I saw a tip about this loom that was important. The stitches tend to get too tight and hard to loom over. So instead of doing the wrapping all the way around, as it gets tighter and tighter, try doing 5 or 10, then yarn over, then move on. This keeps it somewhat loose and easier to control the tension. This has helped me with this loom.
I've ordered this loom just today from JoAnn's and I cannot wait to receive it. I'm an avid loomer, hats, gloves, scarves which have all become presents for Christmas in a few days but next year, I want everyone to have a nice new afghan for their beds or couches ...I'm so excited, I can't wait to start!
Great review! I've made two 60" x60" blankets on this loom and it's great for a painfully uncoordinated beginner like myself. One thing I wanted to point out was that as the blanket got longer than 30" or so, the weight of the blanket tended to pull a few of the pegs loose. Before I started the blanket I'm working on now, I tugged on all the pegs and put a dab of super glue in the hole of each loose one. Solved the problem.
Outer side normal needle work. Inner loom reverse the needle in upside down mode Like reverse e-wrap back and forth motion. Takes me roughly 15 minutes per 198 pegs with wrap knit and press down per run
Thanks so much for the information on the afghan loom. I needed information on a loom to make a blanket, without having it so big to loom on. You are very detailed in explain how it works, types of yarn. Now and can make a blanket !!!!!
I love loom knitting! I started about 3 years ago by learning to make baby hats and donating them to our local program for first time parents and the hospital.
I recently bought the S loom because I wanted to make a blanket and my largest round loom ended up being more like a shawl size. I am SO happy I stumbled across your channel when looking up tips to use the S loom. I am new to anything yarn-related (yikes) and your tutorials about loom knitting are so informative! I can’t wait to check out the website you mentioned and maybe find a figure 8 styled stitch (please excuse my ignorance!) I just want to make sure the figure 8 on the S loom will still be wide enough to make a blanket 50 or 60 inches wide/long. I would love if you could direct me to any other of your videos that might mention this! I have enjoyed watching your videos, they really are the best for beginners like me. Thank you, thank you for making them!
Question. I have the same issue with rolling on the long sides with a manual sweater knitting machine and I found that if I do a single crochet stitch with a matching yard it helps the project to lay flat and not curl up. I love these looms.
@kewtkittyify use the basic bind of but use the ewrap method and keep it loose. If you normally have a really tight tension try my stretchy basic bind off. It adds an extra ewrap before moving forward. Check out the video. Be sure to make a swatch first. Cast on 12 stitches in your cast on of choice. Knit 3-4 inches and then try the bind off. If you don't like the result just pull out the bind off and place back on the pegs. Now try the next bind off option. Testing first will save frustration.
Thank you! I came here to see if you mentioned whether or not the pegs come out. I am looking for an afghan loom whose pegs don't come out. I don't think you answered that question, but you answered a bunch of questions I didn't even think to ask!
I have this loom and it is very well made and cost about $50. It has slightly flexible pegs but they don't break. I am glad I bought it and think it will last me a lifetime. My granddaughters are going to get some nice crafting stuff when I finally pass on! LOL
Thanks for taking the time to do such a complete review you thought of everything! I wasn't sure this was the loom for me until I watched it. You have answered all of the questions I had, now I just have to order one!, I can't wait for mine but I wouldn't have bought it so quickly without your review, thanks!
I am VERY new to loom knitting. So far all I have done is a basic scarf which came apart when I got a knot in my yarn and snatched the whole thing off the loom trying to get the know out..........................but anyway, I am getting my "Loom Knit Kit" together and have purchased the Afghan Loom reviewed in this video, the 28" KB Loom, the 18" All in One Loom, and a set of oval looms. Oh, and I picked up a row counter and flower loom yesterday too. Can you advise of any other essentials I may need as I embark on this knitting journey? Thanks so much!!! Nedra the Knitting Novice :) (I am also trying to teach myself to work with needles, but that is gonna take some time......your videos are most helpful)
I would like to see a video on how to knit from start to finish with the Afghan Loom. I am just learning how to knit on the round looms.,please and Thanks
Thanks for the video...I just got this for myself and am excited to use it. I am new to loom knitting and I'm wondering if you have any videos on using this to loom knit a basic baby blanket. Thanks again.
No I'm sorry I don't. However if you use the longest new knitting board 28" loom you can use my triple rib stitch and make a one piece baby blanket easily!
It sounds like you are going back and forth in a flat panel. You purl 5 stitches and then knit. The purl you have been placing your working yarn below the loop. Now the knit place it above. The working yarn goes in the same direction.
