shows little respect for it's own people. The EU can not run or impose laws on your sovereign country, your politicians have to run the country and make the laws. Leaving the EU won't change inadequate laws or politicians.

Just let us remember that there was never a single day in the entire history of Ireland when the people of Ireland wanted any connection with England or any border. The Irish people voted in the early 1920s to tell Britain to get out and stay out. Then Britain decided to put the border there at gunpoint against the wishes of the people of Ireland. They now claim that he unionists in the North are a "Majority". You can call any group of people a majority if you put a border around them. We know the answer to the Irish issue. Britain get out and stay out.

Actually the Protestants wanted to stay with the UK, and had a referendum confirming this. Personally I don't mind either way. It makes sense to me that Ireland is a single country if only because of geography.

@youshi So I wasn't old enough to vote Leave at the time, but if I was I would've 100% voted to leave and I still would to this day.
I have a few reasons why, but when it comes down to immigration I think we should be able to choose who comes into the country, kind of like Australia.
If you could choose the people who come into the country then we could welcome in doctors, teachers, builders, and turn away people who might not have any qualifications or skills.
As far as illegal immigration goes I think a lot of people understand that leaving won't fix that problem. I mean they're coming into the country illegally, if they were coming through the EU then we wouldn't have them risking their lives to get here. Still think we should send them back however, illegal imigrants are illegal as the name might give away.
But anyways, I also wanted us to be able to make our own laws and trade with the rest of the world freely under international trade rules.
The UK could trade with America, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, China (The rest of the world) and I think that's a good thing. The first year or two may be difficult, I'm sure it will. But after those two years we'll be great. For example, we could easily buy lamb from New Zealand like we used to years ago and get cheap lamb.
And as for laws I think we should be able to make our own laws. Did you know that by health and safety laws when working on fire alarms you can only be on the ladder for a total of 45 minutes? Any more than that then you can't use that ladder until your next job.
The times may not be 100% accurate, but those rules are enforced by the EU so we can't even change it.
There's tons of silly laws which we could change to benefit our country.
I know you're really against Brexit and I'm sure you have your reasons and a TH-cam comment won't change your mind, but if I've got anyone to think whilst reading this then I'm at least happy.

I think you fail to understand how imports work. WTO means that tariffs have to be universal, it doesn't mean you have to accept goods from everywhere, we will get our food from the same places we currently get our food. We have our own regulations on what food can be sold here and what can't.

Well I've noticed a lot more racism in UK. Am kind of sad am a part of the UK really. I was hoping once my studies were done I'd move to eu countries but they ruined that. Hardly any jobs as well. I feel sorry for folk that gave up their nationality to stay here. I'd give mine away if I could.

It's not democracy if the minority can outvote the majority. The Scottish are extremely over represented compared to their population and have many devolved powers. Also if you really did 'give up' your nationality to be here then surely you should be a little more understanding of your adopted nation? A little more attached to it?
I think the British public voted for No Deal when we voted to leave. We want no part of their meddling in the way we run our country and economy.Now there are MPs who think they know better than the public what we need - but they will be gone at the next election if they fail to realise they are there to represent the voters views and wants not their own. It is appalling that the Government has been trying to 'negotiate' with the EU when no negotiation between Parliament and an unelected EU bureaucracy is required - we just trade with the EU as we do with the rest of the world - no favours or deals required. It is the British way to be fair and treat all the same and we want out of the EU 'cartel'. Leave it to the businessmen and the public to sort it out - no government intervention required - they are patently useless and not up to the task of what ought to be simple enough. Just say 'No' and 'Go' to those EU and Remainer fools who don't seem to understand how democracy (rule by the people) works.

I am studying in germany and I would love to go to britian for a semester or two but because of Brexit it's more easy to go to America and Australia to study than to a country not even a 2000km away.

Maybe yes, maybe not but it's a very easy thing to do, and there actually something important to talk about if a deal does happen. Since that would mean you truly start the negotiations for the agreements you will have after you left.
If you don't know exactly what is in the deal between the UK and the EU you can't really say.