Thank you for your help I do want to learn this and I also want to do a good job to. It is also important to me that I enjoy the process. I crochet very good , but I have being at my wits end to teach myself how to knit. I love the look of knitting. So thank you very much for your help. I will be trying hard to learn, I can't wait to show you my first project. I will probably start this at the first of the month.💖🙃
If I am doing a basket weave pattern on the S LOOM, that is knit 4, purl 4 x 4 rows and then purl 4, knit 4 x 4 rows: when I make the turn for rows 1-2-3-4 I’m not sure exactly what to do. Since I am basically going in the opposite direction over what I just purl stitched for example do I purl 4, knit 4? Just asking if the goal is to keep it K4, P4 from left to right on the blanket??? Hopefully I am making sense and you can help me out!!!! Also should there be a transition stitch between rows or just pull the yarn in front of the pegs and go? Looking forward to your advice! Really enjoy your tutorial videos on TH-cam!!

Do you know of a pattern to make a blanket with the border without having to go back to add the border. With this loom. I wanted to do the border in garter stitch and the body in stockinet stitch. Thank you.
@"D Francisco-Kalawaia" this is a REVIEW. I am not paid to review. The things I am talking about are real answers to real questions about the loom. Later in the video I compare to show it's easier to use. I already have a cast on video for an S loom and I wrote a pattern. This is not a tutorial.
Thank you for your very informative videos. Ive found them to be very helpful. I'm looking for a good loom to use worsted weight yarn to make afghans for our local warm-up charity. They require the afghans to be made from a single strand of worsted (4). They actually provide most of yarn we use and it is mostly Red Heart Super Saver or Bernat Super Value. Would this loom work with that yarn, or should I look for a finer guage? TIA
Hi, love your videos. Hope you could help me. I now ewraps will curl up my project, blanket. Can I do maybe a 6 row boarder of uknit or purl wrap and inside blanket is ewrap? Will that help with curling?
I have all the looms that you advertise but now I ready to experiment on mt afghan loom . The stitches I am intrested in is the weaving stitch for making blankets. Is it possible to make large blankets with this stitch? Maybe you xan give me some easy ideas for stitches to use and thank you for your encouragement. I have 3 strokes and these looms are good for therapy.
When you don't want your edges to curl, do you mean the sides of the blanket? So in that case you would do the different type of stitch on the first couple of pegs and the last couple correct?
So I am new and learning so I'm wondering for a new person which of the afghan looms are teh best to start on? I want to make one piece baby blankets mover that 17" wide. . I am considering this loom or the 100 peg 5/8. I like to use the thicker yarns as I am sight impaired. Thanks so much I love your videos!
I have a few round CinDWood hat looms, a mini scarf CinDwood loom, a Blackbird innovations long loom, and a few of the cheap chinese made plastic looms (the plastic chinese made are what I started with back in December). if Joann's carries this, I might buy it there if I have a coupon for 50% off.
I can loom on a circular loom but for some reason I'm not understanding how to do a flat panel afghan per written instructions. I only know e wrapping. Is there a walk through video of this stage not a following after you cast on.
When ever I did a knit stitch on the s loom my yarn kept on breaking so I wasn't to happy with that so I returned it and I am going to get a different loom set
I would like to see a video on how to start and a couple rows! I got the afghan s loom! And I'm finding it very confusing! I just turned 60 and I work the 6p-6a shift! So please help me!
Help, help, help. I have the S loom. I'm more of a visual learner. But need help. All the videos I've seen start at the beginning but then jumps to the middle. How do I get my blanket to start to come off in the middle. I ha gone around like three times.
i just got this loom and would like to know how big a yarn can be used on this loom, do you by chance know,,,and i love it,,,i tried the bernat blanket yarn but it was to hard to use on it,,,,do you have any ideas for me.. would love to make afgans for family for christmas,, i also saw your review on the cindwood univeral looms,,do you know what size yarn can be used on the cind wood looms,,as i love the size 6 yarns, ie: bernat blanket,,less chance of loosing a strand of yarn,,,,and there is a tad more give in the product,,,and it is also machine washable. any recommendations on the yarn or the loom? thanks
Ok thanks so much! I am using bernat baby blanket yarn so I didn't want to make a blanket the ends being totally different. I will do that! I would hate to make the whole blanket and than be not happy with the bindoff.
The blanket in the background there- is it one yarn or all different ones? I’m looking to do a blanket with three different colors for a gift. This video is great! I got one loom that I’m returning. It is unfortunately too awkward for me. I’m hoping this one will be easier to work with.
Kristen, I'm so happy I found your videos. I am interested in the S loom. Do you have any videos on how to start an afghan ? I'm new and need some help..Thanks!!
I have never used a loom before, please tell me if this one would be a good one to start with? If not please help me decide what to start with. Thank you for all your help. I can't spend a lot of money, so what I do spend I want to spend well.💖🙃
+Janis Casey hello. It really depends on what you want to make a lot of and size of yarn you want to work with. Mainly the yarn first to determine the spacing between the pegs and then if you need something to knit in the round (circular knitting can be a round loom, a continuous even square, oval or even a rectangular shape). But for flat panels (a single knit working back and forth to left and right) you can use most any loom. There is also double knit to make a double thick fabric. As you can see it can sound overwhelming but it boils down to what you desire to make the most and go from there. I usually recommend a single small round loom first to learn stitches and make something quick or a long loom. The most bang for you buck, so to speak, is a kit at Walmart. I wrote the book inside and it comes with a loom. The loom will let you do all of the above and the book will take you through patterns to do it. It's called I Taught Myself to Loom Knit. I hope that helps! (Btw all yarn selections are mentioned in the book and can be found at Walmart under the materials section for each pattern.) -Kristen
Thanks for the great review! I just got my loom and I want to do double knitting. Are all the pegs wrapped or do you need to skip some of them as with other looms?
Oh goodness I'm not sure. That depends several factors but I would make a swatch in the stitch you want. if you take to the post office you can weigh what you used (or the glance of what is left on the ball) to see how many grams you used (or ounces). Now you can use the size you knitted to determine the stitch and row count to figure out how much you will need. Its all a math question due to the stitch, your tension, the yarn gauge and the loom gauge.
I bought this loom after watching this video and I have a small problem. I dropped a stitch 12 rows back from where I am now (I can't believe I didn't notice it) and I am wondering if this can be fixed. I have captured the loop with a safety pin so it doesn't disappear. I an NOT an expert on this thing and feel like an idiot for missing the stitches.
+Rebecca Sherman oh my goodness!! So sorry that happened to you AND I'm just now seeing this. Did you ever figure it out or do you still need some help? you can drop that stitch at the top and use a crochet hook to make new stitches coming up. let me know if you need more help visually. -Kristen
For a 60 inch blanket using basic stitch #4 yarn - how many scans of yarn would I need. I have 1 pound red Caron #4 yarn. How much more would It need? The 1 pd yarn #4 yarn has approx 812 yds (1-oz - 453.6 g). 100 percent Acrylic.
To answer that you'll need to work up a swatch in your intended stitch pattern and yarn on your loom.Try a 6x6 swatch. if you have a gram scale you can weight the finished sample with the yarn and see what the total weight is and then take the sample off and note the different. Now you know how many grams are in your swatch to make that size. Calculate the square inches of the sample you made and the square inches of the size of blanket you desire. Take that difference and now you can calculate how much more yarn you'll need. Try this link to help th-cam.com/video/H8GCve7Vm8Q/w-d-xo.html
Sandra, You can use any flat panel knitting stitch as on other looms. there does not have to be a video showing it on every single loom to mean you can use it. Just explore and you'll see. :-) Double knitting on it is more limited. I did make a blog on that. the trick is you definitely need thicker yarn or more strands for that though. Please see other videos on single or flat panel knitting for looms...or really any stitch that isn't double knit. I hope that helps you Sandra. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
GoodKnitKisses for starters hun I don't subscribe and I only came across this video while trying to find alternative patterns for this loom. Which I am sad to say there isn't many out there. The reason I mentioned that It would be nice to have some tutorials out there is that there are people I know in other states that just got their loom and it is hard to give them advice or help teach them without something visual for them to better understand it. Thanks for trying to understand but it really dose not fit what I am trying to teach the people I know.
I just bought the S Loom and I was wondering if there is a chart stating how many pegs to use for preemies, newborns, tweens, and teen ? I know mainly for adults would be the whole loom.
Karen Battisti Do you mean for blanket sizes? Here is a chart link for sizes of blankets. After deciding what size you want you'll need to make a 5x5 or 6x6 swatch on the loom in the yarn you want. Try casting on 16 stitches on that loom and knit 25-30 rows in the MAIN STITCH or stitch pattern you will use on your blanket. Take that off the loom and measure. Measure how many stitches in an inch you get and then how many rows per inch you get. Now multiply that number times the number in the blanket chart you want. www.goodknitkisses.com/Resources/blanket-sizes-chart/
Dear Ms. Kisses, I absolutely love the black/grey/white afghan seen in this video! It has a look like a Mexican Serrape Blanket. I'd really love to make one for my Dad. Could you tell me the type of yarn you used to make it? I'd be much obliged. Keep up that good loom knitting. Thank you so much for your high quality, informative videos on my new hobby! Kindest regards
Try only doing 5 or 10 stitches at a time, wrap and yarn over, then proceed to the next area. This keeps it from getting tighter and tighter as you go around the loom.
can you please tell me the difference between the infinity loom by loops and threads and the serenity loom? where can I find projects with instructions for the infinity loom?