Ummm.... what are the stipulations of the deal? Why would the EU accept? It doesn’t seem as if the U.K. has any leverage here. Why do business in the U.K.? Why not move to another EU country? Too much hassle.
So how do people in the EU fly to countries outside the EU? How do products from outside the EU come into the EU? Everybody else outside of the EU seems to be doing JUST fine, why can't the UK?

No one really knows for a single reason: that Brexit thing is just someone jumping out of a car, hoping for the best
You know this is about worth. How much is UK worth to the EU and how much is the EU worth to the UK? Let's face it, the UK is no longer the imperialist powerhouse it use to be, and imperialism is not going to come back into fashion anytime soon. Nor do I think UK would be able to, with American military might. SO now you have a country that has no gunboat diplomacy left. You are just another country like to your own ingenuity like everyone else. It's physically small, meaning a big limitation to raw materials so primary industries will never be worth much to the entire EU. Your economy is too mature to be a manufacturing powerhouse. There are already countries with larger populations that are willing to work for cheaper and longer hours. So then you're left with the service industries.
That's what this video is missing. If the EU wanted to, they will move their financial sectors out of London. They don't need to actually move out, they just need to simply stop making London the "European" financial centre. And then UK is properly screwed. Not for a bit or for the short term, but the long term. A lot of money will stop coming in London, a.k.a UK. That has a real knock on effect to everything related to the economy.
People also don't really mention the millions of pounds the EU has given to pave roads, fund schools and create bridges in the UK. A lot of infrastructure was paid with EU money. I wonder where the money will come from now? Because the UK government sure doesn't have it. Maybe in a few years you'll see "sponsor a highway" signs in UK like you do in USA...
Countries didn’t randomly pick London for trade. I agree the EU was a reason London was successful but you have to take into account financial regulations, the prevalence of English and infrastructure. It’s not gonna completely collapse

I don't think it will completely collapse. I just think UK will slowly and consistently degrade in global standing and political influence because of Brexit. The EU won't leave London overnight, they need to build their brand up. I see no reason for European countries to not conduct their legal and financial actions in, say Berlin or Paris. A lot of the people working in the financial sector in London are European expats working in European companies. It's not hard to start moving operations to another location if the EU coordinates it.
The only type of money London's financial sector would be attracting the most, would be from places like Russia, Africa and the Middle east. Since Asia already has Hong Kong and America has New York. Which is still a lot of business, but you have to admit that's a big blow to UK if that actually happened. And it's very possible. UK doesn't provide business to countries, UK provide the middle men to conduct business for countries. Not that hard to replace. @@5542tom

Well. Nigel has ran away just after the referendum. He was supporting Brexit so much but when his side won, left UKIP and didn't take any part in negotiations or making any project for Great Britain's future. Boris... Well, he forgot to ask Canadians and other nations what they think about his idea of new rules of trade with UK. Maybe he didn't attend history classes and doesn't know that the British Empire is gone and they have to negotiate with other states not only demand to accept their terms. Maybe he doesn't realize that there are states far more powerful than UK this days (for example Germany).

Thats what trade bloc is, EU is a successful trade bloc thats why non member (canada, aussie, japan, usa etc) wish to have a deal with EU. The EU does not fund the biggest research in unis companies do. As far as pensions go the Euro Zone has seen a 26% growth in their economy since its inception and in the same time Britain has seen a 46% growth rate.
Between 2007 and 2013, the EU spent 107 billion € on research, development and innovation. 8.8 billion of which was spent in the UK. The UK was the second largest recipient after Germany.

I want to question one point made in this video. It was claimed if the UK trades tariff free with the EU after Brexit. The UK must then trade tariff free with the rest of the world under WTO rules. So how does the EU trade with all the EU countries tariff free and have tariffs for the rest of the world. The EU is also subject to WTO rules, therefore if it trades tariff free with an EU member it must then trade free with the rest of the world as under WTO rules this would give all EU countries an unfair trading advantage with each other.. Oh no a spanner to your plan.