A classmate saw me crocheting during lecture (previously cleared by professor, in case you're wondering) and she mentioned these large s looms. After watching this, I want one!! 😍😍 Is there a tutorial on how to make a triangle shawl on a loom??
I saw a tip about this loom that was important. The stitches tend to get too tight and hard to loom over. So instead of doing the wrapping all the way around, as it gets tighter and tighter, try doing 5 or 10, then yarn over, then move on. This keeps it somewhat loose and easier to control the tension. What stitch and how many starting rows did you do for them not to curl?
Outer side normal needle work. Inner loom reverse the needle in upside down mode Like reverse e-wrap back and forth motion. Takes me roughly 15 minutes per 198 pegs with wrap knit and press down per run

I prefer to do a chain cast on. It makes a beautiful crochet looking edge. Going work some samples on the afghan loom and guage the stitches.
Rita Schiferl that is a great cast on. Go for it! ☺️ Lots of options for cast on.

@mcmamawjoy I'd contact them or KnittingBoard. Either one I'm sure would help. If its not what you ordered you are due the correct item.
How many pegs does the KB Afghan figure 8 loom have Vs the Loops and Threads Afghan figure 8 loom? Thank you.

What type of cast off do you use? Would a single crochet work?
how many sets of yarn will I need to make it for a king size bed
Oh goodness I'm not sure. That depends several factors but I would make a swatch in the stitch you want. if you take to the post office you can weigh what you used (or the glance of what is left on the ball) to see how many grams you used (or ounces). Now you can use the size you knitted to determine the stitch and row count to figure out how much you will need. Its all a math question due to the stitch, your tension, the yarn gauge and the loom gauge.
Can you this loom to do a king size? How would you connect the panels?
I just tried the link for the pink white and grey striped blanket but the link doesn't work. Do you have any other links for KB S patterns?
Hi there I just order my s loom and. A beginge r are they easy like. Round. Loom s. From jodie
Gibt es davon auch ein Taschenbuch wo die Muster drinnen sind
I'm very new to loom knitting. I'm mainly a crocheter. Can I crochet around a loom knit afghan to lessen curl? (as I would around Tunisian)
Lexi Crneckiy Yes! It brings the curling into place. Also u may want to block it.
Great review. I'm still planning on getting one so I appreciate the review greatly.
Me too
I bought this loom after watching this video and I have a small problem.
-Kristen
Can you use super bulky yarn on this loom?
How can I determine how much yarn I need? I am using 190 pegs and Barnat Blanket yarn.
Have u ever had your yarn break on u in the middle of a project on this loom and is there anyway to fix it
WOW THAT LOOKS REALLY FANCY
Here's a question: what is the difference between the infinity loom and the serenity loom
no conozco ese telar en 8 donde se puede coseguir? y cuantO puede costar?
I can't find the Viva loom site. When it search for vivaloom.com it bounces back as not valid.
I have the loom but it is sad not seeing many video tutorials on what stitches can be done on it yet.
Thanks for trying to understand but it really dose not fit what I am trying to teach the people I know.
can you use one number4 yarn on the s loom or you have to use 2
can you make a triangle shawl on the s loom?
The afghan on this video is no longer on the web site vivaloom.com. is there another place to get the pattern from??
It's still there. Here is the link to that afghan vivaloom.com/node/164
Great review!!!! Do you know if the gauge is good for WW yarn?
GoodKnitKisses Thank you so much. That really helps as I didn't how to do it.
I tried to bring up vivaloom.com it told me not able to be reached
how many peg you do for the blue scarf you did on kb loom
How has this held up? The pegs seemed really bendy and thin to me, like they would snap over time or with too much pressure?
Please show me how start that s loom, I waited to see how start?? I need that
I really would love the pattern to this scarf. Where can I find it? Thank you
I Love your necklace! Seriously!
Could you tell me how many grams of dk wool I will need to make a blanket on this for a 2 year old x
Soy de Costa Rica y deseo saber como puedo comprar ese tan bello telar.
Why are the stitches so tight on this loom? I did the e wrap to cast on and than just knitting not wrapping.
Be sure you're not pushing your stitches all the way to the bottom of the loom... that should help with the tightness.
Try only doing 5 or 10 stitches at a time, wrap and yarn over, then proceed to the next area. This keeps it from getting tighter and tighter as you go around the loom.
Kristen, may I ask please, are the pegs on this loom like those on the All-in-One or those on the Hat loom?
camcab147 I thought she said it was like the all in one loom.
can you please tell me the difference between the infinity loom by loops and threads and the serenity loom? where can I find projects with instructions for the infinity loom?
Angela Stringfellow I ?
yes?
A classmate saw me crocheting during lecture (previously cleared by professor, in case you're wondering) and she mentioned these large s looms. After watching this, I want one!! 😍😍
Is there a tutorial on how to make a triangle shawl on a loom??