No one knows what would happen if we left the EU. It's all hypothesis. I just want to get out, and get out fast. Possibly with NO conditions forced on us by the EU. But as a student the idea of free travel is hugely beneficial to me. I think a no deal brexit is the best option. The UK don't want the EU to do well and the EU don't the UK to do well. So if we just walk away with no deals than no one will be an advantage. You don't know what you've lost until you've lost it.

Of course Plan A was a deal. But no country would accept the 'deal' offered by the EU. And the EU made sure to try and lock us in before even talking about trade. A cynical and manipulative move. I think they thought if they stalled long enough, laid the Project Fear on thick enough and besmirched our national character, that we'd be beaten down and undo the vote - like they were able to do in Ireland over the Lisbon Treaty. The EU has never understood us Brits and never will.

You forgot the main point, the overarching big picture.
The EU sells more stuff to GB than GB sells to the EU, therefore Germany has the jobs and the surplus while GB has the unemployed and the deficit.
Hard Brexit without deal does NOT mean everything becoming more expensive and transport becoming complicated, but means the Brits get to manufacture their stuff themselves, the British industry will experience a gigantic boom and jobs will be created by the millions, while only a few truck driver jobs will get lost.

Of course it would be FAR better, if the EU would make a law saying all countries must have a balanced trade, so the Germans can no longer import jobs to export goods while the rest of Europe imports unemployment alongside deficits, but since the EU doesn't have any plans for that, leaving the EU is the only way to get the jobs back and that obviously requires leaving without deal.

The main difference between Switzerland and GB ist the membership in the EU, they are both mostly based on financial services.
You can argue all you like, if there's an economic problem in GB that doesn't exist in Switzerland, then that's due to EU membership, simply because from an economic point of view that's the only difference.

So in effect, the issues truly raised (chaos at Dover, compared to the well planned Calais) come from our own governments ineptitude? Trade tariffs might cause some issues with pricing of some stuff, sure, but the markets have always been changing, and always will change, this is just going to result in a load of small changes at once. New trade deals will be set up pretty quickly with the EU countries, and importing food and pharmaceuticals will happen sooner rather than later. Even if the import fees are high, the market here is too large to pass up on. Basically, we've got too big of an economy for the EU and individual countries to just stop trading with our country for good, and even if they do attempt that, it'll just result in other suppliers moving in and trading with us instead.
Sure, the Irish border is an issue, but once again it's a kink that will have to be worked out over time, and it was silly to think that an agreement could be achieved on such an important topic in such little time. Still, I don't think a no deal Brexit is going to be as world ending as people are making it out to be. I'd love to be corrected/debate in the comments if other people disagree or notice that I've said anything wrong, I'm always one to keep an open mind, but in my opinion, the people voted, and the government has to act, despite most of the MPs, as mentioned in the video, not wanting brexit at all.
Quick trade deals with individual EU countries? You are leaving the EU because you can't do individual deals as a member.

I don't know how bad it is going to be in the end, but obviously it would be much better if the UK actually planned this out a little better. At this late in the game, they have not even decided if they are going to do a no deal brexit or not.

@@skyblazeeterno Depends on the country. Places like the US have trade deals being negotiated in under 20 months, and I know Obama said 'back of the queue' but Trump has stated repeatedly that he's willing to negotiate trade as soon as we leave, providing we do it without accepting May's deal.
America is one of the largest import/export partners, and so setting up a deal is in the interest of both us and them, and so I think the same will go for the EU once everything settles down.
This being said, the EU in the case of Canada set up a trade deal in a year, and after the deal was set up, Canada saw a rise in exports to the EU. So it's historically accurate to say that a trade deal is better for both us and the EU.
All in all, being as I'm not an economist, and I don't think anyone can accurately say what time frame we're looking at deals to be set up in, I'd guess at maybe 1-2 years with America, and 3-4 years with the EU, given that our government isn't exactly shining right now when it comes to striking deals.
